OXFORD. Inq. 8 June, 34 Edw. I.
Aldebur(y). The manor (extent given) is held of Henry le Tyeys for 1/2 knight’s fee, doing scutage when it happens, and suit at the king’s hundred of Bolenden every three weeks. But the said John held no lands &c. in fee &c. in the county on the day he died, for one Peter Foliot granted the said manor to him by fine levied in the king’s court to hold of the chief lords &c. and he granted the same by fine levied in the king’s court in 15 days of Easter, 34 Edw. I to John le Despenser his nephew(?) (nepoti), to hold to him and his heirs for ever, who is still in seisin.
The said John le Despenser, aged 36 and more, is his next heir.
BERKS. Inq. 10 June, 34 Edw. I.
Knyghtelynton. The manor (extent given) held of Alexander de Ho for 1/2 knight’s fee, doing scutage when it shall happen, was at one time held by the said John, of his own acquisition of the gift of Richard de Coleworth, but he demised the same to one Peter Foliot and Agnes his wife, for their lives, who long after demised the estate they had therein to one John le Despenser, nephew of John de London, and the said John de London, with the assent of the said Peter and Agnes, quit claimed his right therein to the said John le Despenser and his heirs for ever, who is still in seisin.

Old Wyndesor and New Wyndesor. Long before his death the said John granted all his lands which he acquired of divers men there to Sir Edward, prince of Wales, viz.—126a. arable of arrented purprestures in the forest of Wyndesore held of the king, which render at the exchequer at 6d. per acre yearly; and the said prince re-feoffed the said John of all the lands &c. aforesaid for life, with remainder to himself and his heirs. And so the said John held nothing as of fee &c. on the day he died.
Memorandum by the escheator … he held … also the manor of Bladene, co. Oxford, for life of the king’s inheritance.

Barynton manor. 10a. meadow held of the heir of Elias de Albiniaco, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by service of 2s. yearly.
North Perret. A messuage, 32a. land, and 4a. meadow, held jointly with Maud his wife, of their own acquirement from Matthew le Frye, to hold to them and the heirs of the said Maud of Henry de Urtiaco, chief lord of that fee, service unspecified; and a virgate of land held jointly as above of their own acquisition from Maud la Frie, to them and the heirs of the said Maud (de Urtiaco), of Walter de Romesi by service of a rose yearly; and the said Maud continued jointly in seisin until the said Walter’s death.
Estherneshulle and Westherneshulle. Three messuages, 170a. land, 10a. meadow, and 11s. rent, held jointly as above, of their own acquirement from Philip le Ware, to hold to them and the heirs of the said Walter, of Cecily de Bello Campo by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, and the said Maud continued in seisin &c. as above.
Swelle and North Perret. The manors (extents given) held to him and the heirs of his body of Henry de Urtiaco, lord of Coryryvel, by service of 4d. yearly, viz.—2d. for Swelle and 2d. for Perrett.

Suthcote. Six hides of land, held jointly with Maud his wife who survives, by the gift &c. of John de Alre to them and their issue, of the abbot of Abindon by service of a knight’s fee, doing scutage when it shall happen, and to the same abbot 20s. 6d. yearly for the guard of the castle of Wynlesore, and 3 bus. of corn for churchscot (cherchetto); and there is there a freeman named John de la Hyde, who holds a hide of land of them by service of 1/7 knight’s fee doing to them scutage only when it shall happen, and 14 villeins holding the said 6 hides rendering 100s. yearly.

Glassameby. The manor (extent given with names of tenants) held of the king in chief by homage and 20s. cornage to the sheriff for the king’s use; and he rendered 13s. 4d. yearly rent to the prioress of Ermitthwait, and 3s. yearly to the prior of St. Mary’s, Carlisle.

Ifeud. A capital messuage &c., 297a. arable, 5a. 1r. salt meadow, 6a. 1r. several pasture, 19a. 1r. wood, and a windmill, held of the archbishopric aforesaid in chief by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, and there are due yearly to the heirs of William de Ifeud of Ston’ 7 marks, and at the manor of Northflete 72s. 1 1/2d.
Richard his son, aged 17 on 28 May last, is his next heir.
And he held in gavelkind of the archbishopric aforesaid 64a., 1 1/2a. meadow, 9s. 3d. rent, and rent of fowls, eggs and a plowshare, from whence there are due 18s. 9d. yearly rent at the manor of Northflete, and the reaping of 1a. 1/2r. and 1 daywerk of barley or twice as much wheat.
The aforesaid Richard and his brothers, Thomas aged 16 at the feast of St. Michael last, and John aged 13 on Friday after the Purification last, are his next heirs of the said gavelkind tenements.

The manor (full extent given with names of free tenants), including a messuage outside the town called ‘le Bolryn,’ a fishpond (stagnum), a market every Wednesday, two parts of 2 bovates of land which are the lord’s escheat by the death of Walter de Louthorp who held for life, 1/4 knight’s fee in Marton held by John de Marton by service of doing suit of court &c., a pasture called Erleseng with Castelgarth held by Robert de Boynton, and 14s. for a moiety of the toll on buying and selling fish and victuals at Fiuele because Richard de Malebys has the other moiety, held of the king in chief in barony, by service of doing suit at all the county (courts) of York yearly, and at the ‘thrythyng’ of Craikhou and at the wapentake of Dykeryng once a year.

Attleburgh. A moiety of a messuage &c. and of 60a. arable, 20a. meadow and a windmill, which were of William de Fossato, from which Alexander Oldman receives 13s. 4d. yearly for life; and a moiety of a messuage, and of 24a. arable and 6a. wood, which were of Nicholas de Burgo, from which the lady of Livermere receives 7s. 10d. yearly for life; and Beatrice late the wife of the said Nicholas holds the other moiety in dower.
All held of the king in chief as of the crown of England by service of being butler (pincerne).
Tybenham. The manor (extent given) pertaining to the barony of Tateshal which is held of the king in chief, service unknown; from which Walter de Bermynham receives 100s. yearly for life of the gift of Robert de Tateshal father of the aforesaid Robert.
Frethebrigg. The hundred, including 20s. rent from certain houses, with a fourth part of the tolbooth of Lenn, including a custom called ‘luscop’(?) and houses called Erleshuses, (extents given), held of the king in chief by service of 6s. 8d. blanchfarm yearly.

Tybenham. The manor (extent given), including pastures called Hynham and Martynesyerd, a pasture below the park, a wood called ‘le Park’ containing in circuit a league and a half, an alder grove, and a boscage opposite Westhawe: all other profits of the manor were extended by the former extent.

Pourparty delivered to Thomas de Cayly viz. the castle and a fourth part of the manor, viz.—A moiety of the great park and little park near the castle, of windmills called Skyrmanesmelle and the earl’s mill, a fourth part of the market and of a fair (ferie), a fourth part of turbary &c. of the fishery of Swanegeye and of a meadow by the castle, with the pond, rush bed, and fishery, a fourth part of a pasture called Roudykes, rents called ‘londgovl’ in New Bukenham (extent given with names of tenants). The rents &c. of the villeins are delivered to Joan de Driby and John and Isabel de Orreby in part recompense of their pourparties of the said parks. And the said Thomas occupied a moiety of a messuage, and 29 1/2a. 4 1/2p. arable lying within the gates of the park; and he has more of his own usurpation than he ought to have for a fourth part of the manor, to the value of 21s. 1/2d.
Pourparty of Joan de Dryby. Lands, rents &c. (extent given with field names and names of tenants), including a fourth part of the mills, and an eighth part of the market, fair, turbary, fisheries, pasture &c. abovesaid. And in recompense for an eighth part of the parks, certain lands and rents (extent given with field names and names of tenants). And there are deficient to her from an eighth part of the manor, 10s. 6 1/4d. and a quarter of a farthing, and because the king died full recompense could not be given her.
Pourparty of John de Oreby and Isabel his wife. Lands, rents &c. (extent given with names of tenants) and an eighth part of the market, fair &c. as in the pourparty of Joan de Dryby. And in recompense for an eighth part of the parks, certain lands, rents &c. (extent given with names of tenants). And there are deficient to them from (the eighth) part of the manor 10s. 6d. and half a farthing.
And there were delivered; to the said Thomas, a fourth part of the lands &c. which were of William de Fossato and of Nicholas de Burgo in Attelbourgh, a third part of the park of Tybenham, a third part of two parts of a fourth part of the profits of the Tolboth of Lenn, and 22s. 9d. yearly rent from John de Cove and Eva his wife.
To Joan de Dryby an eighth part of the abovesaid lands &c. in Attelbourgh, a like part (as above) of the profits of the Tolboth of Lenn, a wood called Shirwode, and 22s. 9d. rent (as above).
And to John and Isabel de Oreby, the manor of Tybenham, except a third part of the park assigned to the said Thomas, an eighth part of the abovesaid lands &c. in Attelbourgh, a third part of a fourth part (sic) of the profits of the Tolboth of Lenn, and 22s. (9d.) rent (as above).

The crop (vestura) of a third part of three woods, viz.—Shaterle, Lokhagh and Kirkeby Wode, to be cut and carried within 1 1/2 year from the delivery of seisin, so that the soil shall remain to the said Joan in part of her pourparty of the lands &c. of the 22s. 9d.[?] yearly rent to be received through the hands of John de Cove and Eva his wife, sometime the wife of the said Robert de Tateshall.
LEICESTER. Holwell and Ketelby. A third part of the lands &c.
[LINCOLN.] Boston. 2[6]s. 8d. yearly rent from the portion of the said Joan.
And the said Thomas and his heirs shall pay 33s. 4d. yearly for the life of Walter de Bernyngham to the said John and Isabel and the heirs of the said Isabel, in part payment of the 100s. which the said Walter receives for life from the manor of Tybenham (which is) assigned to the said John and Isabel; with power of distraint to the said John and Isabel, but after the death of the said Walter, the said Thomas and his heirs shall be wholly quit of the payment of the said 33s. 4d.
