	Writ of amotus concerning the lands &c. of the said Arnold who died on 25 April last, 15 June, 15 Edward III.
YORK.	Inq. taken at Hundmanby on Thursday, the eve of St. Margaret the Virgin, 15 Edward III.
	Bukton. A capital messuage and six bovates of land held of Sir Thomas de Siwardby by homage and by knight’s service; and two tofts, nine bovates of land, and a wind-mill, held of William de Bukton by fealty and by service of a rose yearly. Bempton. Four bovates of land held of Robert de Tweng by knight’s service; and a bovate of land held of Thomas de Boynton by knight’s service. Bynyngton. A waste toft and twelve bovates of land held of the said Robert de Tweng by knight’s service. Octon. A toft and four bovates of land held of the said Robert de Twenge, service unknown. Flixton. Five bovates of land held of Sir William Malbys by knight’s service. Broxham. A bovate and a half of land held of William de Bukton by fealty and by service of a rose yearly. Muston. A capital messuage, sixteen bovates of land and a wind-mill, held of William de Raigate by fealty and by service of rendering to the said William and his heirs a pair of gilt spurs, or 6d., yearly. Fordon and Wilardby. Two bovates of land in Fordon and a bovate of land in Wilardby held of the said William de Raigate by the service abovesaid. Twenge. Two bovates of land held of Sir William de Erghum by knight’s service. Siwardby. Two bovates of land held of the prior of Bridelyngton by service of 10s. yearly. He held no other lands &c. as the jurors understand, on the day he died in the counties of York, Northumberland, Cumberland and Westmoreland. Walter his son, aged 10 years, is his next heir.

	Hulle in the Marsh. A messuage and half a virgate of land, with two moors called Brounesmere and Dychefordesore, held of John Daunney, for his life, by indenture made by the said John Daunney, by service of rendering to him yearly 20s.; which land &c. the said John Daunney holds of the honour of Ricardescastel by knight’s service. He held no lands &c. of the king in chief, or of any other, by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance of Joan his wife. John his son, aged 25 years and more, is the next heir of the aforesaid Joan.

321.	MARGARET, LATE THE WIFE OF EDWARD DE BOHUN.

WILTS.	Inq. 7 August, 15 Edward III.
	Scherston and Brodeton. The manors (extents given), including in Scherston a market and a fair once a year on the feast of St. Matthew, held in dower of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee. Uppaven and Sende. The manors (extents given), including in Sende a park called Coufolde, held for her life, of the inheritance of Humphrey de Bohun, earl of Hereford and Essex, of the king in chief by service of a sparrow-hawk yearly. Thomas de Alledon, knight, was lately seised in his demesne as of fee of the said manors, and, by fine levied in the king’s court, he rendered the same to Edward de Bohun and the said Margaret, daughter of William de Ros, to hold to them and the heirs of the said Edward for ever, by the king’s licence and order. The said Humphrey, earl of Hereford and Essex, is brother and next heir of the said Edward.

	Abbehalle. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief by service of 30s. to be paid yearly at Neuwenham to the constable of the king’s castle of St. Briavell. The forest of Dene. The keeping of a certain wood of the king and the attaching of malefactors there of vert and venison, and leading them to the castle of St. Briavell, taking for that keeping housbote and heybote, and old pasture (pasceum), honey, sparrowhawks, stumps (stipes) of oaks and beeches, and the bark of the same. Stantweye. A capital messuage and lands (extent given) held of the earl of Lancaster by service of 7s. and suit at his court of Rodleye yearly. Ralph his son, aged 24 years at the feast of the Annunciation last, is his next heir.

	Wrastlingworth. 88a. arable and a moiety and a third part of a messuage, held of Joan, late the wife of John le Botiller, knight, lady of Hattele, by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee and foreign service; a messuage held jointly with Alice his wife, who still survives, and 60a. arable and 40s. rent &c. (extent given), of William, son and heir of William le Latymer, knight, by knight’s service; which service is assigned with certain other fees to Elizabeth, the wife of Robert son of Robert de Ufford, earl of Suthfolch, by way of dower, of the dower of William le Latymer, sometime her husband. He died on 6 February, 15 Edward III. Reginald his son, aged 6 years and more, is his next heir.

	Laxton. The manor (extent given), including 6l. rent at Shelford and Gedling, held for his life only, of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee, with remainder to Adam his son and the heirs male of his body. Northleverton. The manor (extent given) held, for life only, of the archbishopric of York, which is in the king’s hand, by service of 2s. yearly, with remainder as above. Adam his son, aged 30 years and more, is his next heir.

YORK.	Inq. Wednesday after Holy Trinity, 15 Edward III.
	Shireburne in Harefordlyth. The manor, excepting 14 bovates of land, (extent given), including a meadow called ‘le Park’ and Restonneng which in ordinary years is inundated by the water of Derewente, a yearly rent of 6s. 8d. from tenants at will at Potter Brumpton which pertains to the said manor, and a market every Tuesday, held of Gilbert de Aton by knight’s service; and the said 14 bovates of land held of William de Wyvill by knight’s service and by rendering to him and his heirs 40s. yearly. Everyngham. The manor (extent given) held for his life of the archbishopric of York, which is void and in the king’s hand by the death of William de Melton the late archbishop, by service of doing the office of butler in the house of the said archbishop and his successors on the day of his enthronement; with remainder to Adam his son, who still survives, and the heirs male of his body. Adam de Everyngham, knight, his son, aged 28 years and more, is his next heir.

SUFFOLK.	Inq. taken at Aketon 16 October, 15 Edward III.
	Grotene. 4d. rent held of the king in chief by knight’s service, as of the honour of Hatfeldepeverel. The said Walter, during his lifetime, enfeoffed Robert de Rokwod of certain lands &c. in Aketon, viz. a messuage, 80a. arable, 4a. meadow, 2a. pasture, 10a. wood, a third part of a windmill and 22s. yearly rent, which are held of the king in chief, as of the honour aforesaid, by service of a third part of a moiety of a knight’s fee, to hold to him and his heirs for ever; which Robert, after the death of the said Walter, enfeoffed of the said lands &c. Alice, late the wife of the said Walter, to hold for her life, with remainder to John Clerbek, son and heir of the said Walter, to hold to him and the heirs of his body, with reversion, in default of such issue, to the said Robert and his heirs. No other lands &c. descended or ought to descend to the said John son of Walter after the death of any of his ancestors. John Clerbek his son, aged 3 1/2d. years, is next heir of the said Walter. Endorsed: Let it be replaced in the bundle of escheats of the 15th year of King Edward III at the Tower.

	Weldon and Weston by Asshele. The manors (extents given), including a park by the forest of Rokyngham, a pasture called Derezates, and rents in Sutton, held for his life of the king in chief by barony, excepting 11 messuages, 6 1/2 virgates of land, and 70s. rent in the said manor of Weldon, 76s. rent in the said manor of Weston, and the advowson of the priory of la Launde, by fine levied in the king’s court, with remainders, excepting as above, to Ralph his son, and Joan, daughter of Richard de la Pole, citizen of London, who now survive, and to the heirs male of the bodies of the said Ralph son of Ralph and Joan, and to the right heirs of the said Ralph, to hold of the king and his heirs by the services aforesaid, by the king’s charter of licence dated at Berkhampstede, 30 March, 13 Edward III; which messuages, land and rent the said Ralph son of Ralph, and Joan, held long before the death of the said Ralph Basset, of the gift of the said Ralph, by the present king’s licence, as is also contained in the charter aforesaid. Weldon. A messuage and 80a. land (extent given) held jointly with Joan his wife and John his son, who survive, of the gift and feoffment of Roger Basset and Richard de Leycestre, to hold to them and the heirs of the body of the said John by the services accustomed; and they are held of the said manor of Weldon by service of 1lb. pepper yearly. KENT.	Inq. taken at Osprenge, 21 May, 15 Edward III.
	Thurleye. The manor (extent given) held by the courtesy of England of the inheritance of Elizabeth his wife, erewhile deceased, of the king in chief, as of the castle of Dover, by service of a knight’s fee, and by rendering 20s. every twenty weeks for the ward of the said castle; and there are 15a. arable, which are held of the abbot and convent of Faverisham by service of 2s. 6d. yearly. Wornesele. The manor (extent given), with a moiety of the advowson of the church there, held of the aforesaid inheritance of the king in chief, as of the castle of Dover, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee, and by rendering 5s. every twenty weeks for the ward of the said castle, and paying 12d. to the sheriff of Kent on the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula. Bokton Malerbe. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church there, held for his life, of the aforesaid inheritance, of the king in chief, as of the castle of Dover, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee, and by rendering 5s. every twenty weeks for the ward of the said castle. Thomas, son of the said William and Elizabeth, aged 23 years and more, is the said Elizabeth’s heir.

	Aleston by Heybrigg. 10l. 23d. yearly rent from divers tenants, with a wind-mill, held of Richard Cogan by knight’s service, quantity unknown. He held no other lands &c. in the county on the day he died. Thomas his son, aged 22 years and more, is his next heir.

	Fynchesle. Two parts of a messuage, 120a. arable and 68s. 7d. rent, held for life of the bishop of London in socage and by service of 47s. 7d. Hendon. 80a. land, 10a. wood and 38s. 2d. rent, held for his life of the abbot and convent of Westminster by service of 29s. 8d. The reversion of the said tenements belongs to Thomas, son of Henry Bydyk, aged 19 years and more.

SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Andevere, 10 April, 15 Edward III.
	Crokeseston. The manor (extent given) held for his life only, of the grant of Michael de Drokenesford, rector of the church of Drokenesford, with remainder to Thomas, son of the said John, and the heirs of the said Thomas for ever. The said manor is held by service of half a knight’s fee, but whether of Bartholomew de Insula or of John Crouk is unknown. Thomas his son, aged 21 years on the feast of St. Lambert last, is his next heir of all lands &c. of which the said John was seised in his demesne as of fee on the day he died.
SOUTHAMPTON; ISLE OF WIGHT.	Inq. 5 April, 15 Edward III.
	Affeton. The manor (extent given) held for his life of the grant of Sir John de Drokenesford, late bishop of Bath and Wells, with remainder to Thomas, son of the said John, and his heirs for ever, of the king in chief, as of the castle of Caresbrok, by service of a knight’s fee and suit at the court of knights at Nyweport every three weeks. Heir as above.

	Estwyk atte Flore. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of Thomas Wake, lord of Lidell, by service of three knight’s fees, and suit at his court at Herteford, which is of the fee and barony of Bronne, every three weeks. He held the said manor for life, by the courtesy of England, as of the inheritance of Margaret his wife. Thomas son of the said John and Margaret, aged 21 years and more, is his next heir.
ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Lexeden, 7 March, 15 Edward III.
	Stapilforde Tany. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of the king, as of the honour of Reygleye, by service of half a knight’s fee, and by suit of court at the said barony monthly. He held the said manor and advowson for life, by the courtesy of England, as of the inheritance of Margaret his wife. Heir as last above.

A third part of the manor held as dower, after the death of the said William, of Adam de Clifton by service of a third part of a pair of gilt spurs yearly. Wymundham. A third part of the manor (extent given), whereof she was enfeoffed jointly with the said William and the heirs of their bodies, by fine levied in the court of King Edward II, held of the king in chief by service of being butler. Hedersete. The manor (extent given) held jointly as above by fine levied in the king’s court, by the gift of Joan late the wife of Robert de Tatishale, of Ralph de Nevill in socage and by service of a sparrow-hawk yearly. John their son, aged 32 years and more, is next heir of the said William and Alice.

Hertyngg, Chedehurst and Polbergh. Three fees, which Henry Huse holds. Lhirditon. A knight’s fee, which Juliana de Insula holds. Grave. A fortieth part of a knight’s fee, which John de la Grave holds. Bulsham. A quarter of a knight’s fee, which William de Bulsham holds. He had no advowsons of churches in the county.

	Westuderlee. He erewhile held a moiety of the manor, of the king in chief, by service of finding a hobelar at his own charges, in the Welsh war, for forty days, to attend the king; but he enfeoffed Thomas de Coleshulle and John de Tyryngham thereof, by fine levied in the king’s court, and by his licence, to hold of the king, by the services aforesaid; who long after, by the king’s licence and by fine levied in his court, granted the said moiety to the said Walter for his life, with remainder to Hugh his son and the heirs of his body, to hold of the king as above. Northasshele. A messuage and a carucate of land held for his life of Elizabeth de Bourgh, as of her manor of Cranebourne, by fealty and by service of 2s. yearly, of the grant of the said Thomas and John by virtue of the fine aforesaid, with remainder to the said Hugh and the heirs of his body. Westuderle. 60a. land held for his life of Lady Philippa, queen of England, as of the manor of Estuderle which sometime was of Matthew le Columbers, by fealty and suit of court every three weeks, of the grant of the said Thomas and John, by virtue of the fine aforesaid, with remainder to the said Hugh and the heirs of his body. The manor (extent given), including a chace called Dalyngton and a rent (firma) called Bromheth. Bhivlhame. The manor in the above rape (extent given), including a plot of waste called Combwode. Crouhurst. The manor in the above rape (extent given), including land called Broclond and pasture called Forewode. And there are castleward pertaining to the said rape worth 20l. yearly, rent of Bolewarhith worth …. yearly, the farm of Codynge and the lastage of Wynchelse worth 8l. yearly, …. And there are paid thence yearly of assised rent to the castle of Hastynges ……, and of blanch farm to the king by the hands of the sheriff 10l. yearly. 	Burghersh. The advowson of the church. The rape of Hastyngs. Fifty-two knights’ fees, viz.:— Wertlynge, Coudene and Sokenersh. Five fees held by Thomas de Hoo, knight. Sharndene and Bourne. 	Ralph de Schyrle, knight, aged 60 years, says that the said Laurence is 21 years of age and more, because he was born at Allesle, co. [Warwick], on the feast of St. Cuthbert 14 Edward II, and was baptized in the church there; and this he knows because at the same time in which the said Laurence was born there was discord between …. and John de Peyto the elder, touching a lawsuit pending in the king’s court, and peace was restored between them by writing, by the date whereof the truth of the said age is clear to him. John Gobaud, knight, aged 50 years, says the like, and knows it because at the same time Joan his wife was pregnant, and within a month after the birth of the said Laurence she bore him a son named John, whose birth he caused to be noted in a missal of his parish church, under date of the Incarnation, whereby he is sufficiently sure that the said Laurence is aged 21 years and more. Nicholas de Charnels, knight, aged 50 years and more, says the like, and knows it because at the same time he was esquire of Sir John de Hastinges, father of the said Laurence, and by a writing remaining with the said Sir John, dated Sunday next after St. Cuthbert, 14 Edward II, on which day came John de Waldegrave and announced from the said Sir John the birth of the said Laurence, the truth of the birth is clear to him. John Mourdac, aged 50 years and more, says the like, and knows it because on Monday next before St. Cuthbert, 14 Edward II, his daughter Joan was born, the time whereof he caused to be noted in a missal under the date of the Incarnation. Guy de Mauncestre, aged 50 years, says the like, and knows it because on the feast of St. Cuthbert, 14 Edward II, there came to him a messenger from Juliana, mother of the said Laurence, and announced the said Laurence’s birth, which he caused to be inserted in a psalter of his, under the date of the reign of King Edward II. Roger de Aylesbury, knight, aged 50 years and more, says the like, and knows it because at the same time he was sent to (apud) Bergweny by John de Hastinges, father of the said Laurence, to announce to the prior there the birth of the said Laurence, that he might note it, in his presence, in the missal of his priory, under the date of the Incarnation. John de Peyto, the elder, aged 60 years, Guy Bruton, aged 50 years, William Musard, aged 50 years, and Richard de Louscombe, aged 50 years, say the like, and know it because, in the same year, John de Bouclonde gave his land in Drayton to Henry de Drayton by his charter, in which all of them are named as witnesses. York], and baptized in the church there, and was 22 years of age at Christmas day last, and this [he knows because Geoffrey le Sc]rop, to whom the king has committed the wardship of the lands &c. which were of the said Isabel until the lawful age of the said John, delivered the same to the said John, as heir of full age, at the feast of St. Martin in the Winter, 13 Edward III. Thomas de Cleseby, aged 60 years and more, says the like, and knows it because he held a carucate of land in West Wytton for a term of twenty years, by a writing of the same Isabel, which term lapsed two years and more ago. Thomas de Spenythorn, aged 56 years, says the like, and knows it because, in the same month in which the said John was born, he had a son named William made a monk in the abbey of St. Mary, York, from which time 22 years and more have elapsed. John Vavasour, aged 58 years and more, says that the same John de Orreby was born and baptized as abovesaid, and this he knows because, at the feast of St. Michael next before the day of the said John’s birth, he espoused Margaret his wife, who still survives, from which time 22 years and more have elapsed. Nicholas de Garton, aged 55 years, says the like with the first juror, and knows it because, within a fortnight next after the day of the said John’s birth, he had a son named Robert dead, and buried in the cemetery of the church of West Wytton, from which time 22 years and more have elapsed. 339.	WILLIAM SON OF WILLIAM DE ROS of Ingemanthorp.
	Writ of plenius certiorari, on the petition of Robert de Ros, son of William de Ros of Ingemanthorp, showing that, whereas Ralph son of William granted his manor of Suthmuskham and Carleton to William son of William de Ros of Ingemanthorp, father of the said Robert, now deceased, whose heir he is, to hold to the said William son of William and the heirs of his body, and the said William son of William demised the said manor to Geoffrey le Scrop for life, the said manor, amongst other lands &c. which were of the said Geoffrey, was by reason of the said Geoffrey’s death, taken into the king’s hand, wherefore he has prayed the king to remove his hand from the said manor, and to cause it to be delivered to him, 20 March, 15 Edward III.
	Memorandum by the escheator that he warned the heir of Geoffrey le Scrop to be present, if he wished, on the day of the taking of the inquisition, but he did not come, nor any other on his behalf.
NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. made at Newerk, 29 March, 15 Edward III.
	Suthmuskham and Carleton. Ralph son of William gave the manor to William son of William de Ros of Ingemanthorp, to hold to the said William and the heirs of his body. Geoffrey le Scrop held the said manor for life, and had no other estate therein on the day of his death than by the demise of the said William son of William. The said William died, and Robert de Ros is his son and heir, and has not remised or released to the said Geoffrey le Scrop the right he had in the said manor, which was taken into the king’s hand by reason of the said Geoffrey’s death, and for no other cause. The said manor is held of the archbishopric of York, as of the manor of Shirburne, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee, two appearances at the archbishop’s court yearly when he should be at Sothewell, and 2s. yearly.

	Endorsed by the escheator, that he went to Horsham, in the neighbourhood of Westgrenestede, co. Sussex, to examine the said Thomas, but did not find him in his bailiwick; yet he took an inquisition concerning the state of the said Thomas, and sends it sewn to the writ.

	The said Thomas is of good, clear and sane memory, and always has been so from his birth. Westgrenstede. 	Wollore. A moiety of the manor and town, which is a borough, held of the king in chief, as of the crown. Hethpole. Three cottages, 6s. rent and 6a. meadow, held as above, which used to render yearly 6s. 6d., and now nothing because Hethpole has been for the most part devastated by the Scots, rebels and enemies of the king. Chyvyot. A certain free chase called Chyvyot held as above. Beleford. A moiety of the manor, with a moiety of the hamlet of Yesington annexed thereto, held as above. Louwyck. A moiety of the manor held as above. All held of the king in chief by homage and fealty, and by doing suit at the county[court] of Northumberland every six weeks, and by a certain portion of the 27s. 8d. for cornage falling to the barony of Muschamp, of which the said lands and tenements are parcel, which are paid yearly at the king’s castle of Newcastle-upon-Tyne; but the proportion of the said 27s. 8d. falling to the said lands, and the next heir of the said Nicholas, are unknown to the jury. And the said Nicholas, in his lifetime, dowered Alesia his wife at the church door when he married her, with the assent of Nicholas his father, with the manors of Eston and Grenhou (extents given), including a rent of 1qr. 2bus. of ‘London’ corn yearly at Eston, and a little park at Grenhou, and the said Alesia still survives; which manors are held of the said archbishop of Canterbury by the service aforesaid.
