538.	RICHARD FOLIOT AND JORDAN FOLIOT, knight.
	Writ, upon the death of the said Jordan, 2 May, 27 Edw. I.
	Writ of scire facias to the same escheator to warn the stewards and bailiffs of John de Warenna, earl of Surrey, and Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, who have asserted that the lands &c. which were of the said Jordan were held of them separately and not of the king, by knights’ service, whereby the wardship ought to pertain to them, to be present at the taking of the inquisitions, 15 May, 27 Edw. I.
DERBY.	Inq. concerning the lands &c. of the said Richard and Jordan, made at Wynnefeld, 1 July, 27 Edw. I.
	Horeston. The castle with the soke was held by the said Richard for life by the king’s grant. Neither the said Richard nor Jordan ever held anything in demesne as of fee in the county. Jordan, son of the said Richard, was his next heir on the day of his death, and was aged 50 and more. Richard, son of the said Jordan, aged 15 at Christmas last, is his next heir.
NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. as above, made at Retford, 27 June, 27 Edw. I.
	Grymmeston and Welhawe. The manors and the hamlet of Besthorp, with the soke of Grimmeston and members, were held for life by the said Richard of Jordan his son. He held nothing in his demesne as of fee in the county. The said Jordan was his next heir, aged 50 and more, and died within 5 weeks after his father: he held the same manors &c. of Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, and Margaret, countess of Lincoln, his consort, by service of a knight’s fee; whereof Margery his wife, who still survives, was enfeoffed jointly with him by the said Richard his father, for her life. Heir as above.
YORK.	Inq. as above, made at York 23 June, 27 Edw. I.
	Northon and Fenewyk. 10l. rent from the manors, to be received yearly from the said Jordan and Margery, were held for life by the said Richard, who held nothing in his demesne as of fee in the county. Jordan his son was his next heir, aged 50 and more, and died as abovesaid. The said Jordan and Margery, jointly enfeoffed by the said Richard, held the said manors on the day of the said Jordan’s death of Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, by service of 3 knights’ fees, and the said Margery still survives. Heir as above.

	Gressenhale The manor (very full extent given with names of tenants) held of the earl of Warrenne in chief by service of 8 1/2 knights’ fees, and doing suit at his court of Castel Acre every three weeks. Heir as above, aged 15 years.
NORFOLK.	Inq. concerning the lands &c. which were of the said Jordan, made at Derham Market, 19 July, 27 Edw. I.
	Ausingg. The manor (very full extent given with names of tenants), where there is a motte built, but whether it is held of the earl of Gloucester or of the earl of Warenne is unknown to the jury, the whole residue of the manor he held of the earl of Gloucester in chief by service of 2 knights’ fees. Heir as above, aged 15 and more.

BEDFORD.	Inq. Wednesday after St. Scholastica, 27 Edw. I (faded).
	Eyton. The manor (full extent given), including a park, 10a. land upon ‘la Doune,’ a wood called Dodesynneshay, and lands, rents &c. in Websnade, Wodemanleye, Birchmore, Toternho, Eddeworth, Beston and Henlawe, Wymington, Leteburn and Mentmore, held of the king in chief by service of 1 1/4 knight’s fee, and scutage when it runs. William la Zouche, her son, aged 22 and more, is her next heir.
BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. Friday before St. Valentine, 27 Edw. I.
	Feldhamme and Wodehamme. The manor (extent given), including a piece of wood within the king’s forest of Bernewode, held of the earl of Gloucester and Joan his wife in chief by service of a knight’s fee, doing scutage when it runs. Wodehamme. 6a. land, 2a. meadow, a piece of wood within the forest aforesaid, and 19s. 1 1/2d. rents, held of Richard de Arches, rendering a pair of gilt spurs or 6d. yearly. Heir as above, aged 22 years.
WILTS.	Inq. Thursday before St. Peter in Cathedra, 27 Edw. I.
	Calstone. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants) held of the king in chief by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. Calne. The hundred, foreign and internal, and part of the borough and of a hamlet called Bor’ (extent given with names of tenants in Bor’), held of the king at fee farm for 15l. to be rendered yearly at the king’s exchequer. William la Soche, her son, aged 21 on 18 Dec. in the year abovesaid, is her next heir.
WARWICK.	Inq. 3 March, 27 Edw. I (faded).
	Weston. The manor with its members Ruyton, Bulkynton, Wybytoft and Wolfareshull (full extents given with names of tenants), including a park, held of John Comyn, earl of Boghan, one of the heirs of Roger de Quyncy, earl of Winchester, by service of 12d. yearly for all service; whose lands &c. are now in the king’s hands. Seles. 1 knight’s fee was held by the same William in chief of Richard son of John by royal service; which Walter de Aylesbury [alias de Alesbyry] holds in socage, rendering to the said William 12d. yearly. Midsomeresnorthton. 1/2 knight’s fee was held by the same William in chief of Joan de Vivonia by royal service; which Laurence de Hamelden holds &c. in socage, rendering 1d. yearly to the said William. Dueliz. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants) held by the said William of the earl of Gloucester in chief by service of a knight’s fee. His daughters, Joan aged 14, and Alice aged 10, are his next heirs.

	Donetysse. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including pasture in the park, held in chief of the abbot of Glastonbury by homage and service of a knight’s fee, and by royal service when it shall happen. Tyleye and Watercomb. 1/2 knight’s fee held of the abbot of Cern by royal service when it shall happen. Heirs as above, and their marriage is worth 66l. 13s. 4d.

	Wynterborn Assche. 1/2 knight’s fee, and other knights’ fees as in the above inq. of 26 Jan. with the variations there given within square brackets, and the following addition:— Donetysse. A chapel.
	Writ to the escheator, on the complaint of John le Latimer, who married Joan, eldest daughter and heir of the said William, to whom the king granted the wardship of two parts of the said William’s lands &c. that the manor of Duntish, which is the chief manor of the inheritance and has the only park, had been assigned to Petronilla late the wife of the said William in dower, and that she has more than pertains to her &c., commanding him to extend all the said lands &c. in the hands of the said John and Petronilla and send the extent so that the king may have it a month from Easterday, warning the said Petronilla to be then present, 24 Feb. 28 Edw. I. Endorsed by the escheator that he has warned the attorneys of the said Petronilla who is in parts across the seas by the king’s protection.
DORSET.	Inq. made at Donetyssch, 1 May, 28 Edw. I.
	Doueliz. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants) held by the said John and Petronilla of the earl of Gloucester, is worth 37l. 16s.; whereof the said Petronilla holds in dower 120a. arable, 4a. meadow, pasture, wood and rent, worth 109s. 1 3/4d. Donetysch. The manor (extent given with names of tenants) wholly held by the said Petronilla in dower, and 1/2 knight’s fee &c. similarly held in Tiley and Watercomb, the whole worth 10l. 14s. 11 1/2d.; and there is a chapel there to which the said John shall present twice, and the said Petronilla the third time, if there shall be so many vacancies in her time. Knights’ fees held by the said John and Petronilla, viz.—12 1/4 knights’ fees which used to pertain to the manor of Wynterburn Assch’ (extent given as above), whereof the said Petronilla holds in dower 4 1/3 and 1/5 knights’ fees.
	Writ to the escheator to the same effect as the last, requiring him to have the said extents before the king on the quinzaine of Holy Trinity, warning the said Petronilla to be present, and being there himself to show why he has not executed the former writ, 2 May, 28 Edw. I. Endorsed by the escheator that he has warned the attorneys of the said Petronilla &c. as above.
