Uppeton. The manor (full extent given), including the right (dominium) of having a boar and a bull feeding in the field of Uppeton at his will, and a free tenant in Herleston, held of the king in chief, by service of being an armed knight in the king’s army within the four seas for forty days at his own charges.
Thomas his son, aged 60 and more, is his next heir.
Assignment of dower to Juliana late the wife of the said Henry, viz:—a third part of the manor of Uppeton (extent given), specifying the rooms, &c. with free entry and exit by the great gate, &c. reciting writ, dated 28 Feb. 2 Edw. II.

Sir John de Walkingham, son of Alan de Walkingham and the said Eva, aged 24, is next heir of the said Eva.

Wirlyngton. A capital messuage, 5a. meadow, 20a. wood, 68a. arable, 60a. heath, rents, &c.; which tenements were sometime in the seisin of Peter de la Hay, from whom they descended to Eustachia his niece, whom William de Ros married, after whose death the fee and right descended to the said William de Cantilupo her son and heir, but the lordship remained in the hand of the said William de Ros by the courtesy of England, who afterwards demised the same to the said William de Cantilupo, but whether for life or for a term of years is unknown to the jury, and he was in seisin until his death; they are held of the king in chief by barony, as part of the barony of Middelton which Joan de la Hay now holds, service unknown; and the said Joan holds certain tenements in Wirlyngton in dower, which ought to revert as the other two parts.

Eselburwe. The manor jointly held for life by the said William de Cantilupo and Eva his wife, who survives him, of William la Zuche by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, of the gift and enfeoffment of William de Roos and Eustachia his wife with other lands in cos. Lincoln and York, for 50l. to be paid to the said William and Eustachia yearly, with remainder to the said William and Eustachia for life, and remainder to the right heirs of the said William de Cantilupo for ever.

Wythcale. The manor, jointly held by the said William and Eva for life, of the enfeoffment of the said William and Eustachia, with other lands in cos. Buckingham and York (with remainders as above said), of William de la Zuche by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.

YORK. Inq. Sunday the feast of St. Thomas of Canterbury, 2 Edw. II.
Louthorp. A toft, 4 cottages, 15 bovates land, and a moiety of meadow called Fitlyng, and of a water-mill, held by the courtesy of England after the death of Cecily his wife.
Alburn. 6 tofts and 4 bovates land.
All held of Sir Nicholas de Menill by service of 1/4 knights’ fee.
Fynele. 6 tofts and 9 1/2 bovates land, held by the courtesy of England.
Museton. 6 tofts and 10 1/2 bovates land.
Fordon. 4 tofts and 8 bovates land.
All which sometime belonged to one Roger de Nevile, who held of Sir Gilbert de Gaunt; and from the said Roger they descended to Maud and Hawis, his daughters; from Maud descended her pourparty to Richard de Malebys her son, from him to William his son, and from him to Richard who now holds it; and from Hawis descended her pourparty to Simon (de Louthorp) her son, from him to Thomas his son, and from him to Margery and Cecily, his daughters; and from Cecily descended the right of her pourparty to Robert son of Robert de Heselerton, who now holds it and is aged 16. The said Hawis made Maud her sister her attorney for homage and service, by reason whereof the said Maud seised the pourparty of the said Hawis until the lawful age of Simon de Louthorp her son; and Richard de Malebis is seised of the above in wardship by reason of the minority of the said Robert, and the said Richard and his ancestors from the time of making the pourparty have always hitherto done service for themselves and their partners to Gilbert de Gaunt, and afterwards to Robert de Tateshale, as chief lords, viz.—1/2 knight’s fee.
Thorp by Ruddestane. A toft and 2 bovates land, held of Sir Robert de Bonington by foreign service.
Carethorp. A toft and 4 bovates land, held of Nicholas le Clerk of Bonington by foreign service.
Harpham. 4 tofts and 2 bovates land, held of Sir Roger de Somervile by foreign service.
He died on Thursday in the first week in Lent, 1 Edw. II. Robert his son, aged 16, is his heir.

A messuage, two water-mills, 1 carucate land, and 5a. wood, lately, by fine levied in the king’s court between John Scor the elder and the said Odo, granted to the said Odo for life, with remainder to John Scor the younger and Alice his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of the said Odo; all held of the heir of Richard de Cireceaus, who is in the king’s wardship, by service of 1/6 knight’s fee; except a water-mill held of the abbot of Neuland by a rent of 15d. yearly, and a moiety of the carucate of land, held of Odo Treverbyn by knight’s service; and there are there 20a. arable.
Alice his daughter, whom the said John Scor the younger married, aged 24 and more, is his next heir.

Balisdene in Aketone. A capital messuage, 120a. arable, 3a. meadow, 3a. pasture, 30a. wood, rents, &c., held by fee tail of the king in chief as of the honour of Peverell, which is in the king’s hand, by service of 1/3 knight’s fee, of the grant of John de Hodeboville his father, who thereof enfeoffed him and Maud his wife, lately deceased, by charter, to them and the heirs of their bodies for ever.
Walter son of the said John and Maud, aged 30 and more, is his next heir.
Aketone. Two parts of the manor, jointly held by the said John and Hillaria his wife, of the grant of Peter de Debenham and Roger de Hodebovyle by licence of the late king, to be held to them and the heirs of the said John, which, together with the third part of the manor which Agnes de Sandcroft holds in dower of the said John’s inheritance, are held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Peverell, for two parts of 1 knight’s fee; and after the death of the said Agnes the said third part ought to remain to the said Hillaria, together with the said two parts, for life, with remainder to the heirs of the said John, according to the form of a fine levied in the late king’s court between the said Peter and Roger and the said John and Hillaria.
Walter his son, aged 30 and more, is his next heir.
Writ of plenius certiorari on the complaint of the said Hillaria that two parts of the manor of Aketon, of which she was enfeoffed together with the said John, had been taken into the king’s hand, 18 Sept. 3 Edw. II.
SUFFOLK. Inq. 6 Oct. 3 Edw. II.
Peter de Debenham and Roger de Hodebovyle by licence of the late late King Edward enfeoffed John de Hodebovyle and Hillaria his wife of two parts of the manor of Aketone, to be held to them and the heirs of the said John; and the said Hillaria has had peaceful seisin thereof until the said John’s death. The whole manor is held of the king in chief by service of two parts of 1 knight’s fee.

A capital messuage, a moiety of a water-mill, 91a. land, 2a. meadow, a weir, rents &c. held for life, of the inheritance of Thomas son of the said Richard Aguylon, deceased, of the heirs of Robert de Tatteshale by service of 3 knights’ fees, but whether those fees are in the king’s hand or not, the jury know not.
Juliana, daughter of the aforesaid Thomas Aguylon, aged 3 and more, is next heir of the said Thomas.

130. BRIAN DE BROMPTON.
Writ of plenius certiorari super vero valore concerning the lands which were taken into the late king’s hand after the death of the said Brian, whose heirs are in the king’s wardship, 28 Nov. 2 Edw. II.
SALOP (sic). Inq. Saturday the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle, 2 Edw. II.
Ambareslyth, which is not a manor but a park pertaining to the manor of Stanegge, worth 20s.
Brompton manor. A messuage, 18a. arable, and a house with a bakehouse, which were of William Purs, and descended to the heirs of the said Brian by escheat.
HEREFORD. Inq. Friday after Christmas, 2 Edw. II. (defaced.)
Ashton by Leominster. A messuage, 21a. land, 5a. meadow, and 3s. rent, held by Richard Labaud (?), by the demise of Brian de Brompton grandfather of the said Brian, viz.—to the said Richard and the heirs of his body, who died without such heirs and the lands &c. reverted to the heirs of the said Brian, who were in the king’s wardship, by escheat.

Kynlet. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including parks called Wopark and Le Olde park, a foreign wood, and a salt-well in Wyc’, held of the late king in chief; which manor Sarra who was the wife of the said Brian held in dower after his death, and after her death it descended to his heirs.

131. EDMUND LATE BARON OF STAFFORD.

STAFFORD. Inq. Tuesday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 2 Edw. II.
Stafford, Bradeleye, and Madeleye. The manors (extents given), held jointly by the said Edmund and Margaret his wife, of the gift of Roger de Clungenford, clerk, who enfeoffed them jointly by charter, by the king’s licence, to be held to them and the heirs of their bodies; which manors, together with their manors in co. Warwick, are held of the king in chief by barony, viz.—by service of finding three armed men with barded horses for forty days at their own charges in his wars of Wales and Scotland whenever needed.
Norton in the Moors. A tenement sometime held of the king by knight’s service, which the said Edmund afterwards demised to William de la Mere for life, for 4 marks yearly.
He held nothing in the county in his demesne as of fee, on the day he died.
Ralph son of the said Edmund and Margaret his wife, aged 9, is his next heir.

STAFFORD. Inq. Tuesday after St. Bartholomew, 2 Edw. II.
The said Edmund, by licence from the late king, enfeoffed Roger de Clunford [alias de Clungenford], clerk, of the manors of Stafford, Bradeleye, and Maddeleye, who reenfeoffed the said Edmund and Margaret, to them and the heirs of their bodies, and they peacefully continued their seisin until the day of the death of the said Edmund.
