	Writ to the escheator in co. Kent &c. 8 January, 20 Edward II.
KENT.	Inq. 25 January, 20 Edward II.
	Egarton. The manor (extent given), held for life by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance of Isabel his wife, of the prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, in gavelkind, by service of 30s. 1 1/4d. yearly, 2s. 9d. yearly rent called ‘Molselver,’ 2 hens at Christmas, and 10 eggs at Easter; rendering also to Hamo atte Halle 6 1/2d. at Mid-Lent. David aged 20 on the feast of St. Hilary last, William aged 11, and Aymer aged 9 and more, sons of the said earl and Isabel are their next heirs of the said manor.
KENT.	Inq. 24 January, 20 Edward II.
	Chileham. The castle and manor (extent given), with their members, viz.—Kyngeston, Ridelingewelde, Whitstaple, and Erhethe, held of the king in chief, as of the crown, by service of 2 knights’ fees, and a pair of gilt spurs; rendering also for the said manor for the guard of the castle of Dover 12d. weekly, and 13s. 4d. yearly to the chapel of the Blessed Mary in the castle of Chileham. David his son, aged as above, is his next heir.

	Erhuthe. The manor (extent given), including a place called ‘la Wynyerd,’ rents called ‘Burgage,’ and a ferry across the Thames, held of the king in chief as parcel of the barony of Chileham, which barony is held of the king by service of 2 knights’ fees, and a pair of gilt spurs. Heir as above, aged 18 years.
KENT.	Inq. made at Canterbury, 26 January, 20 Edward II.
	Ridelingewelde. The manor (extent given). Charleton. 68s. 4d. yearly rent of assize and 21 hens at Christmas. Dovorr. A watermill. Whitstaple. The manor (extent given). Kyngeston. The manor (extent given), including land upon ‘la Ride’ and a pasture upon Berhamdoune. Hothfeld. The manor (extent given), including pasture in a wood called ‘le Park’ and a plot of pasture called ‘le Conynger.’ All held of the king in chief as parcel of the barony of Chileham, which is held of the king as of the crown by service of 2 knights’ fees and a pair of gilt spurs; rendering 1d. for the said manor of Ridelingewelde for the Roman court, and 2d. for Easter candles in the same town; and 13s. yearly for the guard of the castle of Dover for the said manor of Kyngeston, viz.—3d. each week. Heir as above, aged 20 at the feast of St. Hilary last.

LINCOLN.	Inq. 10 February, 1 Edward III.
	Gaynesburgh. The manor (extent given), including plots of land and meadow called Castelsted, Wilmacre, Humbelker, Mere, Hestcroft, Spiteleng, Northmersh, Thorpesbek, Coupasture, and Prestker, a market and fair, and a ferry across the Trent, held as of the right of Joan his wife, of the king in chief, by service of a knight’s fee. Adam le Messager has there the keepership of a wood for life, of the enfeoffment of Sir Aymer de Valencia, late lord of the manor, taking 1 1/2d. per day for the same. Heir as above, aged about 19 years.

YORK.	Inq. taken at Ruddestan on Monday before Palm Sunday, 1 Edward III.
	Beverlay, Scourburgh, Besewyk, Fosceton, Nafferton, Louthorp, Fyvele, Twenge, and Sixendale. 20l. yearly rent issuing from lands and tenements sometime of Denise de Monte Caniso in the above places, and also from the manors of Killum and Brunby, which are bound for the said rent, held for life, by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance of Joan late his wife. The tenements in Beverlay are held of the archbishop of York, service unknown; the tenements in Scourburgh, Fosceton, Nafferton, Louthorp, Alburn, Fyvele and Twenge, are held of Henry de Percy by knight’s service; and the tenements in Besewik, Sixendale, Killum and Brunby, are held of the socage of Killum, Driffeld and Pokelyngton. David son of the said David and Joan, aged 18 on the feast of the Purification last, is their next heir.
NORTHUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at Newcastle upon Tyne on Tuesday after Palm Sunday, 1 Edward III.
	Mitford. The manor (extent given), including the site of a castle wholly burned. Molston. Certain tenements pertaining to the aforesaid manor, rents from tenants &c. Pont Eland. Two parts of the manor (extent given), devastated by the Scots. Little Eland. Certain tenements pertaining to the aforesaid manor, viz.—‘6 bonde,’ each containing a toft and 22a. land, 4 cottages, and 6s. 8d. rent of freemen, similarly devastated. Calverdon. Certain tenements pertaining to the aforesaid manor, viz.—8 bondages, each containing a toft and 30a. land, and 18 1/2d. rent of freemen, similarly devastated. Merdesfen. Certain tenements pertaining to the aforesaid manor of Pont Eland, viz.—21 bondages, each containing a toft and 30a. land, 12d. rent of free tenants, and two parts of a turbary, similarly devastated. All held for life, by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance of Joan, sometime his wife, of the king in chief, by service of a baron, and rendering 31s. 4d. yearly for cornage to the king’s castle of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Heir as last above.

NORFOLK.	Inq. 2 March, 1 Edward III.
	Posswyk. The manor (extent given), held by the courtesy of England after the death of Joan his wife, by reason of offspring had between them, of the king in chief by knight’s service. He died on 28 December last. David, eldest son of the said earl and of Joan his wife, aged 18, is next heir of the said Joan.
NORFOLK.	Inq. 26 March, 1 Edward III.
	Castelacre. The castle (extent given), including pasture called Hallemor, pasture at Brademeduwe and Manywell, a pasture called ‘le Lingkes,’ a turbary at Marham, a rent called ‘burcage,’ and a manor called ‘le Wykin’ pertaining to the castle, held by the courtesy of England as abovesaid, of the king in chief by knight’s service. Westlexham. The manor (extent given), held as abovesaid of the king in chief, by service of a golden halfpenny, to be paid each seventh year for all services. Date of death as above. David, eldest son of the said earl and of Joan his wife, is the said Joan’s next heir.
NORFOLK.	Inq. 28 March, 1 Edward III.
	Holkham. The manor (extent given), held by the courtesy of England, as abovesaid, of the heir of Robert de Tatishale as of the castle of Bukenham, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. Styvekeye. The manor (extent given), held by the courtesy of England as abovesaid, of the king in chief, by service of 1/4 knight’s fee. Date of death as above. Heir as last above, aged 18 years.
SUFFOLK.	Inq. taken at Halsted, 7 March, 1 Edward III.
	Kentewelle. The manor (extent given), including a rent of 18s. 3d. yearly from divers tenants called ‘Castelward,’ held by the courtesy of England as abovesaid, of the king in chief as of the castle of Norwich, rendering 66s. yearly for the guard of the said castle. The abbot of St. Edmund’s received 18d. yearly from the manor for sheriff’s aid. Westlee. The manor (extent given), including a pasture &c. at Teywyne, held by the courtesy of England as abovesaid, of the honour of Clare by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee, and by suit at the court of Clare every three weeks. The abbot of St. Edmund’s receives yearly 6d. from the manor for sheriff’s aid; and the heirs of Adam de Geddyngg of Saxham receive 2s. yearly from a parcel of the manor. David, eldest son of the said earl and of Joan his wife, is the said Joan’s heir.
BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. 2 April, 1 Edward III.
	Bichindon. The manor (extent given), held by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance of Joan sometime his wife, of the king in chief, as of the honour of Walingford, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and suit at the court of Walynford every three weeks. Cherdeslee. 6 marks yearly from the manor by the hands of Peter Carbonel, who holds the said manor for his own life, that of Isabell his wife, and that of John their elder son, with reversion to the said David’s heirs. Heir as above, aged 18 years.
HERTFORD.	Inq. taken at Hertford, 29 May, 1 Edward III.
	Beyford. 40a. land, held of the inheritance of his wife, by the courtesy of England, of King Edward II, by service of 6s. yearly. Hatfeld. 60a. arable, a wood, and 11s. yearly rent of assize, similarly held of the bishop of Ely by service of 9s. 2d. yearly, and suit at the court of Hatfeld every three weeks; a tenement called Little Holwell, viz.—25a. arable, 4a. meadow, 2a. pasture, 3a. wood, and 3s. yearly rent of assise, similarly held of Sir Hugh le Fiz Simond as of his manor of Simondeshyde, by service of 15s. yearly; 20a. land, similarly held of Robert son of William de Pomelesburn, by service of 3s. 4d. yearly, and 2a. pasture; and 15a. land and 2 1/2a. pasture, similarly held of Robert de Holbek, by service of 2s. 8d. yearly. NORTHUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at Corbrigg on Monday after the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 2 Edward III.
	Southtyndal. The manor of Hethynsalgh with the forest of Lowes, and divers shielings in Huntland and elsewhere in Northtyndal, held of King Edward II, as of the manor of Werk in Tyndal then in the said king’s hand, by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, (extent given) including plots of meadow called ‘le Sheftsyde,’ ‘le Wyndsheles,’ Cokedenfeld, and Lyandstanemedwe, pastures called ‘le Coulisour,’ and ‘le Hawhop,’ toll of the market, a park, shielings called Hayleyes, ‘le Haredore,’ ‘le Weles,’ Carsywod, ‘le Lythbirkes’ [alias ‘le Litghbirkes’], Hyndely, Gilbrydbonk, and North Grenley, and shielings in Thorngrafton [alias Thorgrafton], and in ‘le Huntland,’ viz.—‘le Westgrenheved’ and ‘le Estgrenheved.’ Heir as above, aged 20 at the feast of St. Hilary (?) last.
	Extent or summary of lands &c. which David de Strabolgi, earl of Athol, son and heir of David de Strabolgi, late earl of Athol, who held of King Edward II, in chief, claims as his right and inheritance, viz.—the abovesaid lands in Tyndale, co. 760.	MAUD, LATE THE WIFE OF ROGER DE CHEDLEE.
	Writ of certiorari to the bailiffs of Maclesfeld, on the complaint of William de Baggeleye [alias de Bagylegh] and Clemence his wife, and Richard de Bulkele [alias de Bulkylegh] and Agnes his wife, that the said bailiffs had removed them from the manor of Chedle, which they had entered after the death of the said Maud, who held the same for life of the inheritance of the said Clemence and Agnes, 18 July, 20 Edward II.
[CHESTER.]	Inq. Wednesday after St. Laurence, 20 Edward II.
	Chedlee. The manor was held by the said Maud for life and not otherwise. It is held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee, and is of the inheritance of the said Clemence and Agnes, who are of full age. The bailiff seized the manor into the king’s hand after the death of the said Maud, because of the death of the said Roger who held it of the king, and by whose assignment the said Maud held it.

761.	JOHN, SON OF REGINALD DE SANCTO MARTINO.
	Writ of plenius certiorari, whereas John Aucher by fine levied in the king’s court, in 34 Edward I, granted to Reginald de Sancto Martino and Eleanor his wife, the manor of Alvyngton, to hold to them for life, with successive remainders to John son of the said Reginald and the heirs of his body, and to the right heirs of the said Reginald, and the said Reginald and Eleanor are dead, and now the king understands that the said John also has died without heir of his body, whereby the said manor ought to remain to Laurence son of Laurence de Sancto Martino, kinsman and right heir of the said Reginald, a minor and in the king’s wardship, 3 September, 20 Edward II.
SOUTHAMPTON [; ISLE OF WIGHT].	Inq. made at Southampton, 16 September, 20 Edward II.
	Alvyngtone. The manor, was held by the said John after the death of the said Reginald and Eleanor his wife, by virtue of a fine levied in the king’s court in 34 Edward I, and he died without heir of his body, on Monday before Christmas day, 18 Edward II. Thomas West now holds the manor by the demise of the said John by a feigned charter, with condition to reenfeoff the said John if he had lived. The manor is held of the king in chief as of the honour of the castle of Caresbrouke by service of 1/2 knight’s fee and suit at the court of knights of Newport every three weeks. The said Laurence, aged 7 at the feast of All Saints last, is kinsman and right heir of the said Reginald.

	…… acquired a manor in Bich[amwell?] by charter whose date is in the 24th year of King Edward, father of the present King Edward …. and that feoffment was made in the same year the said Robert was born. John son of Stephen of Bychamwelle, says that the said Robert was 21 years of age on Wednesday after St. Michael last, and this he knows because he married one Joan Chervill about the feast of St. Martin next after the said Wednesday, in the church of Bitchamwell where the said Robert was baptized, 21 years ago. Roger de Westfeld, says the like, and knows it because he has a niece Joan, who was born in the same week, and baptized in the same church, and is now 21 and more. Stephen Elfo, says the like, and knows it because on that day he stayed in Marham with the abbess of Marham, where Ingram father of the said Robert had a manor, and heard tell that the said Robert was born, now 21 years ago and more. Richard son of Ralph de Bytchamwell, says the like, and knows it because there was a plea between William Belet, grandfather of the said Robert, and the men of the township of Bitchamwelle, concerning willows on the common of the same town about the feast of St. Michael in that same year. William de Marham, says the like, and knows it because on the day the said Robert was born he was staying at Bitchamwelle with the aforesaid William Belet; and he went to parts across the sea and stayed at Peyto for three years and more, and then returned to England and acquired lands &c., in Marham, and knows the truth by the date of his charters. William at the Cross (ad crucem), says the like, and knows it because John, his father, died the same year, and lands &c. in Marham descended to him, for which he did fealty to one Reyner de Shouldham. Alan de Swafham of Marham, says the like, and knows it because he bought lands in Marham the same year, and knows the truth by the date of his charters. John de Angulo, says the like, and knows it because he married Mabel (Amabillam), daughter of Alan le Pestour of Marham about the feast of All Saints next after the Wednesday abovesaid. Walter de Cogesshal, says the like, and knows it because at that time he was staying at Shellonde in Suffolk with Robert Bardolf, father of Avice mother of the said Robert Belet, and on the second day after the said Robert was born came a messenger and told the said Robert Bardolf in his presence that his daughter had been delivered of a son, Robert. William de Watergate, says the like, and knows it because 20 years ago he married Alice, daughter of William Levedey of Bitchamwell, and the said Robert was then one year old and more.

763.	MASTER JORDAN MORAUNT, deceased.
	Writ of certiorari super modo et causa captionis to Master John Walewayn, escheator, concerning a messuage and four shops in London, which were of the said Jordan, 6 May, [16] Edward [II].
LONDON.	Return [from the escheator]. (Undated.) Master John Moraunt was seised in his demesne as of fee on the day he died of the messuage and shops contained in the writ, and because he understood that the said Jordan held some lands &c. of the king in chief, whereby the wardship &c. ought to pertain to the king, he took the same into the king’s hand, but by inquisitions afterwards made he found that the said Jordan held the same of the king, as a bur[gess] … . . of London, without doing any service, and held no other lands &c. of the king, or of any inheritance in the king’s hand.

	Stanfordham. William de Sowles in time of peace [enfeoffed Thomas] his brother and Alice his wife, of a third part of the manor of ‘le Houch’ in Stanfordham [and they] continued their seisin until the said Thomas adhered to the Scots … . of the said king, on account of the enmity of the said Thomas; and the said third part is held of the fee of Bywell by service of 1/3 knight’s fee … . but now altogether devastated.

	Sturdon [by?] Bristoll. The hamlet (extent given) held by sokemanry, rendering 15s. yearly at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff. She held no other lands &c. She died on 26 March in the year abovesaid. Joan the wife of Richard de la Ryvere, aged 24 at the feast of the Blessed Mary last, is her next heir.
