Writ wanting; inq. Monday after the Sunday ‘in Albis,’ 1 Hen. VII.
She died 28 Sept., 1 Hen. VII, jointly seised with her said husband, who survives, to them and the heirs of their bodies, of the under-mentioned manor, by feoffment from Master John Selot, William Jenney, late serjeant-at-law, John Heydon, William Essex, Richard Southwell, esq., Edmund Clere, esq., Robert Hareward, John Fyncham, Henry Spylman, Roger Philpot, Robert Clere, of Stokesby, Henry Heydon, Thomas Boleyn, Edmund Jenney, Thomas Fenne, Edmund Widewell, and John Pagrave, the younger; and similarly seised of the under-mentioned lands, by release from John Fyncham, Henry Spylman, and John Coo.
George Nevill, knt., aged 16 and more, is their son and heir.
NORF. Manor called ‘Burdeles’ in Skulton, held of the King, by service of being Larderer at the coronations of King or Queen. It is worth 8l. clear, over and above 40s. a year with which it is charged in favour of Agnes Bulwik, widow.

Henry Gratton, clk., rector of the church of Barton, and Henry Tykhill, gent., gave the under-mentioned manors and lands to him and Lora his wife, who survives, with remainder to the heirs male of his body.
He died 12 Oct., 1 Hen. VII. William Blount, aged 7 and more, is his son and heir.
WORC. Manors of Hampton Lovet, and Thyknappeltre, worth 20 marks, with the advowsons of the church of Hampton Lovet, and of the chantries therein, held of Edward, Earl of Warwick, a minor, as of Elmeley Castle, by service of 1/2 of a knight’s fee.

3 THOMAS, son of JOHN CHAWORTH.
Com. wanting; inq. 20 Oct., 2 Hen. VII.
By fine levied in the court of King Edward., progenitor of the King that now is, one John de Medburne gave the under-mentioned manor of Alferton to Thomas, son of Thomas Chaworth, and the heirs whom the said Thomas the son should beget on the body of his wife Joan. It descended to one Thomas Chaworth, as son and heir of William, son and heir of Thomas, son and heir of William, son and heir of Thomas, son and heir of the said Thomas and Joan. He died without issue, and it descended to Joan, his sister and heir, wife of John Ormond; but Thomas, son of John, Chaworth, the person named in the writ, intruded himself and was seised of the said manor in fee, till his death without issue, which happened 25 Dec. last. The said Joan Ormond, aged 22 and more, is his cousin and heir, viz. daughter of William, elder brother of John, father of the said Thomas.
Robert Markham, knt., Gervase Clyfton, John Stanhop, Thomas Molyneux, Thomas Grene, clk., John Parker, and Richard Page, by deed of feoffment demised the other under-mentioned manors, the manor of Norton excepted, to Thomas Chaworth, esq., son and heir of William Chaworth, knt. in tail male, with remainder to the right heirs of the said William his father, with remainder to the right heirs of Thomas his grandfather. He died without issue, and the said manors descended to his sister Joan, who was expelled by the said Thomas, her cousin, as above.
The said Thomas, son of William Chaworth, knt., died seised in fee of the manor Norton, from which Joan, his sister and heir, was expelled, as above.

By deed indented dated 20 Jan., 35 Hen. VI, Henry Quarell and Hugh Shelwik demised the under-mentioned manors, together with 12 messuages, 30 tofts, 500a. land, 300a. meadow, 60a. wood, 100a. pasture, and 60s. rent in Clehungre, Merecourt, Tadyngton, Lower Bolyngehope, Burcote in Hereford, Wilnehale, Trokerston, Alensmore, Kyngeston, Arkeston, Webton, Maynston, Stockbrugge, Sholl, Lertport, Mordyford, Chekeley, Leomynstre, Blakemeston, Hynton, Hereford, Kentishburcote, Over Sheldewik, and Nether Sheldewyke, to John Barre, knt., and the said Joan, then his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the said John Barre in tail, with remainder to Isabel, daughter of the said John Barre, late the wife of Humphrey Stafford, Earl of Devon, son and heir of William Stafford, esq., and now the wife of Thomas Bourghchier, the elder, knt., son of Henry, late Earl of Essex, in tail, with remainder to the right heirs of the said John Barre, knt.; and the said John and Joan received the King’s pardon for the said acquisition, by letters pat., 27 Jan., 11 Edw. IV.
The said John died without issue by the said Joan, who survived him, and died seised of the premises in fee tail after possibility of issue extinct.
She died 10 Aug., 2 Ric. III. Robert Basset, esq., aged 50 and more, Lucy, the wife of Thomas Chokke the younger, esq., aged 16 and more on the 20th of May last, Joan, the wife of Thomas Chokke the elder, esq., aged 15 and more on the 2nd of June last, Elizabeth, the wife of John Chokke the younger, esq., aged 18 and more, and William Strode, esq., aged 40 and more, are her next-of-kin.
The said John Barre, knt., before his marriage with the said Joan, had issue the said Isabel, Countess of Devon, by Idonia, his first wife; she is his daughter and heir, and is aged 30 and more. The said Countess and her husband, in her right, entered on the said manors and lands 20 Sept., 1 Hen. VII, and are now seised thereof in fee tail. By letters patent dated 12 Dec. last they received the King’s pardon for their entry, she being therein described as daughter and heir of the said John Barre, and Idonia, and cousin and heir of Thomas Barre, knt., viz. daughter of John, son of the said Thomas.

VII, enfeoffed Thomas Agard and Margaret his wife, daughter and heir of the said Geoffrey, thereof, with remainder to the heirs of the body of the said Margaret.
He died 23 Aug. last, seised of the under-mentioned messuages and land in Broughton in fee. The said Margaret, wife of Thomas Agard, is his daughter and heir, and is aged 18 and more.

By fine in the quinzaine of Easter, 39 Edw. III, between John Tybetot, knt., and Elizabeth his wife, querents, and Clement de Brethenham, Andrew de Wauton and Philip Chaumberleyn, deforciants, the said Clement gave the under-mentioned manor of Braunford, which Ralph Spigurnell then held for life, of the inheritance of the said Clement, to the said John and Elizabeth, and the heirs male of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of the said John. It descended accordingly to the said Edward, as son of John, son of Pain, son of the said John Tybetot, knt., and Elizabeth his wife. John Arundell, knt., and Katharine, his wife, suffered a recovery of the under-mentioned manors, whereof they were then tenants, to John Fogge, Ralph Verney, and William Hampton, knts., Richard Fowler, and Alfred Cornborough, nominees of King Edward IV, for the contentment of a fine of 6,000 marks assessed on the said Sir John Arundell for being at the battle of Tewkesbury with Edward, son of King Henry VI, against the said King Edward. And afterwards, at the instance of the said Sir John Arundell, Sir John Fogge, and the others, enfeoffed Thomas Tregarthen the elder, with William Menwynnek and Richard Raynold, now deceased, thereof, to the use of Sir John’s will, and for the payment of the fine. By his will Sir John directed that the said feoffees should pay divers other debts of his with the issues and profits of the premises, and should raise marriage portions for his three daughters. And afterwards he died, and the said Sir Thomas Arundell, his son and heir, inasmuch as he had incurred great debts, on behalf of the King that now is, and otherwise, by his will directed that his debts should be paid, and his children maintained and married out of the said issues and profits. Part of the 6,000 marks remains unpaid, as also divers debts of the said Sir John and Sir Thomas, and charges made by the latter’s will, amounting to 4,000l. in all.
He died 11 Oct., 1 Hen. VII. John Arundell, aged 11 and more, is his son and heir.

Thomas, late Lord Scales, died on the eve of St. James the Apostle, 38 Hen. VI, seised in fee of the under-mentioned manor, which descended at his death to Elizabeth, his daughter and heir, then aged 24 and more. She took to husband the said Anthony Wydevyle, knt., Earl Ryvers, whereby the said Anthony and Elizabeth, in her right, were seised of the said manor in fee. By fine levied in the octave of the Holy Trinity, 6 Edw. IV, between Simon Baxster, and Gilbert Hogh, querents, and the said Anthony and Elizabeth, by the names of Anthony Wydevyle, Lord de Scales, and Elizabeth his wife, deforciants, the said manor was inter alia given to the said Anthony and Elizabeth and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder in default to Thomas Bourghchier, knt., John Fyncham, Richard Aufyn, clk., and John Pelley, esq., and the heirs of Richard, to the use of the said Elizabeth and her heirs. She died so seised 2 Sept., 13 Edw. IV, without issue by the said Anthony, who survived her, and was seised of the said manor in fee tail after possibility of issue by the said Elizabeth extinct.
He died 20 June, 1 Ric. III. Richard Wydevyle, now Earl Ryvers, aged 35 and more, is his brother and heir.
John de Veer, Earl of Oxford, aged 40 and more, and William Tyndale, esq., aged 33 and more, are the next heirs of the said Thomas, Lord Scales, and Elizabeth his daughter; the said Earl as son of Elizabeth, daughter of John, son of John, son of Margaret, one of the daughters and heirs of Robert, Lord Scales, the father of Roger, father of Robert, father of Thomas, father of the said Elizabeth; and the said William Tyndale, as son of Thomas, son of Alana, daughter of Simon, son of Elizabeth, the other of the daughters and heirs of the said Robert.
From the death of Anthony, Lord Ryvers, to 6 Feb., 2 Ric. III the issues and profits of the said manor were taken by John Howard, Duke of Norfolk, and from that date to 22 Aug. following, by the said Duke and the said William Tyndale, though by what right the Duke received them the jury is not aware. From the last-mentioned date to the present time, they have been taken by the said Earl of Oxford, and the said William Tyndale.

By fine levied in the quinzaine of St. Martin, 48 Hen. III, between Roger Descales, querent, and Alice Descales, impedient, the said Alice gave the under-mentioned manor of Neweseles to the said Roger, and the heirs of his body. The said Roger was accordingly seised thereof in fee tail, and had issue Robert, and died; and after his death it descended to Thomas, late Lord de Scales and Neweseles, as his cousin and heir, viz. son of Robert, son of Roger, son of Robert, son of Robert, son of Robert, son of the said Roger Descales.
The said Thomas, Lord Scales, died seised in fee of the other under-mentioned manors of Berkwey and Rokey, which descended to Elizabeth, his daughter and heir, who took to husband the said Anthony, Earl Ryvers. And the said Anthony and Elizabeth being accordingly seised in her right of the said manor of Neweseles in fee tail, and of the manors of Berkwey and Rokey in fee, a fine was levied, 6 Edw. IV, of the said manors of Neweseles and Berkwey, to uses (as in No. 33).

Thomas, Lord Scales, died on the feast of St. James the Apostle, 38 Hen. VI, seised of the under-mentioned manors and advowsons in fee. They descended to his daughter Elizabeth, who married the said Anthony, Lord Ryvers, whereby the said Anthony and Elizabeth were seised of the premises in fee in her right. She died so seised of the manors of Teryngton, Wygenhale, Babyngley, and Wolverton, the manor and advowson of Clenchwarton, ‘Belyeters tenement,’ the patronage of the under-mentioned priories, and the advowsons of West Wynche and Hokewold, without ever having had any issue by the said Anthony.

VI, Thomas Courtenay, Earl of Devon, Philip Courtenay, knt., John Colshyll, esq., John Javyen, Roger Treouron, John Patry, clk., and William Hoigge, clk., gave the under-mentioned manor and rent to one John Bassett for life, with remainder to Joan his wife and the heirs of her body begotten by the said John, with remainder in default to the right heirs of John. Thomas, Earl of Devon, and others, gave the under-mentioned manors by deed to John and Joan Bassett, with remainders over (as in No. 47). On the death of his mother the said Joan Bassett, who had survived her husband John, the said John Bassett, knt., entered on the premises, and by deed dated 26 June, 15 Edw. IV, gave the manor of Trevalga, part thereof, to one John Denys of Orlegh for the term of 12 years then next to come, with remainder after that term to John Bassett, his elder son of that name, and Elizabeth his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder in default to Thomas Bassett the elder, Thomas the younger, Martin, and John Bassett the younger, his other sons, successively in tail. Further, by deed dated 30 June, 15 Edw. IV, he gave the manors of Femarschall and Tehyde to the said John Denys, John Pascowe, clk., William Goghert, and Ralph Bevyll, to hold for the term of his life, with remainder to John Bassett the elder, his son, in tail, with remainder to his brothers, as above.

Humphrey Sterky, knt., chief baron of the Exchequer, sometime recorder of the city of London, Robert Plomer, John Kyng of Dunmowe, and John Wode of Hatfelde, were seised of the under-mentioned messuage and gardens in fee, to the use of the said John Writell and his last will: and it was agreed between the said John Writell, Humphrey Sterky, Robert Plomer, and John Wode, of the one part, and the said John Kyng of the other, that they the said Humphrey, Robert, John, and John should not alienate the whole or any part of the premises unless on trust that the said John Kyng should be discharged of certain sums in which he stood bound at the said John Writell’s request, viz. 240l. to John Grene and Katharine his wife, 30l. 6s. 8d. to William Pykenham, clk., and 26l. 13s. 4d. to Andrew Priour; and at the same time power was reserved to the said John Kyng, his heirs and assigns, to take the issues and profits, or to sell part or the whole thereof, in case he should be sued, vexed, or troubled in respect of the said sums of money. By his will the said John Kyng appointed Anne his wife his executrix, and died; and the said Anne remarried with one John Ramston; and the said Katharine Grene is now sueing them for the debt due to her said late husband John Grene, so that the said John Ramston, and Anne his wife, being executrix as aforesaid, are sued, vexed, and troubled.
The said John Writell died 13 Oct. last. John Writell, aged 8 weeks and more, is his son and heir.
