ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

In the course of compiling this version of the Pinners' and Wiresellers' Book, I have become indebted to a number of people. In particular to Drs Stephen O'Connor and Vanessa Harding, the editors of this series, for their advice and forebearance on many matters. I am also most grateful to Dr Matthew Davies for drawing my attention to the early lease of a property owned by the Merchant Taylors' Company, to Dr Hannes Kleineke for giving me two references to pinners, one in the Court of Common Pleas and the other in the Court of King's Bench, and to Dr Anne Sutton who invited me to draw on her notes on the Wardrobe Accounts. I should also record my gratitude to my good friend, Harold Barkley for many hours spent in proof reading with me: and to Dr Anne Cobby for timely assistance with the transcription and translation of the original pinners' articles in Norman French. Finally I must thank Professor Caroline Barron, not only for telling me of the existence of the Pinners' and Wiresellers' Book but also for reading the introduction to it and making many helpful comments thereon, and for her valuable assistance with the index.
