234. ALICE DE GOUUIZ alias DE GOUIZ.
Writ, 12 July, 4 Edw. II. Endorsed: The said Alice after the death of William de Gouiz her father in 27 Edw. I. was found to be 10 years of age, and the said king sold the wardship and marriage to Sir John le Latymer, for which cause the jury of this inquisition would not say that she was seised of any lands, &c. on the day she died.

The said Alice held no lands in her demesne as of fee in the county on the day she died.
Her sister, Joan the wife of Sir John de (sic) Latymer, aged 24 and more, is her next heir.
Writ to the escheator to take the said lands, &c., into the king’s hand, and warn the said John to come before the king in his Chancery, on the quinzaine of St. Michael next to do and receive what the court shall think fit; the king having committed the wardship of the said lands, &c. to Alice de Leygrave, his nurse, until the lawful age of the heir, 25 Aug. 4 Edw. The castle, with 60a. land, a little park, and two parts of the forest of Felton, together with the reversion of the towns of Mitford, Felton, and Molleston, which, excepting the said two parts of the forest of Felton with the parks of Felton and Mitford, Ida de Nevyll holds in dower; the said castle, lands, and towns are held of the king in chief by the service pertaining to 100l. of land, and the said Eleanor, and Alexander de Balliol, were thereof enfeoffed by the late Queen Eleanor, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder of the said Eleanor and her heirs by any other husband.

Writ to the escheator to deliver the lands and body of the heir to Roger le Brabanzon, to whom the king has committed his wardship and marriage, 4 March, 4 Edw. II. Endorsed. That the escheator has delivered the above lands, &c. to Roger le Brabanzon; and the marriage of Edmund, son and heir of the said Isabel, is worth 20l., because he has 100s. of land in Kirketone, co. Lincoln, of the inheritance of his father, which are held of the earl of Richem[ond] in socage.

A capital messuage, 200a. arable, 4a. meadow, and 3a. pasture, held of the heir of Warin de Insula, then in the king’s wardship, as of his manor of Pissho, by service of 1d. yearly, besides scutage of 1/4 knight’s fee when it shall happen. The manor of Pissho is held of Geoffrey de Say, by service of 3 3/4 knights’ fees.
Thomas de Vautort her son, aged 24 and more, is her next heir.

249. JOAN, DAUGHTER AND HEIR OF JOHN DE WURTH alias DE WORTH, AND WIFE OF RICHARD KNYVET of Suthwyk.
Writ of certiorari on the petition of the said Richard, asserting that the said Joan is of full age, and seeking the said John’s lands, &c., 12 May, 4 Edw. II.
LINCOLN. Inq. 14 June, 4 Edw. II.
Haynton. 20a. land are in the king’s hand by reason of the minority of the said Joan, and are held of the king in chief as of the fee of Scoteny, which is in the king’s hand by purchase, by service of 1/70 knight’s fee.
Barkeworth. A messuage and 6 bovates land, were taken into the king’s hand by reason of the minority of Ralph, son and heir of Robert de Barkeworth who held of the said Joan by service of 1/8 knight’s fee; the said Ralph died at the feast of the Annunciation last, and by his death the lands, &c., are still in the king’s hand, by reason of the minority of William his brother and heir; and Joan late the wife of the said Robert de Barkeworth is dowered of a third part of all the said lands in Barkeworth, by the king’s writ.
The said Joan (Knyvet) is next heir of John de Worth, and was 17 on Saturday before Palm Sunday last, and Richard Knyvet espoused her, her marriage having been granted to him at the feast of St. Michael, 32 Edw. I. by the executors of Hawis de Grelle, in whose wardship she was by reason of the lands, &c. which her father held of the said Hawis in Hainton and Barkeworth by service of 1 knight’s fee.
