He held no lands in the county which pertain or ought to pertain to the king.

WARWICK. Inq. taken at Chepyngknyghton, Tuesday, the feast of St Stephen the Martyr, 20 Richard II.
He held in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned messuages etc. in Sponnestret, Cookstrete and Smythfordestrete and land called Bromfeld.
He was seised of the reversions of the under-mentioned rent from Horewelfeld and messuages etc. in Asshelane, held by Henry de Kele of Coventre and Elizabeth his wife in the name of dower from the free tenement that was John Clifford’s, formerly husband of the said Elizabeth, by assignment of the said William son of the said John.
Coventre. Sponnestret. A messuage in which Geoffrey Upton formerly dwelt and one in which Robert Duddeley dwells. 12a. land called Bromfeld.
Cookstrete. A messuage in which Robert Shepherd, ‘bocher’, dwells, 3 other messuages and a toft and garden.
Smythfordestrete. 4 marks yearly rent from a messuage that was Thomas Bray’s. 20s. yearly rent from 12a. land called Horewelfeld.
Asshelane. 2 messuages and 2 virgates of land.
The reversion after the said Elizabeth’s death belongs to the king, because the lands are held of the king in chief and the said William died without heir.
He died on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 16 Richard II.
The aforesaid Henry Kele has taken the issues of the premises since the said William’s death, title unknown.

She held the under-mentioned lands etc. in her demesne as of fee and also the under-mentioned reversion after the death of Joan who was the wife of Robert Baron… daughter of Thomas son of Rose sister of the said Robert.
Bradewelle… land, 3s. 4d. rent of assize and a moiety of 1 lb. wax yearly, held of the king as of the honor of Haule by service of the third part of a quarter of a knight’s fee.
[Bradewelle.] The reversion of a moiety of 26a. land and a third part of 40a. salt marsh, held of the said honor by the said service, and of 1a. land, held of William …
Bradewelle. 5a. land, held of the countess of Hereford, Thomas Coggeshal, John Doreward … by service of 12d. yearly.
She died on Tuesday before St Barnabas, 5 Richard II. [William] … aged 30 years and more, is her son and heir.
[Walter] …, deceased, who married the said Alice occupied the premises from the day of her death for … years by reason of offspring between them. After his death the said William entered as into his inheritance and took the issues until the Purification, 17 Richard II, when he enfeoffed thereof John Cok of Purle and Matthew Londeneys, who have taken the issues ever since.

WORCESTER. Inq. (indented) taken at Evesham, Friday after the Translation of St Wolstan the Bishop, 18 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned bailiwick in his demesne as of fee.
Feckenham forest. Bailiwick of Lekheye and Pypperode, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, quantity unknown.
He died on Thursday after Michaelmas, 32 Edward III. His right descended to Thomas his son and from him to William son of the said Thomas, aged 14 years and more, a minor in the king’s wardship.
Edward III and the present king have taken the issues since the said Roger’s death, title unknown.

He held the under-mentioned manor and two-thirds of a hundred.
Kynggesteyngton. The manor, with two-thirds of the hundred of Teyngbrigge, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, quantity unknown.
He died on 6 April in the year aforesaid. Cecily aged 28 years is his daughter and heir.

He died seised of the reversion of the under-mentioned manor, which William de Botreaux, father of the said William, granted by deed in 49 Edward III to Walter Clopton, who is still living, for life, at a rent of a rose yearly; whether the king’s licence was obtained the jurors know not. Walter still holds the manor in form aforesaid, except that Elizabeth late the wife of William de Botreaux, knight, recovered a third part in the king’s court by writ of dower on 12 July, 18 Richard II.
Elyngham. The manor called Meoles, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. A knight’s fee in Littelburgate pertains to the said manor.

He died seised of the under-mentioned tenement, which he held by the law of England after the death of Elizabeth formerly his wife, the reversion belonging to William son of the said William and Elizabeth.
Parish of St Peter Littell. A tenement, held of the king in free burgage, as is all the city of London.
He died on 25 May last. The said William son of William and Elizabeth is his heir.

He held the under-mentioned third part by the law of England, as of the right of Elizabeth his wife, one of the daughters and heirs of John Seintloo, knight.
Clyfton by Brusstoll. A third part of the manor, held of lord le Despenser of the honor of Gloucester by knight’s service.
He died on 20 May last. Heir as above (Dorset inquisition).

DEVON. Inq. taken at Criditon, 14 September, 19 Richard II.
He held two-thirds of the under-mentioned manor of Stokin Englissh and the reversion of the third part, which Elizabeth who was the wife of William de Botreaux, father of the said William, holds in dower.
He held in reversion the under-mentioned manor of Cadbury Castell; the said Elizabeth holds a third part in dower, which she recovered against Robert Cary in the king’s court by writ of dower the day before the said William’s death, and Robert Cary held two-thirds for the life of John Cary, knight, to whom (John) William de Botreaux, knight, father of the said William, granted the whole manor for life. The said John Cary, long before he forfeited all he had to the king, granted his estate in the manor to Robert his son. The said John died on 4 July last and the two-thirds descended to William de Botreaux, son of William son of William.
He was also seised of the under-mentioned rent.
Stokin Englissh. The manor, held of John Herle and Margaret his wife, as of Margaret’s right, in socage.
Cadbury Castell. The manor, held of Edward Courteney earl of Devon, as of his manor of Plymton.
Langeford. A yearly rent of 1 lb. cummin to be received by the hands of Elizabeth who was the wife of John Sergeaux, parcel of the manor, which manor is held of Philip de Courteney, knight.

CORNWALL. Inq. taken at Launceston, 21 September, 19 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manors of Trewathenant and Codfordfarlegh.
He held the under-mentioned manors of Worthevale, Botreaux Castel, Botylet Trevythow, Lananta, Boswythgy and Twyarnail jointly with Ralph, bishop of Bath and Wells, John Herle, knight, John Hulle, John Copleston, Thomas Lanrak, parson of the church of Dulo, Edmund Bozon, Richard Bozoun, William Cloutesham, Thomas Polsagh, Thomas Reymound, William Grilleston and William Yurd, by gift of William de Botreaux, father of the said William, who was seised of the said manors and the manor of Penheel in his demesne as of fee and granted them to the said feoffees by charter dated 17 November, 14 Richard II, to hold until 1,000l. should be levied from the said manors to pay his debts, when the said manors should revert to the said William de Botreaux the father and his heirs. The feoffees held the said manors from the said 17 November until the feast of St Lawrence, 15 Richard II, when William de Botreaux the father died and the manors were seized into the king’s hands, on which day 821l. 5s. remained to be levied of the 1,000l. On 27 February, 15 Richard II, a third part of the said manors was assigned in dower to Elizabeth, who was the wife of William de Botreaux the father and two-thirds to the said feoffees; on that day 737l. 15s. remained to be levied. The said Elizabeth granted to William de Botreaux the son the third part of all the manors assigned to her in dower, except Penheel, in exchange for two-thirds of the manor of Penheel, the manor of Crakampton (which William the son had by gift of William his father) and 4l. yearly rent out of the manor of Worthevale, to which exchange the rest of the feoffees consented, and the feoffees held the said manors (except Penheel) until 25 May last, when the said William Botreaux died, and the other feoffees are still living and the sum of … remains to be levied.
Trewathenant. The manor, held of the king as of the castle of Launceston and duchy of Cornwall.
Codfordfarlegh. The manor, held of the prior of Bodmyn as of his manor of Realton.
William de Botreaux the father, being seised of the said manor in his demesne as of fee, granted to William Yurd a yearly rent of 4l. for life and to Reynold Plente a yearly rent of 40s. for life.
Worthevale, Botreaux Castel, Botylet, Trevythow, Lananta, Boswythgy and Tywarnail. The manors, tenure not stated.

Writ, 28 May, 18 Richard II
HERTFORD. Inq. (indented) taken at Pokerych, Tuesday the feast of SS Peter and Paul, 19 Richard II.
William Bardolf, lord of Wyrmyngeye, deceased, was seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned manor and married Agnes daughter of Michael lord de Ponynges, now the wife of Thomas de Mortymer, knight. Long after his marriage the said William gave the manor, it is understood with the king’s licence, by his charter to the said Robert for life, with reversion to the said William and his heirs.
Watton atte Stone. The manor, held of the king in chief by petty serjeanty, by services of 13s. 4d. yearly to the king by the hands of the sheriff, 2s. yearly at the two sheriff’s tourns in the hundred of Bradewater, and suit to the county of Hertford every month and to the said hundred every three weeks.
He died on 20 May last. Thomas Bardolf, aged 24 years and more, is the said William’s son and heir; who is the said Robert’s heir the jurors know not.

OXFORD. Inq. taken at Watlyngton, Saturday before St Lawrence, 19 Richard II.
He gave the under-mentioned manors of Mapulderham Gurney and Stoklile to George Felbrugge, knight, Roger Marchall, John Lynde and John Cook of Wykham, who gave them to the said Robert and Amice his wife, who is still living, for life, rendering a rose at the Nativity of St John the Baptist.
John Bardolf, lord of Wyrmegey, being seised of the under-mentioned manor of Hallughton in his demesne as of fee, granted it to Nicholas Dammori for life with reversion to the said John, his heirs and assigns. The said John died and the reversion descended to William Bardolf as his son and heir, who granted it to the said Robert for life after the death of the said Nicholas Dammery, with reversion to the said William lord le Bardolf, his heirs and assigns.
Mapulderham Gurney. The manor, held of the earl of Arundell, services unknown.
Stokelyle. The manor, held of the earl Marchall, services unknown.
Hallughton. The manor, held of the king as of the honor of Walyngford, services unknown.

YORK. Inq. taken at Beverley, Saturday, 3 April, 18 Richard II.
She held the under-mentioned lands etc. in her demesne as of fee.
Holm by Paule. A messuage and two-thirds of two bovates of land, held of Anne late queen of England, as of the manor of Cleton, as of the honor of Aumale, by knight’s service and 1 1/4d. yearly to the ward of the castle by Skypse.
Paule. A bovate of land, held of Philip Spenser and John Conestable, knights, by knight’s service and 5s. yearly.
She died on Tuesday, 20 February, 16 Richard II. William del Chambre, aged 21 years on the Tuesday after Michaelmas last, is her kinsman and heir.
The late queen Anne took and her executors still take the issues and profits of the said lands and tenements by reason of the said heir’s minority.

454 RALPH DE CLENDON, an idiot
Writ, 27 April, 18 Richard II
NORTHAMPTON. Inq. taken at Rothewell, Thursday before St Dunstan, 18 Richard II.
The under-mentioned lands etc. in Thorp Malsores were taken into the hands of Edward III by reason of the said Ralph’s idiocy and he by letters patent granted the custody of them to John de Clendon, the said Ralph’s brother, to hold while they remained in the king’s hands, rendering 3s. 4d. yearly by the hands of the sheriff.
The under-mentioned manor of Clendon and rents etc. in Rothewell, Risshton and Wekelee were taken into the hands of Edward III on the death of the said John Clendon without heir of his body, by reason of the said Ralph’s idiocy, and he granted the premises with the custody of the said Ralph to Hugh Wake and they are now in the hands of John Welton and Finis his wife, executrix of the tenement of Hugh Wake, late her husband, by virtue of the said grant.
Thorp Malsores. A messuage, 2 virgates of land, 8a. meadow and 12d. rent, held of John de Knyghton as of the manor of Lodyngton by service of a pair of gloves yearly.
Clendon. The manor, held of the earl of Stafford in chief, by service of 14s. yearly.
Rothewell. 6 capons yearly from a messuage late of Robert Terry and 6s. yearly rent from a messuage of John Berughdon, which messuages are held of the abbot of Cirencester in chief, service unknown.
Risshton. 2s. yearly rent from a messuage of John Blouneham, held of Nicholas Lovet by service of 1/4d. yearly.
Risshton. A cottage, held of Robert de Elyngham, service unknown.
Wekelee. 6d. yearly rent from a parcel of wood pertaining to the manor, held of the earl of Stafford as parcel of the manor of Clendon.
He died on 20 April last. Thomas de Neubotell, aged 40 years and more, is his kinsman and heir, to wit, son of Richard de Neubotell, son of Sarah daughter of Richard de Clendon, grandfather of the said Ralph.

455 KATHARINE WIFE OF HENRY CHALFHUNT, knight
Writ to enquire what lands she held for life of the inheritance of William, son and heir of John de Baldyngton, a minor in the king’s wardship. 26 January, 18 Richard II.
OXFORD. Inq. taken at Dorchestre, 12 March, 18 Richard II.
She held no lands of the inheritance of the said William, but John de Draycote, being seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned manor, gave it to William atte Pile, who gave it to the said John de Draycote and the said Katharine then his wife, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with successive remainders to Agnes sister of the said John and the heirs of her body, to Margaret sister of the said Agnes and the heirs of her body, and the right heirs of the said John. John de Draycote died without heir by Katharine, and afterwards Agnes died and the right by virtue of the remainder descended to John de Weston, son of William Weston, son of the said Agnes. Afterwards the said Katharine granted all her estate in the manor to the said John de Weston, and Nicholas Spencere son of the said Margaret, whose heir William son of John de Baldyngdon is, to wit, son of Alice daughter of Margaret daughter of Margaret sister of Agnes, released all his right in the manor to the said John de Weston.
Draycote. The manor, held of John Farway, as of his manor of Appelton, services unknown.

He and Margaret (sic) were seised of the under-mentioned manor by the gift and grant of Hugh Crane of Winchester and William Purchas, with the king’s licence, to them and the heirs of Robert, and they enfeoffed thereof William Gascoigne, James Dynelay and others, whose names the jurors know not. Margaret is still living.
Wolferton. The manor, held of the king in chief, services unknown.
He died on 7 February, 18 Richard II. Robert Dynelay, aged 18 years on St Zedda’s day, 18 Richard II, is his son and heir.

He and Margaret his wife were seised of the under-mentioned manor by the gift and grant of Edmund Wymondeswold, parson of the church of St John the Evangelist, London, John Pleystowe, clerk, John Clee, draper, and Stephen Spilman, mercer, citizens of London, with the king’s licence, to them and the heirs of Robert, and they enfeoffed thereof Richard Dynelay, Nicholas Gascoigne and others, whose names the jurors know not. Margaret is still living.
Fitelton. A manor, formerly Henry de Candevere’s, called Kyngusfee, held of the king in chief at fee farm, rendering yearly 12l. at the Exchequer.

He held the under-mentioned lands etc. as of the right of Agnes his wife, who is still living, on the day of his outlawry.
Waterbeche. A third part of a messuage with a curtilage, held of the abbess of Denneye by fealty, service of a red rose yearly and suit to the court of the abbess of Waterbeche once a year.

Giles de Erdyngton, knight, by his charter dated at Braundeston, Wednesday before the Conversion of St Paul, 31 Edward III, gave to the said Thomas his son and Margaret his wife, who is still living, to them and the heirs of their bodies, the under-mentioned manors of Braundeston and Houghton, with remainder to the said Giles and his heirs.
William de Walshe, rector of the church of Upton, and Thomas Wilde, chaplain, by their charter dated at Barugh on Sore, Wednesday after the Translation of St Thomas the Martyr, 32 Edward III, gave to the said Giles and Elizabeth his wife for life the under-mentioned manor of Barugh upon Sore, with remainder to the said Thomas and Margaret and the heirs of their bodies; and if the said Thomas and Margaret should die without heir of their bodies during the lifetime of the said Giles, then the manor should remain to Giles, his heirs and assigns. The said Giles and Elizabeth are dead.
The said Thomas also had the under-mentioned fees and advowson.
Braundeston. The manor, held of Thomas de Asteleye as of the right of Elizabeth his wife, service unknown.

She held the under-mentioned third part in dower by endowment of Thomas de Grauntsoun and assignment of William de Monte Acuto, earl of Salisbury, John Northwood, knight, of Kent, Thomas Faukunberge, Alice late the wife of Thomas Wake, Katharine Tudenham of Norfolk and Roger Beauchamp, knight. John Northwod and Katharine Tudenham are dead and a third part of the reversion belongs to Roger Northwod son of John Northwod son of Roger son of Agnes sister of Otes de Grauntson, father of the said Thomas; another third part to William earl of Salisbury, son of Katharine second sister of the said Otes; and the residue to Thomas Faukunberge, son of Maud daughter of Sybil daughter of Mabel third sister of the said Otes, to Alice late the wife of Thomas Wake, daughter of the said Mabel, to John Tudenham, knight, son of Katharine, daughter of the said Mabel and to Roger Beauchamp, son of Roger son of Sybil daughter of the said Mabel. KENT. Inq. taken at Chelysfeld, Monday the feast of St Andrew, 18 Richard II.
Edward I granted the manor of Dymmok and 44l. rent in the manor of Derteforde to William de Grandissono and Sybil his wife in exchange for the manors of Idenne and Ihamme, to them and the heirs of their bodies, and the premises descended to Thomas de Grandisson, late husband of the said Margaret, as son and heir of Otes brother and heir of Peter son and heir of the said William and Sybil, after whose death there was assigned by the escheator to the said Margaret in dower out of the said rent 14l. 18s. 1 1/4d. The said Thomas died without issue and the rent descended to William earl of Salisbury, John Northwode, knight, Roger Beauchamp, Katharine Tudenham, Alice Wake and Thomas Faucunberge (as above, Gloucester inquisition, except that Thomas Faucunberge is said to be son of Maud daughter of Mabel daughter of William and Sybil de Grandissono). The part of the reversion that falls to Thomas Faucunberge is forfeit to the king. John Northwode died and Roger his son by his charter granted his purparty of the reversion (by the name of the rent that Margaret wife of Thomas de Graunsum, knight, holds in dower of the said Roger’s purparty in Derteforde, Stone, Wylmynton and Suttone) to Nicholas Heryng, Ellis Reyner, Thomas Holt and John Godwot, and Margaret attorned to them. Nicholas Heryng and John Godwot died and Ellis Reyner and Thomas Holt granted the reversion to Nicholas Brembre of London, knight, John Chaumberleyn, chaplain, and Nicholas Leche, and Margaret attorned to them. Katharine Tudenham also died and John her son and heir by his charter granted his purparty of the reversion to the said Nicholas Brembre, John Chaumberleyn and Nicholas Leche, and Margaret attorned to them. Nicholas Brembre afterwards by his writing released all his right in the said reversions to John Chaumberleyn and Nicholas Leche, and John Chaumberleyn by his writing released all his right to Nicholas Leche. Roger Beauchamp died and his purparty descended to Roger his son.
The said Margaret also held the under-mentioned third parts in dower by assignment of William Bryene, knight, who is still living.
Derteforde. A rent of 14l. 18s. 1 1/4d. as above.

She held the under-mentioned manor for life by demise of John Bauderyp and Elizabeth his wife and Robert Underhull and Iveta his wife to Edward Kerdyf, formerly husband of the said Joan, and the said Joan and the heirs of Edward. Edward died without heir of his body; he had an elder brother William, who had issue Joan, who had issue Elizabeth and Iveta. Elizabeth married John Bauderyp and they had issue Agnes, who married John Basset and they had issue John, now aged 13 years and more. Iveta married Robert Underhull and Robert and Iveta, by a fine levied in the king’s court, granted their reversion of a moiety of the manor, which Henry Greyndur and the said Joan held for the life of Joan, to Richard Ruyhale and Elizabeth his wife and the heirs of their bodies with successive remainders to the heirs of the body of Richard and to his right heirs. Iveta is aged 40 years and more.
Quenhull. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by the service of rendering a hound (canem de muta) yearly at the Exchequer, except 2s. issuing from a messuage and a carucate of land in Bruttesmorton, parcel of the manor, held of the said Richard Ruyhale by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee.
