Berkeswelle. The manor (extent given), acquired from Sir Richard de Edmundevile, who held of the earl of Warwick by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and by service of guarding the castle of Warwick in time of war for forty days at his own charges.

Shene. 200a. arable, 12a. meadow, a pasture in a little island of the Thames called ‘la Wynyard,’ 52s. 2d. assised rent of 6 free tenants, 30s. 1d. assised rent of 13 customers, and autumn works worth 23s. 8 1/2d. yearly, held, by the courtesy of England of the inheritance of Alice his wife, of the king in chief by the grand serjeanty of being one of the king’s butlers (pincernis), which serjeanty was commuted in the time of king John for 4s., to be paid yearly at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the king’s bailiffs of Kyngeston at Michaelmas, for all service; and a messuage with garden, 20a. land and 1a. meadow, similarly held of Otto de Grandisono by service of 6d. yearly.
He held no other lands &c. on this side Trent.

Bluntesdon. A carucate of land (extent given) held of John Golafre by service of 1/5 knight’s fee.

Little Milton. A capital messuage, 4 virgates of land, 8a. meadow, 5 virgates of land which Walter le Norreys holds in vilenage rendering 16s. yearly, and 3 cottars rendering 12d. each, held of Laurence de Louches by knight’s service, doing scutage for an eighth part of 1/2 knight’s fee; 12 1/2a. land in socage, 2a. meadow, and pasture for 2 oxen or cows, held of John Marmyun of Little Milton by service of 1/2d. yearly; and 30s. rent held of the heirs of John le Botiller, son of Robert le Botiller of Castre, rendering a root of ginger yearly.

Estwick. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held jointly by the said Roger and Joan his wife, by the feoffment of Richard Tany, father of the said Roger, to them and the said Roger’s heirs, of Lady Joan Wak and the heirs of John Wak sometime her husband, service unspecified.
He died on Monday before St. Bartholomew in the year abovesaid.

BERKS. Inq. made at Neuwebury on Saturday after St. Barnabas, 29 Edw. I.
Pusemere. A messuage &c. 192a. arable, 27a. enclosed wood, and rents (extent given with the names of two free tenants), including 2 cottars who pay their rent to Alice Darches who holds a third part of the town of Pesemere in dower, held of the heir of Brian de Brauntton by service of two parts of a knight’s fee; and 10s. are rendered yearly to the prioress of Goring (Garigges), and 4s. 10d. hidage to the king. He held no other lands in the bailiwick.

William son of Thomas Pipard, who died a minor and in the king’s wardship, held nothing of the king in chief in the county, but:—
Hyntlesham. A capital messuage &c. 180a. arable, 3a. meadow, 3a. pasture, 80a. wood, 30 free tenants rendering 4l. yearly, and pleas &c. of court, were held by the said Margery in dower as of his inheritance, of the king in chief by service of a sore sparrow-hawk, or 2s. yearly at the king’s exchequer.
John son of William Pypard, uncle of the aforesaid William son of Thomas deceased, aged 28 and more, is next heir of the said William deceased.

Wyngrave. A close with curtilage, 2 free tenants rendering 6s. 7d. yearly, 4 customers rendering 37s. 1 1/2d. yearly, and 3 cottars rendering 4s. yearly, held by the said William son of Thomas of the king in chief as of the honour of Walingfford by service of a knight’s fee, and doing suit at his court of Walingfford every month; 63a. arable, 8 1/2a. meadow, 2s. 11d. rent of a free tenant, 20 customers holding 10 1/2 virgates of land in vilenage, rendering 5l. 5s. yearly, and 5 cottars rendering 12s. 9d. yearly, held by the said Margery, late the wife of Edmund Pipard, in dower, as of the inheritance of the said William, of the fee aforesaid; and 14s. rent from two tenants, held by Margery, late the wife of Thomas Pipard a Norman, father of the said William, in dower of the same fee and inheritance.

Slengesby, Northolm, Colton [and Shireburn]. Certain lands &c. held of John, son and heir of Roger de Mubray, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by service of a knight’s fee, viz.:—
Slengesby. A capital messuage, 18 bovates of arable land and 18a. meadow in demesne, a several pasture, 5s. rent from free tenants (named), 9l. 8d. rent from bondmen (named), 63s. 8d. rent from cottars (named), 2 water-mills under one roof, a wind-mill, woods called ‘le Fryth’ and Thurkelwode, and pleas &c.
Northolm. 4s. rent from 4 bovates of land which James de Northolm holds.
Colton. A messuage and 30a. waste, which are worth nothing.
Shireburn. 37s. rent from 3 carucates of land held by the heir of Robert de Everingham.
Slengesby. Three bovates of land and 6a. meadow held of the heir of John Wake by homage and doing suit at his court of Buttercramb every three weeks.
Nonewykethornes. 2 marks rent held of the archbishop of York by homage and suit at his court of Ripon every three weeks, to be received from the hamlet of Nonewykethornes which Walter de Nonewykethornes holds.
William his son, aged 26 at Easter last, is his next heir.

Welleford. The manor (extent given), including a several pasture called Morewellesewe, another pasture called Depedene, a water-mill called Twynham, a ruined water-mill called Newemilne, and a market let to farm, held of the heir of Roger de Moubrai, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by service of 1 1/2 knight’s fee. And there are 6l. 13s. 4d. of rent to be paid to one William son of Alan for life, of the gift of the said John.

Cherletone by Spestesbyry. A messuage &c. and 3 virgates of land, and there are there 72a. arable, 4a. meadow, a common pasture, and rents (extent given with names of tenants), held of the abbot of Préaux (de Pratellis) by service of rendering to him 8 marks yearly; and a free tithing, whose profit in views of frank pledge and pleas and perquisites (of courts?), which are held six times a year only, is worth 36s., 70a. arable, 3a. meadow, and 8s. rent from 2 free tenants (named), held of the heir of John de Boun, lord of Midhurste, by service of doing homage only.
Maurice his son, aged 21 and more, is his next heir.
SOUTHAMPTON. Inq. 15 April, 29 Edw. I.
Fordingebrigg alias Forde. The manor (extent given) held, jointly with Iseult his wife, by the king’s feoffment, of the king in chief, as of the honour of Camel, now in the king’s hand, by service of 1/3 knight’s fee.
