Byllyngesleye. Two parts (extent given), jointly held by the said Walter and Alice his wife, by the enfeoffment of Hugh Burnul her father, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, and the right heirs of the said Walter, of the abbot of Sees by service of 1lb. cummin.
Borewardesleye manor. A messuage, 1 virgate land and 1a. meadow, jointly held as above, by the like enfeoffment of Jordan de Sulderne, of Richard de Pychford by service of 41d. yearly; and a third part of a third of the manor, jointly held as above, by the like enfeoffment of Hugh Burnel, of the prior of Wenlok by the service aforesaid.

William le Ward, aged 50, says that the said heir was 21 at the feast of the Annunciation, 3 Edw. II, for he was born at Abinggeton at that feas 17 Edw. I, and baptized on the morrow in the church of St. Swithun there, which he knows because he was present at an inquisition taken by the escheator in 22 Edw. I concerning the lands of the said John, by which it was found that the said heir was 5 years old at the time of his father’s death, who died on the day of St. Mark, 22 Edw. I.
William le Maister, aged 40, says the same, and knows it by the testimony of the whole neighbourhood.
John le Clerk, aged 50, and William . . celyn, 60, say the same, and know it because they were present at the assignment of dower of Alice mother of the said heir, soon after the said John’s death, when it was testified by her and others that the said heir was 5 years old at the death of his father.
Peter atte Brok, aged 40, says the same, and knows it because he has a son John who was born at Shrovetide (ad carniprivium) next before the birth of the said heir.
Thomas de la Sale, aged 50 and more, says the same, and knows it because he was the king’s bailiff in the hundred of Arnyngford, and made an attachment at Abinggeton on one John le Rous by summons from the king’s exchequer on that day.
Gilbert le Lord, aged 54, Robert le Maister, 60, Hugh Nobeloc, 40, Henry atte Ho, 44, Geoffrey de Kirkeby, 60, and John Wolverich, 47, agree with the foregoing, and know it because at the inquisition made after the death of the said John they were examined by the escheator, and presented that the said William was next heir and aged 5 and more.
And John Baudry and the others, in whose wardship the lands, &c. were, had nothing to say why the king ought not to render them to the said heir.

Hugh de Popham, knight, aged 60, William Fychet, aged 60, John de Kent, aged 50, William de Berefo[rd], aged 60, William de Haleswell, aged 40, Richard de Bury, aged 40, Adam de Chaundos, aged 60, …… Hare, aged 50, Robert de la Pyle, aged 60, John Rochel, aged 40, Richard Rouland, aged 60 [and] …. le Mareschal, aged 40, say that the said Hugh was 21 on Monday the morrow of Whitsunday, 2 Edw. II, for he was [born] at Yveton on that day 16 Edw. I, and baptized in the church of [Bromfeld]. And this the said Hugh knows because John his son was born in the same year, and was 22 ……..; William Fychet knows it because he was bailiff of Walter de la Lynde, lord of Bromfeld, and took (inquisition?) of the lands of the said Thomas de la Tour after his death, 18 years ago, and then it was found ……… 4 years; John de Kent knows it because he had a son at the schools of Taunton in company with the said Hugh 17 years ago, of the same age, viz.—5 years; William de Bereford his godfather knows it by the date of a charter …………….; William de Haleswell and Adam de Chaundos know it because the same Adam ………. on the day of the said Hugh’s birth, and the said William was present at the feast; and the rest know it by other certain evidences. Margaret de la Tour his mother, to whom Master Thomas de Columbrugg, who had the wardship by the late king’s grant, sold it, had nothing [to say] why the king ought not to render the lands, &c, to the said Hugh.

I ending, and on the same day was baptized in the church of St. Peter ………., and this he knows because he was the king’s coroner in the county …………. day to come to Blizefeld for an accident which then happened there and on the said day ……… and did the office of coroner.
John de Heranwill, knight, aged 70, says that the said Elizabeth was 16 on Whitsunday last, for she was born at Newenton on that day, 21 Edw. I, ………, and this he knows because at Easter before ……… son of Henry de Harleye, of co. Worcester, married Alice …………….. [aged] 50, says [the same?] ………………………………………………………

Thomas de Waus, aged 60, says the said Geoffrey was 21 on the day of St. Agnes the Martyr last, and on that day 21 years ago was born at Cobeligton and baptized on the morrow in the church of St. Nicholas there, which he knows for he lifted him from the font and is his godfather.
William Dounwal, aged 70, says the said Geoffrey was of full age before the feast of the Purification last, and this he knows because between Easter and Ascension Day then following he married Agnes his wife in the church of Wenge, and she is the said Geoffrey’s godmother.
Richard Rag’, aged 60, says the said Geoffrey was of full age 15 days before the Purification last, which he knows because Henry his firstborn son was born on Good Friday (die crucis adorate) following in the same year, who completed his age of 21 on the quinzaine of Easter last.
Luke Bodin, aged 50, says the said Geoffrey will be 22 about the feast of the Epiphany next, which he knows because at the time the said Geoffrey was born and before, he was bailiff of Geoffrey de Lucy his father, and keeper of his manors of Cobeligton, Wyginton and Gatesdene, and remained with him for fourteen years, and afterwards with Ellen de Lucy, grandmother of the present Geoffrey, for seven-and-a-half years.
Thomas de Waus the younger, aged 50, says the said Geoffrey has completed 21 years and more, as he has often heard from men worthy of credit.
John de Fraxino, aged 40, says the like.
Walter de Cobeligton, aged 60, says the said Geoffrey was of full age on the day of St. Agnes last, and he knows it because Master William Fraunceys, his brother, rector of the church of Cobeligton, about Easter after the birth, was presented to that church by Geoffrey de Lucy the father, and instituted by Oliver then bishop of Lincoln on the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross last, 21 years ago.
Hugh de Messendon, aged 45, says the said Geoffrey will be 22 within the quinzaine of the Epiphany next, which he knows because within the fortnight in which the said Geoffrey was born he married Maud, daughter of William le Duyn.
William le Duyn, aged 40, says the same, for about the time the said Geoffrey was born he gave the said Maud his daughter to William le Duyn (sic) to wife.
John de Walda, aged 70, says the said Geoffrey was 21 eight days before the Purification last, for he well remembers the year and time.
Walter Hereberd, aged 40, and William de Cobelington, aged 50, say the like.

John de Mitleton, aged 45, says that the said Elizabeth was born at Ayston and baptized in the church there, and was 14 on Wednesday after St. Nicholas last, and this he knows because he is her godfather and lifted her from the font.
Hugh de Careswell, aged 50, says the same, and knows it because on the same day he married his wife, and saw the said Elizabeth being baptized at the door of the church.
Adam Judas, aged 60, says the same, and knows it because his mother was buried that day in the cemetery of the said church, and in returning he met …. carrying the said Elizabeth to be baptized.
John Hasard, aged 40, agrees, and knows it because Philip his father on the same day enfeoffed him of all his lands in Ayston.
Henry de Cornewaile, aged 55, agrees, and knows it because he had a son baptized on the same day in the said church.
Adam Osberne, aged 60, agrees, and knows it because when building a chamber in his place near the manor of the said Brian, he heard the said Elizabeth wailing.
William de Fraxino, aged 50, says the same, and knows it because he then was of the household of the said Brian, and on the said Wednesday saw the said Elizabeth lying in her cradle in her nurse’s chamber.
Richard Faber, aged 60, says the same, and knows it because William de Drayton his servant was slain in Ayston on the same day, and in following the felon he saw the said Elizabeth being baptized at the door of the church.
William de Weston, aged 50, Richard de Morton, aged 40, Philip de Castro, aged 50, and Adam Hasard, aged 40, agree, and know it by many evident reasons.

I, and baptized in the church of All Saints there on the morrow, and this he knows because a daughter Maud was born to him at the same time.
John de Conqueste, knight, aged 60, says the same, and knows it because at the same time he entered the service of Sir John de Grey, and had the office of steward.
Nicholas de Mepertes. a., aged 60, says the same, and knows it because at the same time Robert his son and heir married one Sarra who ……… several sons and daughters, by whose ages he recollects about the age of the said Robert, and chiefly by the age of his elder son.
William ……, aged 56, says the same, and knows it because Thomas his son was born on the Gule of August preceding, and will be 22 on that feast next.
John de Bray of Sivelesho, aged 60, says the same, and knows it because Alice his daughter and heir in the same year was married to William de Tyville, and bore a daughter Isabel when Alice, mother of the said Robert, was churched after his birth, which Isabel is now 21 and more.
John Phippe, aged 60, says the same, and knows it because on the night after the said churching (purificacionem) of the said Alice in the court of Camelton, …….. a child of Sir Richard de Lymesey lying in his cradle (cunis), which boy on the following day was buried in the church …………………….
Walter Blundel, aged 40, William de Holewelle, aged 42, William de Meperteshal, aged 45, W …….., aged 50, William Boyneton (?), aged 60, and William Tyville (?), aged 50, say the same, and know it because the king’s justices in eyre were sitting at Bedford ………… Robert was born in the year following, 16 Edw. I. ……. in the same year, one William, lord of Holewelle, ….. his inheritance (?) ………. Romesey in the presence of Sir William de Bereford and other trustworthy men.
And Rotheric de J ……….., Joceline, and Andrew de Tong, who had the wardship of the lands, &c. of the said Robert’s inheritance, did not come nor oppose anything ……

Kent, by service of 1/16 knight’s fee, and that Eustace his son is his next heir and of full age; but because Cecily late the wife of the said Robert has asserted that she was enfeoffed jointly of the said tenements with the said Robert by John son of Robert de Kyngessnode, and has exhibited a fine levied in the king’s court, and a day was given her in the chancery to receive what the court should adjudge; the escheator is commanded to warn the said Eustace to be present, to show what he can to the contrary, 10 Dec. 3 Edw.
