	Writ, 12 February, 50 Edward III.
WARWICK.	Inq. taken at Warrewyk, Monday the feast of St. Matthew (recte Matthias), 50 Edward III.
	Hampton in Arderne. The manor, held of the heir of the lord de Moubray, a minor in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service. He had the rents and fruits of the manor to his own use. Dunchirche and Toft. A toft, a carucate of land and 100s. rent, held by knight’s service of the heir of John Talbot of Richards Castle, a minor in the king’s hand. Honyley. The manor, held of Thomas de Bello Campo, earl of Warrewyk, by knight’s service. Blakwell. A messuage, a carucate of land and 20a. wood, held of the prior of Kylingworth by service of 2s. yearly [by knight’s service] (fn. 1). Wormeleghton. A moiety of the manor, held of Thomas de Harcourte, services not known. Fennycompton. A messuage, a carucate of land and 60s. rent, held of the prior of Trentham by service of 40s. yearly, other services not known. He died on Wednesday after the Purification in the year aforesaid. John his son, a minor aged 15 years, is his heir.

279.	JOHN DE ROCHE, knight.
	Writ to the steward and treasurer of the county of Pembroke after the death of the said John, who held by knight’s service of the heir of John de Hastyngges, earl of Pembroke, a minor in the king’s wardship. 11 August, 50 Edward III.
PEMBROKE.	Inq. taken at le Dale before Thomas de Castro, steward of Pembroke, 26 September, 50 Edward III.
	Landyan. The manor, held of the king in free burgage by service of rendering 12d. yearly and doing suit to the hundred of Pembroke three times a year. Orbardeston. A messuage and 2 carucates of land, held of the king by knight’s service, rendering 1d. yearly, and by service of doing suit to the county of Pembroke every month. Mayncloughok. The castle (extent given), held of Nicholas de Audele, knight, [lord] of Kemeys, by service of doing suit to his court every fortnight. Dale. The manor, held of Sir Guy de Brien by service of doing suit to the court of Waynescastel &c. In his lifetime he gave it to Philip Broun and John Richard, chaplains, and their heirs. Frestrop. 2 1/2 bovates of land and 8a. pasture, held of the heirs of the baron of La Roche by knight’s service, rendering 1d. yearly; and a carucate of land, parcel of the lordship of Stakepol, held of the same heirs. There is half a carucate of wood and broom there. Reymerescastel. A yearly rent of 33s. 4d. Snelliston. 9a. land, held of David Robelin by service of rendering 2d. yearly. Marteltuy. 2 carucates of land, held of the lord de Carreu. Marteltuy is parcel of Stakepol, and the tenants of Stakepol do service &c. therefor. Kildeford by Landegome. 80a. land, held of Isabel late the wife of John Wogan, knight, by a rent of 1d. The deceased in his lifetime gave these to certain priests, namely, Philip Broun and John Richard. He died on Thursday after [the Nativity of] St. John the Baptist last. John his son, aged 8 years, is his heir.
	Writ to the steward of the lordship of Haverford or his lieutenant, 8 September, 50 Edward III.
[PEMBROKE.]	Inq. taken at Haverford, Wednesday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 50 Edward III, before Philip de Bolton, lieutenant of William de Skipwith, steward of the lordship of Haverford.
	Landecombe. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of its church, held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee. The extent includes 53s. 4d. rent of tenants called jabular’. Thoneriston. 4 bovates of land, held of the king in chief, service not known. Le Hull by the valley. 18a. land, held of the king in chief, service not known. They are held both by free tenants and by jabular’. Talbenny. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee. The extent includes lands held both by free tenants and by jabular’. Lambardeston. A parcel of land, including 21s. 6d. rent of free tenants, held by service of 15d. yearly of Margery daughter and heir of John Flemynge, a minor, the wardship of whose body is in the hands of the executors of Edward le Despenser, and the custody of whose lands in the lordship of Haverford is in the hands of the executors of the prince. 280.	JOHN SON OF EDWARD DE STOKKE.
	Writ, 8 October, 50 Edward III.
WILTS.	Inq. (indented) made at Marlebergh, 12 October, 50 Edward III.
	Stokke. A messuage and a carucate of land, held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. Bedewynde. A toft and 40a. land, held of the earl of Stafford by a yearly rent of 5s. 6d. and by rendering 10s. yearly to the parson of Bedewynde for the time being. He died on the feast of St. Bartholomew last. His next heirs are Margaret sister of the said Edward and wife of John Weston, aged 40 years and more, and Nicholas Danvers, chaplain, son and heir of Isabel Danvers, Edward’s other sister, aged 24 years and more. John Weston and Margaret have three sons and four daughters.

WILTS.	Inq. (indented) made at Devises, 16 October, 50 Edward III.
	Stokke and Westbedewynde. The lands &c. mentioned in the above inquisition came to the king’s hands by the death of the said Edward and by reason of the minority of John his son and heir.
BERKS.	Inq. (indented) made at Neubury, 15 October, 50 Edward III.
	The following lands &c. came to the king’s hands as above:— Langebrugg and Bekesgate. A messuage, a carucate of land containing 100a., and 5s. rent, held of Henry Husee, as of the manor of Staunden, by knight’s service and rents of 4s. and 1lb. pepper yearly, except 40a. land which are held of the duke of Lancaster by a yearly rent of 13s. 4d. 281.	JOHN DE RALEGH.
	Writ of precipimus, 28 April, 50 Edward III.
DEVON.	Inq. taken at Exeter, Tuesday the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 50 Edward III.
	Fytelcote in the tithing of Shirewell. A toft and a carucate of land, held of the deceased by John Beaumont, knight, by homage and fealty and service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee, and by a yearly rent of 6s. The deceased held them by homage and fealty and service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee of Eleanor and Joan, of full age, and Agnes and Agnes, minors in the king’s wardship, daughters and heirs of Richard de Merton, knight; and the said heirs hold them of the king in chief by the same service. Ralegh, Alryngton, and Choldecombe. The manors, held of Sir James de Audelegh by service of two knights’ fees. Elizabeth late the wife of the said John Ralegh, who was jointly enfeoffed with him, has had possession of the manors of Alryngton and Cholcomb since his death; and the said Sir James has had possession of the manor of Ralegh in the name of the wardship of the said John’s heir. He died on 1 January, 49 Edward III. Thomasia his daughter, aged 10 years and more, is his heir. Her marriage belongs to the king as a wardship under [a wardship] because the said John died while the heirs of Richard de Merton were minors in the king’s wardship.

SUFFOLK.	Inq. (indented) taken at Ipswich, Monday before St. George, 50 Edward III.
	Brendilleye. The manor, held jointly with Joan his wife, who survives, to them and the heirs of their bodies. It is held of the king, as of the honor of Helyoun, by service of 13s. 4d. yearly. He died on 16 October last. Joan, aged 12 years, Margaret, aged 5 years, and Isabel, aged half a year, daughters of the said Ralph and Joan, are their next heirs.

	Writ after the death of the said Robert, who held by knight’s service of the heir of Laurence de Hastynges, late earl of Pembroke, a minor in the king’s wardship. 4 March, 50 Edward III.
SALOP AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES.	Inq. taken at Shrewsbury, 26 September, 50 Edward III.
	He held no lands &c. of the said heir in this county and march; but he held the following:— Armegrove. The manor, held jointly with Joan his wife, who survives, of the abbot of Lilleshull by knight’s service. Stepulton. The manor, estate and tenure not known. He died on 15 October last. John his son, aged 5 years on 26 December last, is his next heir in blood.

	Normanton ‘othe Heth’. The manor, held of the heir of the earl of Pembroke, a minor in the king’s wardship, as of the fee of Hastynges, by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. The value consists entirely of rents of tenants. He died on 18 October last. John his son, aged 5 years and more, is his heir.

	Normanton on Heth. 20d. rent from the tenement lately held freely by Roger de Greseleye, with a third part of all the other services of the said tenement; a third part of all the services to be done by John Talbot, knight, for his free tenement, other than rent; and the following bond tenants, namely, John Knyth, who renders 29s. 4d. yearly, Thomas Bateson, who renders 53s. 4d., Richard de Hulle, who renders 26s. 1d., John Savage, who renders 25s. 7d., Robert Hancokson, who renders 27s., and John Herdeman, who renders 2s.

284.	LETTICE LATE THE WIFE OF WlLLIAM SEYNCLERE.
	Writ of precipimus, 16 November, 50 Edward III.
SOMERSET.	Inq. (indented) taken at Crokkerne, the eve of the Epiphany, 50 Edward III.
	Estham. A messuage, a garden, a carucate of land, and the advowson of the chapel, held of Nicholas Seymour, as of his manor of Castelcari, by alienation of Hugh Tremur and Thomas Barri, chaplains, to the said William and Lettice and the heirs of their bodies, with successive remainders to John Sencler and the heirs of his body, to Ralph Sender and the heirs of his body, and to the right heirs of William. Nicholas Seymour, who held the aforesaid manor of the king in chief, died (day not known) leaving Richard his son a minor. Lettice died on Wednesday after Easter, 45 Edward III, John her son being then a minor. The said John is son and next heir of her and William her husband, and was 21 years of age and more at the feast of St. Denis last. Ralph Sencler had possession of the premises from the time of her death until John Sender of Baunton took them at a yearly rent of 40s. by virtue of the king’s letters patent and by reason of the minority of the said John son of William. Nicholas Seymour, lord of the manor of Castelcari and father of Richard the present lord, sold the marriage of John son of William to John Bere of Hunsham on this pretext, that Ivo de Carleton and Agnes his wife, who held 2 1/2a. land for her life of the said William at the time of his death as parcel of the premises and belonging thereto, did not attorn to the chaplains aforesaid by virtue of the alienation made to the latter by William; so that Nicholas had the marriage by pretext of this non-attornment, because William died his tenant of the said 2 1/2a.

	Writ of precipimus touching the lands of the said John, who held by knight’s service of the heir of John de Longvillers, late a minor in the king’s wardship. 15 March, 50 Edward III.
NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. (indented) taken at Wellawe, Wednesday before St. Cuthbert, 50 Edward III.
	Averham. A third part of the manor (extent given), held by knight’s service of the heir of John de Longvilers, as of the manor of Tuxforth, which is held of the king in chief. Kirtlyngton. A messuage and 10 marks rent, held of John Pygot, knight, in socage, by service of 1d. rent. Northclifton. A messuage, and 4l. yearly rent in Northclifton and Herdeby, held of the same John in socage, by service of 1d. rent. Keworth. 2 bovates of land, held by Roger Belers, knight, service not known. He died on Wednesday before Michaelmas, 44 Edward III. Roland his son, aged 21 1/2 years, is his heir. The said heir was married on Wednesday after St. Peter’s Chains, 47 Edward III. Roger Belers, knight, seized his person and sold the marriage of him to Robert Burges of Melton, who sold it to Henry Asty, who married him. Richard de Bercotes had possession of the third part of the manor aforesaid and received the profits thereof for 4 years with the assent and by the grant of Robert Burgeys of Melton; and Henry Asty had possession of the said two-thirds (sic) for 2 years, and received the profits thereof, because he bought the said heir and the marriage from the said Robert. Richard Bercotes had possession of a third part of the said rent in Kirtlyngton for 4 years; Robert Burgeys had possession of two-thirds thereof for 4 years; and Henry Asty had possession of the said two-thirds for 2 years for the above cause. The rent of Northclifton, Herdby and Keworth was in the possession of the same persons for the same periods.

	Breydesale. A moiety of the manor (extent given), held for life by gift of John de Ferreres, knight, the reversion belonging to Robert son and heir of the said John, a minor in the king’s wardship. It is held of John duke of Lancaster, as of the honor of Tutbury, by knight’s service. She died on Thursday after the Conversion of St. Paul last. Heir not known.

	Writ of precipimus, 30 January, 50 Edward III.
LONDON.	Inq. (indented) taken before the mayor, 15 February, 50 Edward III.
	He died in 6 Edward II, day not known, seised of:— Parish of St. Mary of Wolcherchehawe. A capital tenement on Walbrok, with 2 shops annexed thereto on the east side in Bokeleresbury, now held by Elizabeth ……, title not known; 2 shops in Bokeleresbury next the said tenement on Walbrok on the west side, one held by Adam de Bury and the other by Agnes relict of Walter Forster, titles not known; 3 shops in the corner of Bokeler[esbury] by the said capital tenement, which are now a void plot held by the said Adam, title not known; and 2 shops, now held by the courtesy of England by Thomas atte Barnet, ‘mason,’ who married Katharine a kinswoman of the said Michael, and had children by her who are now dead. Parish of St. Mildred in the Poultry. 10 marks yearly quit-rent issuing from a tenement formerly belonging to Solomon Cotiller and now held by Agnes late the wife of Adam Fraunceys, formerly mayor of London, by what title the jurors know not. Parish of All Hallows, Bredstret. A tenement called ‘le Sarasyneshed,’ now held by John Folvill, by what title the jurors know not. Parish of St. Mary Magdalen, Milkstret. A booth (celda) with a solar above in Westchepe on the south side, now held by Agnes late the wife of Adam Fraunceys, by what title the jurors know not; and another booth, which is now a void place [called] ‘Brokenseld,’ tenant not known. Parish of St. Giles without Crepulgate. 12s. yearly quit-rent issuing from tenements in Redecrouchestret which formerly belonged to John Knyth and Walter Bredstret and are now held by William Dykeneswell, ‘plomer,’ John Brian, fishmonger, and John Hygyn. All the above are held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city of London. The said Michael has no heirs now surviving, so far as the jurors can find out among themselves.

288.	JOHN SON AND HEIR OF PHILIP VIRLY, a minor.
	Writ of devenerunt, 4 April, 50 Edward III.
ESSEX.	Inq. (indented) taken at Reylegh, 8 April, 50 Edward III.
	The following lands &c. came to the king’s hands by the death of the said Philip and by reason of the minority of John his son and heir:— Estwode. A messuage and 15a. land and wood, held of the king, as of the honor of Reylegh, by service of a fiftieth part of a knight’s fee, as parcel of a tenement called ‘Jakesfe.’ The said John died on Monday before Michaelmas last. Joan daughter of Roger Virly, Philip’s brother, is his next heir. She is 30 years of age and is married to John Russell, by whom she has issue. Since Philip’s death the escheators have had possession of two-thirds of the premises and have answered for the issues thereof at the Exchequer. Isolda late the wife of the said Philip has had posesssion of a third part thereof by way of dower. Philip died about Michaelmas, 39 Edward III.

NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Wirksop, Wednesday before St. Margaret, 50 Edward III.
	Clipston. A toft and a bovate of land, held of the king in socage. He died on the eve of Whitsunday in the above year. John his brother, of full age, is his next heir.

290.	JOHN DE WESTLE.
	Writ of precipimus, 12 July, 50 Edward III.
NORFOLK.	Inq. (indented) taken at Norwich, Monday, Michaelmas day, 50 Edward III.
	Ormesby. A fourth part of the manor called ‘Kyngeshalle,’ held for life by the courtesy of England after the death of Burgia his wife, the reversion belonging to Thomas de Westle, his son by the said Burgia. The manor has from time immemorial been ancient demesne of the crown, and is held of the king by a fee-farm of 16l., which farm was assigned by the king’s progenitors to the earl of Kent and his heirs. Accordingly the ancestors of the said Thomas paid it to the last earl, and after his death to the countess of Kent as his heir, and later to the prince of Wales in her name. Long before his death the said John demised the said fourth part to William Clere of Ormesby for 40 years at the farm aforesaid, reserving nothing to himself; and Thomas ratified the demise on the same terms. John died on Monday after Michaelmas, 48 Edward III. Elizabeth wife of Thomas de Nerford, knight, aged 30 years and more, Agnes Snecke, aged 40 years, and Alice daughter of Robert Derlyng, aged 24 years, kinswomen of the said Thomas de Westle, are next heirs to the premises. Ever since John’s death William Clere has had possession of the premises under the above demise.

DORSET.	Inq. taken at Warham, Saturday after St. Denis, 50 Edward III.
	Langeton Walisch in Purbike. The manor, held of the king by knight’s service. The manor, with the salt-works of Middelbere, is worth 12l. 4s. yearly. Robert, parson of Stoke, holds 18a. meadow, parcel of the manor, by service of a rose, by demise of the said Roger, without the king’s licence. John died on Friday before SS. Simon and Jude, 49 Edward III. Joan his daughter, aged 9 months, is his heir.

292.	JOHN DE WOLVERTON, knight.
	Writ of precipimus, 23 December, 50 Edward III.
BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Neuportpaynelle, 6 March, 51 Edward III.
	(Stained with gall and illegible in places.) Wolverton. The manor (extent given, including a fishery), ………. He died on Saturday before St. Boniface, 23 Edward III. He took to wife Joan daughter of Bartholomew Pecche, of whom he begot Joan, Constance, Cecily and Sarah. Hugh Wake took to wife the said Joan the younger, of whom he begot John Wake, now 36 years old and more. Richard Basyng took to wife the said Sarah, of whom he begot Adam Basyng, now 28 years old and more. The said Constance and Cecily died without heir. Afterwards Joan wife of the said John de Wolverton died, and he took to wife Joan late the wife of William Seintleuys, of whom he begot Margery, now aged 30 years, and Elizabeth, now aged 28 years. The said John Wake and Adam Basyng are coheirs of John de Wolverton with Margery and Elizabeth. Ever since the death of John de Wolverton one moiety of the manor has been in the possession of Ingram Hunte, Roger Louthe and Richard Butterley, late husbands of the said Margery, and of Margery herself while she was sole, and the other moiety has been in the possession of Leonard Bekeryng, Roger ‘of the’ Chaumbre and William de Cogenho, late husbands of the said Elizabeth, and of Elizabeth herself while she was sole, by what title the jurors know not.

293.	ELIZABETH AND ELEANOR, DAUGHTERS AND HEIRS OF JOHN DE WODHULL, knight.
	Writ of devenerunt, 30 January, 50 Edward III.
WILTS.	Inq. taken at Salisbury, 14 February, 50 Edward III.
	No lands &c. came to the king’s hands by the death of the said John and by reason of the minority of his said daughters and heirs, because he held the under-mentioned manors jointly with Isabel his wife in fee tail, with remainder to his right heirs, and the said Isabel is still alive. Great Durneford, Little Durneford and Tyderlegh. The manors, held of the earl of Salisbury, services not known, and charged with 12s. yearly in favour of the abbess of Wilton. Elizabeth died on Tuesday before Christmas last, and Eleanor on Monday after the Conversion of St. Paul last. Nicholas de Wodhull, aged 24 years and more, uncle of John their father, is their next heir.

NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Northampton, 22 February, 50 Edward III.
	Pateshull. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. On Palm Sunday, 39 Edward III, the said John by his writing indented enrolled in the Chancery granted the said manor (with other manors mentioned in the said writing) for 30 years to Thomas de Reynes and Laurence Papenham, knights, John Curteys and William Wodhill, to whom all the tenants, free and bond, attorned, On Wednesday in Easter week in the same year he released to them without the king’s licence all his right in the said manors. The said grantees continued their estate therein until Saturday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 41 Edward III, when the said John de Wodhill died; and after his death they likewise continued their estate until they were removed for the king’s behoof by colour of an inquisition post mortem taken by the escheator in 41 Edward III, whereby it was found that the said John died seised of the manor, of which inquisition the said grantees knew nothing whatever. Out of his seisin so acquired the king assigned a third part of the manor to Isabel wife of the said John as dower, and by his letters patent granted the custody of two-thirds thereof during the minority of the heirs, together with their marriage, to Richard Stury, knight, who granted the same to Gerard de Braybrok, the elder, knight, who had possession and took the profits until Eleanor’s death. This is how the manor came to the king’s hands and not otherwise; and no other lands &c. came to the king’s hands by the death of the said John and by reason of the minority of his heirs. Elizabeth died on 1 December last, and Eleanor on 26 January last, both being minors. Nicholas de Wodhull, aged 30 years and more, brother of John father of John de Wodhull their father, is their next heir in blood.

BEDFORD.	Inq. taken at Bedford, 28 February, 50 Edward III.
	Great Wodhill. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service and service of 51s. yearly for ward of the castle of Rokyngham. Langeford. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. Conveyance and release of the said manors by John de Wodhull, and subsequent seizure by the escheator, as above (last inquisition). Little Wodhill, Clifton, Stanford, Chelvyngton and Harewold. Long before his death the said John enfeoffed the above Thomas, Laurence, John Curteys and William de Wodhill, unconditionally, of all his other lands, meadows, feedings, pastures, woods, fisheries and rents and services of free and bond tenants in the said towns and elsewhere in the county, which are held of others than the king, to wit, of the lady de Wake, the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England, the abbot of Wardon, Gerard de Braybrok and others; and the said feoffees are still seised thereof. 294.	EDWARD PRINCE OF WALES &c.
WARWICK.	Inq. (indented) taken at Coventre, Tuesday after St. Margaret, 50 Edward III.

DERBY.	Inq. (indented) taken at Chesterfeld, Tuesday after the Annunciation, 50 Edward III.
	Palterton. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service. John Stygayn has had possession of two-thirds thereof by the king’s grant; and Cecily wife of the deceased has had possession of a third part thereof as dower. Staveley Wodthorp. Lands &c. held of Anker Frechvill in socage by a rent of 1d., and let at farm for 11 marks yearly, of which rent the said Cecily has had possession, by what title the jurors know not. He died beyond seas at the feast of the Nativity of St. Mary, 47 Edward III. John his son, aged 9 years and more, is his heir.
	Writ to the sheriff of Derby to warn the said Cecily to be before the king in the Chancery in the quinzaine of Trinity next to shew cause why she should not answer to the king for the rent in Stavley Wodthorp received by her since her husband’s death, and why the king should not receive the rent henceforth during the minority of the heir. 6 May, 50 Edward III.

	Writ of dedimus potestatem to the abbot of Wellebek to receive the attorneys of Ralph del Wode to sue out of the king’s hands certain tenements late of John Frechvill in Staveley Wodthorp, which are said to have been taken into the king’s hand by the escheator. 6 May, 50 Edward III.
	Endorsement: The abbot received as Ralph’s attorneys Gilbert de Sutton or William de Rodyngton. Letter of attorney by John Stygen to William Wightman and William Bool, clerk, in a plea before the king in the Chancery on a writ of scire facias between the said John and Cecily late the wife of John Fresshevill.
