145.	WILLIAM DE HOLM JUXTA PAGHELL.
	Writ, 3 July, 28 Edward III.
YORK; LIBERTY OF HOLDERNESS.	Inq. taken at Hedon, Monday, 21 July, 28 Edward III.
	Paghelholm. A messuage and two parts of two bovates of land held jointly with Beatrice his wife, who survives, to them and the heirs of their bodies, and the third part of the said two bovates held in service of the king in chief as of the honour of Aumale, which is in the king’s hand by service of a hundred and ninetieth part of a knight’s fee and suit at the king’s wapentake of Holderness every three weeks. A free tenant holds the said third part by service of rendering a clove yearly. Paghell. A bovate of land held jointly, as above, of the heir of John le Conestable of Halsham by knight’s service. Ryhill. Two tofts and two bovates of land held of the heir of Thomas de Botheby by knight’s service, as of the manor of Ryhill which is held of Cecily, late the wife of John Paynell, by knight’s service. He died on 14 June last. Roger his son, aged 15 years, is his heir.

146.	ROGER DE HEITON or DE HEYTON.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Roger, 3 March, 28 Edward III.
MIDDLESEX.	Inq. taken at Westminster, Monday after St. John the Baptist, 28 Edward III.
	Westminster. A messuage held of the king in chief by service of 2d. yearly. It was worth 20s. yearly before the staples (stapule) were set up (errecte) and now 40s. yearly. He held no other tenements in the county. He died on 13 May, 23 Edward III, from which time until now Reynold de Rodlond has been in possession of the said messuage by gift of the king to him for life. Alice, aged 19 years and more, and Isabel, aged 18 years and more, daughters of the said Roger, are his heirs.

147.	WILLIAM LA ZOUCHE of Haryngworth.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said William, 26 September, 28 Edward III.
WORCESTER.	Inq. taken at Worcester, 20 October, 28 Edward III.
	Neubury. A virgate of land in the manor, held of the king in chief by service of a fifteenth part of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday the feast of St. Gregory, 26 Edward III. William la Zouche, knight, son of Ido la Zouche, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

148.	JOHN DE BARKEWORTH.
	Writ after the death of the said John, who held of the king in chief by the law of England, of the inheritance of Elizabeth late his wife. 26 April, 28 Edward III.
NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Tuxford, Tuesday after St. John before the Latin Gate, 28 Edward III.
	Tuxford. A messuage, 80a. land and 16a. meadow held of the king in chief, by the law of England, of the inheritance of Elizabeth his wife, service not specified; and 26s. rent similarly held of the king in chief by service of a ninth part of half a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Wednesday before Palm Sunday, 28 Edward III. John de Barkeworth, son of Robert de Barkeworth, son of the deceased, aged 21 1/2 years, is heir of the said John and Elizabeth.

149.	JOHN DE PAULESHEYE or POULESEYE.
	Writ to John de Alveton, escheator in Berks, 3 July, 28 Edward III.
BERKS.	Inq. taken at Abyndon, 13 July, 28 Edward III.
	West Wyttenam. A messuage and two carucates of land held for life, of the inheritance of John, son and heir of John Mautravers of Crowell, aged ten years and in the wardship of Sir Edward, prince of Wales, of Mary, countess Marshal of England, by service of a third part of a knight’s fee. He died on 21 March last.
	Writ of certiorari super causa capcionis touching lands in West Wittenham to Robert de Hadham, escheator of the king’s chamber. 4 July, 28 Edward III.
	Return by the escheator that he took the said lands &c. into the king’s hand because it was found by an inquisition ex officio (fn. 1) taken by him at Spene, co. Berks, on 4 June, 28 Edward III, that John de Paulesheye held in West Wittenham a messuage, two carucates of land, 12a. land and rents and services to the value of 100s. yearly for his life, of the inheritance of John Mautravers, a minor; which are all held of the king in chief as of two parts of the manor of Hampsted Maresschal, which is in the king’s hand and reserved to his chamber, by knight’s service and rent of 2s. yearly. BEDFORD.	Inq. taken at Bromham, Monday before Whitsunday, 28 Edward III.
	Bromham. A messuage, 1a. meadow, 16a. land and 8s. rent held of the king in chief by service of 12d. yearly. He held no more lands &c. in the bailiwick. He died on Monday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 27 Edward III. John atte March, aged 7 years, is his heir.

YORK; LIBERTY OF HOLDERNESS.	Inq. taken at Hedon, Thursday, 25 September, 28 Edward III.
	Neusom. A messuage and two bovates of land, except three acres, together with the reversion of a toft and of half an acre of land held for life by Simon Brokour by service of a rose, and of two acres of land held for life by Alice, late the wife of John Sotheren, by service of a rose, and a bovate of land in service held by Thomas Upiby by knight’s service, all held of the king in chief as of the honour of Aumale, which is in the king’s hand, by service of a hundred and twentieth part of a knight’s fee and suit at the king’s wapentake of Holderness every three weeks and rendering to the ward of the castle of Skipse 1d. yearly and for sheriff’s aid 1/2d. yearly; a bovate of land held of him by Thomas de Sancto Quintino by knight’s service, and the reversion of two acres of land held for life by the aforesaid Alice by service of a rose yearly, held of William Aldelot by knight’s service. He died on 25 April last. John his son, aged 19 years on 10 April last, is his heir.

STAFFORD.	Inq. Tuesday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 28 Edward III.
	Wednesbury. The manor held of the king in chief by service of rendering 21s. 8d. yearly. Tibynton. A fifth part of the manor held of Nicholas Burnell in chief by knight’s service and rendering 4s. yearly. He held nothing else. He died on 8 June last. John his son, aged 24 years and more, is his heir.

153.	MARGARET, LATE THE WIFE OF ROBERT DE WASSYNGLE.
	Writ, 1 October, 28 Edward III.
HUNTINGDON.	Inq. taken at St. Ives, 10 October, 28 Edward III.
	Wassyngle. 80a. arable, 9a. wood, 20s. and a capon yearly rent of free tenants, held jointly with Robert late her husband, by the feoffment of Henry de Chartres, parson of the church of Welle, and William de Adyngton, chaplain, to them and the heirs of their bodies, of the king in chief by service of rendering 20s. yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff, 18s. yearly to Philippa queen of England for her assart, and 3s. 1d. yearly to the king’s bailiff in the hundred of Norman Cross (de Normancro) for a service called ‘le hundredesyelde.’ She died on Wednesday after St. James last. Robert, son of Robert de Wassyngle, aged 15 years and more, is the heir of the said Margaret.

	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Robert, 23 October, 28 Edward III.
YORK; LIBERTY OF HOLDERNESS.	Inq. taken at Hedon, Monday, 17 November, 28 Edward III.
	Brandesburton. A messuage, seven tofts, four bovates of land and a wind-mill held of the heirs of Herbert de Sancto Quintino, minors in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service and by rendering 1lb. pepper yearly; three bovates of land held in demesne and one bovate held in service of Robert Surdevale by knight’s service. Holmeton. A bovate of land held in service of William Whytik by service of rendering 4d. yearly, which bovate a free tenant held of the deceased at a rent of 8d. yearly. Seton. Two shillings rent from a toft and half a bovate of land held by Richard Barun for life, together with the reversion of the toft and land after the said Richard’s death, held of Hugh Barun by knight’s service. He died on 20 August, 23 Edward III. Joan his daughter, aged 15 years at the feast of Holy Trinity last, is his heir.

LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Horncastre, Tuesday in Easter week, 28 Edward III.
	Clixby. A messuage and 3 1/2 bovates of land held of the king by service of a hood (unius capicii) for a falcon yearly. He died on Saturday after St. James, 23 Edward III. William Helward, his kinsman, aged 29 years and more, is his heir.

SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Wodecote by Bromden, Monday after St. John before the Latin Gate, 28 Edward III.
	Wodecote by Bromden. The manor and the office of keeper of the gaol of Winchester held jointly with Alesia his wife of the king in chief by service of keeping the said gaol. Bromden. A messuage, 6a. land, held jointly as above, of the prior of Selebourn by rendering yearly 1/2lb. cummin. Winchester. A messuage and a carucate of land held jointly as above, of the prior of St. Swithun’s, Winchester, by rendering to him yearly 32s. 10 3/4d., and to the lady of Inge for the said land 20s., and to the bailiffs of the city of Winchester 5s. Spersholt by Winchester. Half a messuage and a carucate of land held jointly as above, of the prior of St. Swithun’s by rendering yearly 36s. He held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick. He died on Sunday after St. Hilary, 27 Edward III. Valentine his son, aged 15 years on the feast of the Eleven Thousand Holy Virgins last, is his heir.

157.	JOHN DE MERFLET.
	Writ to Saier de Rocheford, escheator in co. Lincoln, to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John. 7 April, 28 Edward III.
LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Barton before John Gaunte and John de Elsham, parson of the church of Saxby, deputies of Saier de Rocheford, Friday in Easter week, 28 Edward III.
	Barton. A messuage and 1 1/2 bovates of land held of the abbot of Bardenay by service of 2s. yearly to him, 2s. to the heirs of John Rous and 16d. to the fee of Barvill; a cottage and 1 1/2 bovates of land held of the prior of Thornholm by service of rendering 15s. He died on Friday after St. Peter’s Chains, 23 Edward III. Hugh de Merflet, his son, and kinsman and heir of Robert Bauge of Barton, tenant in chief, is his heir. William Brette has been in possession of the aforesaid tenements from the time of the said John’s death.

158.	EDMUND DE CORNEWAILL, DE CORNEWAILE, DE CORNEWAYLE or DE CORNWAILL.
	Writ, 1 April, 28 Edward III.
OXFORD.	Inq. taken at Asthalle [Esthalle], (fn. 2) Tuesday before the Ascension, 28 Edward III.
	Asthalle [Esthalle]. The manor held jointly with Elizabeth his wife, who survives, of Edward, prince of Wales, by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 22 March last. Edmund de Cornewaile, his son, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

HEREFORD.	Inq. taken at Hereford, 20 April, 28 Edward III.
	Ashton. A moiety of the manor held of the inheritance of Elizabeth his wife, who survives, of Roger de Mortuo Mari by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county. Date of death as above. Edmund de Cornewayle, son of the said Edmund and Elizabeth, aged 30 years and more at Christmas last, is his heir.

SALOP.	Inq. taken at Wurthyn, 6 May, 28 Edward III.
	Kynlet. The manor (extent given, including 2 ponds with fishery, and a park) held by the said Edmund and Elizabeth his wife, who survives, as of her inheritance, of the king in chief by homage and fealty. Wurthyn. A moiety of the town (extent given), including a piece of the forest of Caus, called ‘le Heth,’ held by the said Edmund and Elizabeth, as above, of the king in chief as parcel of the barony of Caus. Overgorthore and Baughaltre in the Marches of Wales. Held by the said Edmund and Elizabeth, as above, of the king in chief as parcels of the barony of Caus. He died as above. Edmund de Cornwaill, his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

SALOP.	Inq. taken at Wurthyn, 2 March, 28 Edward III.
	Kynlet. The manor held jointly by Edmund and Elizabeth his wife, who survives, as of her inheritance, of the king in chief by knight service. The extent includes a pond with fishery, a water-mill and a park. Wurthyn. A moiety of the town and 100s. yearly rent at Overgorthore and Baughaltre in the Marches of Wales similarly held of the king in chief by homage and fealty, of the same inheritance. In the said moiety are no buildings, but 4l. rents and a chace called ‘Hexstowe.’ He died 28 February last. Edmund de Cornubia his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

159.	JOHN, SON AND HEIR OF JOHN DE DENE or DE DEEN, knight.
	Writ after the death of the said John, a minor in the king’s wardship, who held by knight’s service of the abbey of Rammeseye, lately void and in the king’s hand. 19 June, 28 Edward III.
HUNTINGDON.	Inq. taken at Upwode, Thursday before the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 28 Edward III.
	Upwode. A messuage, a dovecot, a carucate of land uncultivated for ten years past, 4a. meadow, 5a. underwood came to the king’s hands by reason of the minority of the said John son of John, and so remained until the king by letters patent granted the said tenements to Nicholas de Styuecle and Richard de Wath, clerk, until the lawful age of the said heir, who held them while within age as above of the abbey of Rameseye by service of a tenth part of a knight’s fee. He died on Sunday before the Ascension last. Ada, sister of the aforesaid John de Deen, knight, and kinswoman of the deceased, aged 50 years and more, and John Nevyle, son of Margaret, the other sister of the aforesaid John de Deen, knight, kinsman of the deceased, aged 30 years and more, are his heirs.

OXFORD.	Inq. taken at Tywe, 1 October, 28 Edward III.
	Grave. A messuage and two virgates of land held of the king in chief by service of a fortieth part of a knight’s fee and by rendering 8s. 8d. yearly to the manor of Barton Seint Johan. He died three years ago. Nicholas de Busseby, his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.
