437.	RICHARD SON OF JOHN SYMOND.
	Writ of certiorari on the complaint of Margery late the wife of the said Richard that the escheator had taken into the king’s hand a messuage and land &c. in Lockesleye held in socage, which she had entered upon as next (friend) of the heir of the said Richard, 18 July, 16 Edward II.
STAFFORD.	Inq. Wednesday the morrow of St. Bartholomew, 16 Edward II.
	Lockesleye. A messuage and 30a. land, held in socage by service of 40d. yearly of the heir of Thomas de Ferariis, a minor and in the wardship of Thomas late earl of Lancaster; and Margery late the wife of the said Richard, as next in blood, held the same as wardship to the use of Richard his son at the time when they were taken into the king’s hands, which the escheator did because he was given to understand that the said Richard held them of the heir aforesaid, by knight’s service. He died in his bed at the feast of Whitsunday. Richard his son, aged 7 at the feast of Easter last, is his next heir.

438.	ANDREW DE KIRKEBY.
	Writ of plenius certiorari to Richard de Aldeburgh and Adam de Hopton, on the complaint of William, son and heir of the said Andrew, that certain lands in Tocwith, which Nicholas de Stapelton seized into his hand by reason of the minority of the said William, have been taken into the king’s hand by the forfeiture of the said Nicholas, 20 July 16 Edward II.
	Writ of venire facias to the sheriff of York to provide jurors, 20 July 16 Edward II.
YORK.	Inq. Tuesday the feast of St. Andrew, 16 Edward II.
	Tockewith. A messuage and a carucate of land, were held by the said Andrew of Nicholas de Stapelton, by service of 1/8 knight’s fee; which Nicholas after the said Andrew’s death, seized the same into his hand as wardship, and so held them until they were taken into the king’s hand because he was adhering to the king’s enemies. William his son, aged 21, is next heir of the said Andrew.
	Writ of plenius certiorari to John de Vallibus and Richard de Emeldon, on the petition of William, son and heir of the said Andrew, showing that certain lands which John de Eure had seized as wardship, by reason of his minority, had been taken into the king’s hand by the forfeiture of the said John, and that the said William is now of full age, 3 October, 16 Edward II.
[NORTHUMBERLAND.]	Inq. Friday after the Octave of St. Michael, 16 Edward II.
	The manors of Little Berwik and Pykeden were held in fee and the manor of Idinton in service, of John de Euir by service of a knight’s fee; which John on the death of the said Andrew, by reason of the minority of William his son and heir, seized into his hand as wardship the said manors of Little Berwik and Pikeden, and the service of a rose which John de Kirkebi ought to render yearly to the said William for the manor of Idinton, which he holds of him by the same service. William his son, who was of full age at the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula last, is his next heir.

439.	ROGER SON OF THOMAS GERVEYS of Podemore.
	Writ of certiorari to Robert Touk and Roger Carles, on the complaint of Sibyl, late the wife of the said Roger, that certain lands, whereof she was enfeoffed jointly with the said Roger on the day of his death, were taken into the king’s hand because he was said to have adhered to certain of the king’s enemies, 24 August, 16 Edward II.
SALOP AND STAFFORD.	Inq. Tuesday before St. Michael, 16 Edward II.
SALOP.	Cheseworthyn [alias Cheselworthyn] and Westanescote. The said Sibyl was enfeoffed jointly with her said husband of a messuage and a carucate of land there by the charter of Thomas son of William de Strongford in 13 Edward II, to hold to them and the heirs of the said Roger; and they are held of John le Straunge by service of 1d. and 2 capons yearly.
STAFFORD.	Assheleye. The said Thomas Gerveyse enfeoffed the said Roger and Sibyl by his charter in 9 Edward II, of a messuage and 10a. land there, together with the reversion of a moiety of a messuage which Richard le Coupere and Emmota his wife hold for life, to hold to them and the heirs of the said Roger; and they are held of Roger le Beysin by service of 12d. yearly. The said Sibyl peacefully continued her seisin of all the above until the death of the said Roger. This inquisition was made in the presence of the keeper of the lands &c. of contrariants of cos. Salop and Stafford.

440.	JOHN DE LA WODEHALLE.
	Writ of certiorari to John de Mauleverer and others, on the petition of John de la Wodehale, asserting that he is son and heir of the said John, who died in the king’s peace, and seeking his lands, which had been taken into the king’s hand because it was understood that the said John was adhering to Thomas, sometime earl of Lancaster, 30 December, 16 Edward II.
	Writ of venire facias to the sheriff of York to provide jurors, 30 December, 16 Edward II.
	Mandate from the said John de Mauleverer &c. to the same sheriff, Tuesday after the Epiphany, 16 Edward II.
YORK.	Inq. Sunday after St. Hilary, 16 Edward II.
	Wodehall. The manor held by John de la Wodehalle, to himself and the heirs of his body, of William son of William by fealty and service of 6d. yearly, and worth with Wamwelle and Derfeld 10 marks yearly. Wathe. A messuage, 40a. land, and 3a. meadow, held of Geoffrey Loterell by fealty and service of a rose yearly. He did not bear arms against the king nor was he adherent to the king’s enemies and rebels, and he died at Stubbum in the wapentake of Clarehowe on Thursday after St. Wilfrid, 16 Edward II, in the king’s faelty. John his son, aged 16, is his next heir.

441.	JOHN DE DERWENTWATRE alias DE DERWENUATER, the elder.
	Writ of certiorari on the complaint of John de Derwentwatre, the younger, that the manor of Boulton whereof the said John, the elder, long before his death had enfeoffed him to hold to himself and his heirs, had been taken into the king’s hand, 1 April, 16 Edward II.
WESTMORELAND.	Inq. 5 May, 16 Edward II.
	Bolton. On 11 September, 10 Edward II. the said John, the elder, by his charter enfeoffed John, the younger, of the manor to hold to him and his heirs, who peacefully continued seisin thereof until 1 May following, when the said John the elder died. The manor was held by knight’s service of Ralph de Graystok, then a minor and in the king’s wardship, and the escheator took it into the king’s hand as if the said John, the elder, was seised thereof in fee on the day he died, and still detains it.

442.	THOMAS LE FITZ BERNARD.
	Writ of certiorari to John de Bousser and others, on the complaint of Bona late the wife of the said Thomas, that he, whom while living she could not gainsay, had given the manor of Kyngesdon, which she held jointly with him, to Bartholomew de Badelesmere, by whose forfeiture it was taken into the king’s hand, and that the said Thomas has now died, 14 February, 16 Edward II.
KENT.	Inq. Wednesday after St. Gregory the Pope, 16 Edward II.
	Kyngesdoune. John de Northwode by fine levied in the king’s court in 6 Edward II, granted the manor to the said Thomas and Bona to hold to them and the heirs of the body of the said Thomas, with remainder to Bartholomew de Badelesmere and his heirs; and they were jointly in seisin thereof for two years, when the said Thomas, whom the said Bona could not gainsay, rendered the manor to the said Bartholomew; but the said Bona has never altered her estate in the manor, which is held of the king in chief as of the crown by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. The said Thomas died at york, 18 December, 16 Edward II.
	Similar writ concerning the manor and advowson of Tonge by Sidyngburn, 14 February, 16 Edward II. Endorsed …… It is agreed that the said manor and advowson be delivered to the said Bona to hold for life, with reversion to the king and his heirs.
KENT.	Inq. Wednesday after St. Gregory the Pope, 16 Edward II.
	Tonge by Sydyngbourne. Edmund le fitz Bernard granted the manor and advowson, by fine levied in the king’s court in 32 Edward I, to Ralph le fitz Bernard for life, with remainder to Thomas le fitz Bernard and Bona his wife and the heirs of the said Thomas. After two years the said Ralph died seised thereof, and the said Thomas and Bona entered and held the same jointly for five years, when the said Thomas, whom Bona in his lifetime could not gainsay, demised the same to Bartholomew de Badelesmere; but the estate of the said Bona therein was never changed. The said Thomas died at York 18 December, 16 Edward II. The manor and advowson, excepting 80a. arable, are held of John de Sancto Johanne in chief by service of 2 knights’ fees, doing suit of court at his manor of Eylnothyntone, and 20s. every 24 weeks for the guard of the castle of Dover; and the said 80a. land are held of the king of his manor of Middeltone according to the custom of gavelkind by service of 17s. yearly, and two attendances at the two leets of the same manor yearly. Before the levying of the aforesaid fine the aforesaid Edmund was parson of the church, and still is so.

443.	ROBERT DE HARDRES.
	Writ of plenius certiorari, to John de Ifeld and others, on the complaint of Margery, late the wife of the said Robert, that the keeper of the honour of Tonebrig had taken into the king’s hand the manor of Heghhardres, which she possessed jointly with the said Robert, 14 April, 16 Edward II.
KENT.	Inq. Saturday the feast of St. George, 16 Edward II.
	Heghhardres. The manor, held of the king as the honour of Tonebregge by service of a knight’s fee, was held jointly by the said Robert and Margery, by the grant of Thomas le Gegge by fine levied in the king’s court, 8 Edward II, excepting a third part of two parts of the manor, to hold to them and the heirs of the same Robert; and after the death, in 10 Edward II, of Maud late the wife of Richard de Sancto Johanne, who held the said third part in dower, they entered thereon, and were jointly in seisin of the whole manor for five years until the said Robert died; after which the said Margery was seised thereof for half a year and more, until ejected by Alexander de Mouubray keeper of the honour of Tonebregge. Robert his son, aged 12 and no more, is his next heir.

	Louth (Luda). Nine tofts and 87a. arable, held of the bishopric of Lincoln in chief, whose temporalities are now in the king’s hand, by service of 22s. yearly, making one attendance yearly at the court of the bishopric at Louth, and being reeve of the manor of Louth for one year only when elected; and a messuage and 10a. arable held of Hervey Malherbe of Louth by service of 2s. 4d. yearly. Welton by Louth. Two bovates of arable land, held of Richard de Farford of Louth in chief by service of 16d. and making one attendance at the said Richard’s court of Welton yearly, and rendering 2s. 6d. scutage when scutage runs at 40s. North Riston. 5a. meadow held of John de Shaddeworth by service of 1 1/2d. yearly. Alan his son, aged 11 at the feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist last, is his next heir.

	Penytone Mesy. A capital messuage, 42s. rent, 100a. arable, 3a. meadow, &c. with the advowson of the church, held of the heir of Nicholas de Sancto Mauro, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by service of 1/6 knight’s fee. Henry his son, is his next heir and of full age.
GLOUCESTER.	Inq. Monday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 17 Edward II.
	Harnhulle. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of the king by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, by reason of the lands late of the earl of Hereford now in the king’s hand. Heir as above, aged 40.

	Writ, requiring the escheator to execute his office within the liberty of Odiham, taking with him the sheriff of Southampton if necessary, 23 July, 16 Edward II.

	Stapelegh. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of finding a horseman in the king’s army in England for forty days, and rendering 13s. 4d. yearly in the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff, paying 9s. at the king’s castle of Odyham, and doing suit at the king’s court there. She held no other lands &c. John atte Berghe her son, aged 35 and more, is her next heir.

SALOP.	Inq. Thursday after St. Barnabas, 16 Edward II.
	Nesse. Two parts of the manor (extent given), the whole manor being held of the king in chief by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. Roger Lestraunge his brother, aged 22 at the feast of the Assumption last, is his next heir.
	Writ of certiorari on the petition of Maud, late the wife of the said John, showing that she was in joint seisin with him of two parts of the manor of Nesse until the day of his death, 28 August, 17 Edward II.
SALOP.	Inq. Sunday the feast of St. Leonard, 17 Edward II.
	The said John, 1 1/2 year before his death, granted by his charter two parts of the manor of Nesse (alias Nessehome), with the reversion of the third part which Iseult his mother holds in dower, to Emery Paunsefod [alias Pauncefot], who afterwards granted the same to the said John and Maud his wife, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder of the said two parts to the right heirs of the said John; and the said Maud continued her seisin thereof until the death of the said John. HERTFORD.	Inq. 16 June, 16 Edward II.
	Watton. The manor (extent given), held for life, by the gift of Master James de Moun by fine levied in the king’s court with remainder to Thomas Bardolf and his heirs, of the king in chief by service of a petty serjeanty, viz.—finding the king in his Welsh war a footman with bow and arrows for forty days. Stapelford. 5a. meadow, and 13s. 4d. rent, with the advowson of the church, held for life of Humphrey de Boun, late earl of Hereford, service unspecified. Thomas Bardolf, aged 30 and more, is her next heir.
SUSSEX.	Inq. Tuesday after SS. Peter and Paul, 16 Edward II.
	Plumpton. The manor, with 40a. land, 10a. meadow, and a water-mill at Fletchyng, held for life of Thomas son and heir of Hugh Bardolf, by the gift of William Bardolf his grandfather, by service of 1d. yearly, with reversion to the said Thomas. Berekompe. The manor held in dower of the inheritance of the said Thomas. Berewyck and Wyngeton. 12l. rent held for life, of the heirs of Hugh de Castr’ by service of a clove gillyflower yearly, by the gift of James de Mohun, with reversion to the said Thomas. Thomas her son, aged 30 and more, is her next heir in blood.
SURREY.	Inq. 31 August, 17 Edward II.
	Adynton. The manor (extent given), held for life only of the king by service of making a dish called ‘maupigernoun’ at the king’s coronation, with remainder to the said Thomas and his heirs by fine levied in the king’s court between the said Isabel and Master James le Moun. Heir as above.
SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. Thursday after St. James, 17 Edward II.
	Grutham. The manor (extent given), held for life, of the inheritance of the said Thomas, of the earl of Surrey, service unknown. Heir as above, aged 50.
NORFOLK.	Inq. 23 July, 17 Edward II.
	Scrouteby. The manor, held for life, of Laurence de Huntyngfeld, service unknown, by the gift of Master James le Mooun by fine levied in the king’s court, with remainder to the said Thomas and his heirs. Heir as above, aged 40 and more.

BERKS.	Inq. Wednesday the feast of St. Laurence, 17 Edward II.
	Erle. A messuage, 92a. arable, 40a. arable in the common field, 12a. meadow, 16a. wood and moor, and 29s. 6d. rent, held of Sir John de Erle, knight, by homage, fealty and service of 1/6 knight’s fee. Juliana his daughter, aged 4, is his next heir.

456.	GILES RANDOLF of North Kelleseye.
	Writ of certiorari to Robert de Malberthorp and others, on the petition of Maud late the wife of the said Giles, showing that for a long time after he married her, he was seised as of fee of a messuage, 2 bovates of land, and 24a. meadow in North Kelleseye, and granted the same to John Haunsard and Juliana his wife, and John their son and his heirs; which tenements were afterwards taken into the king’s hand, because the said John adhered to John Moubray the king’s enemy and rebel; and the said Giles has now died; they are to enquire whether there is any cause why the said Maud should not have her dower from the said tenements, 8 June, 16 Edward II.
LINCOLN.	Inq. taken in the presence of Alan de Cubbeldyk, keeper of contrariants’ lands &c. co. Lincoln, on Saturday after St. Bartholomew, 17 Edward II.
	Northkelleseye. The said Giles was seised as of fee of the tenements abovesaid when he married the said Maud and for five years after, before he alienated the same to the said John, Juliana and John &c., one moiety eight years ago, and the other moiety six years ago; the said Maud never quit claimed her right of dower, and there is no cause why she should not have it. The tenements are held of John de Hardeshull [alias de Hardredeshille] by service of 2 marks yearly, and doing suit at his court in the same town. The said Giles died on the quinzaine of Easter last.
	Assignment of dower to the said Maud by the aforesaid Alan de Cobeldik, reciting the king’s writ containing the above particulars dated 31 August, 17 Edward II., by virtue whereof he has assigned to the said Maud a third part of the above tenements in Northkelsey.
