Great Giddyngg. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by serjeanty of destroying vermin in the king’s forests in cos. Huntingdon, Northampton, Oxford, Essex and Rutland; and 40a. land held of the king by service of 7 1/2d. yearly.
Dillyngton. The manor (extent given), held jointly with Helen his wife [to them] and the heirs of the said John, of the abbot of Rameseye by service of a knight’s fee.

Blatherwyk. The manor (extent given), held jointly for life by the said John and Helen with remainder to John son of Nicholas de Engayne, by the enfeoffment of Roger de Stokes and Thomas de Ardern by fine levied in the king’s court, of Ralph Basset of Weldon by service of 1/3 knight’s fee.
Laxton. Thirty-four bovates of land, 40a. wood in the king’s forest, a windmill &c., held of the king in chief by grand serjeanty, by service of finding running dogs for destroying wolves, foxes, cats and other vermin, at his own charges, as well within parks as without, in cos. Northampton, Rutland, Oxford, Essex, Huntingdon and Buckingham; and a messuage and 16 bovates of land, held jointly as above, for life, by the enfeoffment of Thomas de Ardern and Henry de Stradbrok, with the king’s licence, with remainders to Nicholas brother and heir of the said John, and to John his son, by grand serjeanty, viz.—by the service aforesaid.
Pitchesle. Eleven bovates of land, held of the king in chief by the grand serjeanty aforesaid; a messuage and 16 bovates of land, held jointly for life, as above, by the enfeoffment of Thomas de Ardern and Henry de Stradbrok; and 33s. 6d. and 1lb. pepper rent, similarly held of the abbey of Peterborough by knight’s service.
Bollewyk [alias Bulwyk]. Eleven bovates of land, held of the king in chief of the fee of Montgomery by service of a pair gilt spurs; and 9 bovates of land held jointly as above, for life, by the enfeoffment of Thomas de Ardern and Henry de Stradbrok, of the king in chief by knight’s service.

Warsop and Ekering. The manors, excepting the advowsons of the churches, held for life of John de Sutton by his demise and with reversion to him and his heirs, service unspecified.
Ekering. 10 marks rent from tenants of John de Stirchesle, held of the said John de Stirchesle with condition that if the said John de Stirchesle, or his heirs shall pay 40 marks within four years from the feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr last, the said rents shall revert to him and his heirs, but if not, they shall remain to the said John de Somery and his heirs.
His sisters, Margaret the wife of John de Sutton, aged 30, and Joan late the wife of Thomas Botetourte [alias de Buttetourt], aged 29, are his [next] heirs.
WARWICK. Inq. 8 September, 16 Edward II.

Writ of certiorari on the complaint of Philip, son of Roger de Englefeld, that certain lands in Hemele and Swyndon, which his father demised to John de Sumery for life only, had been taken into the king’s hand, 12 June, 16 Edward II.
STAFFORD. Inq. the eve of St. James, 17 Edward II.
Hemeleye and Swyndon. Seven years ago the said Roger demised certain lands &c. there to John de Somery for life, with reversion to the said Roger and his heirs, viz.—3 virgates of land, 10a. wood, and 30s. rents and services, in Hiumeleye, and 33s. rents and services in Swyndon. And immediately after the said John’s death, the said Philip entered upon the said tenements, and was seised of them until the keepers of the said John’s lands thereto assigned by the king ejected him, and thus they are in the king’s hand. The lands of Humeleye are held of the heirs of John de Somery for 1/3 knight’s fee, and those in Swyndon are held of Thomas de Overtone for 1/5 knight’s fee.

Wrastlingworth. A hide of land held of Maud Brian by service of 1/5 knight’s fee, whereof Isabel late the wife of Alexander Crokedaik, uncle of the said John, whose heir he was, holds a third part in dower.
John, son of Robert de Hereford, aged 8 years and 5 months, is his next heir, for Adam de Crokedaik his grandfather had two daughters, Juliana from whom came the said John Hereford, and Alice, but whether the said Alice survives or has any issue is unknown to the jury.

Two parts of a messuage, 4l. rent, 40a. arable, and 2a. pasture, held by the said John; and a third part of the said messuage, 40s. rent, 20a. arable and 1a. pasture, are held by Isabel the wife of William le Engleys of Paxton, in dower, after the decease of Alexander Crokedaik; the said John held the tenements aforesaid of the king in chief by the forfeiture of Sir Robert de Brus by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
John, son of Robert son of Roger de Hereford, aged as abovesaid, is his next heir as to a moiety, and as for the other moiety the daughters of Robert de Castel Carok, ages unknown, are heirs.

Glassanby. Lands &c. (full extent given with names of tenants), including a plot of land called Michelland and a cottage called ‘le Grene,’ held of the king in chief by homage and fealty and by service of 9s. yearly for cornage, as above.
Caldebek. A plot of land called Grenrigg, held of Anthony de Lucy by fealty only.

Suthbirlyngham. The manor.
Malteby, Fyleby, Harnyngby, Stokesby, Runham, Martham, Ormesby and Tunstale. Two messuages, 60a. land, 4a. meadow, 2a. turbary, 20a. salt marsh, 20a. rushes, 4s. rent, and 4 bushels of salt; held of divers other lords by divers services.
All which descended to John de Elmyngham and James Rythwys, his kinsmen and two of his heirs, issuing from two of his sisters, and to Christiana, Ela married to Oliver atte Mowe, Joan, and Alice married to James de Qwytewell, his other sisters and heirs: but before the partition between the said heirs was made, by the king’s licence or by fine levied in the king’s court, the said John granted his pourparty to the said James Rythwys and to Robert Brian; the said Christiana enfeoffed of her pourparty one Walter de Qwytewell, who granted the same to the said Christiana and James de Qwytewell and Alice his wife, and to the heirs of the same James; the said Joan granted her pourparty to the said Christiana, James and Alice &c. as above; and the said James and Alice granted their pourparty to Walter de Qwytewell, who granted the same to the said Christiana, James and Alice, &c. as above.
Whereupon partition was made (extent given with names of tenants) between the abovesaid heirs and purchasers, viz.—Robert Brian; Christiana, James and Alice &c.; James Rythwys; and Oliver atte Mowe and Ela.

KENT. Inq. Tuesday after the Ascension, 16 Edward II.
Sheldwich and Sellingge [by Badelesmere.] A messuage, 71 1/2a. land, and 3 1/2a. and 1r. wood, held in gavelkind tenure. The said messuage land &c. are in the king’s hand by reason of the forfeiture of Bartholomew de Badelesmere, to whom they came partly by the demises of William Child, Robert de Selgrave, Thomas de Grobbindane and Richard de Sellingge, and part he purchased of Ralph de Sellingge and Richard his brother. The said messuage, 38 1/2a. land, and 3a. and 3r. wood, are held of the abbot &c. of Faversham by fee, suit at his court of Faversham, and by service of rendering 16s. yearly; 27a. land are held of the heirs of Richard de Rokesle by fee, and rendering 9s. yearly; and 6a. land are held of the prior of the hospital of lepers of Poukeleshale by fee, and suit at his court of Shipherst, and rendering 21 1/4d. yearly. By the gavelkind custom of Kent the said Idonia ought to be dowered of a moiety of the said lands &c.

432. THOMAS DE LANGEDON.
Writ of certiorari on the complaint of Elizabeth, late the wife of Andrew [Loterel], that the manor of Whitewell, whereof they had enfeoffed the said Thomas for life, [with remainder to themselves and] their heirs, had been taken into the king’s hand because the said Thomas was adhering to the king’s enemies, as was said ………, 16 Edward II. Whitewelle. The manor, held of Stephen de Hakcome by service of 1d. yearly. Warin de Raleghe enfeoffed Andrew Loterel and Elizabeth his wife of the manor, to hold to them and their heirs for ever, and the said Andrew gave the same to Thomas de Langedon for life. The said Thomas died by a natural death at Bathe on the eve of St. Andrew last.
