84. MARGARET, LATE THE WIFE OF EDMUND, BARON OF STAFFORD.
STAFFORD. Assignment of dower to the said Margaret out of all the lands of the said Edmund, 18 October, 1 Edward III. (defaced.)
Norton [on the Moors]. A third part of a messuage and lands (extent given), including lands in ‘le Donfeld,’ Smalethornes, and ‘le Neweheye,’ and a third part of a water-mill.

85. JOHN, SON AND HEIR OF JOHN MAUVEYSYN.
Writ to the escheator to take the proof of age of the said John, 23 May, 1 Edward III.
SALOP. Proof of age, 3 June, 1 Edward III.
John de Wythiford, aged 54 years, says that the said John Mauveysyn was 21 years of age on the feast of the Assumption last, for he was born at Berewyk by Salop on the said feast, 33 Edward I, and baptized in the church of Atincham on the same day, and this he knows because he lifted him from the sacred font.
Walter Scot, aged 66 years, says the like, and knows it because on the same day he buried Mabel (Amabillam) his wife.
John Bascurvile, aged 48 years, says the like, and knows it because he was the same day before the coroner at Atincham for a mishap which happened there.
William Preston, aged 53 years, says the like, and knows it because he took to wife Joan, daughter of Richard de Preston, on the same day of the Assumption.
John Keneweyk, aged 46 years, says the like, and knows it because he had a son John born on the same day.
Henry de Berewyk, aged 44 years, says the like, and knows it because his house was burned in the same week.
William de Takelwarthin, aged 60 years, says the like, and knows it because in the week before the said feast of the Assumption his son Robert was drowned (mersus).
Thomas de Halton, aged 50 years, says the like, and knows it because in the same year he took an assart of Walter le Scot for 30 years.
Peter de la More, aged 44 years, says the like, and knows it because he took his journey for Santiago at the feast of the Purification next after the said feast of the Assumption.
William de Wytthynglowe, aged 45 years, says the like, and knows it because Richard his son took the order of the diaconate at the feast of Holy Trinity next before the same feast of the Assumption.
John Corbet, aged 58 years, says the like, and knows it because Isabel his daughter was married to William de Atincham at the feast of St. Michael next after the said feast of the Assumption.
John Russel, aged 52 years, says the like, and knows it because he buried Adam his father at the feast of St. John the Baptist next before the said feast of the Assumption.

86. MARGERY, ONE OF THE DAUGHTERS AND HEIRS OF THEOBALD DE VERDON, whom William le Blount married.
Writ to the escheator to take the proof of age of the said Margery, and to warn Bartholomew de Burghessh and Walter de Shobedon, guardians of the lands, &c. to be present, 20 February, 1 Edw. III.
STAFFORD. Proof of age taken at Stafford, 10 March, 1 Edward III.
John de Hodinet, aged 54 years, says that the said Margery was 16 years of age at the feast of St. Laurence last past, for she was born at Alveton on that day, 4 Edward II, and baptised in the church there on the same day; and this he knows because he was there with the said Theobald and announced the said birth to him.
Henry de Athelaxton, aged 44 years, says the like, and knows it because he was at Croxdene by Alveton and heard how John de Hodinet announced the said birth.
William atte Blakelegh, aged 60 years, says the like, and knows it because he married Isabel his daughter at the said feast of St. Laurence.
Richard de Farlegh, aged 50 years, says the like, and knows it because he buried William his firstborn son on the same feast of St. Laurence.
Richard de Dolverne, aged 47 years, says the like, and knows it because he hunted with the said Theobald at Wotton by Alveton and shot a buck on the same feast of St. Laurence.
Richard de la Withurste, aged 51 years, says the like, and knows it because he took to wife Denise, daughter of Hugh de la Schawe, on the feast of St. Bartholomew next following the said feast of St. Laurence.
Robert de la Baraile, aged 49 years, says the like, and knows it because he lifted Agnes daughter of Richard de la Withurste from the sacred font on the same day.
John Balle, aged 53 years, says the like, and knows it because he took his journey to Santiago on the feast of the Assumption next following the said feast of St. Laurence.
Roger le Verney, aged 61 years, says the like, and knows it because he gave to Robert Body a virgate of land in Denston with Margaret his daughter at the feast of St. Giles following the said feast of St. Laurence.
Peter de Daddesleye, aged 57 years, says the like, and knows it because he was with the said Theobald in Ireland at the feast of the Decollation of St. John the Baptist next following the said feast of St. Laurence.
Andrew de Madeleye, aged 48 years, says the like, and knows it because John his son was presented to the church of Stoke by the said Theobald at the feast of St. Michael next after the said feast of St. Laurence.
Robert Russel, aged 66 years (?), says the like, and knows it because he buried Alice his wife on the morrow of the said feast of St. Laurence.

87. BARTHOLOMEW, SON AND HEIR OF MATTHEW DE REDHAM.
Writ to the escheator to take the proof of age of the said Bartholomew, 26 March, 1 Edward III.
[NORFOLK.] Proof of age taken at Great Iern[muth], 8 April, 1 Edward III.
Bartholomew son of Cecil de Castre, aged 45 years and more, (says the said) Bartholomew de Redham was born at Great Iern[muth] and baptised in the church of St. Nicholas there on the day of St. Bartholomew, 33 Edward I; and this he knows because he lifted him from the sacred font, and it was 21 years ago on the feast of St. Bartholomew last.
Nicholas Aleyn of Great Iern[muth], aged 40 years and more, says the like, and knows it because he had a daughter Alice born at the feast of St. Martin after the said Bartholomew was born, and she was 21 years of age at the feast of St. Martin last.
William Maynard of the same, aged 60 years, says the like, and knows it because he had a son Nicholas who died on the same day that the said Bartholomew was born.
Alexander de Walsham of the same, aged 50 years, says the like, and knows it because on the morrow of the Epiphany he married his wife Margaret in the said church of St. Nicholas after the said Bartholomew was raised from the font, 21 years ago at the feast of the Epiphany last.
Robert de Tid of the same, aged 46 years, says the like, and knows it because he rented a house of Isabel, mother of the said Bartholomew, which he held for a whole year, in which year the said Bartholomew was born, 21 years ago.
John de Ihowe (?) of Palling, dwelling in Great Iern[muth], aged 40 years and more, says the like, and knows it because he came to the town of Great Iern[muth] to dwell there at the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula in the same year that the said Bartholomew was baptized.
Thomas de Burgh, of Great Iern[muth], aged 50 years and more, says the like, and knows it because his father was buried in the cemetery of Great Iern[muth] on the same day that the said Bartholomew was baptized.
James de Beverle, of Great Iern[muth], aged 51 years and more, says the like, and knows it because Custance, sister of his mother, died on the day of St. Peter ad Vincula in the same year, and he was in the church when the said Bartholomew was lifted from the sacred font.
Henry de Pulham of the same, aged 60 years and more, says the like, and knows it because he purchased of Matthew de Redham, the father, 11s. rent in Great Iern[muth] on the same day that the said Bartholomew was lifted from the font.
John Adam of the same, aged 50 years and more, says the like, and knows it because Fairmanus Alberd, his master, had a son William who was baptized on the same day as the said Bartholomew.
William son of Henry de Drayton, of the same, aged 41 years and more, says the like, and knows it because he went to the church with the said Bartholomew when he was lifted from the sacred font.
Thomas de Rollesbi, of the same, aged 43 years and more, says the like, and knows it because two messuages descended to him on the same day that the said Bartholomew was baptized, by the death of William his brother.

88. MARCA, LATE THE WIFE OF HENRY DYVE.
OXFORD and SUSSEX. Assignment of dower (undated).
Dokelynton, Dadynton, and Wanneworth. The manors pertained to the said Henry on the day of his death, and were extended at 55l. 11s. 8 1/4d., whereof a third part is assigned to the said Marca in dower in Dokelynton (extent given with field names, &c. and names of tenants), including a garden with a fish pond extending from the kitchen wall to the bank of the Wynrith.

WILTS. Assigment of dower (undated).
Putton and Burthon. A third part of a messuage, lands and tenements (full extent given with field names and names of tenants), including a third part of 2a. meadow and common at Alwardesburi.

90. ROGER SON OF JOHN HUSEY, KINSMAN AND HEIR OF JOHN DE BEREWYK, deceased.
Writ to the escheator to take the proof of age of the said Roger, 25 March, 1 Edward III.
DORSET. Proof of age, 18 April, 1 Edward III.
The said Roger was 21 years of age on the feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr last, for he was born at Mortone on the said feast, 7 July, 33 Edward I., and on the same day was baptized in the church of St. Martin there by Sir Robert, rector of the church, his godfather, who still survives and bears witness of his age.
John Peverel, aged 50 years, knows it because he married Isabel his wife about the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in the same year that the said Roger was born, and they were at the feast made for the purification of [Maud] mother of the said Roger rising from childbed of the same.
Bartholomew Payn, aged 70 years, knows it because in the same year he declared (denunciavit) in the missal book of the said church, the day of the birth of the said Roger.
Henry Touere, aged 70 (?) years, knows it because John his son was born on the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula, in the same year, and will be 22 years of age on the same day this year.
John le Moygne, aged 60 years, knows it because John le Moygne his father died on the same feast of the Translation of St. Thomas, and by the date of his testament he remembers the age of the said Roger.
John Crubbe, aged 60 years, knows it by the date of the charter of a tenement in Mortone made to him by John Husey the father, of which he took seisin on the day the said Roger was born.
Henry Germayn, aged 60 years, and Alexander de Watercombe, aged 50 years, know it because they were present in the church with Roger Germayn, godfather of the said Roger, when he lifted him from the sacred font.
William Whyteclyve, aged 70 years, knows it because he was steward of the house of the said John Husey at the time the said Roger was born, and by the date of the rolls of the expenses made on the day of the purification of Maud mother of the said Roger, and by other evidences he well remembers the time.
Richard de Palyngtone, Robert Bryce and William de Bynham, each aged 60 years and more, know it by sufficient evidences.
William de la Beche, knight (chyvaler), to whom the late king committed the wardship, &c. had nothing to say why his inheritance should not be delivered to the said Roger, as of full age.

91. GRACE, LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN DE NODARIIS.
BUCKS. Memorandum of delivery of dower by the sub-escheator to the said Grace, 26 May, 1 Edward III.
Stoke Goldington. Part of the manor (extent given with names of tenants), including the whole grange with houses called ‘Mullehous’ and ‘la Heyhous,’ meadow in ‘la Littlemede,’ and a third part of the park from the gate to ‘Hosiereshewet’ and ‘la Brende.’

92. JOAN, LATE THE WIFE OF WILLIAM BOLLE, of Swynesheved, who held of the king in chief.
LINCOLN. Assignment of dower, 30 May, 1 Edward III.
Coningesby. Three new houses, a third part of lands, &c. (extent given).
Swynesheved. A third part of lands, rents, &c. (extent given).
Steveninge and Holdefrith. The whole common of pasture in the marsh.
Crakestevene. The whole common of pasture in the meadow so called, which is assigned her in allowance of a third part of a salt area in Wygetoft which is wholly assigned to Cecily, daughter and heir of William Bolle.
Swynesheved. 43a. marsh for a third part of marsh held by the said William of the enfeoffment of John de Holand.
Donington. A third part of four swathes of meadow in ‘le Southpark.’
This assignment was made in the presence of Cecily, daughter and heir of the said William Bolle, and of Nicholas de Holand, brother and attorney of John de Holand, Joland de Holand and Margaret his wife having been warned.

93. LETIA, LATE THE WIFE OF RALPH DE RUGEMUND.
Writ to Simon de Grymesby, escheator, 1 October, 1 Edward III.
Whereas the said Letia sued in the court of the late king touching 4 messuages, lands and rents in Holm by Pykhale as her right and marriage portion which she recovered against John de Thornton, chaplain, and Alexander le Clerk of the hospital of St. Leonard, York, who on 1 November, 14 Edward II., pending the plea, enfeoffed John de Hartcla thereof, who within 15 days enfeoffed Andrew de Hartcla his brother, by whose death and forfeiture the same came to the said king’s hand; and the said Letia died on Monday before Christmas day, 19 Edward II., the matter undecided; he is ordered to deliver to Richard de Rugemund, chaplain, her son and next heir, who is of the age of 40 years, the said lands in his custody, which are held of Robert de Coygneres by knight’s service, if they are in the king’s hand by reason of the said forfeiture.
YORK. Return by the escheator (undated).
He has been unable to execute this writ because Thomas de Burgh, escheator of the late king, delivered him a messuage, lands and rent, &c. in Holme, asserting that they were in the king’s hand in wardship, by reason of the minority of the heir of John de Harcla; but he has found by inquisition that the said John fifteen weeks before his death enfeoffed Andrew his brother thereof, who continued his seisin until he became a traitor to the late king, when the said Thomas, by colour of his office, took the same into the king’s hand, where they still remain by reason of the minority of the said John’s heir, although the said John had no estate therein when he died.

94. SIMON, SON OF SIMON PAKEMAN, of Kerby, deceased.
Writ to the escheator to take the proof of age of the said Simon, 26 May, 1 Edward III.
LEICESTER. Proof of age, Wednesday the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, 1 Edward III. (defective and defaced.)
William le Levere says that the said Simon was 21 years of age on 20 March last, for on 20 March, 34 Edward I., he was born at Kerby, and was baptized in the church of Clenford on the second day following by Simon Mayel and Simon Osbern his godparents; and this he knows because he had a son William born at Kerby on 15 March in the same year, who was always called of the same age as the said Simon, and is 21 years of age and more.
John de Wiston says the like, and knows it because Simon Pakeman the father sold him thirty oaks by an obligation of 5 marks dated 15 May, 34 Edward I., and on that day Alice mother of the said Simon was purified from his birth.
Matthew Mayel says the like, and knows it because he acquired of Richard atte Monk (?) in Kerby 2a. land in fee by a writing whose date …… . before the Annunciation, 34 Edward I.; and when ……… the birth of the said Simon was announced to him.
Simon Wareyn says the like, (and knows it because) he has a daughter Alice who was born ……… who is 21 years of age and more, and was always called of the same age as the said (Simon).
Walter son of Douce says the like, (and knows it because) William Douce his father died on Friday after the feast of St: Peter in Cathedra in the said year, 34 …… .
Henry son of Ralph says the like, (and knows it because) his brother William was slain on Monday in the week of Easter in the said year 34 ………… at Roteby by Kerby about the said accident, the birth of the said Simon was announced to him.
Richard Mayel says the like, and knows it because in the said year 34 he was clerk of the church of Clenford and on 21 March ……… . at the baptism of the said Simon with his godparents and with Simon de Kerby then chaplain.
Philip le Hunte says the like, and knows it because on Sunday before the Annunciation in the said year ……… . . in flames … and after that misfortune Simon Pakeman the father gave …… . oaks for rebuilding the said mansion ………… the birth of the said Simon his son.
William Mauhardyn, Richard Salman, Gerusius Carles (?), and Richard Diket say the like, and know it because they were at Clenford with Simon Mayel and Simon Osbern, godparents of the said Simon at his baptism.
