Writ of certiorari to the executors of the will of Walter de Gloucester, late escheator of the late king, to examine his rolls and certify whether a partition, and what partition, was made of the said Henry’s lands between his heirs, who have proved their ages, 27 Jan. 7 Edw. II.
Endorsed with return that a partition was made, transcript whereof is sent herewith, viz.—

SOUTHAMPTON. Inq. 16 May, 7 Edw. II.
Westuderle. The manor (full extent given), including a wood in the forest of Bocholt, was sometime held jointly by the said Richard and Isabel, of the enfeoffment of Richard de Cardevill to them and the heirs of the said Richard de Buckesgate, of the king in chief by serjeanty of finding the king during war in England, viz.—at the commencement of the war, a man with hauberk, haqueton, iron cap, sword and lance, with an unbarded horse, for 40 days at his own charges, and by service of 5s. yearly by the hands of the sheriff of Southampton; and 4 1/3a. arable and 26a. pasture, held jointly as above, of the enfeoffment of the said Richard, in free socage of the heirs of Robert Waleraund by service of 15s. 2d. yearly.
Adam, son of the said Richard, aged 40, is next heir of the said Isabel.

Hauerkecote. The hamlet (extent given), held jointly by the said Hugh and Aline his wife, of the gift of William Canne who enfeoffed them by the king’s licence, to hold to them and the heirs of the said Hugh, of the king in chief as by escheat, by reason of the death of Roger de Bechlem, sometime earl of Shrewsbury, by service of finding a man with a bow, two arrows, and a bolt (petulio) in the king’s army against Wales, who on seeing the king’s enemies shall shoot his arrows at them and straightway return home with the bow and bolt.
Wheteneaston. The manor (extent given), held by the said Hugh of the earl of Arundell by service of 1 knight’s fee.
Great Wythiford. The manor (extent given), a moiety held by the said Hugh of the said earl by service of 1/2 knight’s fee at the castle of Ruton; and the other moiety held of Sir William le Boteler by service of finding a man with a lance at Wemne for 20 days when there shall be war in Wales, and if the garrison leave the castle he shall remain to guard the fire.
Little Wythiford. 5s. rent held of Thomas de Halghton, who is in the king’s wardship, by service of homage and fealty.
Thomas his son, aged 17 on the feast of the Purification last, is his next heir.

The manor (extent given), including a meadow called ‘Kynggishallemedewe,’ whereof Benedict vicar of Mendham holds the capital messuage, 80a. arable, and 1a. meadow, with fishery and pasture, by the demise of Roger de Huntyngfeld the said William’s father for life rendering 10l. yearly, held of Thomas earl of Lancastre by service of 1 knight’s fee and 10s. yearly for the guard of the castle of Lancaster.

SUFFOLK. Inq. Wednesday the eve of St. Luke, 7 Edw. II.
Horham. A messuage containing 5a., 105a. arable, 20a. wood, 3r. meadow, 15a. pasture, and 64s. 8d. customs, &c. held of. Sir John de Grey by service of a sparrowhawk or 2s. yearly; and 5 1/2a. land and a windmill, held of Peter Gernegan by service of 3s. yearly; and the said William enfeoffed Godfrey, chaplain of Estrudham, on Sunday before the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, for his life of 16a. land, 1 1/2a. meadow, and 39s. 5 1/4d. rent, pertaining to the manor of Horham, and 18s. 8d. of the farm of Rokisdon and Ketele, by service of a rose, and for celebrating for the said William’s soul in the chapel of St. Mary, Mendham, for his whole life; and the said William died the Thursday after seisin was made.

The manor (extent given), held jointly by the said William and Sibyl his wife, to them and the heirs of the said William, of the aforesaid Roger and Alice by the service aforesaid, together with rents in Boston (Sanctum Bothm); out of which rents 25s. 1d. are yearly payable to the said Roger and Alice, 6s. 8d. for sheriff’s aid, 60s. with a robe to John de Stykenay for life, 40s. with a robe to John de Beaufay for life, and 58s. 10d. with a robe to Clement de Knapton for life.

Writ to him holding the place of the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer, to examine the book of fees and other memoranda of the exchequer, and certify by what service the manor of Bokesworth, co. Cambridge, is held of the king, 1 July 7 Edw. II.
Endorsed with return, that it is found in the book of fees under the title of the barony of Picot, that Roger de Huntingfeld holds in Bokesworth 1/4 knight’s fee of the king in chief; and in the book called Domesday, in co. Cambridge, under the title of land of Robert Gernoun in Pipes-worth hundred, it is noted thus:—In Bochesworth Picot holds of Robert 3 1/2 hides upon the service which is due from the said manor of Bokesworth, or (from him) from whom it is held. Nothing else is found at the exchequer.

Thornham Parva. 1/2 knight’s fee, which Robert de Bosco held of the said Thomas, held of the king as of the honour of Eye.
Margaret de Maundeville was next heir of the said Thomas, and held the said tenements after his death, and because she died without heir of herself, Robert son of John Talenaz, aged 24 and more, is next heir of the said Thomas; which service was assigned to Margaret sometime countess of Cornwall in dower.
Shettisham. A house called ‘the hall’ (Aul’) in his capital messuage, held of the king in form aforesaid.
Shettisham, Sutton, Ramisholt, Alderton and Bauderseye. A messuage, besides the said hall, 80a. land, and 50s. rent, sometime held of the king in chief as of the honour of Eye by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and 10d. for the guard of the castle of Eye yearly always at the end of thirty-two weeks; which service was assigned in dower to the said Margaret de Clare sometime countess of Cornwall; which lands &c. the said Thomas gave to William de Maundevile and Margaret his daughter and the heirs of her body, with reversion to the said Thomas and his heirs, by reason of which alienation the said countess seised the said tenements, and for a fine of 10 marks regranted them to the said William and Margaret &c. and the said William and Margaret demised them to Thomas Randouf for the term of the said William’s life, rendering 5 marks yearly.

Molscroft. A messuage was held by the said Roger of the archbishop of York by service of 6d. yearly; a messuage held of the hospital of Kinnewaldgraves by service of 12d.; 7 bovates land held of William de la Wodehall by service of a sore sparrowhawk, and 4 bovates land held of the same William by service of 1d. yearly; and 1 bovate land held of William son of John de Staneley by service of 4s. yearly.
Le Scrubbes. 80 1/2a. land held of the said archbishop by service of 6d. yearly.
Walkyngton. A messuage and 3 bovates land, held of John, son and heir of Godfrey de Melsa, by knight’s service and 6s. yearly.
All which lands &c. came into the king’s hand by the death of the said Roger, and are now in the hands of Master John de Nassington by the king’s demise.

The following lands came to the king’s hand by the death of the said Roger:—
Butterwyck. 55a. meadow held of the king in chief by service of 1/100 knight’s fee; and a toft, 8 1/2a. arable, 4a. meadow, and 6s. rent, held of Ralph Takyll by foreign service.
Wilyngham. 3 bovates land held of the heirs of John de Parco by service of 18d. yearly.
Bliburgh. A moiety of a messuage, 3 bovates land, and 2s. rent, held of Roger de Nevill by knight’s service.
Oxcumbe. A croft and 6 bovates land, held of Philip de Kyma by service of 1/8 knight’s fee.
Agnes late the wife of the said Roger renders 2s. 0 1/2d. yearly for lands &c. in Coringham, Stretton, and Stowe, assigned in chancery to her as dower, which exceed the true extent of the dower.
All the said lands in Butterwyck are now in the hands of John de Crepping by the king’s commission, and those in Bliburgh, Wilyngham, and Oxcumbe, with the said rent of 2s. 0 1/2d., are in the hands of John de Rasen, clerk, by the demise of Hugh le Despenser, who had them from the king in satisfaction of certain debts.

Chiwton. The manor and hundred, held of the king in chief by service of 1/2 knight’s fee; which manor and hundred she alienated by the king’s licence to Master James de Mohun, who demised the same to her for life with remainder to Peter son of Reginald and the heirs of his body.

Sturmynstre Mareschal. A sixteenth part of a seventh part of the manor (extent given), together with a sixteenth part of the hundred of Losebergh, held of the king in chief by service of finding a sixteenth part of a seventh part of four men and one tythingman at the sheriff’s turn twice a year.
Wolveton. A moiety of the hamlet (extent given), jointly held by the said Joan for life with her son Reginald, by the enfeoffment of Aymer de Archiaco, of the king in chief by the above service.
Peter son of Reginald and of the said Joan, aged 40 and more, is her next heir of the said sixteenth part of the manor of Sturmynystre Mareschal; and the moiety of the said hamlet ought to remain to John son of Reginald and the heirs of his body, after the deaths of the said Joan and Reginald.
