LONDON.	Inq. taken at Guyhald in London, 6 July, 19 Richard II.
	He was born in London, in Bassyngeshaweward, and baptised in the church of St Michael Bassyngeshawe on the eve of the Epiphany, 47 Edward III. William Hawe, aged 60 years, and John Lynge, aged 50 years, know this because John Pyel was mayor at that time and Nicholas Brembre, the said Brian’s godfather, and John Phelipot were sheriffs. Walter Bekeswell, aged 50 years, John Bokelsmyth, aged 57 years, and Thomas Stranston, aged 47 years, know this because Christina wife of William Tudenham, the said Brian’s godmother, died that year. Richard Ouchawe, aged 48 years, knows this because he was made a freeman of the city that year. Henry Asshebourne, aged 60 years, Bartholomew Dekene, aged 50 years, and Adam Holte, aged 52 years, know this because on that day Roger Bonde fell and broke his right arm. William Foungry, aged 49 years, Roger Loundres, aged 55 years, and Thomas Hawe, aged 46 years, known this because on that day John Love, cook, was put in the pillory for selling a stinking eel-pie and other unwholesome victuals.

742	ELLEN WIFE OF WILLIAM DE STRETTON
BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. taken ex officio at Bekenesfeld, 29 July, 19 Richard II.
	Robert de Stretton, parson of the church of Lampadernevaur, was seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned messuage etc. and by a fine levied in the king’s court he enfeoffed William de Stretton and Ellen his wife thereof, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to William’s right heirs. William and Ellen had issue William who married Isabel daughter of John Benham, and had issue Agnes. William the father died seised of such estate and William the son died in Ellen’s lifetime. Eton by Wyndesore. A messuage and a carucate of land called Bardeneys formerly held of William Trussell, as of a moiety of the manor of Eton, by knight’s service. The moiety of the manor afterwards came into the hands of Edward III and is still in the present king’s hands. She died on Whitsunday, 17 Richard II. The said Agnes, aged 9 years and more, is her heir. James Wyat and Isabel his wife have taken the issues since Ellen’s death, title unknown.

LEICESTER.	Inq. (indented) taken virtute officii at Leycestre, Monday the feast of St Anne, 19 Richard II.
	He held the under-mentioned messuage, land and rents for life by the king’s grant. Whythcok. A messuage, a carucate of land, 5 marks rent and a rent of 3 lb. pepper. He died on Sunday after All Saints, 18 Richard II. John Barker, the said William’s bailiff, took the issues from the said Sunday until 20 June, 18 Richard II, when the premises were delivered to Edmund Hestyng and Alice his wife, by virtue of the king’s writ directed to the escheator.

	She held the under-mentioned messuage and land for life, by demise of Thomas Bryt, deceased, the reversion belonging to the said Thomas and his heirs. Thomas had a son John, who is still living, and who is in the king’s wardship by reason of his idiocy. Poterneswumborn. A messuage and 30a. land, held of John Savage and Edith Lucy as of the manor of Tollard, service unknown. She died on the feast of St Nicholas, 19 Richard II. Heir unknown.

	He was seised of the under-mentioned messuage and land in his demesne as of fee. Leeton. A messuage and a carucate of land, held of the king in chief by service of 3s. 4d. yearly by the hands of the sheriff. He died on Monday after the Epiphany in the year aforesaid, Roger, aged 11 years and more, is his son and heir.

A messuage, 15a. land and 1r. meadow, held of the king in chief by service of an iron goad for a ‘warrok’ to be fixed on a ‘clothsak’ when the king rides to Wales in time of war. Lanfare Maudeleyne. A messuage, 58a. land, 1a. wood and 1a. meadow, held securely of John Bourghcher, knight, Thomas de Walden and John Bataille, service unknown. Lanfare Maudeleyne. 	He held the under-mentioned lands etc. jointly with Agnes his wife, who is still living, by gift of John de Thornton and John Moy, chaplain, to them and the heirs of their bodies with the king’s licence. The said John and John had the under-mentioned land in Morton by a gift of John Bate. Hacumby. Two-thirds of a messuage, of 22a. land and of 3a. meadow, and the reversion of the other third, which Maud wife of Roger Bate, deceased, holds in dower, held of the [king in chief] by knight’s service. A furlong of land called Berepeyre, held of the abbot of St Peter’s, Gloucester by serjeanty. Morecote. A carucate of land, held of John Hathewy by knight’s service. He died on Wednesday before the Purification last. John Kenne of Somerset, aged 50 years and more, and Isabel wife of John Tyre of Gloucestershire, aged 40 years and more, are his heirs, to wit, John Kenne son of Isabel sister of the said Emery, and Isabel wife of John Tyre, daughter of Elizabeth, sister of the said Emery.

The said Ralph and William died without heirs male of their bodies and John Pecche and Eleanor died and Theobald brother of William entered and married Agnes and they had issue the said Bartholomew and Thomas. Braunton Gorges. The manor held of the king in chief by service of a barbed arrow whenever the king hunts in the forest of Exemor. Date of death as above. Joan, aged 8 years, Philippa, aged 5 years, and Elizabeth aged a quarter of a year, are his daughters, but Thomas, his brother, aged 24 years and more, is his heir to the tenements aforesaid.

SUFFOLK.	Inq. taken at Lavenham, Tuesday the feast of St Lucy, 20 Richard II.
	He held the under-mentioned manor, lands etc. jointly with Margery his wife to them and the heirs of Robert. Denham. The manor. Saxham, Rysby and Myldenhal. 3 messuages and 500a. land. All held of the abbot of Bury St Edmunds by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee and suit to his hundred of Rysbregge, except 20a., parcel of the manor of Denham, held of the manor of Zeldham by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. To whom the manor of Zeldham belongs the jurors know not. He died on 21 August. Thomas, aged 13 years on Whitsunday, 19 Richard II, is his son and heir.

The premises are charged with a yearly rent of 6 marks payable to Cecily Ferrour of Grantham for life, the reversion belonging to Thomas, son and heir of the said William. They are held of the heir of the earl of Stafford, a minor in the king’s wardship. He died on Friday before St Wolfram, 18 Richard II. Thomas, aged 12 years and more, is his son and heir.
