SUSSEX. Extent made at Arundell on Monday after the Circumcision, 20 Edward II.
Limemenstre. The manor (extent given).

Bourne with Stanstede. The manor, pertaining to the honour of the castle of Arundel (extent given), with the pleas and perquisites of the hundred of Oulethourne.

Sangelton. The manor, pertaining to the honour of the castle of Arundel (extent given), including the advowsons of the churches of Sangelton and Estden, parks called Estden Park, Brunnescoumbe, Dounle and Selers, and foreign woods called Westholt, Alfredesholt Wangrave and Selers.
SOUTHAMPTON. Extent, Tuesday the feast of St. Hilary, 20 Edward II. (defaced.)
Bedhampton. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of the abbot of Hyde, Winchester, by service of a knight’s fee, and of Sir John de Sancto Johanne by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.
WILTS. Extent. Wednesday the morrow of the Epiphany, 20 Edward II.
Cuvele. The manor (full extent given with names of free tenants), including pastures called Oxenlese and Cowenlese, and a wood called ‘le Park’ and the following fees &c.—
GLOUCESTER and WILTS. Thormerton. The manor, co. Gloucester, and other tenements in Hechelhampton, Calston and Paulesholt, co. Wilts, held by John de Wylynton of the lord of the above manor by service of 3 knight’s fees.
WILTS. Paulesholt. The manor held by Nicholas Bourdon by service of a knight’s fee, and suit of court.
GLOUCESTER. Badmynton. Certain tenements held by William le Butiler of Wemme by service of a knight’s fee.
WILTS. Yatton. Certain tenements held by William Kaynel by service of a knight’s fee, and suit of court.
Blountesdon. Certain tenements held by Adam Walraund by service of 1/2 knight’s fee; and a carucate of land held by William Musard by service of 1/4 and 1/8 knight’s fee.
The manor is held of the king in chief by service of 1 1/2 knight’s fee; and 20s. are payable thereout to the constable of the castle of Devyses in aid of the guard of the same, and 20s. 8d. to the sheriff of Wilts for assarts.

HERTFORD. Inq. taken at Royston, 27 September, 20 Edward II.
Coddreth. 60a. arable which are held in villenage, held of the king in chief by service of 1/7 knight’s fee; a chamber held of Lawrence de Bruar by service of 12d. yearly; and 60a. arable held of Martin Chamberleng by service of 19d. yearly.
William his son, aged 20 and more, is his next heir.
CAMBRIDGE. Inq. taken at Cambridge on Saturday before the feast of St. Michael, 20 Edward II.
Long Stanton. A chamber, an oxhouse, 140a. arable, 1a. meadow, 1/2a. pasture, and 36s. rent and 36s. works of bondmen, held of the heirs of Philip de Colevill by foreign service, and 16d. rent yearly to the abbot of Croylaund.

DEVON. Inq. taken at Honyton, 9 August, 20 Edward II.
Upoteri. A capital messuage called ‘le Fairele’ with garden &c., 20a. arable, 40a. of hill land, 3a. meadow, and 3a. of high wood, held jointly with Eleanor his wife to them and their heirs, of Henry de la Pomeraye as of his manor of Biry in free socage without any service.
Rouerigg. The manor (extent given), held jointly as above, to them and the heirs of the said Nicholas, of the dean and chapter of Rouen in free socage, rendering 1lb. wax yearly.
Southedon. 28s. yearly rent similarly held of William de Alba Marla as of the manor of Limeneston in free socage without any service.
Heir as above, aged 19 at the feast of St. M[ichael] last.
SOMERSET. Inq. 8 August, 20 Edward II.
Poyntington. The manor (extent given), held of John de Mohoun by service of a knight’s fee.

754. ROBERT SON AND HEIR OF EDMUND DE COLEVILL.
Writ to the escheator in co. Norfolk &c. to take the proof of age of the said Robert, 17 September, 20 Edward II.
[NORFOLK.] Proof of age taken at Baudeseye . . September, 20 Edward II.
Robert le Gardener, aged 50, says that the said heir is 21 and more, for he was born at Baudeseye on Tuesday after St. Luke, 32 Edward I, and baptized in the church there; and this he knows because he came to the church to hear mass, and then saw them baptize the boy.
John Efoghel, aged 52, says the like, and knows it because he has a son William who is of the same age.
Alexander de Oxeney, aged 48, says the like, and knows it because he gave the said heir lying in his cradle a buckle of gold.
John Grym, aged 42, agrees, and knows it because he had a son Richard who died on the second day after the birth of the said heir.
Ranulph Skot, aged 52, agrees, and knows it because he was sitting in a certain tavern with other companions when the birth of the heir was made known.
William de Peyton, aged 51, agrees, and knows it because he was then of the household (familiaris) of the said Edmund.
William Nichole, aged 41, agrees, and knows it because he was in a garden and heard the cries of the said heir’s mother labouring in childbirth.
Robert Talevance, aged 43, agrees, and knows it because he has a daughter Isabel who was baptized on the second day after the said heir.
William Haskes, aged 58, and others, agree, and know it because they were present at the banquet when the said heir’s mother rose from childbed.
Robert de Kendale, who had the wardship by the king’s commission, though warned, came not nor sent anyone for him.

755. JOHN DE SHODWELLE, KINSMAN AND ONE OF THE HEIRS OF PHILIP LE BRADE alias LE BRODE.
Writ to the escheator of co. Sussex &c. to take the proof of age of the said John, 18 July, 20 Edward II.
SUSSEX. Proof of age made at Bokstede on Tuesday after the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 20 Edward II.
John de Hemstede, aged 45, says that the said John was 22 on the day of St. Bartholomew last, and knows it because he is his godfather, and married his wife Joan in the same year.
Alexander de Hemstede, aged 47, says the like, and knows it because in the same year he plighted troth with (fide jussit?) Juliana his wife.
Walter de Grenhurst, aged 70, says the like, and knows it because on St. Stephen’s day in the same year he led Maud his wife from Granetye where he married her, to Bukstede.
Thomas atte Mille, the elder, aged 70, says the like, and knows it because Simon his son was born the same year in the week of Palm Sunday.
Thomas atte Mille, the younger, aged 55, says the like, and knows it because in the same year William du Park of Bukstede impleaded him in the court Christian to marry his daughter.
William le Fletcher, aged 50, says the like, and knows it because in the same year he was in the service of William the said John’s father, and sought John de Hemstede to be godfather.
William atte Frith, aged 50, says the like, and knows it because Margery his daughter was born on Whitsunday in the same year.
Aylnoth de Bukstede, aged 40, says the like, and knows it because on the feast of St. Martin in the same year, he married Joan his wife.
Reginald Goselyn, aged 60, says the like, assigning the same reason as William at Frithe.
Peter le Tannere, aged 60, says the like, assigning the same reason as the aforesaid Reginald.
John atte Brugge, aged 60, says the like, and knows it because in the same year he had a daughter dead named Joan.
William Joce, aged 46, says the like, and knows it because in the same year …. and was there for three years.

756. GEOFFREY SON OF WILLIAM LE BAT.
SUSSEX. Proof of age taken at Estbourne on Tuesday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 28 Edward II. (defective.)
[Walter de] Estbourne, aged 63, says that the said Geoffrey was born in [Estbo]urne on Tuesday the eve of St. Michael [32] Edward I, and on the following day was baptized in the church there, [and this he knows] because Emma his wife lifted the said Geoffrey from the sacred font, and he was at (the house?) of William the father when Julia the said Geoffrey’s mother was purified.
…… of Estbourne, aged 42, says the like, and knows it because … . saw and heard when Geoffrey de la Forde, godfather ……… .
…… aged 52, says the like, (and knows it because) he married Christiana his wife on Thursday the morrow of the day when the said Geoffrey was baptized.
…… of the same town, aged 64, says the like, (and knows it) because he had a daughter Agnes born on the same day.
[Thomas] … . ng of the same town, aged 42, says the like, [and knows it because] his … . carried the said Geoffrey to the church when he was baptized, and he himself went … .
[John Potel] of the same town, aged 50, says the like, and knows it because he was (servant?) with John de Radmelde, of whom William the father held 1a. land by service of 6d., which rent he sought at the house of the said William, and saw the said Geoffrey lying … . .
…… Symond of the same town, aged 42, says the like, and knows it because Emma the wife of Walter le … . godmother of the said Geoffrey is his grandmother, and he himself went to the church when he was baptized.
…… atte Cumbe of the same, aged 40, says the like, and knows it because he has a son William of the same age, who was baptized in the same church the following Saturday.
Robert Jop of Wilindon, aged 50, says the like, and knows it because on the said Wednesday he was at the fair at Burne, and when he came to the church to hear his mass he saw the said Geoffrey baptized.
William atte Toune of Wilindon, aged 44, says the like, and knows it because he came to the fair of Burne with Robert Jop his neighbour, and saw the said Geoffrey baptized.
John Evenyg of Estbourne, aged 55, says the like, and knows it because he has a son John of the same age, and Christiana his wife purified herself in the said church on the day the said Geoffrey was baptized.
Robert le Hosyere of Estbourne, aged 45, says the like and knows it because at that time he was at Beveringtone in the town of Estbourne with the said William le Bat, who ordered him to go and warn the chaplain of Estbourne church to be ready to baptize the said Geoffrey.

Porton. A messuage, 60a. arable, 1a. meadow, and 5s. rent, held of the king in chief, as by the forfeiture of Hugh le Despenser, the younger, by homage, fealty and service of 1/4 knight’s fee; and 50a. arable, 2a. meadow, and 26s. rent, held of Jordan Daunger in socage, by service of 33s. yearly.

Esthorp with Briche. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of 3 knights’ fees.
Lexedene. The hundred, held at fee farm of the king rendering 4 marks yearly.
Withermondeford. A messuage, 120a. arable, 8a. meadow, 12a. pasture, and 7s. 6d. rent of assize; whereof the messuage and part of the said tenements are held of Thomas de Ponygge by homage only, and the residue of Richard de Ruly, service unknown.
He died on 12 January, 20 Edward II. John his son, aged 30 and more, is his next heir.
