Turveye. A moiety of a messuage and lands (extent given) held of the king in chief by service of rendering 2 3/4d. yearly to the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff.
She (died) on 4 June, 14 Edward III. John le Hilier, her son, aged 36 years and more, is her next heir.

Writ, to the escheator in cos. Somerset &c. 20 June, 14 Edward III.
SOMERSET. Inq. made at Somerton on Tuesday before SS. Peter and Paul, 14 Edward III.
He held no lands &c. in the said counties because, long before his death, he gave by charter to a certain Elizabeth Child, of Stanford, the manors of Stoke Tristre, Cokelyngton, and Boyforde, co. Somerset, to hold to her, her heirs and assigns, for ever; which Elizabeth he married after the enfeoffment, and he had nothing in the said manors but as husband of the said Elizabeth, who still survives. The manors are held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee. And long before his death, he gave to Ralph de Middelnye the manors of Puttenye and Knolle, co. Somerset, to hold to him, his heirs and assigns, of the chief lords of those fees by the accustomed services for ever; whereof the manor of Putteney is held of the king in chief by service of rendering to him 20s. yearly at his exchequer by the hands of the sheriff; and the manor of Knolle is held of the abbot of Muchelnye by homage and fealty only.
Sibyl his daughter, aged 22 years and more, is his next heir.
Writ to the escheator in Southampton, Wilts &c. 21 June, 14 Edward III.
Endorsed by the escheator that the said John de Lorty had no lands &c. in his bailiwick outside the county of Wilts.
WILTS. Inq. taken at Devyses. 11 July, 14 Edward III.
He held no lands &c. in the county, because, long before he died, he enfeoffed Ralph de Middehiye, knight, of the manors of Fennysutton and Asshele, to hold to him and his heirs for ever; whereof the manor of Fennysutton is held of John de Haudlo, knight, by service of half a knight’s fee; and the manor of Asshele is held of the earl of Her(e)ford by service of half a knight’s fee.

Writ of plenius certiorari to John Inge and others, the king having been given to understand that the said John de Lorty died seised of the abovesaid manors of Puttenye and Knolle, and that they are held of the king in chief, whereby all the profits since the death of the said John pertain to the king, 8 August, 14 Edward III.

CORNWALL. Inq. taken at Lesnywith, 18 July, 14 Edward III.
Teydy. The manor and all the lands &c. which he had in Trevalga and Femarchal, were held by the said William of Phihp de Engelfelde by service of a pair of white gloves or 1d. at Easter, and for half a knight’s fee. The said Philip holds of the king in chief and was a minor and in the king’s wardship, and by reason of the minority of the said William all his lands &c. were taken into the king’s hand, as wardship within wardship, and not otherwise.

CUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Carlisle on Friday after the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 14 Edward III.
Ulvesby. Two tofts, 12a. land, 1r. meadow, an eighth part of a burnt water-mill, and 2s. rent, held of the king in chief by homage, and rendering yearly for cornage to the king’s exchequer of Carlisle 2s. 11d., and rendering also there 23d. yearly as ‘blauncheferme.’
She held nothing of others.
She died on 14 July, 2 Edward III. John, son of Adam de Carleton and of the same Sibyl, aged 28 years and more, is her next heir.

Sudley. The manor (extent given) held jointly with Eleanor de Scales his wife, who still survives, of the gift of Ralph de Dersett by fine levied in the court of King Edward II, to hold to, the said John and Eleanor and the heirs of their bodies of the king and his heirs by the services accustomed; and it is held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee.
John, son of the said John and Eleanor, aged 1 year, is his next heir.
WARWICK. Inq. taken at Warwick, 3 March, 14 Edward III.
Greve. The manor (extent given) held jointly with the said Eleanor his wife, of the gift of John de Sudley, his grandfather, by fine levied in the court of King Edward II, to hold as abovesaid; and it is held of the king in chief by service of half a knight’s fee.

Merk in Great Dunmowe. The manor (extent given) held, by the grant of John Gamelyn to the said Robert and Jacomina, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, by fine levied in the court of King Edward I, of the king, as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of a knight’s fee.
Ingelram their first-born son crossed into parts beyond the seas long before the death of the said Jacomina, but whether he is surviving or not is unknown. Robert, brother of the said Ingelram, aged 26 years and more, is their next heir apparent.

Combes. Two parts of a moiety of the manor held of the king in chief by service of 7l. 18s. 10 1/2d. yearly farm and 15s. yearly scutage; and the king granted the said yearly farm and scutage to Robert de Ufford, earl of Suffolk, to be taken yearly from the said two parts of the manor.
Horham. Two parts of the manor held, jointly with Joan his wife, who still survives, of the gift of Robert Broum, parson of the church of Chepeden, Roger de Hemstede, parson of the church of Secheford (sic), and Robert Sparhauk, parson of the church of St. Michael Conesford, in Norwich, to hold to the said John and Joan and the heirs of the same John, viz.—three parts of the said two parts of the [said] manor, of the earl of Suffolk, as of the honour of Eye, by service of five marks yearly, and the residue of the said two parts, of the bishop of Norwich and of divers other lords by divers services.

The manors held jointly with Joan his wife, who still survives, of the gift of Robert Broun, parson of the church of Schippedene, Robert Sparhauk, parson of the church of St. Michael Conesford in Norwich, and Roger de Hempstede, parson of the church of Schotford, to hold to them and the heirs of the said John; whereof the manor of Aschewelle Thorp is held of Robert de Benhale and Eva his wife by knight’s service, the manor of Fundenale is held of the heirs of Thomas, late earl of Norfolk, by knight’s service, and the manor of Wrenyngham is held of John Bardolf by knight’s service.

Congham [or Cotingham] (sic). A messuage, 40a. land, 6a. meadow and 4s. rent from free tenants; whereof 20a. land is held of the prior of Castelacre, in free socage, by service of 1d. yearly, and the residue of Richard de Belhous by homage and by service of 3d. yearly.
Asshewellethorp, Fundenhale, Bunewelle, Wreningham, Tyveteshal, Habeton and Nelonde. 6l. 22 1/2d. yearly rent from free tenants, together with a rent of 10qr. 4 1/2bus. barley and 4bus. oats yearly, and a rent of 22 capons yearly, held of the heirs of Thomas, late earl of Norfolk, and the heirs of Sir John de Clavering and of John Bardolf by knight’s service, quantity at present unknown. And the said John held the manors of Asshewellethorp, Fundenhale and Wreningham, jointly with Joan his wife, who still survives, to them and the heirs of the same John, except only the above rents in the same manors and in the townships of Bunewelle, Tyveteshale, Habeton and Nelonde, of divers other lords, by divers services.

Combes. Two parts of a moiety of the manor (full extent given) held of the king in chief by service of 7l. 8s. 10 3/4d. from a certain fee farm, and 15s. from a certain yearly scutage, which rent of farm and scutage the king gave for himself and his heirs to Robert de Ufford, earl of Suffolk, to hold to him and the heirs male of his body, to be taken every year from the said two parts.
Horham, Hoxne, Wotton, Welebeye and Fresingfeld. 4l. 3s. yearly rent from certain free tenants, held of the earl of Suffolk by knight’s service.
Horham. Two parts of the manor held, jointly with Joan his wife, who still survives, to them and the heirs of the said John, of the earl of Suffolk, as of the honour of Eye, by service of five marks yearly, except only the aforesaid 4l. 3s. rent in Horham and elsewhere, which are parcel of the same manor.

Raghton. A messuage and 3a. land held of the king in chief by serjeanty, rendering to him, at his exchequer of Carlisle, 3s. yearly, and by service of a third part of the custody of a royal goshawk, at his own costs; a messuage held of Ivo Bertyn by service of 1d. yearly; 4a. land held of Sir Ralph de Dacre by service of 7 1/2d. yearly; 2a. land held of the abbot of Holme by service of 8d. yearly; 6a. land held of John son of Henry son of Ivo de Raghton, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by fealty and by service of 2s. 5d. yearly; and a plot of land called Milneflat held of Henry de Harcla by service of 12d. yearly.

STAFFORD. Inq. made at Pencrich, 8 March, 14 Edward III.
Cannok, Frodeleye and Hopewas. The stewardship and bailiwick of keeping the king’s forest of Cannok, a half virgate of land in Frodeleye, and an assart and a meadow in Hopewas, held of the king in chief, by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance of Anne, daughter of Philip de Monte Gomeri, sometime the wife of the said John, by reason of offspring begotten between them, without rendering anything to the king, but they are held by grand serjeanty, viz. keeping the said forest.
John, son of the said John and Anne, is the said Anne’s next heir of the said stewardship and land &c.
Hulton. Two messuages, 10a. land, and 1/2a. meadow, held of the dean and chapter of Wlvernehampton by service of 3s. 4d. yearly; and 10s. yearly rent held of the said dean and chapter, service unspecified.
Esyngton. Two virgates and a half of land held of Robert de Esyngton by service of 2s. yearly.
Pylatenhale. A quarter of a virgate of land held of William de Pylatenhale by service of 6d. yearly.
John, son of the said John and Anne, aged 30 years and more at the feast of All Saints last, is the said John’s next heir of the tenements in Hulton, Esyngton and Pylatenhale.
DERBY. Inq. 10 March, 14 Edward III.
Repingdon, Melton and Tykenhale. 4l. 14s. rent from free tenants held, by the courtesy of England, after the death of Anne his wife, daughter of Philip de Monte Gomeri, of the inheritance of the same Anne, of the king in chief, by service of a twentieth part of a moiety of a knight’s fee.

Frome Voechurch. A capital messuage, lands and rent (extent given), held, jointly with Juliana his wife, for life of Robert Cyfrewast, which said Robert held the said lands &c. in fee, by a mesne, of Edmund, son and heir of Roger de Mortuo Mari [who held of the king in chief, a minor and in the king’s wardship,] by knight’s service.
Berewyk, Modbergh and Sewere. A capital messuage, lands, rent &c. held jointly with Juliana his wife and the heirs of their bodies, as appears by a fine levied in the king’s court, of Sir William de Monte Acuto, earl of Salisbury, by knight’s service.
