Under a fine of 1402 [CP 25/1/179/90, no. 25; licence CPR 1401–5, p.106; cf. CIPM xix, no. 234] she held £39 19s. rent in Apethorpe for life with remainder to Roger the son of John her late husband and herself.
John died long ago. Isabel died on 5 Feb. last. Thomas her son and next heir is aged 19 years.

Jointly with Anne his wife he held 1 messuage, 80 a. arable, 2 a. meadow, 3 a. pasture and 3s. rent in Great Birch, to them, the heirs of their bodies and his right heirs by a grant of Henry Stampe, John Wacelyn and John Hokkelee, made with royal licence [CPR 1405–8, p.187]. They are held of the king of the honor of Dover as a 4th part of a knight’s fee, annual value of the messuage and lands 40s. Anne survives him.
He also held in his demesne as of fee 70 a. and 5s.9 1/2d. rent in Great Birch of the honor of Hagenet by suit of court at the manor of Haughley in Suffolk every 3 weeks, annual value including the rent 23s.4d.; and 1 messuage, 30 a. arable and 4 a. wood in the same place of John Peyton and Richard Baynard, service unknown, annual value 10s.

She held the manors of Gamston and West Bridgford and 6 bovates in Bassingfield with the advowson of Bridgford to herself and the heirs of the bodies of Andrew her late husband and herself by the grant of Richard de Salteby of Grantham, John de Hengham of Corby and Robert Arnold of Swafield to Andrew her late husband, as lord of Hooton Pagnell and Irnham, and herself and the heirs of their bodies. They are held of others than the king by various services, annual value together £20.
Geoffrey Loterell, son of Andrew, son of Andrew, knight, is next heir.
The inquisition is almost entirely illegible. The above is taken from the escheator’s account, E 1361246, no. 2.

She held a 3rd part of the manor of Hooton Pagnell in dower by the grant of Andrew Loterell, knight, her late husband, of the inheritance of Geoffrey son of Andrew, son of Andrew, knight. The whole manor is held of the king in chief by knight service, annual value of the 3rd part 5 marks.
She died on 10 April last. Geoffrey the heir is aged 29 years and more.

She held for life the manor of Sandlings extending in Orpington, St. Paul’s Cray, St. Mary Cray, Chislehurst, Chelsfield and Sevington, by the grant of Nicholas Bonde, knight, to her and Robert her late husband, made with royal licence [CPR 1377–81, p.557], with successive remainders to Thomas their son and the heirs of his body, John another son and the heirs of his body, and the right heirs of Robert. Thomas and John died without heirs of their bodies.
The manor, except for 7 a. arable and 7 a. pasture, is held of the king in chief by knight service. The 7 a. arable are held of Richard Cryst of his manor of Crofton by gavelkind and rents of 14d., 2 hens and 21 eggs; the pasture of Agnes Northwode of her manor of Champion Wood by a rent of 1 1/2d., annual value of the whole 10 marks.
She died on 22 July last. Hamo son and heir of Robert and Juliana is aged 24 years and more.

Jointly with Roger her late husband she held for life the manors of Scales Hall in Middleton, Islington, Howe by Lynn and Raynham with the advowson of Clenchwarton at alternate presentations with John Ingaldesthorp, knight, of the king in chief of the honor of Hagenet and the ward of Dover, service unknown; and similarly the manor of Castle Hall in Middleton of the earl of March of the honor of Clare by the rent of a pair of gilt spurs, with reversion of all to Robert son of Robert Scales, knight, lord of Newsells. The annual values are, Scales Hall £10, Islington £10 10s.2d., Howe £13 6s.8d., Raynham £10 11d. and Castle Hall 10 marks, 14d.

Owing to his minority half the manor of Barton Stacey held of Henry IV by knight service, annual value £8 11s., came into the king’s hands on the death of Philip his father and so remains.
Philip the father held jointly with Elizabeth his wife the manor of Dummer, by the grant of William Pont, rector of Farleigh Wallop, and John vicar of Hampstead Norris to them and the heirs of their bodies, of the king of the honor of Wallingford by knight service, annual value £3 6s.8d.
He died on 19 March 1401. Margaret and Maud are his sisters and heirs, Margaret aged 14 on 1 May last, Maud 13 on 27 May.

Writ, melius sciri, as to how she came to hold the manor of Dummer, as stated in the former inquisition [CIPM, XIX, no. 369], 2 Nov. 1414.

She held the manor of Dummer jointly with Philip her late husband, of the king, then prince of Wales, of the honor of Wallingford by knight service, by the grant of William Pante, rector of Farleigh Wallop, and John vicar of Hampstead Norris, to them and the heirs of their bodies.
Margaret wife of John Coudray and Maud wife of Peter Coudray are their daughters and heirs, aged 14 years on 1 May last and 13 on 27 May.

BERKSHIRE. Inquisition. East Ilsley. 20 Nov.
William Waryn, clerk, held the manor of Lyford in his demesne as of fee and by charter granted to Philip Popham, Elizabeth his wife and the heirs of his body a yearly rent of 10 marks from it payable by equal parts at Easter and Michaelmas with a clause of distraint. The manor is held of the abbot of Abingdon by knight service.
Philip had issue Philip, Margaret and Maud and died. Philip the son died without heirs of his body. Elizabeth died on 25 July 1409. Margaret wife of John Couderay and Maud wife of Peter Couderay are their daughters and heirs, ages as above. William Loveney has taken the rent since her death by the grant of Henry IV [CFR 1405–13, p.116].

They had issue Roger, knight, and other sons and daughters.

He held in his demesne as of fee the site of the manor of Deanshanger and 132 a. arable, 18 a. meadow, 6 a. wood and 4s.5 1/2d. and 1 ‘brodehokyd harve’ in rents, 1 cottage and 1 1/2 a., another cottage with 1 1/2 a. in Wike, Wicken, Passenham, Stony Stratford, Puxley, Whitfield, Deanshanger and Heathencote, all of the king as a 40th part of a knight’s fee, and by his charter dated at Deanshanger on 13 Dec. 1414 granted them to John Longeville, esquire, John Warrewyke, esquire, and Robert Spenser and their heirs and assigns, without royal licence, on condition that they should enfeoff Joan his wife, who survives him, for her life with remainder to his right heirs. So they held the premises but on account of the transgression the escheator took them into the king’s hands; annual values, the site nil, garden and dovecot 3s.4d., 80 a. of the 132 a. at 4d. each, the remaining 52 at 2d. each and no more because forest land and stony, 18a, meadow at 18d. each and 6 a., 1 rood of wood nil because totally wasted.

MIDDLESEX. Inquisition. Westminster. 4 April.
He formerly held in his demesne as of fee 1 messuage in the close of the royal palace of Westminster with the office of keeper of the palace. Long before his death by charter dated 4 March 1413 he granted them to John Wakeryng, John Makworth, Henry Kays and Robert Thresk, clerks, William Cheyne, John Slory, William Babyngton, Peter de la Pole, William Wakefeld and William Fyndern and their heirs and assigns by royal licence [CPR 1413–16, p.159]. They are held of the king in chief by the service of keeping the palace, taking 6d. daily by the hands of the sheriff of London; and when the king is in the palace taking bread, wine and the common dish from the kitchen, and candles, as all the king’s servants have. When the king leaves the palace he takes the fuel and bedding remaining in the chambers and the hay in the stables, and when the king repairs the houses there all the old timber, tiles and other materials. From every merchant with stall or shop in the palace he takes 12d. a quarter. The whole annual value is £10.
He died 15 March last. Roger de Sapurton, his brother and heir, is aged 36 years and more.

He formerly held in his demesne as of fee 1 messuage and 1 garden in the close of Fleet with the office of keeping the king’s prisoners there, and a rent of £6 14s.5d. from various lands and tenements in London, and by his charter dated 4 March 1413 he granted them to John Wakeryng and others [as above]. All are held of the king in grand serjeanty by the service of keeping the prisoners, taking 6d. daily by the sheriffs of London, and from each prisoner 2s.4d.

By the courtesy of England after the death of Joan his wife and of her inheritance he held:
Bradford on Avon and Trowle. 1 messuage, 2 market stalls, 2 cottages, 1 toft, 53 1/2 a. arable, 8 1/2 a. meadow, 2 a. wood and 6 a. pasture, of the abbess of Shaftesbury, by a rent of 10s 6d., annual value 57s.4d.
Bradford on Avon, 1 burgage, of John Lysle by a rent of 6s., annual value 12d.
Iford, 3 roods of meadow, of the prior of Winchester, by a rent of 4d. annual value 20d.
He died on 3 Nov. 1419. John Kendale, aged 24 years and more, the son of Isabel daughter of Joan is Joan’s heir and next heir of John Wyke to the messuage etc. and the burgage. Since John’s death William Scardeburgh and William Grey have held the premises by royal letters patent [CFR 1405–13, p.218].

Writ for proof of age. Joan Beauchamp, lady Abergavenny, John Greyndore, knight, and Thomas Walwayn have the wordship by the grant of Edward duke of York to whom the king gave it [CPR 1401–5, p.235]. They should be warned. 8 Feb. 1415.
[Endorsed] They were warned by John Durhurst and Thomas Galbrigg, but did not attend.
GLOUCESTER. Proof of age. Gloucester. 23 Feb.
The jurors say that Isabel wife of Richard Beauchamp of Abergavenny, knight, sister and heir of Richard, son and heir of Thomas lord le Despenser, was born at Cardiff on 27 July (Septem dormientes) 1400 and was aged 14 on 27 July last, and this they know for the following reasons:
John Haresfield and William Stoughton, both aged 50 years and more, know that she was born on that day and baptised in St. Mary’s church, Cardiff, because they had a ship called ‘la Trynyte’ wrecked and sunk in the port of Cardiff then.
John Joce of the forest of Dean and Walter Toky, both 44 and more: on that day Owyn Glendordy came with his large army to the gates of Cardiff [sic, 1400?].
Richard Harmeles and Richard Chaumberleyn, both 45 and more: that day Thomas bishop of Llandaff reconsecrated the graveyard of St. Mary’s, Cardiff, polluted by the effusion of blood, and afterwards baptised Isabel.
