The manor, held of the king in chief, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, viz. with an armed man and unbarded horse, or two footmen, according to the custom of those parts, at his own charges for three days at the summons of the king’s bailiffs of Carmarthen whenever necessary, and doing suit at the county (court) of Carmarthen, and all his tenants on like summons ought to follow their lord or his bailiff for three days at their own charges.

CARDIGAN. Inq. made at Kermerdyn, 14 May, 2 Edw. II.
Llyswen [alias Leswen]. Lands &c. worth 100s. yearly, held of the king in chief, by service of a barded horse at the castle of Lanpadarn in time of war for three days at his own costs and afterwards at the king’s costs; which lands &c. were taken into the late king’s hand by reason of the minority of William the said John’s son, and now by his grant are in the wardship of Alice late the wife of the said John.
William his son, aged 22, is his next heir.

Leton. A messuage, 4 bovates land, and a wind-mill, held of the king in chief, by serjeanty of finding a man with a bow and three blunt arrows (pilettis) not feathered, for the guard of the castle of Shrewsbury for forty days whenever there shall be war between the king and the prince of Wales, at his own charges, and after the forty days he shall shoot the arrows into three parts of the castle and withdraw, unless the king wishes to retain him at his own cost; which serjeanty is rated at 40d., to be rendered yearly at the exchequer by the hands of the sheriff of Salop.

Two parts of a messuage, and 13 1/2a. land, held with other lands, &c. of the king in chief by service of conveying the king’s treasure from the castle of Shrewsbury to Wales in time of war once in a year, and rendering 3s. at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff of Salop; all which lands, &c. were in the king’s hand by reason of the minority of the said Richard, and are so now through his death.

CARDIGAN. Inq. Thursday after Holy Trinity, 2 Edw. II.
(Unspecified.) A commote and a half, and a ‘Westwa,’ held of the king in chief by the Welsh tenure ‘Pennaethium’ (?), viz.—by fealty and by service that he and all his tenants whenever necessary are bound to come at the summons of the king’s bailiffs for the expedition of the king and his bailiffs, for three days at their own charges, and he is bound to do suit at the court of Cardigan called the Welsh county (court); and after his death the king ought to have of his goods 100s. as heriot called ‘Ebedin’; and according to the custom of the Welsh his lands ought to be divided proportionally between his sons, nor can the king exact of them wardship or marriage.
His sons, Oweyn aged 11, and Thomas aged 10, are his next heirs.

Westherlesay. The manor (extent given), held of the bishop of Durham by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and doing suit at the bishop’s court at Alverton.

The manor (extent given), held by the said Simon, jointly with John his son, of William de Leybourne in chief by homage and service of 1lb. cummin yearly, of the enfeoffment of Philip de Say, who enfeoffed the said Simon and Lucy his wife and John, to them and the heirs of the body of the said John, so that if the said John should die without such heirs the tenement should descend to Maud his sister, and the heirs of her body, and if she should die without such heirs it should remain to the right heirs of the said Simon.
