NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Toucestre, Wednesday after the Nativity of St Mary, 22 Richard II.
	He held the under-mentioned manor and advowson in his demesne as of fee. Overbyry in Hynton by Brakkele. The manor, with the advowson of the church of Hynton, held of the heirs of the earl of Hereford and lately of Thomas duke of Gloucester as of his wife’s inheritance by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. He died on Thursday before St Barnabas, 50 Edward III. Thomas Hynton, chaplain, aged 26 years and more, is his heir, to wit, son of Richard, brother of Thomas named in the writ.

GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Durseley, Thursday after the Purification, 21 Richard II.
	He held the under-mentioned manor and toft for life by demise of Master John Snap and Henry Tellesford, clerks, with remainder to Walter son of Thomas and the heirs of his body. Dounamneney. The manor. Wyke by Hampton Meysy. A toft and two carucates of land. Both held of the duke of Lancaster, services unknown. He died on Monday before St Nicholas last. Walter, aged 19 years and more, is his son and heir.

	He held the under-mentioned manors and land in Twynyho, jointly with Joan his wife, who is still living, Ralph, late bishop of Salisbury, now bishop of Bath and Wells, and John Panys of Wyke, who is still living, and the heirs male of the bodies of the said Thomas and Joan by the gift of Robert Cherlton and John Wykyng by a fine levied in the king’s court. He held the under-mentioned land and rent in Farleigh Muntford jointly with Joan his wife by the gift of John Panys of Wyke, in exchange for lands of the said Thomas and Joan in Tellesford. He held the under-mentioned messuage and land in Holbrok as of the right of Joan his wife. He held the under-mentioned land and rent in Bosyngton etc. in dower of the said Joan. Welowe. A third part of a carucate of land and 100s. rent, held of the abbot of Atelney, service unknown. He died on Monday before the Conception last. Heir as above, aged 19 years, 27 weeks, 1 day.

	He held the under-mentioned manor of Estcourt Heghtredbury and lands in Wolleye and Sloo jointly with Joan his wife, who is still living, Ralph, late bishop of Salisbury, now bishop of Bath and Wells, John Panes and John Leye, who is now dead, by a fine levied in the king’s court between them and Robert Cherleton and John Wykyng on the octave of St Martin, 7 Richard II, to hold to the said Thomas, Joan etc. and the heirs male of the bodies of Thomas and Joan with successive remainders to the heirs male of the body of Thomas and to his right heirs. He held the under-mentioned manor of Heghtredbury jointly with the said Joan, the said bishop, John de la Mare, knight, now deceased, Peter de Barton, clerk, John Lye, likewise deceased and John Panes of Wyke, by the grant of Elizabeth who was the wife of Edward le Despenser, knight, by a fine levied in the king’s court at Westminster on the morrow of St John the Baptist, 6 Richard II, to hold to the said Thomas, Joan etc. and the heirs male of the bodies of Thomas and Joan with remainders as above. He held the under-mentioned manors of Asshele and Codeford and lands in Heightredbury and Knoyel Odyern for life by a fine levied in the king’s court on the octave of the Purification, 17 Richard II, between Master John Snapp and Henry Telesford, clerks, and the said Thomas and John his son, with successive remainders to John his son and the heirs of his body, Walter brother of John and the heirs of his body and the right heirs of Thomas. He held the under-mentioned manor of Mildenhale for life by a fine levied in the king’s court at Westminster on the octave of St Martin, 7 Richard II, between the said Thomas and Robert Cherleton and John Wykyng, with successive remainders to Robert his son and the heirs male of his body, Thomas brother of Robert and the heirs male of his body, Walter brother of the last Thomas and the heirs male of his body, John brother of Walter and the heirs male of his body and the right heirs of Thomas Hungerford, knight. The aforesaid John, Robert and Thomas, brothers of the said Walter, died without heirs male of their bodies. He was seised in his demesne as of fee jointly with Walter his son of the under-mentioned rent in Rusteshal. He held the under-mentioned manor of Teffonte as of the right of Joan his wife. He held the under-mentioned fulling-mill jointly with Walter his son. He held the under-mentioned hundred and lands in Twyford and Asshrygge for life by grant of William de Monte Acuto, late earl of Salisbury, the reversion belonging to the present earl. NORTHUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at Corbrig, Saturday before St Hilary, 21 Richard II.
	He held the under-mentioned manor for life by a fine levied in the king’s court in 2 Richard II between Richard le Scrop, knight, and John Fayrefax, clerk, querents, and the said Ralph, deforciant, with remainder to John de Nevill, knight, and his heirs. The said John de Nevill afterwards died and the remainder descended to Ralph earl of Westmorland, his son and heir, who is still living. Styford. The manor, held of the king by knight’s service. He died on Saturday before All Saints last. Ralph, aged 18 years and more, is his son and heir. The manor belongs to the said earl, aged 30 years and more.

BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Aylesbury, Wednesday after St Peter’s Chair, 21 Richard II.
	He was convicted of felony and held on the day of the perpetration of the said felony the under-mentioned messuage and land as of the right of Margery his wife, who is still living. Hadenham. A messuage and two virgates of land, held of the prior of Rouchestre by socage. He died on the feast of St Lawrence, 20 Richard II. Alan, aged 12 years and more, is son and heir of the said Thomas and Margery.

1059	ELIZABETH WIFE OF JOHN HERLE, knight

WORCESTER.	Inq. taken at Worcester, Saturday after the Assumption, 22 Richard II.
	The said John and Elizabeth, being seised in their demesne as of fee as of the right of Elizabeth of the under-mentioned manors, by fine levied in the king’s court recognised them to be the right of Thomas Belne and Hugh Manne and the said Thomas and Hugh granted them to the said John and Elizabeth and the heirs male of their bodies with successive remainders to Roger Mortymer of Tedisterne Wafre and Maud his wife and the heirs of their bodies and to the right heirs of the said Elizabeth. The said John and Elizabeth died without heir male of their bodies. The said Roger and Maud has issue John and afterwards Maud died, so the said manors ought to remain to the said Roger and the heirs of his body and the body of Maud. Marteley. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. Cuyrewyard. The manor, held of the baron of Boreford, service unknown. She died on Sunday before the Annunciation last. Margaret wife of Thomas Vaughan, aged 21 years and more, is her daughter and one of her heirs and the said John son of the said Maud, daughter of the said Elizabeth, aged 6 years and more is her other heir.

	Writ of mandamus, 7 May, 21 Richard II
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Great Weldon, 10 November, 22 Richard II.
	He held the under-mentioned messuage and lands in his demesne as of fee. Great Weldon. A messuage and 28a. land, held of the king in chief by service of 12d. at the four usual terms and suit of court twice yearly at the manor of Little Weldon. Corby. 3a. meadow, held of lord le Latymer by service of 18d. and suit to the court of Corby twice yearly. He died on Saturday in the first week of Lent, 1 Richard II. John, aged 24 years and more, is his son and heir. William Spritlyngton, clerk, occupied the premises for five years after Walter’s death because he held the manor of Little Weldon from the king at farm and because Walter’s heir was a minor. After the said William’s death William de Corby held the manor of Little Weldon of the king at farm for nine years and afterwards at will for six years by the king’s letters patent and occupied the premises.

	He held the under-mentioned manor and advowson. Kekynwych. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held of Thomas de Bello Campo, late earl of Warwick, who forfeited to the king. Date of death and heir not given.

	He died seised to him and the heirs of his body and of the body of Joan, late his wife, of two-thirds of the under-mentioned manor and the reversion of the other third, which is held in dower by Hawise, his mother, who is still living, by endowment of Andrew father of Andrew. Hoton Paynell. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. He died on 31 December last. Geoffrey, aged 13 years and more, is son and heir of Andrew son of Andrew and Joan.

	The under-mentioned manor came to the king’s hands by the death of Henry Mochilgrave and the minority of John. A third part is assigned by the king’s writ as dower to Elizabeth, wife of the said Henry, who is still living. Faukenerysherst. The manor, held of the king in chief by homage and fealty and the services of keeping a falcon of the king’s. He died on 20 March last. John Muchelgrove, brother of the said Henry, aged 28 years and more, is his heir.

SUSSEX.	Inq. taken at Fokyngton, 12 April, 21 Richard II.
	The under-mentioned manor, messuage and land came to the king’s hands by the death of Henry and the minority of John, who at the time of his father’s death was in his mother’s womb. Wotton. The manor, held of the king in chief as parcel of the manor of Herstfauconer, Kent, which is held of the king by the service of keeping one of his falcons. Clopham. A messuage and a carucate of land, held of Thomas duke of Norfolk by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee. Date of death and heir, aged 30 years and more, as above. A third part of the premises is assigned in dower to Elizabeth wife of the said Henry, who is still living. Two-thirds was delivered to John Halle the younger and the said Elizabeth at farm during the minority of the heir by the king’s commission.

DERBY.	Inq. taken at Derby, Wednesday in Easter week, 21 Richard II.
	She held two-thirds of the under-mentioned manor of Langeley Meynell and the reversion of the other third part, held for life in dower by Hawise, formerly wife of Hugh Meynell, by gift of Hugh in th’Lane, parson of the church of Langley, and Richard Byron to her for life, with remainder to the right heirs of Richard Meynell, knight. She held the under-mentioned manor of Zeveley and land in Holynton for life by the gift of the said Hugh in th’Lane and Richard Byron, with remainder to William son of Richard Meynell for life, with remainder to the right heirs of the said Richard Meynell. She held two-thirds of a moiety of the under-mentioned Newhall with the reversion of the other third part, held for life in dower by the said Hawise, for life, with remainder to the right heirs of Richard Meynell. Langeley Meynell. The manor, held of Robert de Ry by knight’s service, except 6 bovates of land, held of Robert de Twyford by service of a pair of gilt spurs or 6d. yearly. Zeveley. The manor, held of the duke of Lancaster by knight’s service. Holynton. A carucate of land, held of the duke of Lancaster, service unknown. Newhall. Held of the lord of Furnevale by knight’s service. She died on Thursday after the Epiphany in the year aforesaid. Joan, aged 17 years and more, Elizabeth, aged 16 years and more, Margaret, aged 14 years and more, and Thomasia, aged 13 years and more, are daughters and heirs of Ralph Meynell, son and heir of Richard Meynell, knight, husband of the said Joan.

	She held two-thirds of the under-mentioned manor of Hyntes and the reversion of the other third part, held in dower by Hawise, formerly the wife of Hugh Meynell, by gift of the said Hugh to her for life, with remainder to the right heirs of Richard Meynell, knight. She held the under-mentioned manor of Kyngesley for life by gift of Hugh in the Lane, parson of the church of Langeley, and Richard Biron, with remainder to William son of the said Richard Meynell for life, with remainder to the right heirs of the said Richard Meynell. 	She held a third part of a moiety of the manor of Kynges Neuton as her dower after the death of the said Richard, late her husband. She held the under-mentioned manors of Burton Novereye and Upton by gift of Richard Byron and Richard de Bevercote, which they had by gift of Richard Meynyll, knight, for her life, with successive remainders to William son of the said Richard Meynyll and the heirs of his body, to Maud and Joan, sisters of the said William for life, and to the right heirs of the said Richard Meynyll. Before the making of the feoffment Hawise, who was the wife of Hugh Meynyll, father of the said Richard, was dowered in a third part of a moiety of the said manors by the death of the said Hugh, for which third part she attorned to the said Richard Byron and Richard Bevercote and to the said Joan. 	He held the under-mentioned manor and lands jointly with William Brynchele and John Beestchirche of London, ‘barbour’, by gift of William Cressewyk and John Berveyre to them and the heirs of the body of the said William Marche. Fyncheslee. The manor and 80a. land in Fyncheslee and Hendon, held of Philip Pelytot by service of 1 lb. pepper yearly. Rents from Thomas Shelle, 12s. 1d. and 3 hens; Hugh Fastolf, 8s., 1 cock, 3 hens and 25 eggs besides 10d. castle ward; the prioress of St James, 10s. 7 1/2d.; John son of Thomas Orlaston, 3s. 10d. besides 3d. castle ward; the rector of the church of Orlaston, 4d., 1 cock and 2 hens; William Lowys, 2s., 1 cock and 2 hens; Thomas Notyngham, 6s. 7 1/2d., 1 1/2d. custom of butter and 2s. for ‘Romskot’, 1 cock, 8 hens, and 88 eggs besides 3s. 3 1/2d. for castle ward; William Chapman, 15d., 1d. custom of butter, 1d. for ‘Romskot’, 1 hen and 12 1/2 eggs besides 5d. castle ward; Juliana Fynch, 16d., 2 hens and a fourth part of a hen, and 5 eggs besides 3d. with half 1/4d. custom of butter [and 3d.] (fn. 2) castle ward. The said rents are parcel of the manor of Orlaston, which is held of the king in chief as of the honor of Perche by homage and fealty and ward of his castle of Dovorr. He died on 29 November in the year aforesaid. William, aged 13 years on the feast of St Luke last, to wit, 18 October, is his son and heir.

He died on Thursday, the eve of SS Peter and Paul, in the year aforesaid. Philip, aged 26 years and more, is son and heir of the said Philip and Elizabeth.

Reyngham. 2s. yearly rent from 20a. land held by the prior of St John of Jerusalem in England. The said rent is held of the king as of the honor of Devorr by knight’s service. He died on Thursday after Michaelmas, 49 Edward III. Amy, wife of Thomas Neweton of London, aged 21 years and more, is his sister and heir.
