	Writ after the death of the said Giles, who died a minor in the king’s wardship. 5 January, 35 Edward III.
SUFFOLK.	Inq. taken at Cavendyssh, 13 January, 35 Edward III.
	Cavendyssh. 2a. land and 1a. meadow, held of John de Cavendyssh by service of 1/2d. yearly. He died on Thursday before St. Luke last. Christiana the wife of William Chaunberleyn of Cavendyssh, aged 30 years and more, and Juliana and Beatrice her sisters, aged respectively 24 years and more and 22 years and more, are kinswomen and heirs of the said Giles, to wit, daughters of Ellen, daughter of Gilbert, brother of Roger Normand, grandfather of the said Giles.

	Alurynton. The manor (extent given), held of Edward le Despenser in chief by knight’s service. Cirencestre. A messuage, held of the abbot of Cirencestre in chief by service of 6d. yearly; a messuage, held of the master of the hospital of Quenynton in chief by service of 6s. yearly; and a cottage, held of William Erchebaud in chief by service of 2s. yearly. He died on 21 October, 35 Edward III. Margaret, wife of John le Chaumberleyn, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

	Kemele. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. Mourle. A messuage with 40a. arable, 10a. meadow, 50a. several pasture, 8a. wood, 7s. rent of free tenants, 2 half-virgaters whose rents and services are worth 3s. 7 1/2d. each yearly, and pleas &c. of court worth 5s. yearly. The premises (described in the Exchequer inquisition as a manor) are held of the abbot of Malmesbury by service of 5s. yearly. Coulesfelde Loveras. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of keeping two wolf-hounds (canes pro lupo). Hynesete. 100s. rent with pleas &c. worth 2s. yearly, tenure not known. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 21 October last. Margaret, daughter of Agnes Norman the sister of Roger Norman, father of the said Giles, aged 40 years and more, married to John Chaumberleyn, is his heir.
SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. made at Basyngstok, 4 December, 35 Edward III.
	Warynstrete. A toft and 3a. land, with the office of forester (balliva forestaria) in the forest of la Bokholte, held of the king in chief by service of finding a forester to keep the said forest. West Tuderle. The manor (extent given), held of Miles de Stapulton, knight, as of his manor of Deone, by service of a fifth part of a knight’s fee. The extent includes pastures called ‘la Leye’ and ‘Gosmere.’ Chelwarton. The manor (extent given), comprising 2 carucates of land containing 200a., one of which is held of the lady Isabel the king’s daughter, as of her manor of Hamstede Mareschal, by knight’s service and 12d. rent, and the other of the heirs of Roger Brayboef, knight, by service of a greyhound (leporarii) yearly. Clatford. The manor (extent given, including a fulling-mill and 24s. 4d. rents of free tenants, of which 13s. 4d. is paid back to Thomas Sakevyle), held of the heirs of Roger de Mortuo Mari by service of a pair of gilt spurs yearly. Shirle. The manor (extent given), held of the earl of la March by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. Andevere. A messuage, 60a. arable and 4a. meadow, held of the countess of Kent by service of 4s. rent yearly. Southampton. A messuage with three cellars worth 4l. yearly, held of the bailiffs of the town as parcel of their farm. Todeworth. (fn. 1) The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of the countess of Kent, as of her manor of Camel, by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county. SOMERSET.	Inq. (indented) taken at Somerton, Monday the feast of St. Valentine, 36 Edward III.
	Stoke under Hameldon. A messuage and 15a. land, held of the heir of John de Beauchamp of Somerset, a minor in the king’s wardship, by service of keeping his fees in Somerset and Dorset belonging to the manor of Stoke under Hameldon, and rendering 6s. yearly to the lord of Stoke. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 6 November last. John Pistor his son, aged 14 years and more, is his heir.

	Wyke by Compton Daundo. The hamlet, held of Edmund de Lyons by fealty and by rendering 1d. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Saturday before St. Nicholas last. Thomas his son, aged 9 years and more, is his heir.

WILTS.	Inq. made at Salisbury, 24 May, 36 Edward III.
	Fitelton. A third part of the manor (extent given), held of the king in chief at a yearly fee-farm of 12l. payable at the Exchequer, by gift of Richard de Coumbe, knight, and by the king’s charter of licence shewn at the taking of this inquisition; and 4 messuages and 4 virgates of land containing 80a., held of the heirs of Richard de Coumbe, knight, as of two parts of the manor aforesaid, service not known. Beydon. 2 messuages and a carucate of land containing 100a., held of the bishop of Salisbury by service of 17s. 4d. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 7 October last. LANCASTER.	Inq. taken at Preston, Tuesday after Holy Trinity, 36 Edward III.
	Asshton. A messuage and a piece of land and meadow called ‘Tulketh’ containing 40a., held in socage of the earl of Lancaster in right of his wife by service of 40d. yearly. Rybelton. 36a. land and 4a. meadow, held of the earl of Lancaster in socage by fealty and service of 4s. yearly. Thorneton. A messuage and 20a. land, held of the earl of Lancaster in right of his wife by service of 16d. yearly. Wynmerlegh in the town of Garstang. A rent of 8 marks from a messuage and 100a. land demised to Sir William de Horneby for his life by the deceased. The tenements are held of a moiety of the manor of Wiresdale in socage by fealty and service of 4s. yearly. The said moiety was formerly Sir William de Coucy’s and is now in the king’s hand and in the custody of John de Coupeland by the king’s commitment. He held no other lands &c. in the county or elsewhere in the escheator’s bailiwick. He died on Sunday before All Saints, 35 Edward III. Roger Travers his son, aged 8 years, is his heir.

	Cramlyngton. 8 waste messuages, 176a. waste land and 6a. meadow in the hands of tenants at will rendering 20s. yearly, held of the king in chief, as of the crown, by knight’s service. Trewik. The manor (extent given), held of Thomas de Bekeryng by fealty and by service of 6s. 8d. yearly or a sore sparrowhawk. Hertlowe. A messuage and 18a. land in the hands of tenants at will rendering 10s., held of Robert de la Vale by knight’s service. Bolum. A messuage and 18a. land in the hands of tenants at will rendering 8s. yearly, held of Thomas de Bekeryng by knight’s service. Belshowe. 8a. land, held of Sir John de Strivelyn by fealty and by service of 1/2lb. pepper, 1lb. cummin and a pair of gloves or 1d. yearly at Christmas. He held no other lands &c. in the county or elsewhere, as the jurors understand. He died on 30 October last. Thomas de Trewyk his son, aged 20 years, is his heir.

SUFFOLK.	Inq. taken at Hintlesham, 6 March, 36 Edward III.
	Hintlesham. A moiety of the manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. The extent includes a leet held on Monday in Whitsun week. She died on Saturday before St. Bartholomew last. Peter Talbot her son, aged 46 years and more, is her heir.

261.	JOHN DE VAL of Broghton.
	Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John, and who has been in possession of his lands since his death and received the issues. 15 January, 35 Edward III.
WARWICK.	Inq. dated at Stretford, Monday before the Purification, 36 Edward III.
	Compton. The manor, held of Ralph earl of Stafford by service of homage, fealty, wardship and marriage. Broghton. The manor, held in joint feoffment with Margaret his wife, who survives, of Peter de Monteforte, knight, by service of homage, fealty, wardship and marriage, and by service of 10s. yearly; and he shall provide 6 men in autumn to reap the said Peter’s corn for one day. Lodyngton. The manor, held of William le Botiler, knight, by service of homage and fealty and doing suit to his court of Overesleye every three weeks. He died on the feast of St. Denis, 34 Edward III. His kinsmen John Burdet, aged 15 years and more, and John Norys, aged 21 years and more, are his heirs. Ralph earl of Stafford, Margaret, wife of the deceased, and William Botiler, knight, have been in possession of the manors of Compton, Broghton and Lodyngton respectively since the death of the deceased.

GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Caumpeden, Monday before the Purification, 36 Edward III.
	Mukelton. 2 messuages and a virgate of land, held of the abbot of Eynesham by service of 6s. 8d. yearly and by suit of court every three weeks; and he shall bleed (flebotamabit) the abbot’s oxen in the manor of Mukelton yearly on the feast of St. Stephen. Quenton. 2 messuages and 2 1/2 virgates of land, held of the same abbot by service of 3s. 4d. and suit every three weeks to the abbot’s court at Mukelton. Larkestoke. A messuage and 2 1/2 virgates of land, held of John de Peyto in chief by service of 6s. yearly. He died on Friday after St. Denis, 34 Edward III. John Noreys, aged 21 years and more, is his heir. Henry Noreys and John his son, and Margaret, wife of the deceased, have been in possession of the premises in Mukelton and Quenton, and John de Peyto and Margaret aforesaid have been in possession of those in Larkestoke, since the death of the deceased.

MIDDLESEX.	Inq. (indented) taken at Westminster, 17 May, 36 Edward III.
	Pomfreyth. The manor (extent given, including a chief messuage totally waste and in ruins), held of the void bishopric of London, as of the manor of Storteford, by service of rendering 16d. yearly and doing suit every three weeks to the bishop’s court at Storteford. He held no other lands &c. in the county of Kent (sic). He died on 4 June last. Hamo Vaghan his son, aged 1 year, is his heir.

ESSEX.	Inq. (fn. 2) taken at Westillebery, 20 May, 36 Edward III.
	Westillebery. The manor (extent given, including a rabbit warren, a millpond, ‘Carterishope,’ 258 1/2a. marsh, and a leet held about Christmas), held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Reilegh, by service of a knight’s fee. The extent includes also the free chapel of St. Mary Magdalene, in which a chaplain shall celebrate daily for ever for the souls of the predecessors of the king and the ancestors of the lords of the manor, receiving yearly out of the manor 112s. 8d., which chapel was founded in the time of St. Thomas the Martyr. There is also a wall enclosing the aforesaid marsh from the river Thames, the upkeep of which costs 10s. a year. Plumbergh. The manor, held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Reilegh, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee. He died on 6 June last. Hamo his son, aged 44 weeks, is his heir. William de Hinton, bailiff of the honor of Reilegh, has received all the profits &c. from these manors since the death of the said Thomas.

	Henhurst by Schyngeldwell. The manor (extent given), held of the earl of Stafford, as of his manor of Tonebregg, by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county. Date of death and heir as first above.

SURREY.	Inq. (indented) taken at Southwerk, 28 January, 36 Edward III.
	Coldeherbergh in Hacchesham. The manor so called, whereof a messuage and 9a. land are held of the king, as of the manor of Hacchesham (which is in the king’s hand by the gift of Roger Bavent), by service of rendering 14d. yearly to the said manor and 12d. yearly to the king by the hands of the sheriff. The rest of the manor, which is in Camerwell, is held of the earl of Stafford by knight’s service, amount not known, and by service of doing suit to the earl’s court of Camerwell every three weeks. (fn. 3) The premises are charged in 53s. 4d. yearly to James de Webbeleye for his life by a writing made by William Vaghan, knight, late lord thereof, ancestor of Thomas, Thomas being his kinsman and heir. He held no other lands &c. in the county. Date of death and heir as first above.

A messuage, a virgate of land, 1a. meadow and 2a. pasture, held of William la Souche, service not known, paying yearly to William de Murydon 26s. 8d. for life and to Hugh Hager and Maud, his wife, 13s. 4d. for the life of Maud. Sambrok. A carucate of land, held of Richard de Peshale, service not known. He died on Friday after Ascension day last. Hamo his son, aged three-quarters of a year and more, is his heir.

263.	MAUD LATE THE WIFE OF NICHOLAS DE WYGHT.
	Writ, 3 January, 35 Edward III.
LONDON.	Inq. taken before the mayor, 4 January, 35 Edward III.
	Parish of St. Mary Wolnoth. A tenement in Lumbardstret, worth 10l. 13s. 4d. [yearly], less 53s. 4d. for repairs. Parish of St. Dionis Bakecherche. A tenement in the street called Fancherchestret, worth 26s. 8d. yearly, less 6s. 8d. for repairs, and a small piece of land in Manchenelane worth nothing. The two tenements are charged in 6l. 13s. 4d. yearly to a chaplain celebrating in the aforesaid church of St. Mary Wolnoth for the soul of the said Maud for seven years after her death. She died on 3 July, 35 Edward III, and has no heirs. The premises are held of the king in chief in free burgage, as is the whole city.

A messuage and a carucate of land, held of Roger Colrythe by service of 20s. rent. Drayton. A messuage and a carucate of land, held of the prior of St. Swithun’s, Winchester, by service of 5 marks rent. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 1 October last. Richard de Wynton his brother, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

	Wanstede. A messuage with curtilage and garden, 30a. arable, 1 1/2a. meadow, 2a. pasture, 1/2a. wood, pasture in common for 2 horses, 4 oxen and 100 sheep, and 2 free tenants rendering 11s. 9d. yearly, held of the king in chief by service of providing a hobeler in the king’s castle of Portchestre for eight days at his own costs in time of war, and paying the king 10s. 2d. yearly by the hands of the constable of the castle. A croft of arable containing 6a. and 1/2a. wood, held of Richard Daunvers by service of 3s. yearly. 4a. pasture, held of Bernard Brokeys by service of 15d. and 1lb. pepper yearly. 1a. arable, held of Henry Sturmy by service of 6d. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 25 October last. John de Wanstede his son, aged 3 years and more, is his heir.

She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on Wednesday after All Saints last. James her son, aged 19 years, is her heir.

	Deuelissh. The manor (extent given), held of Lionel earl of Ulster by knight’s service. Dontissh. The manor (extent given), held of the abbot of Glastonbury by knight’s service. He died on 4 September, 35 Edward III. Robert his son (age left blank) is his heir.

268.	JOHN DE GILDESBURGH, citizen and fishmonger of London.
LONDON.	Inq. taken before the mayor, Wednesday after St. Lucy, 35 Edward III.
	The said John was a bastard. He died about the feast of St. Luke, 23 Edward III, seised of:— Parish of St. Mary Somerset. Four tenements and a quay and 21 cottages, which he bequeathed for payment of his debts and to maintain his chantry in the aforesaid church to Richard his brother, for life, and then to Margaret, Isabel and Juliana, daughters of Isabel de Moleseye, for life, with remainder after their death to the next heirs of his own blood. Richard and the aforesaid three daughters of Isabel de Moleseye were bastards. After the death of John the said Richard entered and remained in possession until his death, after which Margaret, Isabel and Juliana entered. Subsequently Margaret and Isabel alienated their shares in fee to John Tornegold, citizen and fishmonger of London. Juliana retains her share, which after her death will remain to the king. The premises are held of the king in chief in free burgage, as is the whole city. Attached is a copy of a writ of certiorari super causa capcionis dated 13 March, 36 Edward III; with a return that the mayor took the premises into the king’s hand on account of the above inquisition taken by himself ex officio on Wednesday after St. Lucy, 35 Edward III.

269.	NICHOLAS DE HOREWODE.
	Writ, 3 January, 35 Edward III.
LONDON.	Inq. taken before the mayor, 4 January, 35 Edward III.
	He died on Friday in Whitsun week, (fn. 4) which was the last day of May, 35 Edward III., seised of:— Ismongerslane. A brewhouse and 2 shops, in ruins. Parish of St. Botolph without Aldresgate in the suburb. 4 shops with solars above and a little garden at ‘le Barbikan.’ All held of the king in chief in free burgage, as is all the city. The said Nicholas has no heirs.
