Inquisitions Post Mortem, Henry VII, Appendix IV

It is clear from a comparison of the ancient MS. index to the Chancery inquisitions of the reign of Henry VII (P.R.O. Index 16812) with the series of inquisitions as it now exists that many inquisitions have been lost since the index was compiled. Some of these were lost after the compilation of the index but before the inquisitions were numbered, and consequently appear in the index under the tenants’ names but without numerical references. A list of these is given in section (a) of this Appendix. Others have been lost since the numeration of the documents, and the names of the tenants to whom they referred are recoverable from the index. A list of these is given in section (b) of this Appendix.

Footnotes

  • 1. This volume contains a collection of virtute officii inquisitions covering the whole reign. The section of the ancient MS. index which deals with it deals at the same time with a similar collection for the reign of Richard III. It is possible, therefore, that some of the missing inquisitions noted in the above list may belong to the latter reign.
