BERKS; HUNDRED OF KENTEBURY; WANETINGE. Inq. 4 December, 11 Edward II.
Balatteston. The manor, acquired by the said Richard, by the king’s charter, and held of the king in chief to himself, Margaret his wife, and Thomas their son and his heirs.
Fallele. The manor, acquired and held as above, to himself, Margaret his wife, and Richard their son and his heirs.
He died on 14 September, 11 Edward II., in the lifetime of the said Margaret, Thomas and Richard, in whom the right now resides.
WILTS. Inq. Wednesday after St. Nicholas, 11 Edward II.
Crostone. A moiety of the manor (extent given), held for the life of the said Richard and Margaret his wife, by the grant of Alan son of Waren, of William Kayngnel of Iattone Kayngnel, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.
Hamme. A messuage, 50a. land, 4a. meadow, rents &c. held jointly by the said Richard and Margaret, to them and Richard son of the said Richard, and his heirs, of the earl of Norfok and Suffolk by service of 20s. and suit of court.
He died on 15 September in the year aforesaid. Richard his son, aged 6, is his next heir.
Writ to William de Harden to receive the fealty of the said Margaret, on account of her infirmity, for the manors of Balatteston and Fallele, 30 January, 11 Edward II.

Elmested. The manor, which is in the kings’ hand by reason of the minority of the said Lawrence, (extent given), held of the king in chief as of the honour of Reylegh by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, 8s. for the guard of the castle of Colecestre, 2s. to the king’s bailiff of the hundred of Tendring for the view of frankpledge of Elmested, 16d. for sheriff’s aid, and doing suit at the hundred of Tendring.
Margaret his sister, aged 16 and more, is his next heir.

107. PETER DE CUSANCIA.

ESSEX. Inq. Saturday before St. Cuthbert, 11 Edward II.
White Rothingge. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held for the life of Mary late the wife of Stephen Huuel, and not otherwise, for the said manor and advowson were sometime granted by King Edward I. to John de Merk and the said Mary then his wife, to hold to them and the heirs of the body of the said John, with remainder to Cecily de Hastang’ and her heirs; and the said Mary surviving the said John married the said Stephen; and the said Stephen and Mary granted the same by fine levied in the king’s court to the said Peter for the life of the said Mary. The said manor is held of the king in chief by service of keeping a heron falcon at the king’s charges.
William his son, aged 14 and more, is his next heir, who can claim nothing in the said manor except for the life of the said Mary, who as yet survives.

LINCOLN. Inq. Tuesday after the Circumcision, 11 Edward II.
Orreby. The manor (extent given), held of Henry de Bello Monte by service of 1/3 knight’s fee.
Ingoldmeles. 119a. pasture, tenure unspecified; and 12a. pasture held of the heir of Adam de Well’, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by service of 6d. yearly.
Skegnesse. 80a. pasture held of the dean and chapter of Lincoln by service of 13s. 4d. yearly.
Burgh and Wynceby. 40s. rent in Burgh, and 20s. rent in Wynceby, held of Philip de Kyme by knight’s service.
Skendelby. 77a. wood held of Peter de Malo Lacu and Roger de Kerdeston, heirs of Gilbert de Gaunt, in free marriage without any service.
Wolingham. Certain lands &c. worth 60s. yearly, held of the heir of William de Cantelup, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service.
And there are paid to the prior of Thornholm for tithes of the meadows of Orreby 23s. 5d. yearly, and to Walter de Botheby for lands there 22s. 2d. yearly.
Edmund de Somervill aged 40, Alfred de Sulny aged 30, and John son of Robert de Wilughby, a minor and in the king’s wardship, his kinsmen, are his next heirs.
After the death of the said John the manor of Orreby was divided between the said Edmund, Alfred and Robert then living, so that the said Edmund should have a moiety of the manor, excepting 83a. land, the said Robert should have the other moiety, excepting 100s. rent of bondmen, and the said Alfred should have the said 83a. land and 100s. rent, together with certain lands &c. in Wolingham co. Lincoln, and other lands &c. in cos. Nottingham and Derby; and the pourparty of the said Robert, together with the wood of Skendelby which at his death was held in common, is now in the king’s hand by reason of the minority of the said John son of the said Robert de Wilughby.

110. GILES DE CHAUNCEUS alias DE CHAUNCEAUX.

ESSEX. Inq. Sunday after SS. Peter and Paul, 11 Edward II.
Canewedon. The manor (extent given), held of the king as of the honour of Reylegh by service of three parts of a knight’s fee. But John father of the said Giles, in 12 Edward I. by fine levied before the king’s justices, acknowledged the manor to be the right of William de Lambourne, for which the said William granted it to the said John to hold to him and Joan his wife for life, with remainder to the said Giles their son and the heirs of his body, with further remainders to John and Roger their sons and the heirs of their bodies in turn, and to the right heirs of the said John the elder; and because the said Giles died without heir of his body, the manor ought to remain to the said John (his brother) aged 30 and more, by virtue of the fine aforesaid.

Baligar. The manor held of the king in chief for 2 1/2 carucates of land, doing suit for the same at the county (court) of Dublin for all service.
Louweth. A barony held of the king, doing suit for the same at the county (court) of Loueth for all service, but worth nothing because the whole country is laid waste by the Scots and Irish.
Le Corcaugh in Leinster (Lagenia), held of the king, doing suit for the same at the county (court) of Dublin for all service, but worth nothing because laid waste by the Irish of Leinster.

A capital messuage &c., rents, certain fisheries rendering 31 ‘stikkes’ of eels, 37a. arable, 86 1/2a. pasture in places called Oidelpet and Park, 510a. wood and briar, &c. held of the king in chief by service of mewing a goshawk when the king shall intrust it to him, and doing 5s. yearly to Christ Church, Canterbury.
His daughters, Alice aged 9, Maud aged 8, Sarra aged 7, Beatrice aged 7, Joan aged 4, Denise aged 3, and Isabel aged 15 days, are his next heirs.

Writ concerning the lands &c. of the said Guy, who held of the heir of John le Straunge, a minor and in the king’s wardship. 8 January, 11 Edward II.

Glasley. The manor (extent given), held of the manor of Ruytone, which Edmund, earl of Arundell, acquired of Sir John Lestraunge of Knokyn, so that the manor is held of the said earl by service 1/2 knight’s fee, finding a horseman at the manor of Ruytone for twenty days whenever there shall be war between England and Wales. He held nothing in chief of the heir of Knokyn.
Alan his son, aged 25 on Christmas day last, is his next heir.

Risgate. The manor (extent given), including a fishery, toll of a fair on the day of St. Lawrence, a plot of meadow called Chelbold, and a custom called ‘mawing silver,’ held of the king in chief by service of 40s. yearly at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff.
