LINCOLN.	Inq. made at Horncastre, 4 June, 35 Edw. I.
	Polum. A capital messuage, 80a. arable, 3a. meadow, 2 customers who hold 2 bovates, and render 13s. 4d. yearly, do (specified) works and give 3 cocks and 9 hens at Christmas, and 70 eggs at Easter, 8 cottars who render 20s. 6d. 7 of whom do 14 autumn works, and 7 hens at Christmas, held of the king in chief as of the barony of ‘Gaunt,’ which is in the king’s hand, by service of 1/5 knight’s fee and suit at the king’s court of Folkingham every three weeks; and 16a. arable and 10a. wood, held of the earl of Lincoln by service of 12d. yearly and of 1/10 knight’s fee. Horsinton. A bovate and a half of arable land, and 4 1/2a. 1r. meadow, held of William de Belesby by service of 1/12 knight’s fee, and by rendering to him 8d. yearly for the said meadow; a bovate of land held of Philip de Withren, service unknown; and six tenements held in villenage, tenure and service unknown, which render 21s. 9d. yearly, works &c. Asqeby alias Askeby. Certain lands held by tenants who pay 105s. 2 1/2d. rent, and pleas &c. of court worth 2s., held of Ranulph de Neville by service of 1/3 knight’s fee. Barkeworth. A messuage, 84a. arable, and 3a. meadow, held of the heir of John de Worth, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by service of 2s. 4d. yearly and suit at the said John’s court of Barkworth every three weeks; two bovates of land held of the same heir, as of the barony of Scoteny which is in the king’s hand, service unknown; a bovate of land held of Nicholas Tuchet by service of 12d. yearly; and two bovates of arable land held of John de Orreby by service of … yearly. Herpeswell. A capital messuage, 8 bovates of arable land containing 128a., 6a. meadow, and 51s. 7d. rent of free tenants, held of William le Breton, knight, by service of a pair of spurs worth 6d. at Easter; and a tenement held by a free tenant who pays the aforesaid Robert half a mark yearly, held of John de Redeborne, service unknown. He held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick. Ralph his son, aged 10 years and more, is his next heir.
	Writ to the escheator to enquire whether the barony of ‘Gaunt’ is in the king’s hand as of the crown, and whether the aforesaid Robert held elsewhere of the king in chief, or not, 15 June, 35 Edw. I.
LINCOLN.	Inq. made at Wraggeby, 1 July, 35 Edw. I.
	The barony of ‘Gaunt’ is not in the king’s hand as of the crown but by reason of a feoffment which Gilbert de Gaunt, who once held the barony of the king in chief, made thereof to the present king. The said Robert held no lands or tenements of the king in chief as of the crown.

BERKS.	Extent 24 Feb. 35 Edw. I.
	Finchamstede. A capital messuage, 80a. arable, 4a. meadow, 3a. several pasture, a common pasture, 10a. wood, 64s. 4d. rent of free tenants, 49s. 10 1/2d. rent of villeins and their works worth 43s. 5d., held of the inheritance of Agatha sometime his wife, of Robert Achard by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. Peter, son of the said Peter and Agatha, aged 24 and more, is their next heir.
WILTS.	Inq. taken at Chyppenham, 24 Feb. 35 Edw. I.
	Roudone. The manor (full extent given), including four small sokemen (parvi sokemanni) who render 53s. 4d. yearly, and 37 cottars belonging to the manor in the town of Chyppenham, two fulling mills, and a fishery for eels in the Aven about Michaelmas, held of the king in chief at fee farm by service of rendering 7l. 10s. yearly, which farm has been assigned by the king to the present queen. Peter his son, aged 21 and more, is his next heir.

WESTMORLAND.	Inq. made at Appelby on Thursday before St. Gregory, 35 Edw. I.
	Kendal. A moiety of the barony of Kendal, except the vale of Kentmer, held at one time of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee; out of which moiety of the barony she enfeoffed:—Roger de Lancastre of the vale of Ridale to hold of the king in chief by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, whereof he has the king’s charter; William de Ros, her son, of the castle of Kirkeby in Kendal with a fourth part of the town of Kirkeby and with the hamlets of Hoton, Haye, Scalthaytrige, Stirkeland Randolf, and Grenrige, with 45a. land of the demesne of Helsington, and the tenures of William son of Adam and Henry de Wytfalhevd in Hogayl, with the mills of the castle (?) (de Castro), Hoton, Grenrige, Styrkeland Randolfe and Dillaker, and a moiety of the mills of Patton, Grarige and Respton, to hold to him and the heirs of his body, with remainder to Marmaduke de Thweng and his heirs, of the king in chief by service of a moiety of three parts of a knight’s fee, whereof the said William has the king’s charter of confirmation, and a fine was levied between him and the said Margaret, so that she had no fee or free tenement therein; Marmaduke de Thweng of the manor of Helsington except 45a. of demesne, a fourth part of the town of Kyrkeby in Kendal with the hamlets of Hogayl and Stavelay except the tenures of William son of Adam and Henry de Wytfalhefud in Hogayl, a moiety of the hamlets of Crosthayth, Gresmer and Langden, and the mill of Helsington with a moiety of the mills of Crosthayth, Respton, Gresmer and Langden, to hold to him and the heirs of his body, with remainder to William de Ros and his heirs, of the king in chief by service of a moiety of three parts of a knight’s fee, whereof the said Marmaduke has the king’s charter of confirmation, and a fine was levied between him and the said Margaret, so that she had no fee or free tenement therein. Margaret and Isabel, daughters of Robert de Ros of Werk, aged 15 and 12 respectively, are her next heirs in blood.

DEVON.	Inq. made at Toriton, 4 Aug. 35 Edw. I.
	Nymyd St. George. 46s. 2d. rent from free tenants of Walter de Sully. Toriton manor. 75s. 8d. rent from free foreign men of the same Walter. Kylmeton. 32s. 5d. rent from free tenants of the same Walter. Lyw. 45s. 9d. rent from free tenants of the same Walter. All held jointly by the said Guy and Sibyl his wife, by the enfeoffment, with the king’s licence, of Walter de Sully one of the heirs of the barony of Toriton, to hold in free marriage, to them and the heirs of their bodies, by service of a rose yearly; with reversion, if the said Sibyl should die without heir of her body, to the said Walter and his heirs. The barony of Toriton is held of the king in chief, and all the aforesaid rent was, before the said enfeoffment, as foreign rent pertaining to the said Walter’s pourparty of that barony. The jury know the said rents &c. were alienated in form aforesaid, because they have seen the tenants, who say that they have attorned to the said Guy and Sibyl concerning the said rents &c. by the king’s precept. Guy, son of the said Guy, aged 24, is his heir begotten of the said Sibyl.

ESSEX.	Inq. made at Colecestre, 2 July, 35 Edw. I.
	Rowenhal alias Rywenhale. A moiety of a manor (extent given) held by the said John of the king in chief as of the honour of Boulogne by service of the serjeanty of finding in the king’s war, together with another his parcener, a man [with] a horse at their own charges for forty days; and 41a. land held of William de Carleton in Falkeburn, rendering 5s. yearly, 3a. land held of John Page by service of 3d., 8a. land held of Robert de Scales by service of 1d., 5a. land held of Richard Colemon by service of 1d., and 11a. land held of Beatrice de Essex and William Coyntrel by service of 3d., of all of which he was enfeoffed jointly with Alice his wife, who continued her seisin until his death. Ardlee. A manor (extent given) held by the said John of the earl of Hereford by service of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick. William his son, aged 16 and more, is his next heir.

	Swinehoppe. A capital messuage &c., a water-mill, 296a. arable, 30a. meadow, 8 free tenants, 2 tenants who hold 2 bovates of land at will, 17 tenants in villenage, a customer who holds half a bovate of land, 5 cottars, and pleas &c. of court, held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee, and by rendering yearly for two parts of the said lands &c., 10s. to the earl of Richmond for castle guard. William his son, aged 17, is his next heir.
LINCOLN.	Inq. made at Kirketon in Kesteven, 10 June, 35 Edw. I.
	Billingeye. A capital messuage with a ‘ker,’ 48a. arable, 37a. pasture in the marsh, a booth (selda) on the Wime in the said marsh which is worth for the ferry across the river 3s. yearly, a fishery, 2 free tenants, a free tenant who holds a toft and a bovate of land for life, 4 customers, 2 cottars, and pleas &c. of court, tenure unknown. The said Philip enfeoffed Roger Bernak of Humberstain and Maud his wife and the heirs of their bodies by charter, in 50s. yearly to be received from these tenements until he had paid them 50 marks Stirling in one payment (una vice). Heir as above.

	Skraifeld. 6l. 17s. 5 1/4d. rent from 8 free tenants, 11 customers each holding a messuage and a bovate of land, and 4 cottars (named), held of the earl of Lincoln by service of 1/4 knight’s fee. Heir as above.

A messuage &c., a moiety of 3 water-mills, 10a. meadow, 160a. arable, 2 woods, 1/2 mark rent from Peter de Agberwe a tenant by royal service, 8l. 11s. 4d. rents of tenants (named) who hold by homage and socage, 23s. 5 1/2d. rent sec from tenants (named), 115s. rent from 63 burgesses holding freely by socage, 7s. 10d. from cottars and 10s. 8d. from customers (named), 107s. 11d. rent from (other) customers, 1 mark chevage (capitagium) with ‘medueselver,’ and pleas &c. of court with toll, held of the king in chief by service of 1/9 knight’s fee. John his son, aged 5 on 26 March in the year abovesaid, is his next heir.
SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Fordyngbrygge, 17 May, 35 Edw. I.
	Rokeberne alias Rokeburne. The manor (extent given), including 2 parks containing 100a. of great oaks, held of the king in chief by service of 1/9 knight’s fee; 3 cottars held as in free socage of John Coty by service of a rose; 2 cottars held in free socage of Peter le Bertevyle by service of a rose; 4a. meadow in Boyemed held in free socage of John de Burgate by service of 1/2d. rent yearly; 3a. great wood in ‘la Frythwode’ and 2a. marsh, held in free socage of Reyner (?) (Regño) de Tudeputte by service of a clove gillyflower; and 5a. meadow held in free socage of John Baldewyne by service of 16d. Elyngham. 2a. meadow held in free socage of John de Lyndwode by service of 1/2d. Gorle hamlet. A messuage and 33a. land held of John de Wroxale by service of rendering 1lb. pepper yearly; 10a. land held of Robert de la Hyde by service of rendering 6 1/2d. yearly; and 4a. land held of …… rendering nothing. And there are paid ….. yearly to William de la Hurne for his life, from whom he acquired the said tenements. Heir, John ……..

	Chapel Asshtone. Two carucates of land (full extent given with names of tenants), including pleas &c. of court, held of the abbess of Romesye in free socage by service of rendering 40s. yearly, and doing suit at her court every three weeks. 	Stupelaston. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants, who are all free, including the prioress of Stodleghe,) held of Sir William de Leybourn by service of a knight’s fee; and 4s. yearly ought to be paid to the sheriff for view. Heir as above, aged 30 and more.
BERKS.	Extent. 23 May, 35 Edw. I.
	Dynynton. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including 3a. meadow and a water-mill at Miggham held of the prior of Sandelford, and 2a. meadow in la Wydemede held of the abbot of Radyngs, held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Wallyngford, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee; and 22s. yearly ought to be paid from the mill of Migham to the prior of Sandelford. Heir as last above.
BERKS.	Extent, 24 May, 35 Edw. I.
	Enebourn. A capital messuage &c., 49a. arable, 4a. meadow, a common pasture, 3a. wood, and rents of free and customary tenants and cottagers (named), held of the abbess of Romeseye by service of 55s. yearly; which tenements James de Crawele and Agnes his wife had for their lives of the gift of the said Thomas, rendering 6 marks yearly, with reversion to his true heirs. 	Hevedehuth in the town of Westminster. A capital messuage with garden, and a plot of ground adjacent, held of the abbot of Westminster by service of 5s. 2d. yearly. Heir unknown because Idonea late the wife of the said Robert, who is pregnant by him, has not get given birth.
DERBY.	Inq. 29 March, 35 Edw. I.
	La Newehalle. The manor (full extent given with names of some customary tenants), including 3 fishponds (vivaria) parks called Boyle and Wlfay, a foreign wood called Malepert, a rabbit warren, and pits of sea coal (putei carbonum maris) worth 40s. yearly, held of Theobald de Verdun by service of 1/4 knight’s fee and doing the scutage pertaining to such a tenement when it occurs; and 11s. yearly ought to be paid to the abbot of Burton upon Trent. Joan his daughter by his first wife, whom Hugh Meynyl married, aged 32, and Margaret his daughter by his second wife, aged 9, are his next heirs.
LINCOLN.	Inq. 24 March, 35 Edw. I.
	Barton upon Humbre. Eight free tenants rendering 102s. 10d. yearly, and a bondman (nativus) rendering 22s. yearly, held of Reginald de Grey by service of a pair of gilt spurs yearly. Joan his daughter, aged 32, whom Hugh de Meynhill married, is his next heir apparent: Ida his wife is pregnant, but the jurors do not know whether it is of the male or female sex, before it is born.
LEICESTER.	Inq. 6 March, 35 Edw. I.
	Melton Mombray alias Mumbray. 67s. 8d. yearly rent (names of tenants given) and an oven with the suit thereof worth 53s. 4d., saving 1 mark which ought to be paid to the prioress and nuns of Staunford, held of the king in chief by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, doing the scutage due from such a tenement; which rent and oven he had of the enfeoffment of Roger de Mumbray to hold to him and his heirs; and 12s. yearly rent held of John de Monbray, rendering to him 1d. yearly. And the said Roger has retained the pleas &c. in his own possession. Heir as last above.
LEICESTER.	Inq. 5 March, 35 Edw. I.
	Burton Noveray. The manor (extent given with names of tenants), including a plot (placea) of meadow of gross hay called ‘la more,’ held of William de Ferariis by service of two parts of a knight’s fee, doing scutage when it occurs, as much as pertains to such a tenement, and suit of court every three weeks, rendering moreover 5s. yearly to Roger le Bret, and also to one Agatha de Herteshorn, one of the cottars of the manor, by his bond, for a tenement in Herteshorn which he bought of her, 1qr. of corn, price 4s., 1qr. of beans, price 3s., 1qr. of barley, price 3s., and 1qr. of oats, London measure, price 2s. Heir as last above.
LEICESTER.	Inq. 4 March, 35 Edw. I.
	Upton. The manor (extent given with names of tenants), whereof he held the capital messuage with 20 virgates of land in demesne of William de Ferariis by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, doing the scutage pertaining to such a tenement, and 12 virgates of land in demesne of Robert de Chaunpaygne by service of 1/3 knight’s fee and doing similar scutage. Heir as last above.
LEICESTER.	Assignment of dower to Ida late the wife of the said Robert de la Warde in the manor of Burton Noveray (details given with names of tenants), 15 April, 35 Edw. I (defaced).
LEICESTER.	Similar assignment of dower in the manor of Upton (details given with field names and names of tenants), …. 35 Edw. I.
	Writ of plenius certiorari on the complaint of Ida, late the wife of the said Robert, that the escheator had taken into the king’s hand the manor of Shupland, co. Essex, whereof Robert son of Walter her father had enfeoffed her jointly with her late husband, making no mention thereof in the extents returned into the chancery, 16 April, 35 Edw. I.
ESSEX.	Inq. 10 May, 35 Edw. I. Shopland. Robert son of Walter enfeoffed Robert de la Warde and Ida his wife of the manor, to hold to them and the heirs of the said Robert de la Warde, and they peacefully held it until the death of Robert de la Warde. It is held of the king, as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of a knight’s fee.
