WILTS.	Inq. made in the city of New Salisbury, Tuesday the last day of April, 38 Edward III.
	Sharnton. The manor, held in joint feoffment with Agnes his wife, who survives, of the king in chief by knight’s service, by a fine levied in the king’s court. Codeford. The manor, similarly held of the king in chief by knight’s service by the same fine. Stapelford. A moiety of the manor, similarly held of the king in chief by knight’s service by the same fine. Boyton. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held in joint feoffment as above, by a fine levied in the king’s court between John de Costone, chaplain, and the said deceased and Agnes his wife, of the earl of Salisbury by knight’s service. Corton. The manor, held in joint feoffment as above, and by the same fine, of Miles de Stapelton, knight, by knight’s service. He died on 16 February last. Joan the wife of John de Kaynis, knight, aged 22 years and more, and Eleanor the wife of John son of Richard earl of Arundel, aged 19 years and more, are his kinswomen and heirs. Stapelford. He held the other moiety of the manor (extent given) for life, by a fine levied in the king’s court, by gift of Henry Stourmy, to whom the reversion in fee belongs. He held no other lands &c. in the county.

	He held the following in joint feoffment with Agnes his wife, who survives, by a fine levied in the king’s court:— Est Mordon. The manor, held of the king in chief by service of rendering 8s. yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff. Wodeton in Mershwodevale. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held of Roger de Bello Campo by knight’s service. Lodres. The manor, held of the abbot of Forde by service of doing fealty only. Frome Whitfeld. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held of the earl of Hereford by knight’s service. Lichet Mautravers. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held of the duke of Clarence by knight’s service. Phelpeston. The manor, held of the abbess of Wilton by knight’s service. Upwymbourne. GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Gloucester, Tuesday after the Close of Easter, 38 Edward III (defaced by gall).
	Kyngestanlegh. The manor, held in joint feoffment with Agnes his wife, who survives, of the king in chief by knight’s service, by gift of Robert Sambourn, Henry de Tyngewyk, and John de Coston, chaplains, by a fine levied in the king’s court and with the king’s licence, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to John son of Richard earl of Arundel, and Eleanor daughter of John son of the deceased, and the heirs of the body of the said Eleanor by the said John, and failing such heirs to the right heirs of the said John son of the earl. (Cf. Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1354–1358, p. 595.) Wodecestre. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held jointly as above, in the same form and by the same fine, of the earl of Salisbury by knight’s service. Stonhouse. The manor, held jointly as above, in the same form and by the same fine, of the bishop of Worcester by fealty. Shurdyngton. The manor, held jointly as above, in the same form and by the same fine, of James de Audele, knight, lord of Beggeworth, by service of a pair of gilt spurs or 6d. yearly. Mynchenhampton. A carucate of land, 12a. meadow and 100s. yearly rent, held jointly as above, in the same form and by the same fine, of the abbess of Caen. Rokhampton. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, to him and the heirs male of his body, by a fine levied in the king’s court between him and William de Chiltenham and John de Coggeshale, whereby the said William and John granted him the manor and advowson, to hold as above, with remainder to Thomas son of Maurice de Berkele, knight, and his heirs. (Cf. Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1354–1358, p. 74.) Stoke Giffard. The manor, held of the bishop of Worcester by fealty, to him and the heirs male of his body, by a fine levied in the king’s court between him and Edmund de Bereford, Henry de Tyngewyk and Nicholas Pynnok, clerks, whereby they granted him the manor, to hold as above, with remainder to Thomas son of Maurice de Berkele the younger and the heirs male of his body. Walles. The manor, held of the bishop of Worcester by fealty, to him and the heirs male of his body, by grant of the same Edmund, Henry and Nicholas by a fine. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 16 February last. (Five lines at the end, which appear to give the devolution of Rokhampton, Stoke Gifford and Walles, are too much defaced to be intelligible.)
	Writ to the escheator to take the oath of Agnes late the wife of the deceased not to marry without the king’s licence, and then to assign dower to her. 18 April, 38 Edward III.
GLOUCESTER.	Assignment of dower in the manors of Stoke Giffard, Walles and Rokhampton, the reversion of which manors belongs, by the form of a fine levied in the king’s court, to Maurice son of Thomas son of Maurice de Berkele of Ule, aged 7 years.

WILTS.	Inq. made in the city of Salisbury, Tuesday the last day of April, 38 Edward III.
	Weremenstre. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, in joint feoffment with Juliana his wife, who survives, by a fine levied in the king’s court. Westbury. A messuage, 2 carucates of land, 20a. meadow, 100a. wood and 100s. rent, with the advowson of the chapel there, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, in joint feoffment as above, and by the same fine. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 1 April last. Maud daughter of Thomas Mauduyt his son, aged 9 years on the feast of St. Leonard last, is his heir.

HUNTINGDON.	Inq. taken at Huntyngdon, Wednesday after St. Petronilla, 38 Edward III.
	Bukworth. The manor, held for his life of William la Souche of Haveryngworth by knight’s service, by demise of Nicholas de Waddon and William Payn, chaplains, with remainder to Thomas Mauduyt, his son, and Joan his said son’s wife, and the heirs of their bodies. The said Thomas died on Friday after SS. Simon and Jude, 35 Edward III. Joan, after the death of John Mauduyt, claiming the manor by the above grant, entered and holds the manor. John died on the last day of March, 38 Edward III. Maud daughter of the aforesaid Thomas, aged 9 years and more, is his heir.

NORFOLK.	Inq. taken at Hormyngge (sic), Tuesday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 38 Edward III. (fn. 2)
	Hempstede. A moiety of the manor, held of the king in chief by service of three parts of a quarter of a knight’s fee, except 13a. land which he alienated with the king’s licence to Reynold de Ecles; and 6a. land, held of Reynold de Ecles by service of 5s. yearly. He died on Thursday before St. George last. Beatrice Bil, aged 30 years and more, daughter of Alice Maunsel, one of his sisters and heirs, and Rose, aged 18 years and more, married to Robert Robel, daughter of Mariota Maunsel, his other sister and heir, are his heirs.

	Thirlowe. A messuage, 34a. land, 1a. meadow and 1a. pasture, held of the king in chief by service of 1/4d. for scutage. He died about Michaelmas, 35 Edward III. John his son, aged 3 years and more, is his heir. Roger de Wolferston, escheator in the county, has been in possession of the premises and has received the issues for the king’s use since the said Robert’s death.

CUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at Carlisle, Monday after the Epiphany, 38 Edward III.
	Orreton. The manor, held of the heir of Richard de Kyrkebryde, a minor as above, by service of 3s. yearly for cornage, and by homage. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Saturday the feast of St. Wilfred, (fn. 3) 38 Edward III. Giles de Orreton his son, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

597.	MARGERY LATE THE WIFE OF WILLIAM PIPPARD.
	Writ, 24 August, 38 Edward III.
DEVON.	Inq. taken at Cherltone, Monday after the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, 38 Edward III.
	Cherlton. The manor (extent given). North Bovy (or Bovi). 8l. rents. Both held of William la Sowche for half a knight’s fee and a fourth part of a fee. These she held by gift of Edmund Pipard and Master Robert Pyle, by a fine levied in the king’s court, to her and William Pipard, knight, and the heirs male of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of William. Langedone and Litel Toteneys. The manor (or manors), containing 2 carucates of land and 14l. rent, held in the same form of the heirs of James de Cobham by services (sic) of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. She held no other lands &c. in the escheator’s bailiwick. She and the said William died without heir male of their bodies. She died on Monday after St. Laurence last. Margaret the wife of Warin de Insula, aged 32 years and more, and Maud the wife of Osbert Hamely, aged 30 years and more, are the heirs of the said William Pipard. Long before the death of Margery the said Osbert and Maud granted the reversion of all the manors &c. of Maud’s inheritance which might pertain to them through the death of William and Margery without heir male of their bodies to Master Thomas Bray by a fine, by virtue of which grant Margery attorned.

BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. (indented) taken at Alesbury, Saturday after All Saints, 38 Edward III.
	Wengrave. The manor, held for life jointly with William Pyppard her husband by gift of Robert Pyle, chaplain, and Robert Holdych to them and the heirs male of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of William, as is contained in a fine. The manor is held of the prince of Wales, as of the honor of Wallyngford, by homage and fealty and suit to his court of Walyngford yearly. She died on Monday after St. Laurence last without any heir male by the said William. Margaret the wife of Warin de Insula, knight, aged 32 years and more, and Maud the wife of Osbert Hamely, aged 30 years and more, daughters of the said William Pippard, are his heirs to his manor in Wengrave by virtue of the fine.

SUFFOLK.	Inq. taken at Hintlesham, Monday after the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 38 Edward III.
	Hintlesham. The manor (extent given), held for life jointly with William Pipard her husband by gift of Geoffrey Gilbert to them and the heirs male of their bodies, with remainder to Robert Fitz Elys and Margaret his wife and the heirs of their bodies, by a fine levied in the king’s court and with the king’s licence. The said William and Margery have died without heir male of their bodies. The manor, except a messuage therein, is held of the king in chief by service of a sparrowhawk (nisi), or 2s. yearly. The messuage is held of William Coppidok by service of 8d. yearly. The extent of the manor mentions a leet held on Whit Monday. Margery died on Monday after St. Laurence last. Robert Fitz Elys has been dead fifteen years; and Margaret his wife, who survives, is now married to Warin de Insula, knight. She and Maud the wife of Osbert Hamely are heirs of the blood of William Pippard. Margaret is 30 years of age and more, and Maud 28 years of age and more.

NORTHUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at the king’s castle of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Friday before Whitsun, 38 Edward III.
	The same Christiana, formerly the wife of Richard de Emeldon, tenant in chief, held in dower by the king’s assignment, of the inheritance of Maud and Alice, daughters of Agnes, eldest daughter and one of the heirs of the said Richard, and of Maud late the wife of Alexander de Hilton, knight, deceased, formerly the wife of Richard de Acton, and Jacoba now the wife of John de Strivelyn, knight, the other daughters of the said Richard de Emeldon and coheirs with Maud and Alice, the following:— Neuton on the Moor. A messuage and 4 1/2 husband-lands, each formerly rendering 5s. yearly but now waste, held of Sir John duke of Lancaster, as of his liberty of Dunstaneburgh, by service of doing suit to his court of Dunstaneburgh every three weeks. Broxfeld. A messuage and a carucate of land, formerly rendering 20s. yearly but now waste, held of Robert de Hilton, knight, by service of 1lb. pepper yearly. Woldon. Two messuages and 2 husband-lands, held of the lord de Percy by service of serving him with the cup (deserviendi sibi de cifho) on Christmas day. Shotton. 3a. meadow, held of the heir of the baron of Graystok as parcel of the town of Shotton without rent or service. Tyndeley. Two parts of the manor, held of John de Clifford, knight, as of the barony of Gaugy, by service of 1lb. cummin yearly. Whitlawe. A husband-land, formerly worth 6s. 8d. yearly but now waste, held of the king as is believed, rendering nothing. Alnemouth. A burgage worth 7d. yearly, held of the lord de Percy by the same rent. Lechebiry. 16a. land, held of the lord de Percy by service of 16d. yearly. Caldemertom. A third part of 2 1/2 husband-lands, formerly rendering 6s. 8d. yearly but now waste, held of John de Folebyry by service of 1lb. pepper yearly. Jesemuth. A third part of the manor, held of the king in chief by service of a third part of a knight’s fee. Mindrom. A third part of a moiety of the town, held of John de Mountagu, as of his castle of Werk on Tweed, by service of a sixth part of a knight’s fee. Elstewyk. 12a. 1r. land, and a third part of a dovecot let at farm for 10s. a year, held of the prior of Tynemuth by service of 4s. 0 1/2d. and a third part of a farthing yearly. She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on Saturday after Christmas last. The aforesaid Maud, aged 46 years, Alice, aged 40 years, Maud late the wife of Alexander de Hilton, aged 40 years, and Jacoba, aged 34 years, are heirs of the aforesaid Richard de Emeldon and Christiana to the inheritance aforesaid.

NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE.	Inq. taken before Robert de Angerton, mayor and escheator, Monday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 38 Edward III.
	The said Christiana held the following in dower after the death of Richard de Emeldon, her first husband, of the inheritance of the coheirs mentioned above:— Two tenements on le Denebrigg and three entirely waste tenements there. Two tenements in Galowegate and two entirely waste tenements there. A tenement in Gripechere. A tenement held by Robert Prentise near St. Nicholas’ church. A toft in Sydegate and one in Odeschere, both waste. All the above she held of the king in burgage. She also held in dower:— A third part of a great barn and an entire house for beasts, both waste. 12s. rent from a tenement of Robert Snell; 3s. rent from a tenement of Adam Ayre; rent from the tenements of John Copper in Westgate which used to render 2s. yearly but are now waste; rent from the ‘bothis’ of Thomas de Snape by les Fische Charnels which used to render 3s. yearly but are now waste; and rent from a tenement of Hugh Litster worth 2d. yearly. A tenement in Dalton Chere, entirely waste. She died on 20 December last. Maud late the wife of Alexander de Hilton, knight, aged 40 years, Maud and Alice daughters of Agnes the eldest daughter of Richard de Emeldon, aged 35 years, and Jacoba the wife of John de Stryvelyne, knight, aged 30 years and more, are her heirs.

(1) Pourparty of John de Stryvelyn and Jacoba his wife:— A tenement held by Robert Prentys near St. Nicholas’ church, with a waste place in Hokerchere. A tenement built on le Denebrig in front of Pilgrymstrete. A tenement and the moiety of another in Horsemarketgat next to Coly. The western third part of a third part of a great barn. The western third part of a house called ‘le Bur.’ The western third part of a house called ‘le Haghouse.’ The western third part of a waste plot in Sydegate. 6s. 6d. rent from a tenement late of Henry Paynetour now held by Robert Snell. A third part of the rent from the tenement of John Sopper (rectius Copper) in Westgate. A third part of the rent from the tenement of Hugh Litster in le Syde. A third part of a waste plot in Dalton Cher. (2) Pourparty of Maud late the wife of Alexander de Hilton, formerly the wife of Richard de Acton:— Two shops with solars on the corner of Grype Cher facing the street leading to All Saints’ church, with a plot of waste in Brad Cher lately held by William Coek. Two houses on le Denebrig, with a plot of waste by the bridge. A tenement [held by] Peter Donsetz in Horsemarketgate. The eastern third part of a third part of a great barn. The middle third parts of the aforesaid houses called ‘le Bir’ and ‘Haghouse,’ and of the waste plot in Sydgate. 6s. 6d. rent from a tenement late of Henry Payntour now held by Robert Snell. A third part of a rent from the ‘kethis’ late of Thomas de Snape at Fissh Shameles. A third part of the rents from the aforesaid tenements of John Copper and Hugh Litster. A third part of a plot of waste in Dalton Cher. (3) Pourparty of Maud and Alice, daughters of Agnes, eldest daughter of Richard de Emeldon, retained in the king’s hand:— A hall with two cellars in Gripcher. A waste plot at le Wall. Two houses on le Denbrig at the west end. A house and half another one, waste, in Horsmarketgat, in the middle between the pourparties of John de Strevelyne and Maud late the wife of Alexander de Hilton. 	Ward of Bradestret. A tenement with houses built thereon, worth 5l. 16s. yearly less 37s. 9d. for repairs. Parish of St. Benet Fynk. A tenement, worth 40s. yearly less 10s. yearly payable to the house of St. Anthony and 10s. for repairs; and a tenement late of Richard de Burford, worth 30s. yearly less 2 1/2d. of socage payable yearly to the bishop of London and 9s. 11d. for repairs. Ward of Bradestret. 24s. quit rent from the tenement of Richard de la Vache, and 12d. of socage from the same tenement. Parish of St. Margaret, Lothebury. Two tenements formerly belonging to Master Richard de Shamelesford and Roger de Kempele, worth 60s. yearly less 33s. 4d. yearly payable to the heirs of Henry Bedyk and 8s. 10 1/2d. for repairs; and two houses, worth 32s. yearly less 10s. 8d. for repairs. (Unspecified.) Three shops with a garden, worth 48s. yearly less 16s. for repairs, together with the advowson of the church of St. Bartholomew the Less; a tenement late of [Simon] Cheksond and Sarah his wife, worth 53s. 8d. yearly less 12d. yearly for keeping a lamp burning in the church of St. Benet Fynk and 17s. 6 1/2d. for repairs; 2s. 8 1/2d. of socage from the tenement of the archdeacon of Colchester; 2s. 7d. of socage from the brewery of the prioress of Haliwell in the lane of St. Bartholomew the Less, London; 6 1/2d. of socage from the tenement of Walter de Walden; 2d. from the rector of the church of St. Christopher; and 4d. of socage from the tenement formerly belonging to Richard de Courtenhale and now held by Robert [Roch]. All the above are held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city. The deceased held no other lands &c. within the liberties of the city. Date of death not known. Joan and Alice daughters of John Plescy the younger, aged 40 years and more, are his heirs. The deceased in his testament proved and enrolled in the husting of London bequeathed the premises to four chaplains to celebrate for his soul and the souls of others, two in the church of Staundon, diocese of London, and one each in the churches of St. Bartholomew the Less and St. Mary le Bow, London. (See Calendar of Wills, Court of Husting, London, II, 48.) And because it appeared to the bishop of London that the premises were insufficient for the support of four chaplains, he ordained that only two should so celebrate, whereupon John Durham, chaplain, was instituted in the said chantry and had possession of the premises and received the rents from Michaelmas, 35 Edward III, until Michaelmas, 36 Edward III, when he instituted another chaplain, John Redyng by name. From then these two were in possession until the feast of St. Katharine, 37 Edward III, when they retired, and from then Sir William de Harewardstok and Sir William Northawe, chaplains, were in possession until Quinquagesima Sunday, 38 Edward III, since when John Pelham and the aforesaid William Northawe, chaplains, have been in possession.

	Osgotby. A toft and a bovate of poor land, held of Robert son and heir of William Bard of Osgotby, who held of the king in chief as of the honor of Aumale, by homage and service of 3d. The said Robert was late a minor in the king’s wardship but has long been of full age. The deceased held no other lands &c. He died in 23 Edward III in the pestilence, day not known. William de Ryghton his son, aged 50 years and more, is his heir. The escheators have received the issues from the time of his death until now, and have been charged with them in their accounts to the king.

NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. (indented) taken at Toucestre, 10 December, 38 Edward III.
	Stokbruere and Aldrington. A third part of the manor (extent given), held of Juliana countess of Huntingdon, who still survives, by knight’s service. This third part the said countess holds in dower after the death of John de Hastinges, her late husband. At Aldrington are 40a. land in demesne, half fallow, and the other half worth only 4d. an acre a year because it lies by the king’s forest and is destroyed yearly by the king’s deer. She died on Wednesday the eve of St. James last. John son of John de Oxenford, her kinsman, aged 11 years and more at the feast of St. Martin last, is her heir.

602.	MARIOTA LATE THE WIFE OF HENRY SENESCHAL.
	Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Mariota, who held of the archbishopric of Canterbury, lately void and in the king’s hand, by knight’s service, and as to who has been in possession of her lands &c. since her death and received the issues. 6 April, 38 Edward III.
KENT.	Inq. (indented) taken at Wyngeham by Canterbury, 11 June, 38 Edward III.
	Wyngeham. 11a. land, held of the archbishopric of Canterbury, lately void by John de Upford and in the king’s hand, as of the manor of Wyngeham which is parcel of the archbishopric, by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee, and by service of doing suit to the archbishop’s court at his palace of Canterbury every three weeks. She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on the last day of July, 21 Edward [III]. Maud Seneschal daughter of John Seneschal, then aged one year and now 17 years, was her heir. She became a professed nun at Markyate ten years ago. Alice Mersch’, wife of John Maynard, had possession of the land for four years following the death of Mariota, and received the profits, by what title the jurors know not. James Lapyn, escheator and sheriff of Kent, took the land into the king’s hand after the death of Mariota (sic), and had possession and received the issues and profits for the king’s use for three years after the death of Mariota (sic), and he and his executors have to answer to the king. The said James demised the land at farm to one Richard Seneschal at a rent of 6s. 8d. yearly. Richard Seneschal has been in possession for the last ten years and has received the issues and profits, and has to answer for them to the king.

BEDFORD.	Inq. taken at Bedford, Tuesday the feast of St. Barnabas, 38 Edward III.
	Sutton. 14a. land, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. He died on 14 February, 25 Edward III. Margaret and Agnes his daughters, one aged 22 years and the other aged 24 years and more, are his heirs. The king has received all the profits up to now by his escheators, to wit, by John de Amden, escheator, for two years, by Gerard de Braybrook for two years, by John Chasteleyn for two years, by Ralph de Quedon for one year, by Peter de Salford for one year, and by William de Otteford, the present escheator, for five years and a half.

	Melton. The manor, held for life jointly with William de Sevaunce, late her husband, who held in chief, of the inheritance of William son of the said William, a minor in the king’s wardship. The manor is held of the earl of Gloucester by knight’s service, amount not known. She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on Thursday the feast of SS. Simon and Jude, 30 Edward III. William son of William de Sevaunce, aged 21 years and more, is son and heir of the said William. Alice late the wife of John de Staunton was in possession of the manor and received the issues and profits thereof by the king’s grant from the time of the death of Elizabeth until the lawful age of the aforesaid heir.

NORTHUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at Alnewyk in Cokedale, 20 October, 38 Edward III.
	He died on Friday after St. James last, to wit on 26 July, seised of:— Heppale. A moiety of the manor, containing 100a. land in demesne and 8 decayed cottages, held of the king in chief by homage and fealty and by service of a sixth part of a knight’s fee. The following are held of the said moiety:— Bykerton. The manor, held freely by Thomas de Bykerton by service of 8s. yearly and suit of court every three weeks. Tyrwhytt. A moiety of the manor, held freely by Hugh de Galoun by service of 1lb. cummin yearly, worth 2d., and suit of court as above. Warton. A moiety of the town, held freely by Richard del Park by service of 6d. yearly and suit of court as above. Great Tossan. A husband-land, held freely by William Schort by service of 3d. yearly and suit of court. He held no other lands &c. in the county. Henry Taylboys his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

606.	GILBERT VEYSY.
	Writ, 29 June, 38 Edward III.
ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Waldon, 5 July, 38 Edward III.
	Wyditon. The manor, held jointly with Katharine his wife, who survived him, by gift of John Berneris and Reynold Berneris to them and the heirs of Gilbert. The manor is held of the king by service of 7s. yearly by the hands of the sheriff, and by suit to the king’s hundred of Huddlisford every three weeks and to the sheriff’s tourn twice a year. He died on the eve of All Saints, 35 Edward III. The said Katharine was in possession of the manor by virtue of the above grant from the time of his death until Whitsunday last, when she died. Katharine and Maud his daughters, aged respectively 10 years and more and 7 years and more, are his heirs.
	Writ of certiorari to the escheator, on representations by John de Playce that the manor of Wydeton is not held of the king in chief, as is alleged by the above inquisition, but of the said John as mesne between the deceased’s heirs and the king. The escheator is to enquire if this is so, and as to the service due and the value of the manor. 8 November, 38 Edward III.
ESSEX.	Inq. (indented) taken at Colecestre, Friday the eve of St. Clement the Pope, 38 Edward III.
	Wydyton. Gilbert Veysy and Katharine his wife held the manor jointly for life by gift of John and Reynold Berneris, with successive remainders in tail to their daughter Katharine and their daughter Maud. The manor is held of John de Plays, knight, by service of one knight’s fee, and Gilbert and Katharine on behalf of the said John de Plays used to pay to the sheriff 7s. yearly for the king’s use and do suit to the king’s hundred of Hudelesford every three weeks and to the sheriff’s tourn twice a year. The said John in turn holds the manor as a mesne of the king as parcel of his barony of Mounfychet, and he and his ancestors have held it time out of mind. It is worth 10l. yearly.

	Kynefare and Storton. The manors, and the office of being keeper of the forest of Kynefare, held of the king in chief by service of rendering 9l. yearly at the Exchequer. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 29 January, 17 Edward III. Hugh his son, of full age, is his heir. The inquisition does not know who has been in possession of the premises since his death and received the profits.

608.	DAVID VAGHAN.
	Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said David, and who has been in possession of his lands since his death and received the issues. 7 February, 38 Edward III.
HEREFORD AND THE MARCH OF WALES.	Inq. taken at Hereford, 7 March, 38 Edward III.
	Seynt Ussil. A messuage, 54 1/2a. land and 4 perches of wood, held of Laurence (sic) de Hastynges son and heir of Laurence de Hastynges late earl of Pembroke, a minor in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service and service of 16s. rent yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county or march. He died on 28 March, 23 Edward III. Nesta daughter of Walter his son, aged 2 1/2 years, is his heir. Walter Vaghan was in possession of the premises by the king’s writ from the time of his father David’s death until 20 September, 35 Edward III, when he died. Since then John son of Andrew Wysmon has been in possession without any title.

GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Gloucestre, 12 April, 38 Edward III.
	St. Briavels. 12a. land, held of the king in chief by service of keeping St. Briavels castle in time of war. Piryton. A messuage, 20a. land and 4a. meadow, held of Gilbert Talbot by service of 7s. 6d. yearly. Rokhampton. A messuage, 26a. land and 5a. meadow, held of John Mautravers by service of 30s. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday before St. Barnabas, 22 Edward III. John Waryn his son, aged 21 years and more, is his heir. Guy de Brien, keeper of the king’s castle of St. Briavels, and of the forest of Dene, immediately after the death of the said William entered the premises and seized them by colour of his office, and afterwards demised the custody of them until the lawful age of the heir aforesaid to Walter Vaughan, who had possession and received the issues.

John Daneys, aged 12 years and more, a minor in the king’s wardship, is heir in reversion after the death of William and Margaret by the purchase of Roland Daneys, knight, deceased, his uncle.
