He held the under-mentioned messuage etc. for life by grant of John de Welyngton, knight, lately deceased, the reversion after his death belonging to John de Welyngton, son and heir of the aforesaid John de Welyngton, a minor, to wit, 19 years of age and more, and a minor in the king’s wardship.
Asserton. A messuage, 200a. land, 8a. meadow and the advowson of a free chapel within the dwelling-house (mansionem) there, held of the earl of Salisbury, services not known.
He died on 28 November last. Heir not known.

He held the under-mentioned messuage etc. for life by grant as above, the reversion after his death belonging to John brother and heir of Ralph son and heir of the said John de Welyngton, a minor in the king’s wardship.
Knyghton by Dorchestre. A messuage and a carucate of land, held of Joan late the wife of Guy de Bryene, knight, the younger, as of her manor of Sutton Poyns.
He died on 8 December last. The said John brother of Ralph, aged 16 years and more, is his next heir.

GLOUCESTER. Inq. taken at Gloucester, Thursday, 18 April, 15 Richard II.
He held by the king’s grant the under-mentioned two thirds of a manor, of the inheritance of John de Welyngton, brother and heir of Ralph son and heir of John de Welyngton, knight, deceased, a minor in the king’s wardship.
He held the under-mentioned messuage and land called Colverden jointly with Roger Boys, parson of the church of Athryngton, who is still living, by feoffment of the said John de Welyngton, knight, on condition that they should re-enfeof the said John de Welyngton and his heirs.
Long before his death the said John de Welyngton, knight, being seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned manors of Yate and Polton and messuage and land in Weston Brat granted them to John de Gealmyngton, parson of the church of Lyteltoryton, and Roger Boys, parson of the church of Athryngton, for his life and the lives of John de Beamond, knight, Thomas de Welyngton, William Brightle and John Poulet, with remainder to the heirs of the said John de Welyngton. The said grantees afterwards granted their estate in the premises to the said John de Beamond, Thomas, William and John Poulet. Afterwards John de Welyngton, knight, and John de Beamond died, and the said Thomas, William and John Poulet granted their estate in the said manor of Yate to Ralph de Welyngton and Joan his wife and the heirs of the same Ralph. Afterwards the said Thomas and Ralph died; Joan is still living and holds the manor by virtue of the said grant. After the deaths of the said Thomas and Ralph the said William and John Poulet by an indenture between them and Lewis de Clyfford and John Worthe, knights, granted the said manor of Polton and messuage and land in Westonbrut to John de Welyngton, a minor, to hold until his full age, the reversion belonging to the said William and John Poulet. William and John Poulet afterwards died and John de Welyngton is still a minor and holds the premises by the form of the said grant.
Frompton Cotell. Two-thirds of the manor, which manor is held of the king by knight’s service.
Colverden by Gloucester. A messuage and land so called, held of the king by knight’s service, of King’s Berton by Gloucester.
Yate. The manor, held of the bishop of Worcester, by service of 33s. 4d. yearly and by knight’s service.
Polton. The manor, held of the heirs of the earl of Warwick by knight’s service.
Westonbrut. A messuage and a carucate of land, held of the abbot of Cirencestre by knight’s service.

She died on Thursday before St Hilary last. William her son, aged 23 years and more, is her heir.

Hacche Beauchamp. The manor, with the advowson of the church and the knights’ fees pertaining to the manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
He died on Friday after St Bartholomew last. Roger his son, aged 21 years and more on Monday after SS Peter and Paul last, is his heir.

NORTHAMPTON. Inq. taken at Norhampton, Saturday the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 16 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned messuage etc. for life, being enfeoffed thereof jointly with Alice his wife, for the term of the life of the longer liver of them, by feoffment of Ralph Basset of Weldon, knight, who last died, with remainder to the said Ralph and his right heirs. Ralph died without heir of his body during John’s lifetime.
Great Weldon. A messuage, a croft and 6a. land, parcel of the manor of Weldon, which is held of the king in chief.
He died on the feast of St Bartholomew, 11 Richard II.
John Aylesbyry, knight, and John Knyvet are kinsmen and next heirs of the said Ralph Basset of Weldon who last died, to wit, John Aylesbury as son of Joan one of the sisters of Ralph Basset his father, and John Knyvet as son of Eleanor the other sister of the said Ralph Basset the father.

SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Stokegursey, Wednesday after the Assumption, 15 Richard II.
Baldwin Wolmesford and John Chapel, chaplain, were seised of the under-mentioned manors in their demesne as of fee, and granted them to John de Columbers and Alice his wife, and the heirs of their bodies. John and Alice had issue Philip and Joan, and died seised as above. After their death, Philip entered into the manors as their son and heir. Joan had issue Geoffrey de Stauwell and died in Philip’s lifetime. Afterwards Philip died without heir of his body. At the time of his death the said Geoffrey son of Joan was a minor, whose wardship and marriage belonged to the king because some of the aforesaid manors are held of the king by knight’s service. Notwithstanding which, after the said Philip’s death James Daudele of Hele, knight, entered into the manors and occupied them all his life, and after his death Nicholas Daudele, knight, his son, occupied them all his life and took the issues and profits thereof, in derogation of the king’s right.

The king brings this to the escheator’s notice in order that he may with fuller knowledge be able to do what belongs to his office in regard to an inquisition which the king has ordered him to take concerning the lands etc. late of John Meryet, knight, and inform the king what person or persons have occupied the said 6 messuages etc. since the death of the said John Weylond and taken the issues and profits thereof, and by what title. 16 September, 15 Richard II.
SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Southpederton, Tuesday before St Faith, 15 Richard II.
Burga late the wife of the said John Weylond held the said rent on the day of her death in the manner stated in the writ. She died on Monday before Michaelmas, 12 Richard II. At the time of the said judgement she held the said lands etc. in fee tail of the gift and feoffment of William de Riton and Richard Clerc of Malton, chaplains, made to her and Thomas de Bolton and the heirs of their bodies.
Hoton Colswane. A messuage with a garden called Gaytherskoth, 9 tofts, 14 bovates and 60a. land, 7a. meadow and 30s. rent, held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee.

Commission to Ralph de Eure, sheriff of York, William Frost, Thomas Thurkill, John Rouceby and the escheator in the county of York, to enquire as to the truth of a petition which has been received from William de Lokton and Mary his wife, praying that: whereas the manors of Hoton Colswayne, Hoton Mynchon and Hoton Bardolf, a messuage, a garden, 9 tofts, 32 bovates and 60a. land, 7a. meadow and 30s. rent with the site of a water-mill in Hoton Colswayne, Hoton Mynchon and Hoton Bardolf, and a toft in New Malton, were seized into the king’s hands on the strength of a judgement rendered in the Parliament held at Westminster in 11 Richard II against John de Lokton, who at the time of the said judgement was seised of the premises in Hoton Colswayne, Hoton Mynchon and Hoton Bardolf as of the right of Agnes his wife, by gift of William de Riton and Richard Clerc of Malton, chaplains, to her and Thomas de Bolton, her husband, and the heirs of their bodies, and of the toft in New Malton as of the right of the same Agnes, who at the time of the judgement was seised thereof in her demesne as of fee simple, and whereas the said Thomas and Agnes afterwards died, whereupon the right to the premises in Hoton Colswayne, Hoton Mynchon and Hoton Bardolf descended after their death to the said Mary as their daughter and heir by the form of the gift aforesaid, and the right to the toft in New Malton descended after the death of Agnes to the same Mary as her daughter and heir, the king will be pleased to order all the premises to be delivered to the said William. 18 November, 15 Richard II.
