The said Henry, who totally castrated his elder brother Henry Sturmy, and was convicted to the damage of the said Henry the elder of 20,000l. died in the king’s gaol of Winchester on Sunday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr in the year abovesaid, aged 21.
The said Henry his brother, aged 30 and more, is his next heir.

NORFOLK. Inq. taken at Fakenhamdam, 24 July, 19 Edward II.
Gressenhale and Wesenham. The manors, held of John de Warenna earl of Surrey and Sussex, by service of 1 1/2 knight’s fee. The said Richard died under age, and the said earl was at that time seised of the manor of Gressenhale by reason of his minority; and one John de Neirford was seised of the manor of Wesenham by the demise of the said earl, until the full age of the said Richard or of his true heir.
His sisters, Margery aged 12, and Margaret aged 11, are his next heirs.

YORK. Inq. Saturday the feast of St. Bartholomew, 19 Edward II.
Norton. 12a. meadow held of the king in chief as of the honour of Pontefract by service of 1/30 knight’s fee: Margery Folyot holds the manor for life by the enfeoffment of Richard Folyot, the reversion whereof pertains to the heirs of the said Richard son of Richard.

Writ of scire facias to the escheator in cos. Norfolk &c. to warn Isabel de Hastynges and Ralph de Camoys, to whom the king has committed the wardship of the two heirs, to be in the chancery three weeks after the day of St. Michael next, to show cause why the king should not remove his hand from the manors abovesaid, 23 Sept., 19 Edward II.
Memorandum of the findings in co. Norfolk abovesaid; also that it is found by inquisitions (returned to writ of) 28 June, 17 Edward II, concerning the knight’s fees which were of Aymer de Valencia, late earl of Pembroke, amongst the fees of Castleacre, that the heirs of Foliot hold 9 1/4 fees in Gressenhale, Elsingge, Wesingham, Lexham and elsewhere; and that in the partition of the said fees the said 9(1/4) fees were assigned to Laurence son and heir of John de Hastinges.
Writ of scire facias to warn the above to be in the chancery on the quinzaine of Easter next, 6 March, 19 Edward II.
Memorandum that John, earl of Garrenne, enfeoffed Sir Aymer de Valence of the honour of Castleacre with its fees, who took attornment of the tenants of the fee of Folyot and of Dame Joan the wife of Sir Richard Folyot, who held the manor of Gressinhale by indenture made between the said Sir Aymer and herself, after whose death he entered upon the said manor and died seised thereof; and after his death the king seized the same, and the heirs of Sir Aymer sued out their pourparty and the lands of Sir Richard Folyot were allotted to Laurence de Hastinges one of the heirs.

620. MARGERY, LATE THE WIFE OF RALPH DE SELIDE.
Writ, 4 February, 18 Edward II.
SUSSEX. Inq. Wednesday after St. Peter ad Vincula, 19 Edward II.
Estbourne. A messuage, 21a. land, 3r. meadow, and several pasture for 50 sheep and pasture for 50 sheep on the hills of Bourne and on the common beneath them, held of Sir Bartholomew de Badelesmer as of the manor of Estbourne. The said Ralph and Margery jointly acquired the same, to them and the heirs of the said Ralph, of Amaury (Amarico) de Credonio to be held of him, his heirs and assigns, by service of 21s. yearly rent, and suits at his court of Estbourne and at his hundred (court) of Estbourne, herriet and relief. The said manor is now in the king’s hand by the forfeiture of the said Bartholomew, of whom the said Margery held the abovesaid lands on the day of her death.

Stockelegh Luccomb. The hamlet (extent given), held in dower of the inheritance of John son and heir of Hugh de Luccomb, a minor and in the king’s wardship.
Writ of certiorari, whereas it was found by an inquisition returned into the chancery, that Sibyl late the wife of John de Luccombe held the hamlet of Stockelegh Loccumbe in dower, of the inheritance of John, son and heir of the said Hugh; and by another inquisition that the said Hugh held the manor of Luccombe, of the king by knight’s service; and Elizabeth late the wife of the said Hugh has sought livery of the said hamlet as next (friend) of the heir, because held in socage, asserting that the said manor is held of the honour of Pynkeneye; 29 July, 19 Edward II.
SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Dunstorre 22 August, 19 Edward II.
Luccomb. The manor was held by the abovesaid Hugh of the king as of the honour of Pynkenye, which is in the king’s hand by the acquisition (ex perquisito) of King Edward I, from Henry de Pynkenye sometime lord of that honour, by service of 4 knight’s fees. The said Hugh held no other lands.
Memorandum. Having inspected the books of fees, and the rolls and memoranda of the exchequer, nothing is found concerning the manor of Luccumbe, except that in a writing made by Henry de Pynkeneye to King Edward I, inrolled in the red book at the exchequer, it is contained that the said Henry granted to the said king the homage and service of Robert de Locumbe and his heirs of 4 knight’s fees, and of all the lands &c. which he held of the said Henry in Locumbe, co. Somerset.

Hugh his son, aged 22 and more on the day of his death, was his next heir, and died seised of all his lands &c., and John son and heir of the said Hugh is aged 3 years and 8 weeks, and is in the king’s wardship.

Kerby. A messuage and 8 bovates of land, held of the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by service of 2s. yearly, but worth nothing by reason of the devastation of the Scots.
Brakenthwait. The manor, and a messuage, 22 tofts, 20 bovates and 146a. land, 17a. meadow and 20a. wood in Plumpton, Folifeyt, Braham and Little Ribbestayn, held for life by fine levied in the king’s court by the grant of John Scot of Hoperton to the said Henry and Cecily sometime his wife and to the heirs of the said Cecily; whereof the said manor is held of the abbot of Fountains by fealty only, and the other lands &c. are held of William de Plumpton by service of 1lb. cummin yearly.
Growelthorp and Kirkeby Malasart. 20s. rent held for life, of the inheritance of the said Cecily, of the king as of the manor of Kirkeby Malasart, now in the king’s hand through the forfeiture of John de Moubray, by fealty and service of 1d. yearly to be paid to the said manor.
Alice, daughter of the said Henry and Cecily, aged 28 and more, is their next heir.

Knoll, Netherhelghfeld and Staverbote. The manors held for life, by fine levied in the king’s court, by which Robert de Knoll granted the same with the advowson of the church of Arneclif, to the said Reyner and Beatrice to hold to them, and the heirs of the body of the said Reyner, with successive remainders to William de Knoll and the heirs of his body, to Elias brother of the said Reyner and the heirs of his body, to Elias alias William (sic) son of Richard de Knoll and the heirs of his body, and to Alan de Arches (?) and his heirs; whereof:—
Knoll. The manor (extent given), is held of the king in chief, as of the lordship of Bouland now in the king’s hand, by fealty and service of 1d. yearly.
Netherhelghfeld. The manor (extent given), is held of the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by fealty and service of 2s. yearly.
Staverbote. The manor, whereof the capital messuage, lands &c. (extent given), are held of John de Grey, lord of Ketelwell, by service of 1/14 knight’s fee, and another carucate of land is held of the abbot of Coverham by service of 1/14 knight’s fee.

A messuage viz.—2 granges, 65a. arable, 1a. meadow, 1/2a. pasture, 26s. 8d. yearly rent, 5 customers &c.; whereof 30a. arable are held of the king in chief as of the earldom of Aumarl by service of 4s. yearly; 5a. arable are held of Nicholas de Brendehalle by service of 6d. yearly; and the residue is held of the earl of Winchester, as of his manor of Lamerssh, by service of a pair of gloves, the bearer of which shall have his dinner (prandium) or 1d., and by knight’s service.

Boxsted. The manor (full extent given), held of the king in chief as of the honour of Boulogne by service of a knight’s fee.
Alphameston, Lammersh, and Pebenhersh. A toft with a chamber built, 62a. arable, 4a. (sic) meadow, 13 1/2a. pasture, a water-mill, and 20s. yearly rent; whereof the said toft, 22a. land, 4a. Parish of St. Mary Magdalen, Suthwerk. A messuage and garden, which she had purchased to herself and her heirs in fee, held for life, by fine levied in the king’s court with reversion to Stephen de Chelesfeld and Joan his wife, daughter of the said Lora, and their heirs, of the prior of St. Mary’s, Southwerk, by service of 1lb. cummin yearly.
Parish of St. Olave, Suthwerk. A messuage with 14 small shops at ‘la Watergate,’ held for life, by the demise of John de Northwode the elder, with reversion to the said John and his heirs, of the earl of Warenne by service of 6d. yearly, suit at the earl’s court, and finding a lamp burning in the said church yearly.
Roger, son of John de Northwode the younger, aged 15, is next heir of John de Northwode the elder.

The said Lora held a third part of the offices of usher at the king’s exchequer, and crier in the king’s bench, as daughter and one of the heirs of Simon son of Laurence de Scaccario, of the king in chief by service of carrying the usher’s rod at the said exchequer and bench.
John de Daggeworth, knight, her kinsman, aged 30 and more, is her next heir.

633. WILLIAM WYNE, knight, alias LE WYNE.
Petition to the king from Aymer de Valence, earl of Pembroke, showing that the escheators had seised into the king’s hand the manors of Kirkelawe and Lurteport, which were held of him by knight’s fee by Sir John de Eure, and Sir William Wyne, both of whom died in the king’s fealty, and praying livery of the wardship and marriage of the heirs. With note. The king records that the said William died in his peace, and has commanded enquiry to be made and right done. (French, undated.)

Lurteport. The manor was held by the said William on the day he died of Aymer de Valencia, earl of Pembroch, by service of 1/4 knight’s fee; whereof Katherine late the wife of John de Monemuth holds a third part in dower. He held no other lands &c. in the county.

634. ROBERT DE MULCASTRE.
Writ of certiorari to Henry de Malton and Robert de Barton, on the petition of Isabel late the wife of the said Robert for her dower out of the manor of Neuland in Boulton, and a carucate of land in Ucmanby, which the said Robert, after he married her, gave to John de Harcla, who thereof enfeoffed Andrew de Harcla, by whose forfeiture they were taken into the king’s hand, 28 December, 18 Edward II.
CUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Aspatrik on Thursday before Whitsunday, 18 Edward II.
Neuland in Bolton and Uckemanby. The said Robert was seised of the abovesaid manor and lands for five years and more after he married the said Isabel, and could dower her thereof. He enfeoffed Thomas de Kirkebythore, chaplain, thereof, who enfeoffed Walter de Hurreworth, and he Roger de Staynehop, and he John de Harcla and Ermegerda his wife and Henry their son to hold to them and the heirs of the said Henry. The said John did not enfeoff Andrew de Harcla, who on the said John’s death, before he was buried, intruded upon the same and held them until by his forfeiture they were taken into the king’s hand.
The said Robert died on Friday the feast of All Souls last at Crosseby Ayleward. The said Isabel never remitted her right. The manor is held of Sir Alexander de Moubray by service of a pair of gilt spurs, and the carucate of land is held of Sir Anthony de Lucy by service of 4s. yearly for cornage.

635. JOHN JOCE.
Writ of certiorari to John Denum and John Bever, on the petition of Thomas son of the said John Joce for livery of two messuages and lands &c. in Stanstede Abbots and Hunesdon, co. Hertford, and two messuages and 60a. land in Suthwerk, co. Surrey, which John de Lyston by fine levied in the king’s court in his second year, surrendered to John Joce and Christiana his wife, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of the said John, which lands by reason of the contrariency of the said John were taken into the king’s hand, 12 March, 18 Edward II.

Stanstede Abbots and Hunesdon. Two messuages, 200a. land, 16a. meadow, 8a. pasture, 4a. wood, and 9s. rent, were granted as abovesaid by the said John de Lyston, to the said John Joce and Christiana &c. who were seised thereof until the said Christiana died on Sunday after the Purification, 12 Edward II, at Stanstede Abbots, and the said John held them until Monday the feast of St. Lucy, 15 Edward II, when they were taken into the king’s hand because it was said that the said John was adhering to Bartholomew de Badellesmeer the king’s enemy; but he died on the journey to Scotland in the king’s company in the (king’s) 16th year; whereof, a messuage, 40a. land, 4a. meadow, 4a. pasture, and 7s. rent in Stanstede Abbots are held of the abbot of Waltham Holy Cross by service of 17s. 4d., and suit at his court of Stanstede, and the residue of the tenements are in Hunesdon and are held of John Engayne by service of 12s. 8d. yearly.
Thomas son of the said John and Christiana, aged 22 and more, is his heir.

Writ of certiorari to Hamo de Chiggewell and Robert de Swaluclif, to enquire whether the said John, who bore the robes of Bartholomew de Badelesmere, was adhering to him in his rebellion, as is said, or died in the king’s fealty &c., 25 March, 19 Edward II.
LONDON. Inq. Wednesday before St. Alphege, 19 Edward II.
The said John was never adhering to the said Bartholomew, nor convicted of that or any other felony, but died in the king’s peace at Newcastle upon Tyne, on Monday before St. Michael, 16 Edward II. His messuage, which is in the king’s hand by reason of the (alleged) adhesion aforesaid, is held of the king in chief as a free burgage by service of 5d. socage yearly to be paid to the sheriff of London, in aid of the farm of the city.
Thomas his son, aged 22 and more, is his next heir, lawfully begotten of Christiana his wife, daughter of Sir John de Liston, knight.

Writ of certiorari to Gilbert Talbot and others, on the petition of John Rous, to enquire whether the said Richard held his lands &c. in Harsecoumbe on the day of his death, of the said John and not of the king, or not, 14 June, 18 Edw. II.
GLOUCESTER. Inq. Friday after St. Matthew, 19 Edward II.
Harescombe. The said Richard and his ancestors held a messuage and 1/2 virgate of land of John le Rouse and his ancestors, time out of mind, by service of 1/10 knight’s fee, and 7s. 8d. yearly, and not of the king or his progenitors, and the said John &c. were accustomed to take an ox as a herriot after the death of the said Richard and his ancestors.

637. THOMAS DE ALTA RIPA.
Writ of plenius certiorari to William de Tatham and others, on the petition of Margaret late the wife of the said Thomas for her dower out of the manor of Hapton, co. Lancaster, which her husband after he married her alienated to Gilbert de Leghe, and he to Edmund Talebot, after whose death, by reason of the minority of his heir, the wardship came to the hands of Henry de Lacy, sometime earl of Lincoln, whose executors demised the same to Robert de Holand, and it was taken into the king’s hand through his forfeiture, 13 June, 18 Edward II.
LANCASTER. Inq. Thursday after St. Peter ad Vincula, 19 Edward II. (defaced.)
Hapton. The said Thomas was seised in fee of the manor long after he married the said Margaret, so that he could dower her, until about the feast of All Saints, 30 Edward I, when by his charter he enfeoffed thereof one Gilbert de La Legh and his heirs for ever; who was seised thereof for half a year and more until H. de Lascy, sometime earl of Lincoln, the chief lord, entered upon the manor, whether by the deed of the said Gilbert or not is unknown to the jury. And the said earl afterwards enfeoffed Edmund Talbot to hold to him and his heirs, who died seised thereof, and after his death by reason of the minority of John son and heir of the said Edmund the earl seized the manor into his hands as wardship. After the earl’s death his executors demised the wardship of the manor to Robert de Holand until the lawful age of the said heir; and the said Robert yearly delivered one third of the farm and rents of the whole manor to (Joan) late the wife of the said Edmund, as dower. The said wardship came to the king’s hands through the forfeiture of the said Robert, and the said Joan (has continued to receive?) the third part yearly by the hand of the farmer of the manor, by the demise of Simon de Baldreston and his associates assigned by the king for the demise of forfeited lands. The manor was held of Thomas, late earl of Lancaster, and is now held of the king, by service of 1/4 knight’s fee; and the said Margaret has not yet been dowered out of it because the keeper dared not do so without the king’s special precept. She has not in any way remitted or forfeited her dower.
The said Thomas died on Sunday after All Saints, 18 Edward II.
