	Writ of certiorari super vero valore, 8 May, 29 Edward III.
	Touching the lands &c. of the said Laurence in Cleyndon, co. Kent, which ought to pertain to the king by reason of the minority of the heir, a minor in the king’s wardship.
KENT.	Inq. taken at Derteford, Friday before St. Peter’s Chains, 29 Edward III.
	Cleyndon. A messuage, 80a. land and pasture, 4l. 12s. 7 1/2d. rent, 8s. 3d. annual farm from land held by Alexander de Helles of the demesnes of the manor of Cleyndon, and rents of two geese, 3 1/2 cocks, 30 hens and 68 1/2 eggs, held of the prior of Rochester, Otho de Grandissono, knight, the bishop of Rochester, the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England, and Robert de Bykenore by service of 54s.6 1/2d. yearly rent according to the custom of gavelkind.

	Glassanby. A third part of the manor held of the king in chief by homage, fealty and service of 4s. 5 1/4d. yearly for cornage. Bampton. A messuage and 26a. land held of the deceased by Walter del Flat by service of 8s. yearly, held of John de Bampton by service of 3s. yearly for cornage. He held no other lands &c. on the day he died. He died on the eve of All Saints, 28 Edward III. Joan his daughter, aged [six] weeks on the day of the taking of this inquisition, is his heir.

	Writ to enquire as to the land and heir of the said Laurence, 6 July, 29 Edward III.
HEREFORD.	Inq. taken in the castle of Hereford, Saturday after St. Katherine, 29 Edward III.
	Much Markele. A virgate of land, 100a. underwood, 4l. yearly rent of free tenants, held of the king in chief by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. He died on Saturday before St. Andrew, 27 Edward III. John de Lodelowe, knight, of full age, is his heir.

217.	NICHOLAS DE CANTELUPO.
	Writ, 1 September, 29 Edward III.
MIDDLESEX.	Inq. taken at Smethefeld, Saturday after St. Matthew, 29 Edward III.
	Colham, Woxebrigge and Eggeswere. The manors held for his life only by fine levied at York on the octave of the Purification, 12 Edward III, whereby Roger Lestraunge, knight, granted the reversion of the said manors, which Alesia, late the wife of Ebulo Lestraunge, held for life of the inheritance of the said Roger, to the said Nicholas, to hold for his life, with reversion to the said Roger and his heirs. The said Roger is dead and his son Roger, who survives, aged 24 years, is his heir. The manors of Colham and Woxebrigge are held of the prince of Wales, as of the honour of Wallingford, by service of a knight’s fee, and the manor of Eggeswere is held of the king in chief by fealty and service of 3s. yearly. He died on Friday before St. Peter’s Chains, Nicholas, son of William de Cantilupo, aged 13 years, is his kinsman and heir.

BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Denham, Monday before Michaelmas, 29 Edward III.
	Denham. Two water-mills, held of the abbot of Westminster by service of 2s. yearly for his life only, of the grant of Roger le Straunge, knight, by fine levied in the king’s court, with reversion to the grantor and his heirs. The said Roger is now dead and his son and heir, Roger le Straunge, knight, survives, and is 24 years of age and more. Date of death and heir as above.

BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Bukynham, Thursday after SS. Simon and Jude, 29 Edward III.
	He held no lands in demesne as of fee in the county. He died on Friday after St. James last. William his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Undele, Saturday before St. Matthew, 29 Edward III.
	Wadenho. The manor (extent given), including 2 water-mills with a fishery, and the advowson of the church there, held for his life only, by fine between him and Roger Lestraunge, knight, levied in the king’s court at York on the quinzaine of St. Martin, 11 Edward III, with reversion to the said Roger and his heirs. The said Roger is dead and his son Roger, as above, is his heir. The said manor and advowson are held of the honour of Winchester by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county. Date of death as above. Nicholas, son of William, son of the deceased, aged 13 years and more, is his heir.

LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Lincoln, Monday the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 29 Edward III. (fn. 1)
	Halton on Trent and Alkebarwe. The manors, with the advowsons of the chapel of the manor of Halton and of the church of Halton, by grant of Roger Lestraunge, knight, by fine levied between them in the king’s court, with reversion to the grantor Roger and his heirs. The said Roger is dead and Roger his son, as above, is his heir. The said manors are held of the prince as of the constabulary of Chester by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county. Date of death and heir as above.

LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Lincoln, Thursday before St. Martin, 29 Edward III.
	Croft, Burwell, Mukton, Calseby, Baumburgh, Elkyngton, Golthagh and Metheryngham. The manors, worth 800 marks a year, of which Joan late the wife of William de Kyme, knight, was seised for life, of the inheritance of Gilbert de Humframvill, earl of Angus, and held of the same earl by fealty. The deceased married the said Joan and so was seised of the said manors in right of his wife until his death. She survives. He held no other lands &c. on the day he died. He died on Friday before St. Peter’s Chains, 29 Edward III. William de Cantilupo, knight, his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Nottingham, Saturday before St. Martin, 29 Edward III.
	He held no lands &c. because, long before his death, he demised them to John de Lyseus, knight, Thomas de Novo Mercato, knight, and Hugh de Cressy and others. He died on Friday after St. Peter’s Chains last. William, son of Nicholas de Cantilupo, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.
DERBY.	Inq. taken at Sandiacre, Friday after All Saints, 29 Edward III.
	He held no lands &c. because, long before his death, he demised them to the aforesaid John, Thomas, Hugh &c. Date of death and heir as last above.

GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Gloucester, Friday in Whitsun week, 29 Edward III.
	Norton Underegge. The manor of Norton (extent given) held of the king in chief by knight’s service, and 9l. yearly rent. Weston. The manor (extent given, including an enclosed park) which was held in dower, of the inheritance of the deceased, by Joan late the wife of Thomas le Botiler, knight, his mother, who died on 12 May last. It is held of the king in chief by knight’s service. He held no more lands &c. in the county. He died on 30 November, 27 Edward III. Elizabeth his daughter, aged four years, is his heir.

YORK.	Inq. taken at York, 12 October, 29 Edward III.
	Thurgramby. A messuage and a bovate of land held of the king in chief by fealty and by service of rendering 18d. yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 30 April, 23 Edward III, in the great pestilence. Thomas Walkelyn his son, aged 18 years and more, is his heir.

220.	JOHN STURNELL or STORNELL.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John, 3 July, 29 Edward III.
WESTMORELAND.	Inq. taken at Appelby, Thursday after St. Laurence, 29 Edward III.
	Hottunroef. Two messuages, 37a. land, 4a. meadow, 40a. wood and a fourth part of 100a. moor and pasture held of the king by fealty and by service of 40d. yearly. He also paid 10d. yearly for two putures to the king’s bailiffs in the county, called ‘Serjauntfoed.’ The said services came into the king’s hand after the death of William de Coucy, of whom the deceased held the said lands &c. by the same services. He held no other lands &c. He died on the feast of St. John the Evangelist, 21 Edward III. William Stornell his brother, aged 23 years, is his heir.

	Writ to Thomas de Berkele of Coberle, escheator in co. Gloucester and the adjacent March of Wales, William de Leden, late escheator, to whom it was first sent, having died. 10 June, 29 Edward III.
GLOUCESTER AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES.	Inq. taken at Magor in the said March, Thursday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 29 Edward III.
	Redwyk in Magor. A third part of the messuage of the manor, 32a. land and pasture, 11s. 5 1/2d. yearly rent from bond tenants, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. She held no more lands &c. in the county and march. She died on 20 April, 29 Edward III. Joan, daughter of the said William and Alice, aged one year, is her heir.

	Hengham. A messuage and 18a. land held of the king in chief as parcel of the manor of Hardingham, which manor is held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee. He died on Monday after St. Margaret, 23 Edward III. Alice his daughter, aged 7 years and more, is his heir.

	Troston. A messuage and 12a. land held of the king in chief in socage by service of a silver farthing payable yearly at the castle of Norwich for blanch farm. He held no other lands &c. on the day he died. He died on 27 September, 28 Edward III. Nicholas his son, aged 10 years and more, is his heir.

	Beseby. A messuage, 20a. arable, 2a. meadow and 1a. pasture held of John de Welle, son and heir of Adam de Welle, a minor in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 21 Edward III. Hugh his son, aged 21 years before the feast of St. George last, is his heir. Dated at the end, 26 May. (The morrow of St. Dunstan is 20 May.)

A messuage, with 4a. land and meadow, held of the king in chief by service of a yearly farm of 4s. current in the Pipe, with which the sheriff is charged every year in the said Pipe; and 5a. land held of Robert de Bradeston, knight, by service of 12d. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county, so far as the jury can ascertain. He died on Monday before St. Mark, 23 Edward III. John Claydych, his son, aged 21 years and more, is his heir.

	Balsham. A manor called Oxecroft Halle (extent given) held for his life of the gift of the king; which manor came into the king’s hand by the forfeiture of Hugh le Despenser, and is held of the earl of Oxford by service of a knight’s fee and by rendering yearly to the ward of Richemund 10s. and for sheriff’s aid 18d., and by doing suit at the earl of Richemund’s court in Badburgham and by rendering yearly to the bishop of Ely and the heirs of William le Clerk 8d. He died on the eve of St. Michael last. Heir not known.

SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Fordyngbrygge, Monday the feast of SS. Peter and Paul, 29 Edward III.
	Rokebourn. The manor held jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives, for their lives, by fine levied in the king’s court, of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee, with remainders successively to John son of the said Margaret and the heirs of his body, and the right heirs of the said Margaret. He died on 24 April, 29 Edward III. Heir not known.

WILTS.	Inq. taken at Edyndon, Friday after St. Michael, 29 Edward III.
	Dulton. The manor and a messuage and a carucate of land in Bratton held of the king in chief by service of rendering yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff ten marks of grand serjeanty, but the nature of that serjeanty the jury know not. He held no other manors, lands &c. in the county. He died on Tuesday the morrow of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross last. William Dansey, his brother, aged 16 years, is his heir.

Cheyneston. 20a. land held of John Ragon by knight’s service. He died on 18 September, 29 Edward III. John his brother is his heir, age not known.

231.	ROBERT GUYEN of Bristol.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Robert, 10 July, 29 Edward III.
WORCESTER.	Inq. taken at Worcester, Wednesday before St. Michael, 29 Edward III.
	Worcester. Two messuages late of William de Pydeleswyke, which were delivered to the deceased for a term of fifty years by a statute merchant for a debt. The said messuages are held of John Rydewale and Thomas le Plomer by service of 18s. yearly. They are worth nothing, being ruinous, broken down and carried away since the said Robert’s death, by whom as yet the jury know not. Date of death and heir not known.

	Lech Turvill. A messuage with curtilage, three virgates of arable and 12d. yearly rent from a cottage held of William Comyn of Putteleye in chief, service not stated. He held no more lands &c. in the county. Stephen de Wydeslade, his son, aged 24 years, is his heir.

SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at New Alresford, Wednesday the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 29 Edward III.
	Lys Sturmy. A messuage and 80a. arable held of Henry Sturmy in chief by service of 20s. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday in Whitsun week last. Heir as above, aged 24 years and more.

SOMERSET.	Inq. taken at Frome, Monday before the Translation of St. Thomas, 29 Edward III.
	Frome, Radene and Merston Bygod. Seven messuages, 162a. land, 18a. meadow, 80a. pasture, 51a. wood, 16s. rent and a third part of a mill held to himself and Eleanor late his wife, also deceased, and the heirs of her body, of the gift of Andrew Braunche and Joan his wife by fine levied in the king’s court, of the king in chief by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee; which tenements ought by the said fine to descend to Stephen, son of the said Richard and Eleanor. He held no other lands &c. in the county, because a rent of 42s. 6 1/2d. which he held by the aforesaid fine, besides the above-mentioned rent, is extinguished by the death of the tenants and the ruin of the houses through the late pestilence. He died on Monday before the feast of St. Petronilla last. Heir as above.

233.	ELEANOR, DAUGHTER AND ONE OF THE HEIRS OF JOHN DE KNOVYLL.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Eleanor, 15 June, 29 Edward III.
GLOUCESTER AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES.	Inq. taken at Magor, Monday after SS. Peter and Paul, 29 Edward III.
	Redewyk in the aforesaid March. A third part of two thirds of a messuage, (the third part of the whole messuage being held by Alice late the wife of the said John, mother of the said Eleanor, in dower), 35a. land, 8a. pasture, and two free tenants and two bond tenants and a court of her said tenants held twice a year, held of her pourparty by inheritance after her father’s death of the king in chief by knight’s service. She held no other lands &c. in the said county and march. She died on 10 January, 20 Edward III. John Duyn, her son, aged 23 years, is her heir.

234.	REYNOLD ALARD or ALLARD.
	Writ, after the death of the said Reynold, who held by knight’s service of Thomas Passele, whose lands are in the king’s hand. 20 July, 29 Edward III.
SUSSEX.	Inq. taken at Gestlyng, Sunday the eve of St. Bartholomew, 29 Edward III.
	Farlegh. The deceased formerly held 20a. land of Thomas de Passele, knight, as of the manor of Frenshcourt, which is now in the king’s hand, by homage, scutage and ward of the castle of Hastyngges. These 20a. he gave to Nicholas Allard, who gave them afterwards to the deceased for life, with remainder to Stephen Allard and the heirs of his body, with further reversion to the said Nicholas and the heirs of his body. The said Reynold died seised of this land, and after his death the said Stephen entered upon it, and afterwards he died without heir of his body about the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross, 29 Edward III, whereby the said land reverted to John Allard, son and heir of the said Nicholas, and his heirs. Dolham. The manor held for his life, of the inheritance of John, son and heir of the aforesaid Nicholas, of John Goldyngham, knight, and John Warden the elder by knight’s service. He died on the eve of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 28 Edward III. That heir (heres ille) is 6 1/2 years of age.

NORTHUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at Baumburgh, Sunday before St. Martin in Yeme, 29 Edward III.
	Etale. The manor (extent given), including a fulling mill, with a messuage in the town of Hethepole, except two messuages and a carucate of land in the said manor, held of the king in chief by service of half a knight’s fee. Tossan. 26s. yearly rent from a carucate of land. Alnewyk. A burgage held of Sir Henry de Percy by service of 1 1/2d. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday the eve of St. Michael last. John his son, aged one year and three weeks, is his heir.

NORTHUMBERLAND.	Assignment of dower to Aline, late the wife of Robert du Maners, knight, made by John de Coupland, escheator, at Etale, Wednesday in Easter week, 30 Edward III.
	Etale. A third part of the manor, including a house called ‘Kilpyntour,’ a house called ‘le Maydenchaumbre’ and a house called ‘le Neustable,’ a brewhouse with the space of the Yathouse towards a chapel, which chapel is in common between the king and Aline, ‘le Bachousyard’ there except that the king has ingress and egress… …… . . at the time of baking (furnicionis) and brewing only, a close called ‘le Aldergrove,’ extending from the kitchen to the water of Tille as far as the water-mill of Etale, a barn called ‘le Mikelbern,’ and a third part of the ‘Bernyerd’; of the manor demesnes 120a. arable, 9a. meadow, 8 husbandlands (names of tenants given), seven cottages (names of tenants given), one of which is called ‘le Harperlond,’ a third part profits from the mill, the lime kilns and the mines of sea coal in the town and demesne of Etale, a third part of commons; a court of her own for her tenants and not one in common with the king, a third part of a messuage and of a waste croft in Hethpole, and of 26s. rent yearly from free tenants in Tossan.

	Compton Chamberleyn. A moiety of the manor, except 33s. 4d. rent therein, held jointly with Joan his wife, who survives, as of her inheritance, of the king in chief by knight’s service, viz. a moiety of a quarter of a knight’s fee. The said Joan is of full age, viz. 26 years and more. The deceased had no other estate in the said manor than as husband of the said Joan. Fontel Gyffard. A messuage and six bovates of land held as of the fee of John de Maundevill by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Saturday before the Purification last. Peter Mauduyt, his brother, aged 18 years and more, is his heir.

	Risgate and Braytoft. The manors held for her life of the gift of Edmund de Cressy, knight, Thomas de Neumarche, knight, Thomas de Roos, knight, Hugh de Wyttelsey, parson of a moiety of the church of Claypole, with remainder to John de Cressi and his heirs and assigns. The manor of Risgate is held of the king in chief for a certain fine of 40s. yearly and the manor of Braytoft of John de Welle by service of 2s. yearly. She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on Sunday the eve of St. Laurence last. John de Cressi, aged 17 years, is her heir.

	Stokeryvers and Ridelcomb. The manors, except 40a. wood in Ridelcomb, held for life of John, son and heir of Henry de Wilyngton, a minor in the king’s wardship, of the demise of the said Henry de Wilyngton. The manor of Stokeryvers is held of the said John, who holds it of Hugh Cortenay, earl of Devon, of the honour of Plympton. The manor of Ridelcomb is held of the said John, of his manor of Lomene, and the said John holds it of the heirs of Hugh le Despenser as of the honour of Gloucester. The deceased delivered to Isabel, relict of Henry de Wilyngton, the manor of Ridelcomb, together with 27s. yearly rent issuing from the manor of Stokeryvers, by way of dower, as her full dower of the manors aforesaid, because she was wife of the said Henry before the manors were given to the said Reynold; and after the said Isabel was seised of the dower aforesaid she gave it to Reynold for a yearly rent of 60s. He died on Friday the eve of St. Mark, 29 Edward III. The aforesaid John, son of Henry de Wilyngton, aged 14 years and more, is his heir.
DEVON.	Assignment of dower to Isabel, late the wife of Henry de Wilyngton, out of the lands held for life by Reynold de Wilyngton. Ridelcomb, Thursday before St. Hilary, 29 Edward III.
	Richard Hode, escheator, states that on Thursday before St. Nicholas, 29 Edward III, he received a writ (recited at length) de dote assignanda, dated 20 June, quoting the above inquisition, and directing him to assign dower to the said Isabel, and that he has assigned to her the whole manor of Rydelcomb as her full dower out of the premises. 	Wodeton. The manor (extent given, including a park with deer) held of the gift of William Latymer, knight, to the said Thomas and the heirs of his body, with reversion to the said William and his heirs, of the heir of Hugh le Despenser, a minor in the king’s wardship, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 4 October last without heir of his body, so that the said manor ought to revert to the said William, who is 26 years of age and more, as the jury understand.

Richard de Stapeldon, knight, holds for his life by the law of England, of the inheritance of the deceased, a third part of 2s. rent, with a third part of the advowson of the church of Milton Damarle, held of the said Hugh de Courtenay by service of fealty. She held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick. She died on 23 December, 28 Edward III. Joan, daughter of the said William and Alice, aged 1 1/2 years, is her heir.

The hamlet held of the heirs of John de Arondel by knight’s service. Estronyngton. The hamlet held of Richard de Wyndesore by knight’s service. Hywysshchamflour. A croft of land containing 6a. and 5s. rent held of Robert de Novo Burgo by knight’s service. He died on the feast of St. Michael last. The said Elizabeth died on 27 November last. 	Herlawe. He held the manor called ‘Brendhall’ in the town, but a year before his death he gave it to Agatha, daughter of David de Fletewyk, knight, the younger, for her life, with reversion to himself and his heirs. It is held of John de Insula, lord of Rougemont (de Rubio Monte), by knight’s service. He died on Saturday the feast of the Assumption last. David, son of the aforesaid David the younger, aged 6 years and more, is his heir.

	Hoggesthorp. A messuage, 4a. land, 2a. pasture, 2a. meadow held of the aforesaid heir by knight’s service and by rendering 2 1/2d. yearly. The said lands &c. have been in the king’s hand since the said Simon’s death and the issues thereof have been answered for to the king. He died on Tuesday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 23 Edward III. John his son, aged 22 years, is his heir.
