DORSET.	Inq. taken at Blaneford, 23 July, 21 Richard II.
	He held the under-mentioned manors, rents etc. in his demesne as of fee. Caneford. The manor, with the borough of la Pole and the hundred of Cokeden, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. Puddelton. 20l. rent from the manor and hundred, which the prior of Christchurch Twynham holds at fee-farm, service unknown. Westulleworth. 20l. rent from the manor and hundred, which the abbot and convent of Bynedon hold at fee-farm, service unknown. Blakamore. The manor called Neweland with the wood of Blakamore, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. He died on 3 June last. John de Monte Acuto, knight, aged 40 years and more, son of John Mountague, brother of the said William late earl, is his heir.

SOMERSET.	Inq. taken at Yevelchestre, 19 July, 21 Richard II.
	By a fine levied in the octave of St Hilary, 17 Richard II, the said earl granted to William de Assheton and Robert de Whyteby, clerks, and Thomas de Skelton the under-mentioned hundred of Abbedyk and Bulston and manors of Cory Ryvell, Langport and Mertock (except 2 messuages, 3 mills and 1 1/2 virgates of land in Mertock). William de Assheton afterwards released all his claim to the said Robert and Thomas, who granted the premises to the said earl for life and afterwards granted the reversion by a fine levied in the king’s court to John Beauford, now earl of Somerset, and the heirs of his body with successive remainders to Thomas, brother of the said John Beauford, and the heirs of his body, to Joan de Ferrers, now lady de Nevile, sister of the said John and Thomas Beauford, and the heirs male of her body and to John duke of Aquitaine and Lancaster. He held the other under-mentioned manors etc. in his demesne as of fee. Abbedyk and Bulston. The hundred, held of the king. Cory Ryvell, Langport and Mertock. A messuage and a carucate of land, which were William Betevyle’s and afterwards John Forster’s, and a small grove called Shortwode in the hundred of Norton, held of Richard Stente, services unknown. SOMERSET.	Inq. taken at Yevelchestre, Monday before St Gregory the Pope, 22 Richard II (fn. 1).
	He did not die seised of the under-mentioned messuages, land and mills because in 14 Richard II he granted the premises in Bourehenton to his clerk, John Shorte, at a rent of a clove yearly; in 16 Richard II he granted the premises in Cote (by the name of all the tenements etc. that William Likkes (fn. 2) then held in Cote) to his clerk, Thomas Hobbes, for certain rents and in 19 Richard II released to the said Thomas all his right in the premises; and in 38 Edward III he granted the under-mentioned mills to Roland Rake. Bourehenton in the manor of Mertok. A messuage and half a virgate of land, held of the king in chief. Cote in the manor of Mertok. A messuage and a virgate of land, held of the king in chief. Mertok. Mills called Waltere Milles and Madynmille, held of the king in chief. He died on 3 June, 20 Richard II. The said John occupied the premises in Bourehenton from the time of the earl’s death until the feast of St Maur last, when the said John died and the escheator seized the premises into the king’s hand. The said William Hykkes held the premises in Cote of Thomas Hobbes at the time of the earl’s death and still occupies them. The said Roland occupied the mills at the time of the earl’s death and still occupies them.

	Writ, to deliver the lands etc. late of the said earl to John de Mountagu, knight, and John Brokeman, to whom the king granted the custody thereof on 10 June last by his letters patent, 19 June 20 Richard II.
LONDON.	Inq. 20 June, 20 Richard II.
	He held the under-mentioned inns etc. in his demesne as of fee. St Benet by Pouleswharf. An inn with a tenement, 2 shops, with solars above them annexed to the said inn, and another inn, held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city. Date of death and heir as above. The mayor took the premises into the king’s hand, as ordered in the writ, and afterwards delivered them to John de Mountagu and John Brokeman by virtue of another writ.

Cornwall. 200 marks yearly from the issues of the coinage of tin. Date of death and heir as above. The said John de Monte Acuto, aged 40 years and more, is his heir and heir male of the body of the said William the father.

	Being seised of the under-mentioned castle and town, he gave them, with the king’s licence, by the name of the castle and town of Mohaut, formerly of Robert Mohaut, late steward of Chester, except the advowson of the church, to Walter de Clopton, Richard Horn and Thomas Strete, who afterwards with the king’s licence gave them by deed to the said earl and Elizabeth his wife, who is still living, and the heirs of the said earl.
