Which tenements are in the hand of Simon de Monte Acuto by the king’s commission; they came to the king’s hand by the death of the said Walter Aungevyn on 14 Sept. 18 Edw. I.

Stallinge. A messuage &c., 40a. arable, 2a. meadow, 1a. pasture, 16s. 7 1/2d. assised rent, 1/2a. of grove, and pleas &c. of court, held of the prior of Newent in chief by service of riding in the prior’s service, whenever he will in England at the prior’s charges in all things.
Reuarthyne. 32s. 4d. rents of customers, and 2s. pleas &c. held of the king in chief by service of 4s. at the king’s castle of St. Briavell yearly on the day of St. Michael.
John his first born son, aged 13 years and 13 weeks, is his next heir.

Endorsed. The said Robert died three years and more before the issue of this writ. Moreover the escheator received another similar writ and has executed it so far as making inquisition goes and sent it into the chancery; but because Sir John de Buteturte keeper of the forest of Dene intermeddled with the said Robert’s lands &c. because they are within the said forest as pertaining to his bailiwick, the escheator has not intermeddled therein, nor made execution of this writ.

Weston. The manor (extent given), including a wood in the forest and a fishery, held of the inheritance of Amice his wife, who is yet living, of Sir Hugh de Oddingiselis by service of a knight’s fee.
The sheriff of Northampton ought to receive 2s. yearly to the king’s use from the toll of the town, and 8d. from an assart contained within the demesne lands.
The aforesaid Amice is the true heir of the manor and of full age.

Chaldeswelle. The manor held, together with Amice his wife, of the countess of Gloucester by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. The manor is of the inheritance of the said Amice, who survives.

Stephen de Loveraz, his uncle, aged 40, is his next heir.
SOUTHAMPTON. Inq. made at Wollop on Friday the morrow of St. Mark, 25 Edw. I.
Couelesfelde. 5s. rent held of the king in chief by service of hunting the wolf at the king’s charges, if one be found (qui inventus fuerit) in the county.
The forest of Claryndon. The keepership of Bokholte wood within the forest, held of the king in chief, by service of rendering 20s. yearly by the hands of the bailiff of Claryndon.

A manor (extent given) held of Joan countess of Gloucester [whose lands are in the king’s hand], by service of 6d. yearly, and contributing to scutage, when it runs, in proportion to his holding; 60a. arable, and 3a. 1r. meadow, held of Thomas de Seende by service of 1lb. cummin, price 1 1/2d., yearly; 1a. meadow held of Henry Mabonk by service of 1/2d. yearly; and 20a. arable held of Christiana late the wife of Ralph de Berners, lady of the manor of Westhorslegh, by service of 5s. yearly.
John his son, aged 13, is his next heir.
Endorsed: It is ordered by the council that the king remove (his) hand from the lands not held of the countess of Gloucester.
Writ of plenius certiorari to enquire whether or not Alice late the wife of Jordan le Bacheler left the said Jordan long before his death and dwelt (se tenuit) in adultery with another, and was not reconciled to the said Jordan before his death, so that she ought not to have her dower, 20 July, 25 Edw. I.
[SURREY.] Inq. made at Rippele, in the presence of the bailiff of Sir Adam de Blechingeleye, who holds the lands for a term, and of the bailiff of the earl of Gloucester, on Thursday the feast of St. James the Apostle, 25 Edw. I.
The said Jordan kept a concubine named Maud, daughter of William le Tayllour of Passeworth, wherein he behaved so ill (importune) towards Alice his wife that she could not live (morari) with him; thus she did not leave her husband nor desert him with evil intent (maliciose) or in adultery, but to avoid danger to herself she betook herself from him to her parents, where she maintained a virtuous conversation and committed no adultery during the lifetime of her husband.

Wicchenoure. The manor with its members held of the honour of Tuttebury for the service of 1 1/2 knight’s fee of the little fee of Mortain.
Little Coreborn. The hamlet held of the bishop of Chester by service of two appearances yearly at his court.

Cercedene. The manor (extent given) was formerly held by the said John of Isabel de Fortibus, sometime countess of Albemarle, of the fee of Curtys by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, but the jury do not know whether he held it on the day of his death of the king in chief, or of the heir of the said Isabel, because it is not clear to them whether she granted the said fee of Curtys to the king or not; but if the manor ought to be held of the heir of the countess, the jury know not of which heir, viz.—whether of Hugh de Curtenay or of the heir of Warin de Insula.

Pokelington. 20 bovates of land, a water-mill, services of the tenants of 21 bovates of land, rents of 2 cottars, and a free court every three weeks, held of the heirs of Isabel de Fortibus, sometime countess of Albemarle; whereof the said Denise was enfeoffed jointly with Remigius her husband by charters of the said countess granted to them and the heirs of the said Remigius.
Meltenby. 4 bovates of land held by the charters aforesaid.
All held of the said heirs by service of 3s. 6d. yearly. She held no other lands &c.
Roger her son, aged 40 and more, is next heir of the said Remigius and Denise.

Hadiston. [The manor] (extent given) including 12d. or a pair of gilt spurs the service of Adam de Benton for the manor of Little Benton, a fourth part of the service of a knight’s fee and 3s. 4d. yearly from Thomas de Fisseburn and his parceners for the manor of West Swynburn, and the homage of Gilbert de Umframvile for the manor of Colewell, which they held of the said William.
All held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee, and rendering a mark of silver yearly for the guard of the castle of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Aketon. A mark of silver yearly from Richard de Aketon for a tenement there.
Bokinfeld. 4a. land and a waste called Elstrother and Helme.
All held of Robert de Stotevill and his parceners by service of 6d. yearly.
Emelina, daughter of Walter Heyron, aged 6, is his next heir, and it is believed that she is with Lady Emelina de Hastings in Norfolk at her manor called Gissing.

Writ to the escheator to enquire and certify the barons of the exchequer what lands &c. Walter Heron, deceased, held, of what age is Emelina his daughter and heir, and whether he had any other heirs &c. 23 April, 25 Edw. I.
YORK. Inq. made at York on Wednesday before Whitsunday, 25 Edw. I.
Silkeston. The manor held by the said Walter and Alice his wife, of the gift and enfeoffment of Sir William Heyron his father, to hold to them and the heirs of the said Walter, one moiety with the capital messuage and wood of John de Nevyle, and the other moiety of Sir John de Heton, by knight’s service.
Derton. Lands and rents worth 18s. 4 1/2d. yearly, held by the enfeoffment of William his father.
Brereley. Lands and rents worth 15s. yearly, held of Margaret de Nevyle by homage and service.
He had a daughter and heir named Emelina, who is 7 1/2 years old, and no other heir.
William Heyron on the day he died held the manor of Notton by the courtesy of England of the inheritance of the aforesaid Emelina, of the earl of Lincoln by knight’s service.
The marriage of the said Emelina is worth 40l.
William Heiron died on the morrow of St. Nicholas the Bishop, 25 Edw. I.
NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. made at Morpath on Wednesday in Whitsun week, 25 Edw. I.
Walter son of William Heron had no lands or tenements in the county; he had a daughter named Emelina, now aged 7 1/2, who is his next heir in blood; she is likewise next heir of William father of the said Walter, who held the manor of Haddeston of the king in chief, and died at Newcastle upon Tyne on Sunday before the feast of St. Thomas last. The said Walter died long before the said William. Mary late the wife of the said William is dowered by the king’s command of a third part of the aforesaid manor. Neither of the said Walter or William his father has any other heir than the same Emelina whilst she lives: her marriage, as the jury believe, is worth 30l. to sell.

399. HENRY DE RYHULL.

NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. (undated.)
Little Ryhull. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief by service of 20s. yearly at the exchequer at Westminster by the hands of the sheriff of Northumberland and tallage when the king tallages his boroughs, including a water-mill from which John de Bidyk had of ancient tenure 20s. yearly, but after the said Henry did homage to the king he paid him nothing. This tenement used to render to Sir Gilbert de Umfravile of ancient custom 12d. yearly for keeping a dog, 5s. and 48 autumn works yearly, watch on the said Gilbert’s moor in Redesdale (valle de Rede) in the fence month (mense vetito), and used to aid him in making his eldest son a knight and marrying his daughter, but after the said Henry did homage to the king he did none of these services to Sir Gilbert. A plea concerning them is pending before the justices of the Bench.
Doxford. A messuage and 9a., held of the inheritance of Beatrice sometime his wife, of Adam de Doxford, rendering 1/2lb. cummin.
Ellingeham. A messuage and 24a. land, held of Robert de Clifford, rendering 1d. yearly.
Ellingeham in Tindale. A messuage and 52 1/2a. land, held of Robert de Clyfford, rendering 1/2d. yearly.
Dunstan. 4s. yearly rent from the tenement of Michael son of Reyner (?)

Wylkyngthrope alias Wylkyngthorpe. 40a. land and 1 1/2a. meadow, held of Robert Michael for 1/20 knight’s fee, and by service of 6s. yearly; 30a. land, 1a. meadow, and a messuage, held of Robert de Dunton, for 1/30 knight’s fee, and by service of 1d. yearly at Easter.
He had no more tenements in the county.
