HUNTINGDON.	Inq. made at Huntingdon on Saturday the morrow of the Assumption, 26 Edw. I.
	Upton. The manor (extent given), including 2a. wood within the bounds of the forest, held of the king in chief by reason of the lands &c. which were of John de Balliolo of the honour of Huntingdon by service of 1/6 knight’s fee, and suit at the county (court) of Huntingdon. Denton. A messuage, 70a. land, 1 1/2a. meadow, 11s. 7d. rent of cottars, and 23s. 4d. rent of villeins yearly, held of the bishop of Lincoln in chief by service of 8d. yearly, and suit at the bishop’s court of Spaldwyk. Sibethorp. The manor (extent given), held of the abbot of Rammeseye by service of 11s. 4d. yearly; and 4a. meadow held of the earl of Hereford by service of 2s. yearly and 1lb. pepper. Herthey. Two carucates of land of an assart called Herthey, held at fee farm of the bishop of Lincoln in chief, rendering him 10l. yearly. Ralph his brother, aged 26 and more, is his next heir.

	Billingburgh. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants) held of Richard de Gravenhill, knight, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and 7s. 1 1/2d. rent, and 2s. to the master of Daleby; and 1/2 bovate of land held of the prior of Sempingham by service of 2s. yearly. William his son, aged 11 at the feast of the Ascension last, is his next heir.
LEICESTER.	Inq. (undated).
	Bokeministre. The manor (extent given with names of tenants) held of David de Fletewyk by homage and foreign service. Heir as above, aged 12.
RUTLAND.	Inq. 18 Sept. 26 Edw. I.
	Little Castreton. Two messuages, 90a. arable, 6a. 3 1/2r. meadow, and 4s. rent of a free tenant, held of the king in chief, as of his manor of Eston by service of 1/6 knight’s fee and doing suit at the court of the said manor every three weeks. Heir as above, aged 9 at the Gule of August last.
	Writ (ad melius inquirendum), no mention being made in the foregoing inquisition whether the said Simon held the said lands &c. in Little Castreton as of the crown or otherwise, 18 Sept. 26 Edw. I.
RUTLAND.	Inq. made at Tinewelle, 30 Sept. 26 Edw. I.
	Little Castreton. Two messuages and lands &c. as above, held of the king by service of 1/6 knight’s fee; which lands &c. the said Simon and his ancestors sometime held of Simon de Lindon and his ancestors by the same service, as of the manor of Eston; which manor Lady Eleanor sometime the king’s consort acquired of the said Simon de Lyndon, and it is now in the king’s hand. He held nothing of the king in chief as of the crown. Heir as last above.
	Writ of plenius certiorari, no mention being made in the foregoing inquisitions whether the said Simon held elsewhere of the king in chief as of the crown or otherwise, or not; nor does it appear of whom the said Simon de Lindon held the manor of Eston or by what service &c. 7 Oct. 26 Edw. I.
RUTLAND.	Inq. made at Ocham, 20 Oct. 28 Edw. I.
	Little Castreton. Two messuages, and lands &c. as above, held as above as of the manor of Eston, co. Northampton. Simon de Bokeministre held nothing else of any one this side Trent. Simon de Lindone held the manor of Eston of the king in chief, but because it is in co. Northampton the jury know not by what service, nor the value. Heir as last above.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. and extent, 20 Oct. 26 Edw. I.
	Eston by Staunford. The manor (extent given), including a park and a grove, a tall wood in the forest of Clyve, and a fishery in the water of Welond, was held by Simon de Lyndon of the king in chief, at the time when he thereof enfeoffed the king’s consort aforesaid, by service of 2 knights’ fees. Simon de Bokeministre and John Talbot and Alice his wife held certain lands &c. in Little Castreton, co. Rutland, in parcenary, of the said Simon de Lyndon as of the manor aforesaid, doing service for 1/3 knight’s fee, and suit every 3 weeks at the court of the said manor.

DERBY.	Extent, Thursday after St. Barnabas, 26 Edw. I.
	Sandiacre. A capital messuage, 15 bovates of land with meadow, a holm called Ourneholm, plots of meadow called ‘le Formedewe’ and Flitholm, a ‘grove’ called West Snapes, and 42s. assised rent, held of the king in chief by service of rendering 33s. 4d., and 17s. 4d. to the sheriff of Nottingham; a plot of land called ‘le Coningere,’ 10 bovates of land with meadow, and a plot of pasture called Doddisholm, held of Henry de Grey by service of 1oz. of silk yearly; 8 bovates of land with meadow held of the heirs of Simon Baret rendering them 12d. yearly; a water-mill, and a ‘holm’ with willows called ‘le Mulneholm,’ held of the heirs of William de Saundeby rendering to them 6d. yearly; 2 bovates of land without meadow but with a ‘holm’ beneath the orchard of the capital messuage, held of Geoffrey de Sandiacre rendering him 1d. yearly; and 13s. 4d. yearly perquisites of court. Richard, son of William son of Richard de Grey, now aged 11, is next heir.

NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. 1 Sept. 26 Edw. I.
	Hickelyng. A villein holding in villenage a messuage and a bovate of land, rendering to the said Richard 10s. yearly, held of Richard Foliot by service of doing suit for him at the court of the earl of Lincoln at Plumtre every three weeks; and he had a warren in the field of Hickelyng, worth 12d. yearly. Richard, son of William son of the said Richard le Grey, aged 10 at the feast of the Annunciation last, is his next heir.

NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. Tuesday the morrow of the Purification, 27 Edw. I.
	Harestan. The manor (extent given with names of tenants), including a messuage and 2 carucates of land in Knypton held by William Avenel rendering 2s. 6d. yearly, held of Sir Thomas de Lancastria by service of a knight’s fee, and 10s. rent, (viz.?) 10s. rent resolute for the guard of the castle of Lancaster. He held no other lands &c. this side Trent. William (sic) son of William de Grey, aged 10 at the feast of the Annunciation in March, 26 Edw. I. is next heir of the said Richard.
	Writ (ad melius inquirendum), no mention being made in the foregoing inquisition (Derby), by what service the said Richard held of the king in chief, or whether or not he rendered to the sheriff as the king’s sheriff and to the other sheriffs for the time being 18s. (sic) 4d. yearly for the guard of the said castle or otherwise, 9 July, 26 Edw. I.
DERBY.	Inq. taken at Derby on Thursday after the Assumption, 26 Edw. I.
	Saundiacre. A capital messuage and 15 bovates of land with meadow, were held by the said Richard of the king in chief rendering thence 33s. 4d. at the king’s exchequer, and to the sheriff of Nottingham 17s. 4d.; because one Richard de Saundiacre held the said tenement, and divers other tenements which others hold in Saundiacre, by service of carrying and keeping two goshawks at the king’s will; and he alienated the said tenements to divers men without the king’s licence, wherefore the king took the same into his hand, and arrented the same at 17s. 4d. which was assigned to the sheriffs of Nottingham and Derby for the time being towards the farm which they pay at the king’s exchequer, and not for the guard of the castle of Nottingham; and 2 1/2 marks used to be paid by the hands of Richard de Grey and his ancestors at the king’s exchequer from that time for the tenements aforesaid and no other services were done for them; he also held a ‘holm’ called Ornholm &c., as above, of the king in chief by the service abovesaid; a plot called ‘le Coningere’ &c. as above, of Henry de Grey, as above; and lands &c. of the heirs of Simon Baret and William de Sawndeby, and of Geoffrey de Saundiacre, as above. Heir as first above. Endorsed: Let the abovesaid arrenting be enquired into…….. Afterwards in the king’s parliament at Lincoln on the octave of St. Hilary, 29 (Edw. I.) it was answered that because it was found by inquisition that those tenements which Richard Sandiacre sometime held by serjeanty, are arrented by the king at a fixed farm to the ancestors of Richard de Grei as to a stranger (persone extranee), the serjeanty is changed into socage, wherefore let the king’s hand be removed from the lands &c. which the said Richard held of Henry de Grei by knight’s service, and let the issues thereof from the time of their taking into the king’s hand be restored to him. In the same manner let it be done concerning the lands &c. which the said Richard held of the earl of Lancaster. Petition to the king and council from Henry de Grei, that the king would remove his hand from the lands which Sir Richard de Grei held of him by knight’s service in Sandiacre, co. Derby, which the escheator has seized into the king’s hand by reason of the nonage of Richard, kinsman and heir of the said Richard, because he held in the same town other lands in chief of the king by certain services to which no wardship pertains. 	Benyfeld. The manor (extent given), including an old castle, and a wood in the forest called Banho, held of the king in chief by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. Benyfeld. 160a. arable, 30a. meadow, a tenant rendering a bow one year, and a brachet, two arrows, and four lanners (layner’) another year, and 10 bondmen each rendering 4s. 1 1/2d. yearly and doing divers works. Southwyk. 70a. arable and 50s. yearly rent of bondmen. Cotherstok. 2 water-mills. Benyfeld, Lyveden, Cotherstok, Stibinton and Southwyk. 100s. 2d. yearly rent of free tenants. Pleas, &c. worth 6s. 8d. yearly. All held of the abbot of Peterborough by service of 4 knight’s fees. Abyndon without Northampton. The manor (full extent given) held of the king in chief by service 1/2 knight’s fee; and 6s. 8d. rent are paid out to the nuns of St. Mary Pré (de Pratis) without Northampton. Humphrey his son, aged 23 and more, is his next heir.
	Writ of plenius certiorari on the complaint of Mary late the wife of the said Humphrey that the manor of Abyndon, whereof she was enfeoffed jointly with the said Humphrey, had been taken into the king’s hand upon his death, 24 March, 26 Edw. I.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. made at Northampton, 9 April, 26 Edw. I.
	Abyndon. The manor (extent given) held as above, whereof the said Humphrey and Mary were jointly enfeoffed by Humphrey, father of the said Humphrey, twenty years and more ago, as appears by inspection of a charter of feoffment and of a fine levied in the king’s court, made to them and the heirs of the said Humphrey, for which gift the said Humphrey and Mary gave to Humphrey the father 60 marks in hand; and the said Mary continued her seisin to the day of her husband’s death.

	Oreford. The whole town with the castle (extent given), including a water-mill and wind-mill, toll of the market and harbour, rents, customs called Bourgage &c., wreck of the sea &c. held of the king for life by exchange for . .l. rent which he ought to receive for life from mill and other rents at Tykehel. Wykes. The whole soke together with sheriff’s turn and leets which were of the honour of Richemond, viz.—8l. 4d. assised rents of free tenants to be received yearly from the bailiffs of Ipswich and divers other tenants in Wykes, 48 hens, and pleas &c. of court, held of the king in chief of his gift by service of 1/4 knight’s fee. Bradefeld, Ufford, Dalingho, Rendlesham and Wodebregg. A certain homage, viz.—4l. assised rent of free tenants, and 5l. 2 1/2d. rent from customers, and a wind-mill, with the advowson of the church of Ufford and the chapel of Sogeho, held of the bishop of Ely by service of 1 1/2 knight’s fee. Melton. Two preserves (vivaria) held of the heirs of Gilbert Peche by service of a clove gillyflower; and 2a. pasture held of Hugh Haldelond by service of a clove gillyflower. Ufford. The manor (extent given) held of Sir Roger le Bygod, earl of Norfolk and Marshal of England, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. [YORK.]	Inq. Monday after St. Wilfrid the Bishop, 26 Edw. I.
	Oustewyke. A messuage with 2 crofts adjacent, 9 bovates of land, a wind-mill, and tofts and lands (extent given with names of tenants), held of the king in chief as of the honour of Albemarle by foreign service; and 12a. land held of Amandus de Ruda by foreign service. Joan his daughter, aged 5 and more, is his next heir.
[YORK.]	Inq. Monday after St. Luke, 26 Edw. I.
	Scardeburgh. A capital messuage, 67a. arable, and many rents from houses &c. held in burgage or otherwise (extent given with names of tenants), held of the king in free burgage. The said John had all the tenements aforesaid by the bequest of Master Robert de Scardeburgh, his uncle, and on his death bed bequeathed the same to Avice his mother for her life, saving to Isabel his wife her dower in the same; and such is the custom of Scardeburgh that any tenant can bequeath his tenements there in his last days to anyone he pleases except to men of religion. And he rendered yearly for the said tenements to the burgesses of Scardeburgh, because they have the town at fee farm from the king, 27s. as ‘gabulage’ towards 66l. which they render yearly at the king’s exchequer for the farm of the town; and to the same burgesses 10s. towards 25l. which they render yearly at the king’s exchequer for the manor of Whal[ (fn. 1) esgrave], which they have similarly at fee farm from the king; and to the same burgesses [9s.] ….. escheat which Robert Uctred his grandfather arrented, which 9s. …… his pourparty at the king’s exchequer yearly; and to certain …….. 36s. 2d. yearly. Heir as above, aged 5 years.
[YORK.]	Inq. made at Bridlinton, on the day of St. Luke, 26 Edw. I.
	Oketon. The grange, viz.—a capital messuage and 30 bovates of land, held by the demise of the abbot of Meaux to the said John and Isabel his wife for life, service unspecified. He held nothing of the king in the wapentake of Dykering. Heir as above, aged 4 1/2 years.
YORK.	Inq. made at York on Wednesday after All Saints, 26 Edw. I.
	Gowthorp. The manor (extent given) held by the said John and Isabel, by the gift of John de Melsa, father of the said Isabel, in free marriage, of the archbishop of York by knight’s service, and doing suit at his court of Wylton every three weeks; 9a. land and 1a. meadow held, by the enfeoffment of Alexander de Gowthorp to him and his heirs, of John de Gray by knight’s service; and a plot of waste and 1/2a. land of the enfeoffment of Robert son of Alice to him and his heirs, and 2a. land of the enfeoffment of Thomas son of Alix’ (? Alexander) and John Hereward, held of the said archbishop by knight’s service. Yolthorp. A bovate of land held of William de Autri and 40s. yearly rent from 3 bovates held of Robert Tailor (Cissor’), which lands are of the fee of the barony of Skerkenbek. Wilton. Two bovates of land and 2 cottages held of the archbishop aforesaid by service of 1d. Ful Sutton. 3a. land and 2 cottages held of William de Autri by knight’s service. Heir as above, aged 5 years.

YORK.	Inq. Sunday after the Epiphany, 26 Edw. I.
	Hovingham in the wapentake of Ridal. The manor (extent given), including 26s. 8d. yearly from the Abbot of Rivaulx, and a court called Hallemote, held of the king in chief by homage, and suits at the county (court) of York every six weeks, at the trithing (court) of the Northriding once a year, and at one wapentake of Ridal. John his son, aged 11 on the day of the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 25 Edw. I, is his next heir.
YORK.	Inq. Wednesday after St. Hilary, 26 Edw. I.
	Kyrkebymalsard. The manor (extent given), including pastures called Varrenna and Staynemore, and pasturage (agistamentum) in Scheldone and Grantelay, held of the king in chief of the barony of Tresk, doing suit at all the county (courts) of York yearly, and doing to the king homage and foreign service and 5 barded horses in the king’s war, for the said barony and all (his) other lands. Heir as above, aged 12 and more.
YORK.	Inq. the day of St. Hilary, 26 Edw. I.
	Thresk. The manor (extent given), including pannage in the park and from the borough called ‘Thystelthack,’ 20s. for pasturage on the moor, a plot called Castelsted, 2 mills, a bakery with toll of the market and pleas of the borough worth 44l., whereof John de Creppinges and William de Brakenb’ receive 6l. 13s. 4d. and Philip Bretoun 20s. yearly from ancient time, and Thomas de Colevile receives 13l. 6s. 8d. and John de Blaby 10l. yearly of the gift of the said Roger, held of the king in chief in barony by homage and foreign service, and doing suits at the county (courts) of York yearly, and at the Riding (courts) of Yarlestre, Craykehogh and Wyndeiates once a year. 	Burton in Lonesdale. The manor (extent given), including three little assarts upon Aldeburton and Burton Wra, plots by Bounebeck, a meadow called Langestayemyre, a vaccary called Apeltrechnay (?), a free court and another court of villeins (?) &c. held of the king in chief, as member of the barony of Thresk, by service of doing suit at the king’s wapentake of Youcros every three weeks, and rendering 46s. 8d. yearly for his free tenants for wapentake fine to the king, to the sheriff of York or his bailiff of Youcros. And he gave by charter to John de Crepinges and his heirs 20 ‘rodales’ of land of the said manor, each worth 6s. 8d. yearly, and a plot of land called ‘Kenilbouttes’ (?); to Nicholas de Youckeflet and his heirs 10 ‘rodales’ and a plot of land and a vaccary; and to John de Rypoun and his heirs a culture of land upon Ulfesbergh containing 15a., and 6a. meadow, for which the said John used to render 11s. 3d. (?) yearly. Heir as above, aged 12 and more at the feast of the Assumption, 25 Edw. I.

LINCOLN.	Extent Saturday the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle, 26 Edw. I.
	Eppeworth. The manor with its members in the Isle of Haxiholm, viz.—Belton, Haxeie, Ouston and Ferie (extents given), including windmills at Waythale and Buttrewyck, and a custom called ‘Yolbreweng,’ held of the king in chief as of the crown, as a member of the barony of Tresk; and he rendered 8s. yearly for sheriff’s aid, and there are two foresters of fee who receive yearly an allowance and two robes, worth together 66s. 8d. yearly. Heir as above, aged 11 at the feast of St. Cuthbert last.
[LEICESTER.]	Inq. (undated).
	Melton Moubray. A messuage with 7 1/2 virgates of land, a pasture, 4l. 10s. 9d. assised rent of free tenants, 30s. assised rent from 2 bondmen, and 11s. 4 1/2d. from cottars yearly, held of the king in chief, service unspecified. Heir as above, aged 13 at the feast of the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 25 Edw. I.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. made at Northampton on Tuesday after St. Lucy, 26 Edw. I.
	Crek. A capital messuage, 96a. arable, 3a. meadow, 4s. rent of free tenants, 8l. yearly rent of bondmen, and pleas &c. of court, held of the king in chief as a member pertaining to the barony of Mounbray. Of the heir the jurors know nothing.
	Assignment of dower to Rose (Roisia) late the wife of the said Roger in the manor of Eppeworth with the townships and hamlets pertaining to the same in the Isle of Haxhiholm, by virtue of the king’s writ (recited) of 7 March, 26 Edw. I., viz.—a plot (placea) called Waithale, with a grange, oxhouse &c. built thereon, a windmill, a third part of lands and meadow, a wood called Methelwode with free chace and warren from the north head of Methelwode to Hecdike in length, and in breadth from the river Idle to the Trent; a third part of a rabbit warren; the townships of Ouston and Ferie with the hamlets of Gunthorp and Gidescarth, with the market and fair of Ferie, and rents, services and suits of freemen, villeins and cottars pertaining to those townships and in Haxeie (tenants named), a windmill at Westwode, a free court of all her tenants, and a third part of the profits of the said Roger’s waste lands in the Isle of Haxiholm.
	Writ to escheator to cause the chace of Nydderdale and certain woods there which were of the said Roger, to be extended, 19 July. 26 Edw. I.
YORK.	Inq. concerning the said chace and certain woods in the manor of Kirkebymalesard which have not yet been extended amongst the other lands &c. of the said Roger, Sunday after St. Peter ad Vincula, 26 Edw. I. viz.— The woods of Baggewych, Glumesker (?), and ‘le Bowfalle,’ with a lead mine worth 30s. yearly. Niderdale.
