He was seised of the under-mentioned manors of Astwell, and lands in Astwell, Fancote, and Wapenham in fee, and being so seised enfeoffed Richard Isham and Robert Yaram thereof, who suffered a recovery of the said premises, Hilary term, 5 Hen. VII, to one William Cutlerd and John Hyndeson, who being seised thereof accordingly in fee demised the said manors and lands by indenture tripartite to Joan Lovet wife of the said Thomas, late the wife of John Hawe one of the justices of the common pleas, Thomas Coke, clk, William Davers one of the justices of the common pleas, Robert Rede, Richard Empson, Thomas Hasilwode, John More, gent., William Catebyn, gent., and William Page of London, gent., who survive, and William Dunthorn, gent, now deceased, to hold during the life of the said Joan Lovet, with remainder to the said Thomas Lovet in tail, with remainder as to the manor called ‘Brokes’ to Thomas Dorne brother of the said Thomas Lovet in tail male, and with remainder as to the manor called ‘Byllynges’ to the said Thomas Dorne in tail, with remainder as to the manor called ‘Brokes’ to John Dorne in tail male, and with remainder as to the manor called ‘Billynges’ to the said John in tail, with remainder as to both the manors in tail male and tail respectively to Sibyl Ingelton, Rose Tresham her sister, and Katharine Lynde, sister of the said Sibyl and Rose, successively, with remainder as to the manor called ‘Billynges’ to the right heirs of the body of Roger Gifford, father of Katharine Billyng, late the wife of Thomas Billyng late chief justice of the King’s bench, with remainder in default to the right heirs of the said Roger.
He suffered a recovery Hilary term, 7 Hen. VII, to Edward, Earl of Wilts and others (as in No. 749) of the under-mentioned manors of Drayton and Strixton.
He died 16 Feb. last. Thomas Lovet, aged 17 years and 37 weeks, is his son and heir.

Com. wanting; inq. Thursday after the feast of the Annunciation, 8 Hen. VII.
The said John Hugyn, as appears by De Banco roll Michaelmas Term, 18 Edw. IV, CCCXXXVII, suffered a recovery of the under-mentioned manor and advowson of Whit Staunton to one Thomas Overey, clk., Walter Oseborne, clk., Thomas Wodehyll, clk., and John Bonvyle, esq., who being seised thereof accordingly in fee, by deed dated 15 Aug., 19 Edw. IV, demised certain tenements parcel of the said manor (reserving to themselves all boon work, rents, Peter’s Pence, and Pence of the aid of the Purification anciently due from the said tenements), to Joan Hugyn, who survives, daughter of John Brytte, and late wife of Thomas, son and heir of John Hugyn, son and heir of Thomas Hugyn, to hold for the term of her life. And further, by deed dated 19 Aug., 19 Edw. IV, they demised the capital messuage and site of the said manor, with its curtilage, certain specified closes of land and meadow, the alternate presentation of the church, rents and services due from John Powghwyll and others, a moiety of view of frankpledge there, &c., the rents, &c., excepted as above, and the reversion of the said tenements expectant on the death of the said Joan, to John son and heir of Thomas Hugyn in tail, with remainder to Elizabeth, late wife of Thomas Holand, his sister, in tail, with remainder to the heirs of the body of John Brytt, with remainder to Simon Brytt, his brother in tail, with remainder to the right heirs of the said John Brytt; which demise of the said reversion the said Joan Hugyn, by deed dated 20 Aug., 19 Edw. IV, accepted and confirmed.
The said John Hugyn being thus seised of all the lands, rents, services, and reversions aforesaid, by deed dated 12 Sept., 22 Edw. IV, gave all his lands, &c., in Whit Staunton, Briggewater, North Pederton, Bokelond St. Mary, Hall in Charde, and elsewhere in the county of Somerset, and in Netherbury and Bridport, co. Dorset, to Giles Dawbeney, knt., Robert Stawell, esq., William Hody, Thomas Wodehyll, clk., William Cleyton, and John Heyron, to the use of his will, which he declared as follows by an indenture made at Whyt Staunton, 20 March, 23 Edw. IV, viz. that his feoffees should suffer Joan his wife to occupy the “howsyng above the west ende” of the hall of Whitstaunton, &c., while she continued sole and unmarried; that John, his son and heir apparent, should have the “occupacion of all the residew” of the said manor, paying annually 10 marks to the said Joan, while single; that the said Joan should receive the rents and profits of his other lands in the counties of Somerset and Dorset, during the nonage, and for the maintenance, of Walter and Giles his sons, accounting to them, and paying them any overplus at 21; that the said feoffees on the said Walter’s attaining his full age should make an estate to him, and Elizabeth daughter of John Brytt, late of Thornecomb, squier, “whom by the grace of God the said Water shall have to wyfe,” of all the testator’s lands in Briggewater, Donnewere, and North Pederton, co. Somers., and in Castell alias Naysshe in the parish of Hawkechurch, co. Dorset (except the lands which were Robert Lieghys in Briggewater, Donnewere, and North Pederton), to hold to them, and the heirs male of the body of the said Walter, with remainder in default to the right heirs of John Hugyn the testator, except a tenement, “in which Water Ede dwellyth in North Pederton,” which in default of Walter’s male issue and of issue of the said John, should remain to John Maunsell in tail, with remainder to the testator’s right heirs; and further that the said feoffees should make an estate to the said Giles, at 21, of the testator’s lands in Bokelond Seynt Mary, Charde, Bridport, and Netherbury in tail male, with remainder to the testator’s right heirs.
By deed dated 16 Oct., 2 Hen. VII, the said feoffees demised all their lands and tenements in Whit Staunton to Joan Hugyn, widow, who survives, late the wife of the said John Hugyn, for the term of her widowhood, paying 5 marks yearly to the said feoffees. The said Joan, late the wife of Thomas Hugyn, as also John Wadham and the heirs of Nicholas Stuklegh, tenants under the manor of Whit Staunton, never attorned to the said Giles Daubeney and his co-feoffees, wherefore in spite of the said feoffment, the said John Hugyn, and after him his son and heir John Hugyn, died seised of the said reversion, and of the rents and services due from Wadham and Stukleigh, in fee.
He died 8 Aug., 3 Ric. III, leaving John Hugyn, his son and heir, then aged 22 and more. The said John Hugyn, the son, died 3 March last. Joan Hugyn, one year and a half old, is his daughter and heir.
SOMERS. Manor and alternate presentation of the church of Whit Staunton, with a moiety of the liberties, franchises, customs, courts, and view of frankpledge, and of all villains and natives, of the said manor, held of the King, as of the Earldom of Salisbury, the lands not in reversion being worth 5 marks yearly.

He was seised of the under-mentioned lands in Compton and elsewhere in fee, and being so seised gave them to one Nicholas Gosse and William Wagete now deceased, and John Symon, Robert Whityng, John More, and Thomas Heyward, who survive, to the use of his last will, and directed them to give lands thereout to the value of 20l. yearly to Thomas Ghilberd one of his sons in tail, with remainder to his own right heirs.

He held no lands at the day of his death; but one John Holforde, late Master of St. John Baptist’s, Bridgewater, William Jacob, and William Dodysham were seised of the under-mentioned manor of Chelton and 20 messuages in Hylleferons, Stokegursy, Alwerton, Strecheholte, Poulet, Aysshecote, Merlynche, Hunspyll, and Gotton, and being so seised demised them to the said Walter Mychell esq., and Agnes his wife and the heirs of their bodies with remainder to the right heirs of the said Walter, by virtue whereof the said Walter and Agnes were seised of the said premises in fee tail. And afterwards the said Walter died, and the said Agnes survived him and is still living.
The said Walter Mychell was seised in fee of the under-mentioned manors of Wemdon, Westpury, Cleyhull, Sterte, Est Chylton, Cheselade, Northbowre, and Westboure, and 20 messuages, 300a. land, 100a. pasture and 40a. meadow in Canyngton, Dodesham, Pegnesse, Pederham, Lewelston, Walpyll, Estboure, Northpederton, Durley and Bryggewater, and being so seised gave them to Robert, late Abbot of Athelney, Robert Stowell, esq., John Hugyn, Henry Ogan, Roger Pym, John Payne, John Baker, and Robert Phylyppes, clk., and their heirs for ever, on condition that after his death they should permit the said Agnes his wife, while she continued unmarried, or otherwise his executors, to take the whole of the clear profits of the premises for the payment of his debts, for the sustinence of the said Agnes and his children by her, for the marriage of his daughters, and the performance of his last will, and that thereafter they should make a sufficient estate in law of the premises to the heirs of his body for ever. They were seised thereof accordingly in their demesne as of fee, and afterwards the said Robert Stowell, John Hugyn, Henry Ogan, and John Baker, released their right therein to the said late Abbot, Roger Pym, Robert Phyllyppes and John Payne, who were accordingly seised thereof in fee; and being so seised, at the request of the said Walter Mychell they demised the manors of Estboure and Est Chylton, two closes of pasture called ‘le Brodehokemede’ and ‘le Nek’ in Canyngton, a close of land there called ‘Estdowne,’ a close there called ‘le Hanger,’ 3 closes of land there called ‘Estryons,’ a close of pasture there called ‘Westryons,’ an acre of meadow in Chylton, a close of land called ‘Barlond’ in Canyngton, 3a. meadow there called ‘Barlondmede,’ a close of meadow there called ‘Est Somerlese,’ a close of meadow there called ‘West Somerlese,’ a close of meadow there called ‘le West More,’ a tenement there which John Holand then held, 5 closes of arable in Wemdon called ‘Whyteshettes,’ 3a. land there which John Chute then held, and six burgages in Briggewater, to Giles Daubeney, knt., Thomas Tremayle, John Byconell, knt., Robert Stowell, John Twynyho, John Hugyn, Henry Ogan, John Spenser, Richard Forster, Walter Oseborne, clk., John Heyron, and John Esterfelde, their heirs and assigns, to the intent that they should permit the issues and profits of the premises to be taken and estates thereof to be made according to the form of certain indentures between the said Walter Mychell and one Robert Strange, by virtue whereof the said Giles and his joint feoffees were and are seised of the premises in fee.
The said Walter and Agnes Mychell had issue between them William Mychell, the said John Mychell, and Thomas Mychell, Agnes, Raginald, Joan, Eleanor, and Margery. And the said Walter died, and afterwards the said William died without issue. And afterwards, namely 3 Nov. last, the said John Mychell died without issue, the said Robert Phyllyppes and John Payne, and the said Giles Daubeney, John Byconell, Robert Stowell, Henry Ogan, William Spencer, Walter Oseborne, John Heyron, and John Esterfelde, being then, and now, seised of the above-mentioned manors and lands by virtue of the estate and feoffment made to them thereof as above. Thomas Mychell is brother and next heir of the said John Mychell, and he was aged 21 and more at the time of the death of the said John. And the said Agnes Raginald Joan Eleanor and Margery, children of the said Walter and Agnes, are sustained out of the issues and profits of the said lands, and are not yet married. Cf. No. 257.

It was found by an inquisition taken at Ware before John Smyth, escheator, 6 April, 21 Edw. IV, on a writ de Diem clausit, that the said Cicely had died seised in fee simple of the under-mentioned manor and lands, which, by reason of the minority of the said Edward, her son and heir, then aged 10 and more, and by virtue of the said inquisition, came to the King’s hands.
The said Edward died 14 Jan. last. Cicely, now the wife of William Burbage, aged 26 and more, is his sister and heir.
HERTS. Manor of Cresbroke, worth 8 marks, held of the Lady Margaret, Countess of Richmond, as of the manor of Chesthunt, in socage, by fealty and 56s. 3d. rent, and 1 lb. pepper yearly.

One Elizabeth Grene, late wife of Walter Grene, esq., John Pemberton, clk., John Gaynesford, John Catesby, and John Arderne, being seised of the under-mentioned tenement in St. Thomas Apostle’s in fee, demised it to one John Donne the elder, citizen and mercer of London, for 20 years to begin Michaelmas, 38 Hen. VI, at 5 marks rent for the first two years of the term and 10 marks for the remaining eighteen years, to be paid quarterly. And afterwards the said John Catesby, having survived the said Elizabeth and the others, died leaving issue Humphrey Catesby his son and heir, who is now seised of the said tenement in fee.

A fine was levied on the morrow of the Purification, 3 Hen. VII, between the said Marquess, then Earl Marshal and Nottyngham, querent, and John Fisher, serjeant-at-law, Edward Willoughby, esq., and Robert Logge, clk., deforciants, of the under-mentioned castle and manor of Berkeley, and manors of Hamme and Appulbrigge, to hold to the said Marquess in tail, with remainder to the King in tail male, with remainder to the Marquess’ right heirs.
By fine of even date between the said Marquess, querent, and the said Willoughby and Logge, deforciants, the under-mentioned manor of Cowley was similarly entailed.

The said John and Anne Beauchamp died in the lifetime of the said Marquess, who thereupon entered into the said manor.

One Robert Horne, esq., enfeoffed him, together with John Colard, John Fyssher, John Haugh, John Parker, and William Salmon, ‘gentilmen,’ of the under-mentioned messuage and land, to the use of him the said Richard Peverell, and the use of his last will. By his last will, proved before the Archbishop, he directed that the said John Colard and Margery his wife, his sister, should enjoy the premises for the term of their lives in survivorship, with remainder to Joan Parker, their daughter for life, with remainder to Margaret Parker, her daughter, testator’s goddaughter, in tail, with remainder to the right heirs of the said Joan.

The Lady Elizabeth, late Viscountess Lisle, being seised of the under-mentioned messuages, &c., in fee, married the said Edward, by whom she had issue a son John Grey, and afterwards died. Her said husband survived her, and was seised of the premises in his demesne as of frank tenement by the curtesy.
He died 17 July last. The said John Grey, aged 11 and more, is his son and heir, and son and heir also of the said Elizabeth.

He was seised together with Elizabeth his wife, in her right, of the under-mentioned manor of Kybbeworth in fee. He survived her, and having had issue by her a son John Grey, was seised in his demesne as of frank tenement of the said manor, by the curtesy, with reversion to the said John Grey, as her son and heir.
By deed dated 4 Oct., 38 Hen. VI, Elizabeth Grey, Lady de Ferrers de Groby, gave the other under-mentioned messuages, &c., whereof she was seised in fee, to James, Earl of Wiltes, John Pomerey, Abbot of Leicester, Thomas Fyndern, knt., the said Edward, Viscount Lisle, by the name of Edward Grey her son, John Wareyn, clk., William Gould, and William Proctour, to the use of the said Edward and his heirs. John Wareyn and William Gould the surviving feoffees are now seised thereof to the use of his will.

He was seised together with Elizabeth, his late wife, sister and heir of Thomas Talbot, knt., late Viscount Lisle, of the under-mentioned manor in fee, in her right; and being so seised, a fine was levied Easter, 15 Edw. IV, between Richard Swanyngton, chaplain, querent, and the said Edward and Elizabeth, deforciants, of the said manor, to hold to the said Richard and his heirs, to the use of the said Edward and Elizabeth, and her heirs, with warranty against the Abbot of Westminster and his successors.
He demised the under-mentioned messuage, whereof he was seised in fee, to Walter Roudun to hold for 20 years from Michaelmas, 5 Hen. VII, at 40s. rent.

Thomas Bothe and Richard Stevenson being seised in their demesnes as of fee and of frank tenement respectively of the under-mentioned manor of Kyngeston, by fine levied on the morrow of the Ascension, 15 Edw. IV, gave it to Humphrey Talbot, knt., for the term of his life, with remainder to the said Edward, Viscount Lisle, and Elizabeth, sometime his wife, and her heirs; by virtue whereof the said Humphrey was and is seised of the said manor in his demesne as of frank tenement. And afterwards by deed indented, dated 18 May, 15 Edw. IV, the said Humphrey gave all the advowsons of churches, chapels, and chantries belonging to the said manor, and all services, except yearly services, which were part and parcel of the said manor, to the said Edward and Elizabeth, to hold during the term of his life.
He was seised in his demesne as of frank tenement of the under-mentioned manor of Bokhampton after the death of Elizabeth his wife (as in No. 783).

William Lyndesey was seised of 7 messuages, 4 gardens, 2 dovecots, 400a. land, 30a. meadow, 300a. pasture, 400a. wood, and 2s. rent, and the rent of a red rose, in Sutton, Wilmyngton, Hylles St. Margaret, Horton, Southflete, Bexle, and Earde, co. Kent, worth 20 marks, in fee, and being so seised, by fine levied at Westminster in the octave of St. John the Baptist, 6 Edw. IV, conveyed the premises, in consideration of 400l., to John Croke and William Chestre, and the heirs of William Chestre for ever.
On the death of John Croke, who had survived the said William, the premises descended to John Chestre his son and heir, who, being seised thereof accordingly in fee, by his deed, wherein he is described as John Chestre, merchant of the staple of Cales, son and heir of William Chestre, late merchant of the said staple, enfeoffed the said Margaret Croke, widow, now deceased thereof, together with Robert, Bishop of Worcester, Edward, Bishop of Chichester, Robert Tate, and John Tate, aldermen of London, Henry Wodecok, Thomas Croke, Richard Croke, and John Croke, who survive, to hold to the use of the said Margaret and her heirs, and to the use of her last will.
She died 17 Aug., 6 Hen. VII. Thomas Croke, aged 34 and more, is her son and heir.

The said John Russe, late of Yarmouth, gent., and Christine his wife were seised of the under-mentioned land in fee in her right. They had issue a son Robert Russe who died without issue. And afterwards the said Christine died, and the said John survived her, and held the said land as tenant by the curtesy.
On the death of the said John Russe the land descended to Agnes wife of John Wetherby, aged 50 and more, and Alice late the wife of William Bokele, aged 40 and more, as sisters and heirs of the said Christine.

The said John Blak of Trows beside Norwich, co. Norf., ‘gentilman,’ was seised together with Henry Heydon, knt., Richard Southwell, esq., and others, of the under-mentioned manor of Rokell in fee, to his own use, and to the use of his last will. By his last will he directed the said feoffees to make an estate thereof to John Sefoull, gent., son of George Sefoull, for the term of his life, with remainder to Richard Seffoull, son of Thomas Seffoull, esq., son and heir of the said (sic) Thomas Seffull, and his heirs for ever.
He held at his decease, together with the said Henry Heydon, and Richard Southwell, and others, the under-mentioned messuage in Trows.
He died ……., solely seised of the under-mentioned land in Trows. Elizabeth daughter of the said John Blak, now wife of the said Thomas Seffoull, is his next heir, and is aged 30 and more.

By deed dated 28 Sept, 7 Hen. VII, he gave the under-mentioned messuages, &c., in the manor of Honyesham, by the name of all his barton, together with the castle, house, wood called ‘Honyesham wood,’ a meadow called ‘Water Windmede,’ two closes called ‘Waterlond parkes,’ together with Honyesham mill, and the advowson of the parish church of Honiesham, and together with all messuages, &c., lying together in the said barton of Honyesham, and also by the name of all his lands and tenements in Fenlake, Hurdeshayn, and Carus, within Honyesham aforesaid, to his son John Bere the younger and Elizabeth his wife, with remainder to the heirs of the body of the said John Bere the younger, with remainder in default to his own right heirs.
By deed dated 30 Sept. the same year he gave all the other under-mentioned messuages and lands to the said John Bere the younger in tail, with remainder to himself, his heirs and assigns.
He died 5 April last. John Bere the younger, aged twenty-one and a quarter years at the time of his death, is his son and heir.

Edward, Bishop of Chichester, James, Bishop of Norwich, Edward Willoughby, John Fisher, Thomas Kebeell, John Mordaunt, and Robert Logge, clk., were, and are, seised of the under-mentioned manors in fee to the following uses, viz.:—
Whereas by their writing indented, dated 20 June, 1 Hen. VII, the said Marquess, and they, the said Bishops, Edward, John, Thomas, John, and Robert Logge, gave to Elizabeth, Duchess of Norfolk, late the wife of John, Duke of Norfolk, Christopher Talbot, Archdeacon of Chester, William Paston, Edmund Genney, and Andrew Dymmok, a certain yearly rent of 100l. to be received from the said manors for the term of 15 years then next, or for such lesser time as should be necessary towards the discharge of the debts of the said late Duke; it was further agreed by an indenture, dated 23 Feb., 3 Hen. VII, made between the said Marquess, and Thomas, Earl of Derby, who survives, that they the said Bishops, Edward, John, Thomas, John, and Robert Logge, should stand and be enfeoffed of the said manors to the use of the above indenture, and further to the use of the said Marquess in tail, with remainder in default to the said Earl in tail male, with remainder in default to the Marquess’ right heirs.
He died 10 Feb. last. Maurice Berkeley, aged 56 and more, is his brother and heir.
