	Frankeleye. The manor (extent given) held of John de Somery, who is in the king’s wardship, pertaining (spectans) to the barony of Doddeley, and by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and doing suit at the court of Doddeleye every three weeks, and at the county (court) of Worcester and the half county (court) of Wych. Nicholas her son, aged 28, is her next heir.

	Cateby. A messuage and 15a. land, held of the barony of Bayouse, which is in the king’s hand, by service of 1/5 knight’s fee, 16d. yearly to the manor of Kaylstorp a member of the barony aforesaid, and 8d. for sheriff’s aid, and there a rent of 16d. from free tenants; and a toft and 10a. land, held of the fee of Lancaster by service of 5d. yearly to the lord of the fee for guard. Walter his son, aged 30 and more, is his next heir.

	Seburgham. A messuage with garden, held of the king in chief rendering 12d. yearly; and 30a. land of ancient pourpresture, rendering 8s. yearly at the king’s exchequer. Soureby. 7a. land held of the bishop of Durham, rendering 3s. 6d. yearly. He had three sons by his first wife who have gone to parts across the seas, and whether they survive or not is unknown: he had a son Geoffrey by his second wife, aged 17, who claims hereditary succession, and is found in the inheritance.

Yesmewe. 2a. arable, 3a. wood, and 1lb. pepper for 16a. land held by Margery daughter of Laurence Swain. All held of the king in chief by service of 1/2 and 1/4 knight’s fee. He died on Sunday after the gule of August, viz. on the third day of that month. Emma de Stickelawe, his sister, aged 30, is his next heir.

ESSEX.	Inq. Friday after St. Barnabas, 26 Edw. I.
	Hatf(eld) Peverel. 67a. arable, 1 1/2a. meadow, 2a. pasture, and 2s. 11d. assised rent, held of the king in chief of the barony of the honour of Peverel, by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, paying 12d. yearly for sheriff’s aid and 1d. ‘wardpany,’ and owing suit at the court of the honour of Peverell every month and at the hundred of Wyham every three weeks; 24a. land held of Nicholas de Wokindone as of the fee of Neketone, paying 5s yearly; and 1a. pasture held of Roger le Gras, paying 12d. yearly. Richard le Lorimer, son and heir of Alice de Bennflet, who was sister of the said John, is his next heir and of full age.
	Writ of plenius certiorari to the escheator on the petition of Richard le Lorimer, showing that the abovesaid John his uncle, sometime before his death demised certain lands &c. which he held of king Henry III in chief in Hatfeld Peverel to Philip Basset and Ela his wife for their lives with reversion to his own heirs, and praying justice as the said Philip and Ela have gone the way of all flesh, and he is next heir of the said John, and of full age, 10 July, 26 Edw. I.
ESSEX.	Inq. Monday after the Ascension, 26 Edw. I.
	Hatfeld Peverel. John de Bemflet four years before he died held of king Henry III a messuage, 60a. arable, 1 1/2a. meadow, 1a. pasture, and 2s. 11d. assised rent in Hatfeld Peverel, of Nicholas de Wokingdon 24a. arable there, and of Roger le Gras 1a. pasture; which he gave to the abovesaid Philip and Ela without the king’s licence in 51 Hen. III. to hold for their lives, with reversion to the said John and his heirs. The said John died in 6 Edw. I, Philip in 53 Hen. III, and Ela in 26 Edw. I. before Easter; after whose death the said lands &c. were taken into the king’s hand by the sheriff by the king’s writ and again by the escheator. And there ought to be paid thence 13d. for sheriff’s aid, and 5s. to Nicholas de Wokindon. Heir as above, aged 30.

Twenty-five tenants holding 15 messuages and 33 1/2 bovates of land (extent given with names of tenants), and in ….. a windmill. All (?) held of the king, as of the honour of Tykehull, now in the king’s hand by reason of the lands &c. of Constance de Berne [alias de Biern], for 1 knight’s fee …… castle 10s., for food of watchmen 8d., for sheriff’s aid 4s., for common fine 2s. 8d. …… of Saxendal every three weeks. [ (fn. 2) His sisters,] Joan the firstborn married to Roger de [*Skerington, Isabel] married to Ranulph Moryn, and they have issue, and Aleysia the younger married to William Moryn, and they have issue, are his next heirs and all of full age.

CUMBERLAND.	Inq. made at Carlisle on Tuesday before St. Barnabas, 26 Edw. I.
	Ughtreset. A capital messuage, 94a. land, 10a. meadow, 5 tenants holding 10 bovates of land with 5 messuages, 13a. land held by cottars, a meadow with a pasture let to farm for 5s. yearly, and a water-mill, held of the king in chief, by reason of the lands of Cokirmu which were of the countess of Albemarle, of her manor of Cokirmu, rendering 8d. yearly for cornage, doing suit at the court of the said manor every three weeks, and owing food (pusturam) of foresters, land serjeants (landsergantorum), and serjeants (serviencium) of the king. Arkelby. A moiety of the hamlet held of Ralph de Eyncurt, rendering 18d. yearly to him, and to John de Plumland 9s. yearly for mill toll (multura) of the said moiety. John his son, aged 8 3/4, is his next heir.
	Writ (ad melius inquirendum), the above inquisition making no mention whether the lands of Cokermuth are in the king’s hand, nor of the quantity of land in the moiety of the hamlet of Arkelby, nor whether it was held of John de Plumland by service of the said 9s. or not, 21 June, 26 Edw. I.
CUMBERLAND.	Inq. made at Carlisle on Monday the morrow of St. Margaret, 26 Edw. I.
	Ughtreset. The hamlet (extent given as above) held of the king in chief of the manor of Cokirmu, which was of the countess of Albemarle and is now in the king’s hand, rendering 16d. for cornage, and 8d. yearly rent to the said manor, doing suit as above, and owing food for the serjeants of Cokermu. Arkelby. A moiety of the hamlet, viz.—114a. land held of Ralph de Eyncurte rendering him 18d. yearly, and to John de Plumland 9s. yearly for mill toll of the said land, and 2s. 3d. yearly for cornage for the said land. Furmeryfeld. 67a. land called Furmeryfeld, extended above in the demesnes of Ughtreset, were held jointly by the said Bertin and Joan his wife of the manor of Cokirmu.
	Writ of dedimus potestatem to William de Carleton, to receive the fealty of Joan late the wife of the said Bertin concerning the abovesaid 67a. land in Furmerifeld which she ought to hold of the king for life, and to take her oath not to marry without the king’s licence, 21 Nov. 27 Edw. I.
	Endorsed: That on Thursday before St. Andrew the said Joan made her fealty and oath accordingly.

A capital messuage, 80a. arable, 7a. meadow, 40d. rent in a certain wind-mill, 3 bondages containing a messuage and 30a. land each, a cottage lying waste, 10d. rent of the service of Emma her daughter for a carucate of land, 2 roses of the service of Robert de Ryhille for 60a. land, 4 3/4d. rent of the service of Hugh de Pampedene for a carucate of land, 1lb. pepper of the service of Nicholas Freman for 24a. land, and a rose of the service of Nicholas Freman for 24a. land, and a rose of the service of John de Midelton for 30a. land, in the same town. Jesemue. 55a. arable, 3a. meadow, a close, 16 1/2d. yearly of the service of Thomas de Carliolo for his tenement, 13s. 4d. yearly from the water-mill, 1lb. cummin of the service of Robert de Ryhille for his tenement, and a root of ginger of the service of Robert de Ryhille for the manor of Heton. KENT.	Inq. Thursday before Whitsunday, 26 Edw. I.
	Gravesende. The manor (extent given), held by the said Henry and Joan his wife for their lives, to them and to the heirs of the body of the said Henry, of the king in chief doing 21s. 8d. yearly for the guard of the castle of Dover, 2s. for sheriff’s turn, and suits at the sheriff’s turn twice yearly, at the king’s court of Ospringe every three weeks, and at the hundred of Toltintre every three weeks. He died without heir, and held no other tenements in the county.

ESSEX.	Inq. made at Maldone on Thursday the morrow of St. Barnabas, 26 Edw. I.
	Daneseie. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of the king in chief by service of a serjeanty at the castle of Dovere, rendering 10s. yearly for the guard of the said castle and suit at the king’s hundred of Danes[eye] every three weeks; and 30a. land held in demesne called Wrichteslond, held of the bishop of London by service of 4s. yearly. He had a sister named Ela, but whether she survives, and can claim to be next heir, or whether there is any other heir and of what age, is unknown to the jury.
	Writ to the sheriff of Suffolk, 10 May, 26 Edw. I.
SUFFOLK.	Inq. made by the steward of the liberty of St. Edmund’s at. Lavenham on Tuesday after St. John ante Portam Latinam, Edw. I.
	Neutone. The manor (extent given) held by the said Henry and Joan his wife, to them and the heirs of the body of the said Henry, by the grant of Laurence de Sancto Mauro by fine levied between them in the king’s court. The said Henry died without heir of his body, and the manor ought to remain to the said Joan for life with reversion to the heirs of the said Laurence: it was held by the said Henry and Joan of the manor of Gestnyngthorp, which was of Gilbert Pecche and is now in the hand of Guy Ferre by the king’s demise, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. He died on Saturday in Easter week in the year abovesaid. William de Braham, aged 50, is his next heir.
	Writ to the escheator, 12 June, 26 Edw. I.
KENT.	Inq. made at Tonebrigge on Tuesday before St. Peter ad Vincula, 26 Edw. I.
	Graveshende. The manor (extent given) held jointly by the said Henry and Joan of the king in chief by service of a serjeanty for (ad) the guard of the castle of Dover, rendering 26s. yearly for the said guard, and doing suit at the king’s court of Ofspryng every three weeks. The said Henry and Joan formerly before the justices of the bench acknowledged the manor to be the right of Thomas de Weylonde, who granted the same to them and the heirs of the body of the said Henry, with reversion to himself and his heirs. The said Joan survives, and the manor ought to remain to her for life, with reversion to the king by the felony of Thomas de Weylonde, because the said Henry died without heir of his body. He had no heir but the king.

ESSEX.	Inq. made at Chelmersford on Thursday before St. Laurence, 26 Edw. I.
	Daneseie. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief by service of a moiety of a serjeanty, doing 10s. yearly for the guard of the castle of Dovere. He held nothing of others in the county. William de Braham his kinsman, aged 30 and more, is his next heir.

KENT.	Inq. Thursday the eve of St. James, 26 Edw. I.
	Osprenge manor. 47a. arable, 4a. wood, 4s. 8d. assised rent, a cock, 12 hens, 78 eggs, and 4 chickens, held of the manor of Osprenge, which is in the king’s hand and is of the honour of Peverel by service of 1/8 knight’s fee, doing suit at the court of Osprenge every six weeks, and rendering 15d. every twenty weeks for the guard of the castle of Dover. Esling. A manor (extent given) including 4 ploughshares rent, held of Sir Alexander de Balliolo, of his manor of Chileham, by service of a knight’s fee, and owing suit at the same court every three weeks, and 52s. yearly for the guard of the castle of Dover, viz.—12d. a Week, and 2s. at the court of Chileham at the feast of the Gule of August. The said Ralph demised all the aforesaid tenements for 5 years to Richard de Deen, parson of the church of Esling, which term lasts until the feast of St. Andrew next. Alice his daughter, aged 34, is his next heir.

NORTHUMBERLAND.	Inq. made at Morpath on Wednesday after the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 26 Edw. I.
	West Chivyngton. A Capital messuage, 160a. arable, 29a. arable let to farm, 18a. arable lying waste, 8a. meadow, 60a. wood, 10 bondages each containing a house and 18a., 5 of which lie waste, 3 cottages, and the services of 2 tenants, held of the king in chief by service of two parts of a knight’s fee, rendering yearly two parts of 1 mark for the guard of the castle of Bamburgh, two parts of 14d. yearly for cornage, two parts of 20s. to the king for the farm of the forest of Chivinton, and two parts of 12d. yearly to the king for the fence month (pro mense vetito), and doing suit at the county (court) of Northumberland with John de Bulmer and Theophania his wife, co-parceners with the said Sibyl in West Chyvyngton. Morewyck. 60a. arable and 2a. meadow let to farm, 8 bondages each containing a messuage and 18a. arable, 5 cottages with 1a. arable each, and two parts of a water-mill and wind-mill, held of Sir Anthony Beke by service of two parts of 1/2 knight’s fee, and rendering two parts of 6s. 9d. yearly for the guard of the castle of Alnewyck, 15d. yearly for cornage of the barony of Alnewyck, and two parts of 12d. yearly farm of the fence month (mensis vetiti) due to the king, doing suit at the court of Alnewyck with her aforesaid co-parcener, and rendering to the king yearly for the farm of the forest 4s. 2d. due for the said tenements of Morewyck. She died on 26 July in the year aforesaid. Robert de Lumley her son, aged 26, is her next heir.
[NORTHUMBERLAND;] LIBERTY OF REDISDAL.	Inq. made at Ellisden by the bailiff of Redisdall in the presence of the sub-escheator on the morrow of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 26 Edw. I.
	Hodispeth. Two messuages, 24a. arable, 8a. meadow whereof a moiety lies waste, and 20 cottages with 5a. arable whereof one lies waste. Felyingg’. A culture called Felyingg’, containing two parts of a carucate of land lying waste. Lower Lem, held by Richard de Akedon of the said Sibyl in free marriage. (Unspecified.) A certain pasture of moor, wood and marsh, containing about 10,000a. land, which renders 10s. yearly. All held of Sir Gilbert de Umframvill in free marriage. Robert de Lomeley, aged 26, is her next heir.

	Sullyngton. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church. Bradebrugge. The manor (extent given), including 30s. at Brembelden, and 9qr. of salt at Bedynge. All held of Mary de Breuse for 2 knight’s fees, which were assigned to her in dower by the king with the assent of William de Breuse that now is, doing suit at the court of Brembre. Burgham. 16s. rent held of Sir William Auguylon. John his son, aged 12 at the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle in the year aforesaid, is his next heir.
[SURREY.]	Inq. Thursday after the Annunciation, 26 Edw. I.
	Chalfdone. The manor (extent given) held of James Haunsard for 2 knights’ fees, rendering him 1d. yearly, and doing to the chief lords of the fee, at the manor of Banstead 6s. yearly and suit at the court of the manor every three weeks for the said James and his heirs, and also rendering for them 24s. yearly for the guard of the castle of Rochester. Heir as above, aged 15. Endorsed: Let the king remove his hand; and because it was testified that the manor of Chalvedon was delivered to the earl of Cornwall, it was agreed that it should be taken again into the king’s hand, and afterwards let the escheator remove his hand.

	Saunton. Two bovates of land and 70s. rent from tenants of 8 bovates of land at the lord’s will, held of the king in chief by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, which lands &c. the king’s escheator immediately after the said Robert’s death took into the king’s hand and delivered to Edmund earl of Cornwall, by chirograph made between them. Clisseby. A toft, 3 bovates of land, 2a. meadow, and 6s. rent of free tenants, held for life by the demise of Richard Daumper, who held them of the king in chief by service of 1/20 knight’s fee. Osbert de Spaldyngton, aged 50 and more, is his next heir.

[NORFOLK.]	Inq. made at Refham on Wednesday the eve of the Ascension, 26 Edw. I.
	Qwytewell. The manor (extent given) held of the earl of Gloucester by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee. Great Massyngham. 33s. of rent seck yearly from lands which sometime were of Richard son of John. Skegeton. A messuage, 41a. arable, 2a. meadow, 10a. pasture, a moiety of the advowson of the church, 12a. heath, 36s. assised rent yearly, works, perquisites of court, 2 geese price 1 1/2d. each, and 24 hens price 1d. each, held of Fulk Baynard by service of 1/3 knight’s fee. Aylesham. 24a. land held of the manor of Aylesham, which is of the king’s ancient demesne, in socage by service of suit of court at the said manor every three weeks. He held nothing else of the king in chief. (Unspecified.) 7a. land held of the abbot of St. Benet’s, Hulm, by service of 3d. yearly. William his son, aged 14, is his next heir.
