	Wyk. The manor with the hamlet of Suthteng pertaining thereto (extent given with names of tenants), including 12d. rent for a water-course to the mill of Shilstone, held of the king in chief, service unknown. Lideford. The manor with the forest of Dertemore (extent given), including a ruinous castle, 48 burgesses, and a fair on the day of St. Bartholomew, held of the king in chief at fee farm, rendering 10l. yearly at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff of Devon. Edward king of England, his kinsman, is his next heir and of full age.

	Kenton. The manor with its member Hevittre (extent given with names of tenants), including a heath and turbary on the hill of Hagheldon, a fishery and ferry at Exemuth, and another ferry at Tengmuth, and a rent of 18d. for a watercourse to the mill of Poudram, held of the king in chief, service unknown. Braneys. The manor (extent given with names of tenants), including a park with deer, a fishery, 120 burgesses, and a fair on the feast of St. Denis, held of the king in chief, service unknown. 	Lanceveton. The castle and manor, and divers other castles, manors &c. held of the king in chief by service of 2 knights’ fees, viz.— Lanceveton. The castle; the borough which is in the hands of the burgesses, at fee farm, rendering 100s. yearly, 7s. 6d. for a certain escheat, and 1lb. pepper from the guild (de Gihalda) of the town; 50s. from certain tenants of Hemeston, co. Devon, to be rendered at the gate of the castle of ancient custom; 68s. 8d. to be rendered by certain tenants (names given) in Lodewan, Trevyliac, Dowanna and Estwefelshire at the gate of the castle for their watches of ancient custom; a park with deer and a water-mill; and a moiety of the amercements of the town, for assise broken, of the prior of Lanceveton, which the earl recovered in the eyre of the justices. The steward of Cornwall used to receive yearly for his bailliwick in the earl’s time of fee 60l. and 2 robes, price 4l.; and the constable of the castle of Tyntagel used to receive yearly for his bailliwick 50s. 8d. and a robe, price 13s. 4d.
SOMERSET.	Inq. 10 Dec. 29 Edw. I.
	Ivelcestre, of the bailiwick of Meere. The borough held of the king in chief, service unknown, receiving yearly by the hands of the burgesses 20l. 9s. 6d. blanch farm, which they used to render at the king’s exchequer yearly by the charter of king John, and they also rendered to the said earl yearly of new rent 6s., viz.—4s. for a messuage which Solomon the Jew sometime held, and 2s. for a tenement which Hugh Cole holds. Heir as above, aged 21 and more.
DORSET.	Inq. 17 Nov. 28 Edw. I (defective and defaced).
	Fordington, of the bailiwick of Mere. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including a pasture called Graswyk, common of pasture in the meadows of Borton, an oak wood in Blakemor, the hamlet of Whytewelle, and tenements in Knython and Forshull, held of the king in chief, service unknown. Heir as last above.
WILTS.	Inq. 18 Nov. 28 Edw. I.
	Mere. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including a castle, 146 1/2a. under the hills in Wodecombe and Chatecombe and 139a. upon the hills, meadows in Westmed, Estmed, ‘la Brech,’ and ‘la Conewich,’ land and pasture upon Mapeldorehulle, ‘la Conewich,’ and Horscroft, pasture in Swenecumbe, Wodecumbe and Chatecumbe, parks called ‘la Conewich ’ with deer, and Deverlingewode, and a certain mola called Stanegrist, a custom of merchants called Scottale, and a hundred worth in aid, sheriff’s turn and tethingpeni, 4l. 3s. 2d. yearly, rendered by the tithings of Kingeston, Chadenwich, Cnowel, Sturton, Seles, ‘la Wodelonde,’ and Mere; held of the king in chief, service unknown. (fn. 3) Whereof the constable of the castle receives 60s. 8d. for his wages (vadiis), viz. 2d. daily, and for his stipend (stipendiis) 13s. 4d., a porter and a watchman 4l. 11s. yearly for wages, and 13s. 4d. for stipend, a chaplain celebrating in the chapel of the castle 50s. yearly, the parker of ‘la Conewich’ 17s. 4d. yearly, the parker of Deverlingewode 17s. 4d., and a bedel of the hundred 6s. 8d.; and the steward of Mere receives for keeping the manor with Cosham, Malmesbury, Wilton and Bereford, co. Wilts, Fordinton and Binedon, co. Dorset, and Ivelcestre, co. Somerset, 10l. of fee, and for his robe 26s. 8d. Heir as last above.
WILTS.	Inq. 15 Nov. 28 Edw. I.
	Corsham, of the bailliwick of Meere. The manor (extent given with names of tenants), including a park called Estpark with 6 deer, a park called Westpark, and lands in Stratton, held of the king in chief, service unknown. (Unspecified.) 20l. rent by the hands of the abbot of Malmesbury, which the abbot used to render at the exchequer, and which King Henry the king’s father gave to Richard sometime earl of Cornwall, the said Edmund’s father. WILTS.	Inq. 4 Dec. 29 Edw. I (defective).
	Wylton, of the bailiwick of Meere. The borough (full extent given with names of tenants), including a market held every week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, toll of ‘tangable,’ ‘flesgable,’ ‘stocgable’ and stallage, a toll at the bridge of Ayleswade outside New Salisbury from fish and salt pertaining to the said borough, and a fair (feyria) at the feast of St. Matthew, which is of the abbess of Wylton and the said earl, and pleas &c. of court with ‘brewgable,’ held of the king in chief, service unknown; which King Henry the the king’s father gave to Richard, king of Almain, the said Edmund’s father. Whereof the lepers of St. Giles’s without Wylton receive 4l. yearly of the gift ….. of kings of England. Bereford. 40s. of …… to be received by the hands of William Cheyndu(t) for his tenement in Bereford. Heir as last above.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. made at Rokyngham, 16 Oct. 28 Edw. I.
	Little Weledon, of the bailliwick of Oucham. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants) held of the king in chief by service of rendering 40s. yearly at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff of Rutland. Heir as above, of full age.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. 15 Oct. [28 Edw. I].
	Rokingham, of the bailliwick of Oucham. The town (extent given with names of tenants), including a fair on the eve and the day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, held of the king in chief, service unknown. Heir as last above. [ (fn. 4) NORTHAMPTON.] …… 28 Edw. I. Liberty of the honour of Berkhamstede held of the king in chief of divers baronies, viz.:— Barony of Cheindut. Fixed fines at the view of frankpledge in Middelton, Cherleton, Westfarndon, Holcot and Estneston, Charwelton with Preston Capes, Snoscoumbe, Hoghton by Langeporte, Cousgrave and Forho, and Throp and Welton. Barony of Maureward. Similar fines in Armyngwrth, Boudon, Dingelegh, Farndon by Boudon, and Oxendon. Barony of Lucy. Similar fines in Carleton, Heselbeche, Holthrop, and Herlaston. And all the townships aforesaid render 26s. of arrented rent yearly; and pleas &c. of the court of the said honour and view are worth 13s. 4d. yearly. Sum of the extent, 4l. 5s.
HUNTINGDON.	Inq. 14 Oct. 28 Edw. I (defective).
	Glatton, of the bailliwick of Oucham. The manor with the hamlet of Hulme alias Holme (full extents given with names of tenants), including pasture around Littleham, pastures called ‘la Leye’ and Wellegrene and at ‘la Renedale,’ and fisheries in Ubmere, Birshemere, and Wittlesmere for fishing wherein with boats the abbot of Ramsey and others pay rents, a liberty of testing the nets with a certain ‘billete’ by which they ought to be knotted for taking small fish, with power to the bailiff of the manor to burn all nets found beyond the assise or take a fine, a place at Horn by the stream for washing herrings, a hulm in Jakele, and 40s. rent for tenements in Conyngton and Pertenhale, held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of 4 1/2 (?) knights’ fees. Heir as above.
RUTLAND.	Inq. Friday after St. Denis, 28 Edw. I (defaced).
	Ocham. The castle with the towns of Ocham, Egelton and Langeham, with the soke (extent given with names of tenants), including in Ocham two parks with deer called Flyterys and Littlepark, 2 thickets called Lundes and Cop, pasture in Mouleholm, and the following free tenants held of the king in chief, service unknown. Free tenants in Ocham and elsewhere, including:— Wringlesworthe, co. Nottingham. 2 carucates of land held by Henry de Wringlesworthe, rendering 13s. 4d. yearly or a palfrey. Gunthorp. 9 virgates of land held by William de Hotot, rendering 34s… yearly and doing suit of court every three weeks. Braunston. 5 virgates of land held by William atte halle, rendering 28s. 8d. yearly, and doing suit. Thorp and Twyforde, co. Leicester. 8 1/2 virgates of land held by the abbot of Osolston, rendering …. yearly, and doing suit; and 2 carucates of land held by the abbot of Vaudey, doing suit for all service. Thorp by Ocham. 13s. yearly from the township for custom remitted. And there are 29 burgesses, tolls of the market and fair, and a custom called surplusage from the whole soke from sheriff’s aid and view of frankpledge. John, the chaplain, celebrating in the chapel of the castle, receives yearly at the exchequer of the castle 50s., which used to be paid from the rents of the bondmen of Egelton, and 43s. 7d. from tithes of the parks and market &c. The prior of Brok receives the tithe of the mill and ……; the warrener receives 6s. 8d. yearly for his service ……; the reeve 10s. for his stipend; and the bedel 10s. for his service.
RUTLAND.	The county, in which are 14l. 16s. 4d. of assised rent yearly, whereof:— Ketene. The township renders 2s. (for the use?) of the queen. Preston. The manor with the adjacent hamlets of Heston, Twykenham and Wytton (full extents given with field names and names of tenants), including an island and a weir in the Thames, tenures called ‘werklond,’ ‘gaderetherde,’ ‘cotlond,’ ‘forapelond,’ ‘bordlond,’ ‘hawelond’ and ‘akerlond,’ customs called ‘waterbederepe’ and ‘alebederepe,’ and 21l. fixed rent from Queenhithe, London (de ripa Regine Lond’), (held of) …….. SUSSEX.	Inq. 12 Nov. 28 Edw. I.
	Old Schorham, of the bailiwick of Berkhamstede. 14 virgates of land pertaining to his castle of Berkehamstede, in the hands of bondmen (full extent given with names of tenants), service unknown; and a messuage and a carucate of land held by Master Thomas de Ambberbyri of the said earl, rendering 12d. yearly. Heir as above.
SUSSEX.	Inq. 16 Nov. 28 Edw. I (defaced).
	Cycestre, of the bailiwick of Waling[ford]. The city, with assised rents in the city and suburb (full extent given with names of burgesses and tenants), stallage, toll and custom of the market, ‘brugavel,’ custom in the sheep market, serjeanty, tailor’s guild &c., held of the king in chief, rendering 38l. 10s. yearly at the king’s exchequer; and there are due to the prior of Arundel 40s., and to the chaplains of the chapel of the castle. …. ESSEX.	Inq. Monday after St. Martin, 28 Edw. I.
	Neuport; bailiwick of Berckhamst[ede]. The manor, with a hamlet called Bilichangre, and with the following liberties, viz.—return of the king’s writs, infongenthef, houtfongenthef, gallows, tumberel, pillory, and view of frankpledge (full extent given with field names and names of tenants), including tenements in Broneshoo and Helpistone, held of the king in chief, service unknown. And the town and hamlet ought to be taxed at 100s. when the king taxes his boroughs and ‘methanios.’ Heir as above.

	Berkhamstude. The castle with the town, halmote and other liberties, and the borough, excepting 2 messuages and the gaol which the rector and convent of Asherugge hold of the gift of the said earl with the king’s confirmation (full extent given with names of tenants, including the master of the house of St. Thomas of Acon), held of the king in chief by service of 2 knights’ fees; including a great stable, the fishery of the mill-pond with the ditch round the castle, mills called [Banekemull], Synekemulle, castle mill, and North-mulle, a park with deer, a wood called ‘le Frith,’ and meadows called ‘le Longmed’ and ‘le Brodemed.’ Berkhamstude. The borough (full extent given with names of tenants, including the abbots of Messendene and Reding), including 12 burgesses and 62 free tenants, who owe services for having common of the wood of ‘le Frith’ and Sandputtes, 22 free tenants by serjeanty, 18 customers and bondmen (nativi) holding by greater tenure, and tenants of lesser tenure and assart. Berkhamstude. 33s. 6d. yearly rents for fixed view of the great court in the townships of Wygenton, Goblyngcote, Bettelawe, ‘La Lee’ and Northcote, Merston, Dreyton, Aldebury, Woketon, Weston and Loghton, Hyldesdon, Wavyngdon and Agmodesham, Suaneburn, Lymford, Salden, ‘la Hyde’ in Mursle, Wengrave and Wedon; pleas &c. of the great court 13s. 4d., of the portmote 60s., and of the halmote with fixed view 33s. 4d., and toll of the market 50s. And the steward of Berkhamstude receives for the custody of the honour and the manors of Istelworth, Chippenham, Risemberge, and Neuport in Essex, 15l. 6s. 8d. and 2 robes with fur, with hay, litter and firewood at the said manors, and 6s. 8d. for returning the kings’ writs; the constable of the castle receives 9l. 2s. yearly, 2 robes with fur like the steward, firewood and litter; the chaplain receives 50s. yearly from the lord; the porter 45s. 6d. and a robe, price 10s.; the watchman (vigilator) 45s. 6d. and a robe, price 5s.; William de Hereford 8l. 6s. 10d. and a robe, price 10s., for life by the said earl’s charter for keeping the park of Berkhamstud and the wood; the reeve of the castle 5s. yearly and 4s. for food in the autumn; and the bedel 5s. yearly. BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. Friday after All Saints, 28 Edw. I.
	Risemberg; bailiwick of Berkhamst[ede]. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including a capital messuage with dikes (fossatis) round the manor house (manerium), 2 gardens outside the dikes, and a park near by with deer, 465a. 1r. arable in an assart called Stockyng, 2 foreign woods wherein all the men of 4 townships have free common, and all the free tenants of the manor have their pigs quit of pannage, and Gerard de Braybroch has his pigs of his manor of Horsyndon quit, and the bondmen render 10s. yearly for the lord to divers men for lands within the park taken and enclosed by Richard king of Almain, and all the tenants hold a wood called ‘le Hellewrk’ [alias ‘le Helwrik’] in common. All held of the king in chief, service unknown. Heir as above.

	Cippenham. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including a park by the manor and another park called Herteleye, held of the abbot of Westminster in chief by service of 50s. Eton and Wyndelesouer. 37s. 9d. yearly rent from free tenants (extent given with names of tenants), and 10s. toll of Eton, held of the king in chief, service unknown. Whereof in rent resolute to the abbot &c. of Westminster for the manor of Cippenham 50s. yearly, to the prior of Bermundeseye for alms to the monks 60s., to the lord of Dachet for a plot in the park by the manor 6s. 8d., to the lord of Hunter-coumbe for a tenement which John de Asshele holds of the king 4s., to the lord of Hugelegh for a tenement which Robert son of Walter holds of the king 6s., for tenements in Wyndelesouere in the extent of Eton 3s., and from Ralph de Burnham for a tenement which Silvester Brown holds 2s. Allowances (struck through with the pen) to the reeve of Cippenham 10 1/4d., to the parker by the manor 10 1/4d., to the parker of Hertelegh 10 1/4d., to the bedell of Cippenham 4 1/2d., and to the villeins of Cippenham for a custom called Medeshipe 4s. 6d. with 1 qr. of corn, price 4s. 	Bensyngton. The manor and town held of the king in chief, service unknown; which the men of the town hold of him at fee farm for 39l. 2s. 11d. yearly, saving to the said Edmund and his heirs all fines, merchets, herriets, reliefs, pleas &c. of courts, tolls &c. including 5s. toll of salt of Bensynton and 6d. toll of salt of Henlee. Watlintone. The manor and town (full extent given with names of tenants), including meadow at Pekgesheth, pastures called Ballond, Clayhull, ‘le Brok’ and ‘la Flete,’ a messuage in Wallyngef(ord) land in the field of Lechemere and a custom of brewing ale called ‘tollestre,’ and a custom coming from the pigs of villeins called ‘gresenese,’ held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee. 	The said earl had the honour of Eye by hereditary succession after the death of Richard, sometime earl of Cornwall, his father, who had it of the gift of king Henry his brother. Segbrock. The township, which is of the said honour, held by Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, of the said earl, service unknown; but four villeins and the reeve of the earl of Lincoln shall come to the earl of Cornwall’s court next after Michaelmas, and present bloodshed, hue (and cry) raised, waif, and park broken, only, and the earl of Cornwall had his park within the earl of Lincoln’s manor, whose free tenants shall make one appearance at the said court. Alington. A knight’s fee held by William Burdet of the earl of Cornwall, doing suit at his court every 3 weeks and rendering 3s. 4d. (yearly) for the guard of the castle of Eye; and the said William’s tenants made one attendance at the said court and presented all they ought to present. Two parts of the town are in the hand of John de Sandale by the king’s commission, because it is said that the said Stephen forfeited them because he went beyond the sea with the bishop of St. Andrews, the king’s enemy, into Scotland; and the third part is in the hand of Cecily late (the wife) of Ingram Pesson, grandfather of the said Stephen, in dower. Acastre and Aton, co. York, and Neubo, co. Lincoln, held by Richard Malebise by service of 1 knight’s fee, doing suit as above and rendering 3s. 4d. for the guard of the said castle. Welleburn, of the said honour. 100s. rent from free tenants who hold 5 carucates of land, held by William de Godested, rendering 6s. 8d. for the guard of the said castle, and his tenants used to do one appearance (yearly) at the bridge of Skynand at the wapentake of king Henry whilst the honour was in his hand; afterwards the said king gave the honour to Richard his brother, whose bailiffs have since compelled those tenants to make an attendance and present as above, at his court at Segbrock usque in terciam Wappn’, and so they did in the time of Earl Edmund. Lady Isabel de Vescy holds a manor for life, and the tenants make the same attendance as those of William de Godested, and the villeins contribute with them to the common fines; and after her death the manor reverts to the king or his heirs. Stephen de Cotum had there a toft, and Osbert de la Dounhall had 2 1/2a. land, and each freely granted to Earl Richard 6d. yearly for having avowry from him, and Earl Edmund has had the same from those who held the toft until now.
