851.	GEORGE, EARL OF KENT.
	Inquisition, virtute officii, 29 June, 23 Henry VII.
	He was seised in fee of the under-mentioned manor, and suffered a recovery thereof in the king’s court to John Mordaunt and others to the use of himself and his heirs. After his death the right to the manor in use descended to Richard, now earl of Kent, as his son and heir, who enfeoffed John Husee, knight, and others, thereof, to hold to them and their heirs.

853.	ROGER HYET of Fromylode.
	Writ to the mayor and escheator of Gloucester to enquire as to the death and heir of the said Roger; as it was found by an inquisition taken before John Gyse, the younger, esquire, escheator of Edward IV, that Emma Hyet held in fee a third part of a third part of the lordship or manor of Kyngeshome by Gloucester of the said late king by service of a ninth part of a knight’s fee, and that the said Roger was her son next and heir, and of full age, and the king is now informed that Roger died before suing livery of the said part out of the late king’s hands; 10 July, 3 Henry VII. inquisition 4 September, 4 Henry VII.
	The said Roger died 19 September, 3 Henry VII. Richard Hyet, aged 40 years and more, is his son and heir.

855.	WALTER HERBERT, knight.
	Inquisition, virtute officii, 20 November, 23 Henry VII.
	William, earl of Huntingdon, was seised in fee of the under-mentioned castles and lordships, and died so seised. After his death the said Walter entered into the premises and took the issues and profits thereof from the day of the earl’s death during his own life, to wit, from 16 July, 6 Henry VII, until 16 September, 23 Henry VII, by what title the jurors know not. Walter died on the said 16 September. Elizabeth wife of Charles Somersett, knight, lord Herbert of Gower and Chepstowe, aged 30 years and more, is daughter and heir of the said earl and kinswoman and heir of the said Walter, to wit, daughter of the earl his brother.
GLOUCESTER AND THE ADJACENT MARCHES OF WALES.	Castle of Chepstowe, and lordships of Chepstowe and Tudenham, with all their members, worth 100 marks, held of the king in chief by knight-service. 856.	ALEXANDER DRAX, esquire.
	Inquisition …… ., [? 18 Henry VII].
	He died 12 August, 16 Henry VII. Isabel wife of Walter Calverley, aged 13 years and more, is his kinswoman and heir, to wit, daughter and heir of John Drax his son and heir.
YORK.	The inquisition is mostly illegible; but from what can be read it appears that the findings are practically identical with those of a subsequent inquisition taken on a writ of Mandamus in 2 Henry VIII [C. Series II. Vol. 25. (111.) and E. Series II. File 217. (24.)], except for the age of the heir. The lands concerned are the manors of Wodhall and Collom by Sledmore, the advowson of a mediety of the church of Derfeld, and divers messuages and lands &c. in Wodhall, Collom, Crome, Derfeld, Hymlyngfeld, Ederthorp, Smetheley, Tykhyll, Wombewell, Frykley and Pygbourne. There is mention of a settlement made on John Drax, Alexander’s son and heir apparent, and Margaret, daughter of Percival Amyas, and the heirs of their bodies, and of the provision of life estates after his (Alexander’s) death for Margaret, his wife, and his three sons, Nicholas Drax, Thomas Drax and Robert Drax.

857.	THOMAS TREGARTHEN.
	Inquisition, virtute officii, 1 April, 24 Henry VII.
	He was seised in fee of the under-mentioned manor of Tregarthen and the messuage &c. mentioned therewith, and by his charter dated 5 March, 21 Henry VII, enfeoffed thereof Robert Wylloghby, lord Broke, Robert Scheffeld, knight, and Richard Whitlegh and Richard Coryngton, esquires, to hold to them and their heirs for the performance of his last will. During their seisin he made his last will, and thereby directed that the said feoffees should demise the premises to John Chamound for life, with successive remainders to Thomas Chamound, son of the said John and of Margaret late his wife, the testator’s daughter, and the heirs male of the body of the said Thomas Chamound, to the heirs male of the body of Joan Poyle, widow, to the heirs male of the body of Philippa wife of Richard Hore, and to his own right heirs. By their charter dated 8 March, 24 Henry VII, the said feoffees disposed of the premises accordingly, and the said John Chamound was, and still is, seised of them for life in his demesne as of free tenement, with remainders as above. The said Thomas was also seised in fee of the under-mentioned 30 messuages &c. in Kystelsyns &c., and by his charter dated 1 April, 21 Henry VII, granted them to Joan Poyle, widow, Margaret Chamound, wife of John, and Philippa wife of Richard Hore, his daughters, and the heirs of their bodies; and his said daughters were seised thereof accordingly in fee tail. The said Thomas was also seised in fee of the under-mentioned messuages &c. in Tregamelyon, Polscoyth and Leskerd Burgh, and by his charter dated 10 April, 19 Henry VII, enfeoffed thereof John Archer and Roger Trenowyth, chaplains, to hold to them and their heirs to the use of Richard Whitlegh, esquire, and Mary, his wife, for life, and after their death to the use of Margaret late wife of John Chamound and the heirs of her body, and in default of such heirs to the use of Joan Poyle, widow, and the heirs of her body, and in default of such heirs to the use of Philippa wife of Richard Hore and the heirs of her body, and in default of such heirs to the use of the said Thomas and his heirs. The said feoffees were seised thereof accordingly, and by their charter dated 16 April, 19 Henry VII, demised the premises to the said Richard and Mary for life, with remainders as above; and Richard and Mary were seised thereof accordingly in their demesne as of free tenement. The said Thomas was also seised in fee on the day of his death of the under-mentioned messuages &c. in Trigyan, Trelyan Vyan and Treverek, and after his death they descended by inheritance to Joan Tregarthen and Margaret Tregarthen, his kinswomen and heirs, to wit, daughters of John Tregarthen, deceased, his son. Margaret, daughter and heir of Richard Hendor, was seised in fee of the under-mentioned manor of Branell &c. and messuages &c. in Branell and Talcarn, and, being so seised, married the said Thomas Tregarthen. They had issue John. Margaret died 14 April, 15 Henry VII, and after her death the said Thomas was seised of the premises as tenant by the courtesy, the reversion after his death belonging to the said John, son and heir of Margaret, and his heirs. John had issue Joan Tregarthen and Margaret, and died 5 January, 18 Henry VII, whereupon the reversion after Thomas’s death belonged to the said Joan and Margaret. The said Thomas died 6 March, 24 Henry VII. The said Joan and Margaret, aged respectively 10 years and more and 6 years and more, are kinswomen and next heirs both of him and of Margaret his wife.
CORNWALL. 858.	JOHN BARTON, esquire.
	Inquisition, virtute officii, …… . . 23 Henry VII.
	He was seised in fee of the under-mentioned manors of Qwhenby, Hundburton and Grymston, and lands and rents in Skewsby, Carlton, Northcoulton, Thryske, Biland and Skakelden, and by his charter dated 13 April, 21 Henry VII, enfeoffed thereof (by the name of all his manors, lands, rents &c. in the said towns) John Gower, knight, Christopher Danby, esquire, Richard Danby, Thomas Aslaykby, George Danby and Nicholas Pekkes, chaplain, to hold to them and their heirs for the performance of his last will; and they were seised thereof accordingly in fee to that intent. Christopher Barton, father of the said John Barton, was seised in fee of the under-mentioned lands &c. in Brompton in Pykerynglythe and Kyrkby Fletham, and by his deed dated in 18 Edward IV, gave them to the said John and Margaret, his wife, and the heirs of the same John. The same John Barton by his last will directed that immediately after his decease his feoffees aforesaid should make a legal estate to Margaret his wife, for life, of all the said lands &c. in Skakelden except a bovate of land lately in the tenure of Nicholas Potter, and should also make another legal estate to the said Margaret of a messuage and 4 bovates of land in Qwhenby in the tenure of Robert Fox, another messuage and 4 bovates there in the tenure of Thomas Mawnsell, and a yearly rent of 13s. 4d. from a messuage in the same town in the tenure of John Grensid, for the support of his younger children, and should also make a legal estate to John Barton, his son, and Joan, his said son’s wife, daughter of John Clerke of Pykall, of the said manor of Grymston and all the lands &c. in Skewsby now in the tenure of William Hilton, to hold to them and the heirs of the body of the said John [the younger] in accordance with certain indentures between him (John Barton, the elder) and the said John Clerke, and should also make a legal estate to Robert Barton, his brother, for life, of all the said lands &c. in Skewsby (except those in the tenure of William Hilton), the said rents in Thryske and Biland, and a bovate and 1a. land in Whenby lately in the tenure of the said Robert, and should also make a legal estate to each of his younger sons, to wit, Edward, Thomas, Leonard and Robert, of lands &c. in Hundburton to the yearly value of 40s. for life, provided that, if any of them be promoted to an ecclesiastical benefice worth 10l. yearly, his estate shall cease. He also directed that each of his daughters, to wit, Marjory, Margaret, Isabel and Joan, should have 40 marks for their marriage out of the issues of all his lands &c. not assigned above, and that his feoffees should pay to Margaret his wife 26s. 8d. yearly for the support of each of his said daughters. He granted by charter to Christopher Barton, his brother, a life annuity of 26s. 8d. out of the manor of Whenby. He died 20 June, 21 Henry VII. John Barton, aged 18 years and more, is his son and heir.

861.	HENRY BODRUGAN, knight, attainted.
	Inquisition, virtute officii, ……… ., 3 Henry VII.
	On 25 November, 2 Henry VII, the said Henry was seised in fee of the under-mentioned manor of Bodrugan and the other manors mentioned therewith, and of the under-mentioned messuages &c. in Trevargh &c. and advowson of St. Mary’s, Truruburgh. Long before the said 25 November he was seised in fee of the under-mentioned messuage &c. in Trethulba, and gave them by charter to William Harres for life. On the said 25 November the reversion thereof after William’s death belonged to the said Henry and his heirs. William is still seised thereof in his demesne as of free tenement. Long before the said 25 November he was seised in fee of the under-mentioned messuages &c. in Donstall &c., and gave them by charter to Richard Boneython for life. On the said 25 November the reversion &c., as above, mutatis mutandis. Long before the said 25 November he and Thomas Calwodley and Walter Enderby were seised in fee to the use of him and his heirs of the under-mentioned manor of Tretherem; and on 20 January, 2 Richard III, at the request of the said Henry, they demised it, inter alia, to Master Hugh Oldon, clerk, and Walter Smert, citizen and skinner of London, to hold to them, their heirs and assigns, on the condition that, if the said Henry should pay them the 186l. 15s. 4 1/2d. which he owed them in instalments of 49l. 12s. 10 1/2d. on 8 May, 2 Richard III, 56l. on 8 August following, 50l. on 30 November following, and 31l. 2s. 6d. on 8 March following, then they should stand seised of the manor to the use of the said Henry and his heirs, but otherwise to the use of themselves, their heirs and assigns. No part of the said debt has been repaid. Long before the said 25 November Walter Enderby and Thomas Calwodelegh were seised in fee of the under-mentioned manor of Pendryn and the other manors &c. mentioned therewith to the use of the said Henry; and at his request they granted them by charter to John Arundell, Edward Willughby, Hugh Oldon, clerk, and William Harries, to hold to them, their heirs and assigns, for the performance of the covenants contained in certain indentures dated 10 March, 1 Henry VII, between Robert Willughby, knight, and the said Henry, namely, that the said John and his co-feoffees should permit Henry to have the proceeds of the said manors &c. during his natural life, and that after his death they should grant the manor of Trethew to the said Robert Willughby, his heirs and assigns, for 10 years, with successive remainders to Margaret, viscountess Lisle, then his (Henry’s) wife, for life, and after her death to the right heirs of the said Henry, and should make a legal estate of the other manors &c. to the said Robert, his heirs and assigns. The said Margaret is dead. Henry survived her and is still living; so the said feoffees are seised of all the said manors &c. to his use during his life. On the said 25 November the said Henry was seised in fee of the under-mentioned messuage &c. in Trelast. Long before the said 25 November he was seised in fee of the under-mentioned closes called ‘Park Aumstyng’ and ‘Park Fentencaransak,’ and gave them by charter to William Veysy for life. On the said 25 November the reversion after William’s death belonged to him (the said Henry) and his heirs. William is still seised thereof in his demesne as of free tenement. On the said 25 November he was seised in fee of the under-mentioned messuages &c. in Trebeleck and Penrynburgh, and messuages &c. in Huntyngdon, Hyll and Castell. Long before the said 25 November he was seised in fee of the under-mentioned lordship or manor of Neweham, and by his indented charter gave it to Thomas Kyllygrewe of Penrynlaugh, esquire, his heirs and assigns, under the condition specified in the said indenture. The said Thomas was seised thereof accordingly on the said 25 November, and is still so seised. Long before the said 25 November he was seised in fee of the under-mentioned messuage &c. in Roswolstes, and gave them by charter to William Froste for life. On the said 25 November the reversion after William’s death belonged to him (the said Henry) and his heirs. William is still seised thereof in his demesne as of free tenement. On the said 25 November he was seised in fee of the under-mentioned messuages &c. in Trelowthas, Uxham and Lamelynwalas. Long before the said 25 November he was seised in fee of the under-mentioned manor of Tregreham, and on 6 March, 1 Henry VII, granted and confirmed to Reynold Bray, knight of the king’s body, a yearly rent of 6 marks for life from all the messuages of the manor, with power to distrain for arrears. In the Parliament held on 8 November last the said Henry was attainted of high treason, and all the manors &c. whereof he was seised on the aforesaid 25 November, 2 Henry VII, as well as the reversions which then belonged to him, pertain to the king, who has ever since taken the issues and profits thereof.
CORNWALL. 	The said James, who was attainted of high treason by authority of Parliament, was seised in fee on 22 August, 1 Henry VII, of the under-mentioned manors and moieties of manors and messuages &c. in Southyndeley, Calthorn, Penyston, Alkeley, Greystongill, Benteham, Grendilton and Kirkeby by Brierley. On the same 22 August he was seised in fee of the under-mentioned messuages &c. in Holbek, Ledys, Grymston and Kirkeby upon Wharff, and rent of pepper in Armeley, to the use and for the maintenance of a chaplain to celebrate in the chapel of Farneley. He was also seised in fee of the under-mentioned advowsons. He held no other manors or lands &c. in the county on the said 22 August, or ever afterwards.

	John Fyssher, Edward Willoughby and Robert Logge were seised in fee of the under-mentioned manors of Alkyngton, Camme and Hynton, and during their seisin, by a fine levied in the king’s court on the morrow of the Purification, 3 Henry VII, between the said marquess, then earl marshal and of Nottingham, Anne, his wife, Thomas, archbishop of York, George Fitz Hugh, dean of Lincoln, and Thomas Fynes, esquire, querents, and the said John, Edward and Robert, deforciants, the said manors were settled on the querents, to hold to them and the heirs of the body of the marquess, with remainder in default of such issue, after the death of the said querents, to the king and the heirs male of his body, and with remainder over to the right heirs of the marquess. The marquess died without heir of his body, and the rest of the querents are also dead, so that the manors remained and ought to remain to the king by virtue of the said fine. Edward Willoughby and Robert Logge were seised in fee, inter alia, of the under-mentioned manors of Wotton under Egge, Symondeshale and Erlyngham, advowsons of the chantries of St. John, Worteley, and St. Giles, Hildesley, and messuages &c. in Slymbrigg &c. and Erlyngham. During their seisin, by a fine levied in the king’s court in the octave of St. John the Baptist, 3 Henry VII, the manors of Wotton under Egge and Symondeshale, the messuages &c. in Slymbrigge &c., and the said advowsons, were granted to the marquess for life, with successive remainders to Anne, his wife, for life, to the heirs of his body, to the king and the heirs male of his body, and to the right heirs of the marquess, and the marquess was seised thereof accordingly in his demesne as of free tenement; (fn. 1) [and the manor of Erlyngham and messuages &c. in Erlyngham were granted to the marquess for a month, with successive remainders to John Beauchamp, knight, and Anne, his wife, sister of the said Edward Willoughby, for the term of their lives, to the heirs of the body of the said marquess, to the king and the heirs male of his body, and to the right heirs of the marquess], and John Beauchamp and Anne, his wife, were seised thereof accordingly in their demesne as of free tenement. John Beauchamp and Anne died in the lifetime of the marquess, who thereupon entered into the manor of Erlyngham and messuages there and was seised thereof in fee tail. He died without heir of his body, and Anne, his wife, is also dead, so that all the said manors and other the premises remained and ought to remain to the king by the form of the said fine. John Fissher, serjeant-at-law, and Robert Logge, clerk, were seised in fee of the under-mentioned manors of Slymbrigge and Hurst, and during their seisin, by a fine levied in the king’s court on the said morrow of the Purification, 3 Henry VII, the manors were granted to the said marquess, James, bishop of Norwich, Christopher Willoughby, knight, Robert Willoughby, knight, Edward Willoughby, esquire, and Richard Willoughby, esquire, to hold to them and the heirs of the body of the marquess, with successive remainders to the king and the heirs male of his body and to the right heirs of the marquess. Humphrey was seised thereof in fee by pretext of the said disseisin until he and Walter were attainted and convicted of high treason by an Act of the Parliament held at Westminster on 7 November last. Humphrey had the issues and profits thereof from the time of the said disseisin until Easter last.

	Robert Tanfeld, late of Gayton, esquire, and Thomas Tanfeld were seised in fee of the under-mentioned manor, and gave it by charter to William Tanfeld, Robert, bishop of Bath and Wells, and Brian Roclyff, to hold to them, their heirs and assigns, for the performance of the last will of the said Robert Tanfeld. The bishop and Brian survived the said William, and still hold themselves in the manor by survivorship. William died 26 November last. Robert Tanfeld of Everton, of full age, is his kinsman and next heir, to wit, son of Robert Tanfeld, late of Everton, esquire, his brother. Cf. Vol. I, No. 429.
