GLOUCESTER. Inq. taken at Gloucester, Monday before the Purification, 14 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manors in joint feoffment with Elizabeth his wife, to them and the heirs of their bodies.
Kyngestanleygh. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Wodechester. The manor, held of the earl of Salisbury, as of his manor of Carsyngton, co. Oxford, by knight’s service.
He died on Sunday the eve of the Assumption last. John his son, aged 5 years and more, is his heir.

SURREY. Inq. taken at Dorkyng, Wednesday the feast of All Souls, 14 Richard II.
The said John (called John de Arundell, knight, son of John de Arundell, knight) held the under-mentioned manors of Bokelond and Colle to him and the heirs male of his body.
Long before his death he enfeoffed Thomas archbishop of York, John Frome, John Esteph’, John Tauke, William Storton, Andrew Grene and Robert Dougate of the under-mentioned manor of Westbecheworth, to hold to them and their heirs, and they were, and are, enfeoffed accordingly. So he did not die seised thereof.
Bokelond. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of Edward lord le Despenser, a minor in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service. The manor is charged by his gift and grant to pay 2d. yearly for life to Richard Chaumberlayn, who keeps the warren there.
Colle. The manor, held of Richard earl of Arundel and Surrey, by knight’s service, as of the honor of his castle of Reygate.
Westbecheworth. The manor, held of Sir Edward le Despenser by knight’s service.
Date of death as above. Heir as above, aged 5 years on the eve of St. Peter’s Chains last.

Writ of plura, 15 December, 14 Richard II
STAFFORD. Inq. taken at Chedele, Saturday the eve of St. Gregory, 14 Richard II.
In addition to the lands &c. specified in the inquisition taken after his death, he held the under-mentioned rent.
Strongeshull. 6s. 8d. yearly rent from 5 messuages, which messuages are held of the lord of Alveton, as of his manor of Alveton, services not known.
He died on Tuesday before St. Barnabas, 8 Richard II. Thomas Basset, clerk, his kinsman, to wit, brother of Ralph Basset, his father, is his next heir, and is 50 years of age and more.
Since his death John Clisseby and Eleanor his wife have received the said rent, title not known.

LEICESTER AND WARWICK. Inq. taken at Sharneford, Wednesday after Michaelmas, 14 Richard II.
The said Ralph, who held the castle of Benyfeld of the king in chief, had the under-mentioned knight’s fees and advowsons.
Prestwold. A fourth part of a knight’s fee, at present held by John Nevell, knight.
Hardeshull. One knight’s fee from the manor, at present held by Thomas Colepeper.
Upton. A tenth part of a knight’s fee, at present held by the lord of Upton.
Great Petlyng. A twentieth part of a knight’s fee, at present held by Roger Thurkull and William Overton.
(Unspecified). Half a knight’s fee, at present held by Ralph Hunte and Alice his wife, as of the right of the said Alice.
Longelodes. A fourth part of a knight’s fee from 100 a. land so called, and a grove called ‘Sapcotegrove’ with a stew, at present held by Laurence Trussell and Maud his wife, as of the right of the said Maud.
Sapcote. An advowson of the church, worth 100s. yearly; an advowson of the church, worth 9 marks; and the advowson of a chantry, worth 100s. yearly.

Writ of mandamus, 13 June, 14 Richard II
LEICESTER. Inq. taken at Rothewell, 7 August, 15 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned messuage &c. for life by grant of William de Sprydlyngton, clerk, deceased, with reversion to the said William and his heirs and assigns.
Great and Little Weldon. A messuage and 12 a. land and meadow, held of Richard son and heir of Ralph Basset of Weldon, a minor in the king’s wardship, as of his manor of Great Weldon, by service of 2 1/2d. and 2 capons to be rendered yearly.
He died on 6 September, 13 Richard II. John son and heir of Thomas de Sprydlyngton, deceased, son and heir of John de Sprydlyngton brother of the aforesaid William de Sprydlyngton is his kinsman and heir, and is 20 years of age and more.
Since his death John Clysby has occupied the premises and taken the issues and profits thereof, and still does so.

Writ to the escheator to enquire what lands &c. were taken into the king’s hand by reason of the idiocy of the said John and are still in the king’s hand, and as to the date of death and heir of the said John. 30 December, 15 Richard II.
BEDFORD. Inq. taken at Ampthull, Thursday before St. Hilary, 14 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned two-thirds of a manor, which were taken into the king’s hand by reason of his idiocy and are still in the king’s hand.
Houghton Conquest. Two-thirds of the manor called ‘Bretonesmaner’, which manor is held of Elizabeth Lady Nevile and Latymer, as parcel of the barony of Bedeford, service not known.
He died on Thursday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 14 Richard II. Margaret wife of William Wenlok, his sister, aged 28 years and more, is his heir.

LEICESTER. Inq. taken at Leycestre, Tuesday before the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 15 Richard II.
Amy Mallessore, now the wife of Robert Veer of Thrapston, held of him the under-mentioned manor by knight’s service and service of 26s. 8d. yearly, as of his manor of …, and he died seised of the said services. He in turn held the said manor of John duke of Lancaster, service not known.
Lobbenham. The manor.
Thomas Boivyll, his son, aged 20 years and more, is his heir.
Since his death on the feast of the Epiphany, 50 Edward III, the said Amy has occupied the manor, and has not for the whole of that time paid the said rent to the king.

DEVON. Inq. taken at Honyton, Friday after the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, 14 Richard II.
He held on the day of his death the under-mentioned manor of Northam, island of Londay, and toft &c. in Dertemouth &c.
Long before his death he enfeoffed by charter Martin de Ferers, John Ferers of Churcheton, William Tray, rector of the chantry of Slapton, and John Prestecote of the under-mentioned manor of Slaptone and reversion of the manor of Torrebrian, to hold to them, their heirs and assigns. The said feoffees were seised of the said manor and reversion accordingly for three years and more, and afterwards enfeoffed thereof Sir John Deveros of Maoun, knight, Peter de Courtenay and John Lovell, knights, Richard Mucheldevere, Walter Trote, clerk, Morgan Gough, Nicholas Wake and John Combe, clerks, to hold for the life of the said Guy, with successive remainders to Philippa and Elizabeth, daughters of Guy de Briene his son, and the heirs of their bodies, and to his own right heirs.
Northam. The manor, held of the king in chief as the king’s ancient demesne.
Londay. The island so called, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Dertemouth. A toft, and a rent from divers tenements in Dertemouth, Clyfton and Hardenesse, held of the king in chief as the king’s ancient demesne.
Slaptone. The manor, held of the earl of Devon by knight’s service, as of his castle of Plympton.
Torrebrian. The manor, held of the same earl by knight’s service, as of his castle of Okampton.
He died on Wednesday after the Assumption, 14 Richard II. Philippa wife of John Deveros, son of John Deveros, knight, aged 12 years and more, and Elizabeth wife of Robert son of John Lovell, knight, aged 9 years, are his next heirs, to wit, daughters of Guy his son.

He was seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned toft and rent.
He held the under-mentioned manor and island for life by the grant of John Passeware and John … with successive remainders to William de Briene, knight, son of the said Guy, and the heirs male of his body, to Philip Briene, knight, and the heirs male of his body, and to the right heirs of the said William. The said William and Philip are dead without heirs male of their bodies.
Dertemouth. A toft.
Dertemouth, Clifton and Hardenes. A yearly rent of 100s. 1 1/2d. from divers tenements.
Northam. The manor, and the island called Londey.
The premises ought to descend to Philippa wife of Henry Lescrop, knight, aged 19 years and more, and Elizabeth wife of Robert son of John Lovell, knight, aged 16 years and more, daughters of Guy de Briene, knight, the younger, brother of the said William.
The premises were seized into the king’s hands after the said Guy’s death.

963. Ralph Basset of Drayton, knight
Writ, 11 May, 13 Richard II
NORFOLK. Inq. (indented) taken at Norwich, 30 June, 14 Richard II.
The said Ralph held the under-mentioned manor in his demesne as of fee on 1 March, 12 Richard II, and demised it at farm to Roger Symondes, John Grys, William Blofeld and others for 6 years starting at the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross, 12 Richard II; by virtue of which demise the said farmers occupied the manor and still occupy it. Afterwards, on 6 March, 13 Richard II, John Outhorp, clerk, entered into the manor, claiming an estate therein for Walter bishop of Durham, Richard bishop of Chester, Richard Scrop, knight, and himself, and their assigns, because he said that Ralph Basset granted a charter of feoffment of the manor to the said feoffees, and a letter for delivery of seisin to John Skot, by virtue of which letter John Skot delivered seisin to the said John Outhorp, and to the other feoffees then not present, and John Outhorp caused a court to be held in the name of the feoffees, in which he took the attornment of certain feoffees. But not (absque hoc quod) in any way did the farmers aforesaid attorn as farmers to the said feoffees, but both before the said seisin, and at the time of it, and after it, they occupied the manor as farmers of the said Ralph, together with the profits of the court held by the said John, and took all the profits of the manor and still take them. At the time of the making of the charter aforesaid the said Ralph was not in his right mind; so he held the manor in his demesne as of fee on the day of his death.
Shiryngham. The manor, held of the king, as of the honor of Gyffard, service not known.
He died on 10 May last. Thomas earl of Stafford, aged 21 years and more, son of Hugh son of Ralph likewise earl son of Margaret sister of Ralph father of Ralph his father is his next heir.

Writ, 28 June, 14 Richard II
LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Lincoln, Monday before St. Margaret, 14 Richard II.
The said Ralph held no lands &c. in the county on the day of his death. But he was formerly seised of the under-mentioned manor, and on Sunday after St. Hilary, 13 Richard II, he enfeoffed Walter Skyrlowe, bishop of Durham, Richard Scroop, bishop of Chester, Richard Scroop and Thomas de Aston, knights, and John de Leyre, John Broun and John de Outhorp, clerks, of the said manor (under the name of all his lands &c. in the county), to hold to them and their heirs and assigns, and by virtue of that feoffment all the tenants of the manor attorned to the said feoffees. The feoffees occupied the manor from that day, and still occupy it.
Gretwelle. The manor, held of the duke of Lancaster, as of the honor of Tykell, service not known.
He died on 11 May last. Thomas earl of Stafford and Alice wife of William de Chaworth, knight, each aged 21 years and more, are his next heirs.

SURREY. Inq. taken at Suthwork, 19 July, 14 Richard II.
The said Ralph held no lands &c. in the escheator’s bailiwick on the day of his death, but long before his death he enfeoffed Thomas de Aston, knight, John Layer, clerk, William Creswyk, John Asthorp and others of all his lands &c. in the county, as appears by a charter produced.
He died on 10 May last. Thomas Beuchamp, earl of Warwick, Thomas earl of Stafford and James lord de Awdele, of full age, are his next heirs.

Writ, 11 May, 13 Richard II
DEVON. Inq. taken at Exeter, Friday after St. Barnabas, 13 Richard II.
Loretta late countess of Leicester, gave the under-mentioned manor to Maud her niece, daughter of William de Brause her brother, to hold to her and the heirs of her body. From the said Maud the manor descended to Joan her daughter and heir, and from Joan to William Martyn, knight, her son (recte grandson) and heir, who took to wife a certain Margaret. From William the manor, with other lands of his, descended to Joan and Eleanor his daughters (recte sisters) and heirs, who after his death assigned the manor to the said Margaret, to hold in dower by endowment of the said William. Afterwards a partition was made between the said Joan and Eleanor of the reversion of the said manor as well as of the other lands &c. late of the said William, and the reversion of the manor was allotted to Eleanor. Afterwards, in the octave of Hilary, 8 Edward III, a fine was levied between Lewis de Cammoys, parson of the church of Combmartyn, and Baldwin Ayllemere, querents, and Philip de Columbariis and the said Eleanor then his wife, deforciants, whereby the reversion of the manor was settled on Philip and Eleanor for life, with successive remainders to Ralph Basset, the younger, and Alice his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, and to the right heirs of Eleanor. Afterwards the said Philip died; and Eleanor died also without heir of her body, where-upon the right to the reversion descended to Joan her sister; and from Joan it descended to James Daudelee her son and heir. Afterwards, the said Ralph and Eleanor (recte Alice) died; and later the said Margaret, tenant in dower, died, after whose death a certain Ralph Basset, knight, son and heir of the aforesaid Ralph Basset and Alice, entered into the manor and died seised thereof without heir of his body. The aforesaid James Daudelee had issue Nicholas Daudelee, his son and heir, still surviving, who is 50 years old and more.
Toustoke. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, to wit, by service of one knight’s fee.
The said Ralph Basset, knight, the younger, died on 10 May last. Thomas earl of Stafford, aged 21 years and more, is his next heir.

Writ, 13 July, 14 Richard II
BERKS. Inq. taken at Nubury, 22 September, 14 Richard II.
A fine was levied in the king’s court at York in the octave of Hilary, 8 Edward III, between Lewis de Kammoys, parson of the church of Combemartyn, and Baldwin Aylmer, querents, and Philip de Columbariis and Eleanor his wife, deforciants, whereby the under-mentioned manor of Shawes, except the advowson of the church, was settled on Philip and Eleanor for life, with successive remainders to Ralph Basset, the younger, and Alice his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, and to the right heirs of Philip. Philip and Eleanor were seised of the manor accordingly, and Eleanor died. Philip also died seised. Ralph Basset, on whom the reversion of the manor was entailed by the said fine, was father of the Ralph mentioned in the above writ. He, with the said Alice, was seised of the manor by virtue of the fine aforesaid, and he died so seised. Alice is also dead. They had issue the said Ralph mentioned in the writ, who entered into the manor after his father’s death and died without heir of his body. After his death the reversion of the manor descended to Thomas Stowell, kinsman and heir of the aforesaid Philip, to wit, son of Matthew son of Geoffrey son of Joan sister of the said Philip, who is 21 years of age and more.
Shawes. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, amount of service not known.

WORCESTER. Inq. taken at Bremesgrove, Saturday before St. Barnabas, 14 Richard II.
He held no lands in the county of the king in chief on the day of his death; but he held the under-mentioned land &c., as below.
Yherdeley. 2 parcels of land, one called ‘Foxynchefeld’ and the other called ‘Totehull’, a parcel of meadow lately held at will by John Smyth, and 18s. 2 1/2d. rent of assise from divers free tenants, with their services; all within the manor of Yherdeley and held of Thomas de Bello Campo, earl of Warwick, as of his manor of Yherdeley, services not known.
Date of death and heir (aged 22 years and more) as above (Norfolk inquisition).

Writ, 11 May, 13 Richard II
BEDFORD. Inq. taken at Turveye, 9 July, 14 Richard II.
He died seised of the under-mentioned lands and reversion.
Turveye. 20 a. land within the park of Newenton Blosmevill, held immediately of John Trayle, knight, and by him of the earl of Stafford, services not known; 5 a. land in the same park, held of the king in chief, service not known; and the reversion of 50 a. land, parcel of the manor of Newenton aforesaid, which Elizabeth Beauchamp holds for life by grant of the said Ralph. The said 50 a. are held directly of John Trayle, knight, and by him of the earl of Stafford, services not known.

BUCKINGHAM. Inq. taken at Neuport Pagnell, Tuesday after SS. Peter and Paul, 14 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Olneye in fee tail on the day of his death, by virtue of a fine levied in the king’s court at Westminster on the morrow of Ascension Day, 13 Edward III, between Ralph Basset of Drayton, his grandfather, Ralph son of Ralph son of Ralph Basset of Drayton and Joan daughter of Thomas de Bello Campo, late earl of Warwick, querents, and William de Herle, knight, and Thomas de Radeclyve, late parson of the church of Olneye, deforciants, whereby the manor was settled on Ralph Basset, the grandfather, for life, with successive remainders to the aforesaid Ralph son of Ralph [son of Ralph] and Joan and the heirs of their bodies, to the heirs male of the body of Ralph Bassett, the grandfather, to Ralph de Stafford for life, to Richard de Stafford for life, to Ralph son of Ralph de Stafford and the heirs male of his body, to Richard son of the aforesaid Richard de Stafford and the heirs male of his body, to Thomas de Bello Campo, son of the aforesaid earl of Warwick, and the heirs male of his body, and to the said late earl of Warwick and his heirs. Ralph Basset, the grandfather, was seised of the manor by virtue of the said fine, and is dead without heir male of his body. After his death the aforesaid Ralph son of Ralph son of Ralph and Joan entered, and died without issue. Ralph de Stafford and Richard de Stafford are also dead; and Ralph son of Ralph de Stafford and Richard son of Richard de Stafford have died without heirs male of their bodies. The aforesaid Ralph son of Ralph son of Ralph Basset and the Ralph Basset mentioned in the writ are one and the same person.
The same Ralph Basset died seised of the reversion of the under-mentioned manor of Newenton Blosmevill expectant on the demise of Elizabeth Beauchamp, who holds it for life free of rent.
He also died seised of the reversion of the under-mentioned lands &c. in Shiryngton expectant on the demise of John Billyng, who holds them for life free of rent.
He enfeoffed Walter Skyrlowe, bishop of Durham, Richard Scroop, bishop of Chester, Richard Scroop and Thomas de Aston, knights, and John Leyre, John Broun and John Outhorp, clerks, of the under-mentioned manors of Wardyngton and Clyfton, and they were seised thereof accordingly. So he did not die seised of them.
Olneye. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Newenton Blosmevill. The manor, tenure not known.
Shiryngton. [8 a. meadow, 10s. rent and] (fn. 1) 50 a. land, tenure not known.
Wardyngton and Clyfton. The manors.
He died on Tuesday before Ascension Day last. Heir as above (Devon inquisition).
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the tenure of the manors of Wardyngton and Clyfton mentioned in the previous inquisition. 15 February, 14 Richard II.
BUCKINGHAM. Inq. taken at Clifton, Tuesday after St. Gregory, 14 Richard II.
Wardyngton. The manor is held of Henry Percy, now earl of Northumberland, by service of a pair of gilt spurs at Midsummer.
Clifton. The manor is held of the earl of Pembroke by knight’s service.

WARWICK. Inq. (indented) taken at Nuneton, Thursday before St. Gregory 14 Richard II.
He held no lands &c. in the county on the day of his death; but he formerly held the under-mentioned manors and lands &c., and on Sunday after St. Hilary, 13 Richard II, enfeoffed Walter Skyrlawe, bishop of Durham, Richard Scroop, bishop of Chester, Richard Scroop and Thomas de Aston, knights, and John de Leyre, John Broun and John de Outhorp, clerks, thereof, under the name of all his lands &c. in the county, and all the tenants of the premises attorned to the feoffees, who have occupied the premises ever since.
Scheldon. Two manors, to wit, Westhalle and Esthalle, with all their lands, rents, services, mills, stanks, stews and other appurtenances in the towns of Scheldon, Lyndon, Kyngton, Bykenhull, Merston Culy, Colshull and Castelbromwych, and the advowson of the church of Scheldon, held of the heirs of John de Arundell, as of their manor of Braundon, by knight’s service.
Dersthull. A messuage and a moiety of a virgate of land, 2 mills called ‘Wikfordmylnes’, with their stanks, meadows and other appurtenances, and 4s. rent, held of Leonard Mancestre and his parceners, by knight’s service.
Wylmyncote. A third part of a virgate of land and 40s. rent, held of John de Whellesberugh, John Brabason and the heirs of Thomas Culy, service not known.
He died on 11 May last. Thomas earl of Stafford and Alice wife of William Chaworth, knight, each aged 21 years and more, are his kinsfolk and next heirs, to wit, the said Thomas as son of Hugh son of Ralph son of Margaret one of the sisters of Ralph Basset, father of Ralph Basset his father, and the said Alice as daughter of Katherine daughter of John son of Roger son of Joan daughter of Maud the other sister of the said Ralph Basset, father of Ralph Basset his father.

Rakedale and Wylowes. The manor, held of the heirs of Ralph Basset of Weldon by knight’s service.

Thursyngton. A messuage and 12 a. land, held of Katharine de Notyngham, lady of Thursyngton, by service of 2s.

NOTTINGHAM. Inq. taken at Notyngham, Tuesday the feast of SS. Cosmas and Damian, 14 Richard II. (fn. 2)
He held no lands &c. in the county on the day of his death except the under-mentioned two services; because long before his death, while he was of sound mind, he enfeoffed Walter de Skyrlowe, bishop of Durham, Richard Scrop, bishop of Chester, Richard Scrop and Thomas de Aston, knights, and John de Leyre, John Broun and John de Outhorp, clerks, their heirs and assigns, of all the manors &c. which he had in fee simple in the county.
Colston Basset. John de Colston, who held of the said Ralph a messuage and 4 bovates of land there by service of fealty and suit of court every three weeks, came to the court of the said feoffees held at Colston Basset on Wednesday before St. George, 13 Richard II, and attorned for the said services and not otherwise; and William atte Vykers of Byngham held of the said Ralph a bovate of land in Colston Basset by homage and fealty and suit of court, and did not attorn to the feoffees. The premises are held by the aforesaid services of the manor of Colston Basset, which is held of the king, service not known.
He died on 12 May, 13 Richard II. Heirs as above (Warwick inquisition), aged respectively 24 years and more and 30 years and more.

NORTHAMPTON. Inq. taken at Northampton, Tuesday before the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 13 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Multon in fee tail on the day of his death by virtue of a fine levied in the king’s court at Westminster on the morrow of Ascension Day, 13 Edward III, between Ralph Basset of Drayton, his grandfather, and Joan the latter’s wife, Ralph son of Ralph son of Ralph Basset of Drayton and Joan daughter of Thomas de Bello Campo, late earl of Warwick, querents, and William de Herle, knight, and Thomas de Radeclyve, late parson of the church of Olneye, deforciants, whereby the manor was settled on the said Ralph Basset and Joan his wife for life, with successive remainders to the said Ralph son of Ralph [son of Ralph] and Joan the earl’s daughter and the heirs of their bodies, to the heirs male of the body of Ralph Basset, the grandfather, to Ralph de Stafford for life, to Richard de Stafford for life, to Ralph son of the said Ralph de Stafford and the heirs male of his body, to Richard son of the said Richard de Stafford and the heirs male of his body, to Thomas de Bello Campo, son of the said late earl of Warwick, and the heirs male of his body, and to the said late earl and his heirs. Ralph Basset, the grandfather, and Joan his wife were seised of the manor accordingly, and died so seised. The former is dead without heir male of his body. After his death the said Ralph son of Ralph son of Ralph Basset and Joan the earl’s daughter entered, and died without issue. Ralph de Stafford and Richard de Stafford are also dead, and Ralph and Richard, their respective sons, are dead without heirs male of their bodies. The aforesaid Ralph son of Ralph son of Ralph Basset and the Ralph Basset, knight, mentioned in the writ are one and the same person.
He also held the under-mentioned manor of Buckeby in fee tail on the day of his death by virtue of a fine levied as above between the parties mentioned above (except Joan wife of Ralph Basset of Drayton the grandfather), whereby the manor was settled on the said Ralph Basset for life, with remainders as above. Ralph Basset was seised of the manor accordingly, and died so seised. After his death &c., as above.
He also died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned manor of Wodeford by Byfeld, which he purchased for himself and his heirs from Henry Basset.
And also of the under-mentioned messuage &c. in Multon, which he purchased for himself and his heirs from William Wollaston, clerk.
And also of the reversion of the under-mentioned manor of Thorp Lobenham and lands &c. mentioned therewith, which John Vyncent of Rothewell holds for life, with reversion to the said Ralph and his heirs.
Multon. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Buckeby. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Wodeford by Byfeld. The manor, held of John Lovell, service not known.
Multon. A messuage, [2 virgates] (fn. 3) of land, 8 a. meadow and 2s. rent.

He held the under-mentioned messuage &c., in addition to the manors &c. mentioned in the previous inquisition, for life, by demise of Geoffrey Reynold and Joan his wife, in right of the said Joan, with reversion to Geoffrey and Joan and the heirs of Joan, by a fine levied in the king’s court.
Bukby. A messuage, 100 a. land, 10 a. meadow and 30 a. pasture, held of John duke of Lancaster, service not known.

RUTLAND. Inq. taken at Uppyngham, Monday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 15 Richard II.
The said Ralph was seised on the day of his death of the reversion of the under-mentioned messuages &c. after the death of John Wyldeboor, who holds them for life by his grant and demise.
Exton. 10 messuages, 10 tofts and 16 virgates of land by estimation, with the adjacent meadow, held of Joan Grene, lady of Exton, services not known.

STAFFORD. Inq. taken at Lychfeld, Friday after Holy Trinity, 13 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Walshale in fee tail on the day of his death by virtue of a fine levied as above (Buckingham inquisition: manor of Olneye). Ralph Basset, the grandfather, was seised of the manor by virtue of the said fine, &c. (ibid.).
He also held the under-mentioned manors of Drayton Basset and Patyncham (except 5 messuages and a mill in the said manor of Drayton) in fee tail on the day of his death by virtue of a fine levied in the king’s court at Westminster in the three weeks of Easter, 14 Edward III, between Ralph Basset of Drayton, knight, querent, and Ralph de Olney and Robert de Burlyngham, chaplains, deforciants, whereby the said manors (except as above) were settled on the said Ralph Basset and the heirs male of his body, with successive remainders to Ralph son of Ralph son of Ralph Basset of Drayton and the heirs of his body, to Ralph de Stafford for life, to Richard de Stafford for life, to Ralph son of Ralph de Stafford and the heirs male of his body, to Richard son of Richard de Stafford and the heirs male of his body, and to Thomas de Bello Campo and his heirs. The aforesaid Ralph Basset of Drayton, knight, had a son Ralph, who had a son Ralph and died in his father’s lifetime. After the death of Ralph the grandfather, Ralph the grandson entered into the manors (except as above). Ralph the grandfather is dead without heir male of his body. Ralph de Stafford and Richard de Stafford are dead. Ralph son of Ralph de Stafford and Richard son of Richard de Stafford are dead without heirs male of their bodies. Thomas de Bello Campo, late earl of Warwick, is dead, and Thomas de Bello Campo, the present earl, is his son and heir. The said Ralph son of Ralph son of Ralph Basset is the same person as Ralph Basset, knight, named in the writ. He died seised of the said manors (except as above) without heir of his body.
He also died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned 3 parcels of land in Walshale, 8 messuages &c. in Drayton, messuage in Drayton, messuage in Tamworth, reversion of the manor of Pakynton and 10 messuages in Faresley.
Walshale. The manor, held of the king in chief by service of rendering £4 yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff.
Drayton Basset and Patyncham. The manors (except 5 messuages and a mill in the said manor of Drayton).
Walshale. 3 parcels of land containing 1 1/2 carucates within the park of walshale, tenure not known. They were purchased from William Coleson, Thomas Hexstall and John Hugyn.
Drayton. 8 messuages, 2 carucates of land and 80 a. wood called ‘Jonesclos’, held of the manor of Drayton, services not known. They were purchased by the said Ralph from John atte Lee.
Drayton. A messuage which the said Ralph had by purchase of a bondman of his of the manor of Drayton, held of the said manor, services not known.
Tamworth. A messuage which the said Ralph purchased from Magota del Botrye, tenure not known.
Pakynton. The reversion of the manor expectant on the demise of Thomas de Aston, knight, who holds it for life by lease of the said Ralph, with reversion to Ralph and his heirs, tenure not known.
Faresley. 10 messuages, which the said Ralph purchased from Ralph Smyth, held of the manor of Drayton, services not known.

NORFOLK. Assignment of dower made at Sheryngham, 1 March, 14 Richard II.
Sheryngham manor. The southern third part of a grange, with the granary annexed thereto and an enclosed garden on the west side thereof, and with the pools in the said garden, free entry and exit being reserved for the lord of the other two-thirds of the manor to draw water from the said pools for food and drink and other necessary purposes, because very little water is found elsewhere within the manor; a third part of the dovecote, with free entry and exit through the door thereof; free entry and exit by day and night through the great gates of the manor to the buildings and garden assigned to her in dower; the western third part of a house in the market-place; certain tenants (named below) with their lands and holdings, both free and bond, and with their works, boonworks and rents; a court of the said tenants to be held every three weeks; a third part of the profit of the view of frankpledge, which shall always be held in common; a third part of a windmill; a third part of a custom of turbot; the profit of a third part of wreck of sea; a third part of the profit of the town market; a third part of the profit of coneys and the warren of the manor; a third part of the profit of the sheepwalk pertaining to the manor; 20 a. arable of the demesne lands of the manor; 1 a. 3 r. meadow; 12 a. heath and pasture; a third part of the enclosed pasture; and 30 a. wood in the great wood, with 1 r. wood at ‘le Heg’.
